Our pre-Gameweek members article, which focuses on the main captaincy contenders, arrives a little later than usual this Friday afternoon. As always, we take a three-part approach which includes the weekly poll standings, the Opta statistics and our Rate My Team projections to help steer your thoughts on the armband conundrum.

The Captain Poll

With 44% of the votes cast, Harry Kane is the runaway leader this week as Spurs prepare to entertain Villa at the Lane. The youngster has produced eight goals and two assists in his six home appearances in 2015, with three sets of double-figures (18, 12, 17) included over that run. Bearing in mind that Villa have a single clean sheet in 12 league outings, Kane owners will be expecting a return to form after he blanked in two of the last three Gameweeks.

Eden Hazard is next in line as Chelsea make their way to London neighbours QPR. The Belgian has scored in five of his last six away appearances and squares up to a defence that’s conceded at least twice in all but one of the last seven matches. With that in mind, it’s perhaps surprising that Hazard is currently backed by just 17% of the voters.

Arsenal pair Olivier Giroud and Alexis Sanchez have been selected by 8% and 5% respectively for the trip to Burnley. The Clarets defence have kept out City and Spurs in their last two home matches and have certainly tightened up, though face a tough task to keep Giroud at bay – the Frenchman has scored in eight of his last nine league starts. Sanchez, meanwhile, has already served up a 16-point haul against the Clarets this season and rolls up to Turf Moor on the back of a 13-point return against Liverpool last weekend as the Gunners strengthen their claim for a top two finish.

Four goals in his last six outings earns Bafetimbi Gomis 4% backing in this week’s Poll. The Swansea forward has belatedly found his form but faces a resurgent Everton side at the Liberty, with the Toffees conceding just once in their previous three fixtures.

Sergio Aguero and Loic Remy have been selected by just 3% ahead of trips to United and QPR respectively. Given that United have only conceded more than one goal on just two occasions from Gameweek 6 onwards, Aguero faces a tough task to arrest a run of form which has seen him return a single assist in the last five Gameweeks. Remy’s back-to-back winners for Chelsea should earn him a start in Diego Costa’s absence as the league leaders travel to a QPR side that has lost each of their last five at Loftus Road and boasts the worst defensive record in the top-flight.

Further down, the likes of Daniel Sturridge and Glenn Murray could well emerge as real differentials for those willing to gamble. Sturridge has collected just 2% of votes ahead of Monday’s home encounter with a Newcastle side that has managed two clean sheets in their last 19 league encounters. Murray’s five goals and two assists in the last five suggests he’s one to watch as Palace seek a fifth win in six away to struggling Sunderland.

WC before 34 or after to put the team back in order for last few weeks?

after would be nice if you can get enough DGW players beforehand, but for most I think the sensible option is to WC before.

    Many going with Hazard (c)?

    I'm sticking with Kane myself.

With Costa out, surely Haz will be the man to mark, maybe even double mark?

Home game though and Kane is the target man for 4-5 players to supply it to him in the box.

Not saying he won't score I just think Kane is the better pick

Can't believe people are doing Giroud -> Remy this week.. Horrible transfer imo..

I'm even struggling to press the button on losing Austin for Remy.. A 90 minute Austin at home when he's scored everywhere or unknown quantity Remy who may only get 60 minutes.

I was getting so close to locking down Austin to Remy.. and then you had to go write your second paragraph >:(

        Still though:

        a) Remy is against former club
        b) Remy has something to prove
        c) Remy has shown that he can deliver, even on less time.

I think Austin or Benteke to Remy with a FT is the easiest transfer of the week (if you don't have 3 Chelsea already).

Giroud or Aguero to Remy is a much harder call to make. I'm not sure I'd do either.

Austin who has just had a 21 point DGW? Austin who scored vs Arsenal home and away, Chelsea away, Southampton away?

Doesn't seem an easy transfer to me..

Austin who has to play against the best defence in the PL followed by a blank GW. That's the one I'm talking about.

Remy who is playing against one of the worst defences in the PL, has no blank and has a DGW upcoming. Seems pretty straightforward to me.

With Naughton out for the season, who should I replace with, keeping DGWs in mind? Should I wait a week or two to see, considering I can field 3 D next week without him?

(This is in a different game than FPL, Schlup would be my choice but he is marked as Mid)

    Current D:

    Ivanovic, Bertrand, Trippier, Wolschield, Naughton

As someone pointed out to me earlier - my whole FPL side this week is represented by the lowest amount of teams possible* (4).

Anyone else in the same boat?

    - Chelsea
    - City
    - Southampton
    - Spurs

    Gomis vs Remy next round-

Chelsea last six games: 9 goals

Swansea last six games: 9 goals

Chelsea last six games: 7goals in the box

Swanseas last six games: 8 goals in the box

Tho Big chances is clearly in favor of Chelsea. Smth like 14 to 9 but then again Gomis had 4or5 of then Swansea ones

I am thinking the same. Alternative is Moses > Sterling (c)

Cool squad.. but would take a gamble on either Giroud, Remy or Gomis for Aguero. and Kane for captain

Makes sense to play Vertonghen over Craig Dawson?

If Vert is fit he'll surely start, if not he won't be in the squad?

I'd say Dawson has bigger shot at CS.

Even though I have money on Jason Day, currently 2nd on -6, I would bloody love it if Ernie Els could somehow win The Masters.

Are we any the wiser what Southamptons attacking 4 will be this week?
Pelle, Tadic, Mane, Long any of them a shoe in.

Mané will start surely. Only rested last week because of his 2 games for Senegal and the long journey back from Africa afterwards.

Long term plan to make sure I don't waste a transfer, have 12 players for GW 33 and 6 x DGWers for a hit.

            Only option I have.....

Sturridge complained of "muscle tightness" at BRFC but should be fine & BR will check on Balotelli [illness]. Gerrard & Skrtel [susp] #LFC

    1FT all advice is appreciated

    Myhill
    Terry Clyne PVA
    Phillips Haz Silva Sanchez
    Giroud Aguero Kane(C)

    Subs: Foster Boyd McShane Naughton*

If you've got nothing to do then fix Naughton, depending on who you bring in and what cash you have then you could even play them over Phillips, fixture pending
