We take our usual Sunday evening look at the weekend’s new injuries now, with Chelsea’s concerns up front increasing after Loic Remy picked up a muscle problem in training yesterday.

Aston Villa
The injury worries continued in defence for Tim Sherwood after Ciaran Clark was forced off early on in the 1-0 win over Spurs. Sherwood is also sweating over the fitness of Gabby Agbonlahor up front, after the forward was also replaced at White Hart Lane. After the match, the Villa manager admitted the pair are likely to miss next weekend’s semi-final with Liverpool:

“Ciaran has come off with a knee ligament injury. He’s not had it before. It’s the first time this season we’ve had to name an unchanged team so it’s something we’re getting used to. Gabby’s tweaked his hamstring. It looks like (they will miss Sunday). It’s a real shame as it’s a massive day out.”

Chelsea
Loic Remy missed today’s trip to QPR after sustaining a muscle injury in training yesterday, Jose Mourinho has confirmed:

“Remy got a kick in training and the muscle is sore. We never cry or complain, we just trust the people on the pitch”

After the 1-0 win, the Blues boss was optimistic that the Frenchman will be back in time for next week’s home clash with United:

“Remy has a small injury. I think he should be available for the next game.”

Crystal Palace
Left-back Pape Souare was forced off early in the 4-1 win over Sunderland due to injury.

Everton
Leon Osman is set to be assessed after sustaining a groin injury during the Toffees’ 1-1 draw at Swansea yesterday lunchtime.

Manchester City
Reports suggest Vincent Kompany was withdrawn at half-time due to a thigh complaint in City’s loss at Old Trafford.

Manchester United
Michael Carrick was forced off towards the end of this afternoon’s derby win over City, with his withdrawal leaving the hosts with just ten men. Post-match, Louis van Gaal revealed:

“At the end, Michael Carrick needed to be changed but I could not substitute him. He was very wise to step out of the game with my permission. I hope he is not injured.”

QPR
Armand Traore was initially named amongst the subs today but withdrew from the squad after sustaining a knock during the pre-match warm-up.

Stoke
Victor Moses and Marc Wilson were both replaced during the Potters’ weekend draw at West Ham, with Mark Hughes confirming post-match:

“It looks like Victor has pulled his hamstring. It looks like it is in a strange position as it seems to be right behind his knee, which isn’t the normal position you usually get hamstring injuries. We will get it checked, it may be something that isn’t to do with the hamstring so it could be that we get good news. If it is a hamstring, then it could be that we lose him for a few weeks…Marc got a bang right on his hip, fair play to him he tried to go out for the second half and see if he could make it work. Sadly he couldn’t loosen it off and had to be forced off unfortunately.”

Swansea
Bafetimbi Gomis lasted just 17 minutes of Saturday’s early kick-off against Everton before limping off with a hamstring problem, Garry Monk has confirmed:

“Bafe felt a tightening of his hamstring. He will have a scan. Hopefully it’s not too serious because we don’t want to lose his quality, and we’re already quite thin on the ground.”

Fellow forward Nelson Oliveira missed out with a twisted ankle sustained in training.

West Ham
Sam Allardyce’s options up front could be somewhat limited heading into the weekend trip to City after both Diafra Sakho and Enner Valencia picked up injuries in the weekend draw with Stoke. Post-match, the Hammers boss confirmed:

“Enner was never going to be able to play the full 90 minutes, but he got a kick as well and we’re hoping it won’t be enough to keep him out for next week, because Diafra will definitely be missing. If it’s a thigh strain, depending on what grade it is, it could two weeks or it could be him missing the rest of this season, but we will wait and see. That leaves us very short on the front line with Andy being out, and means goals will be fewer and farther between than they used to be, so if we don’t get that defensive side right then the last six games are going to be tough for us.”

2nd highest scorers in the PL, 1 goal less than City having played a game less.

4th highest scorers in the CL, 3 goals less than Bayern and 1 less than Porto and RM.

Comments like this are only made because Chelsea know how to defend and fans of other clubs don't like it.

Who do you pay to see and how many games have you been to this season? Or is this an armchair pundit talking?

Hazard - Silva - Eriksen - Siggy - Hendo (blank)
Rooney - Kane - Giroud (blank)

    I still have WildCard

    A) Siggy and Giroud >>> Bolasie and Murray (-4)
    B) Eriksen and Giroud >>> Bolasie and Murray (-4)
    C) Rooney and Giroud >>> Aguero and Murray (-4)
    D) Eriksen, Rooney and Giroud >>> Bolasie, Aguero and Murray (-8)

    A, B, C or D?

Just sell giroud for Murray. 4 point hits for one week only seem a big risk.

But keep Eriksen and Siggy (poor fpl form lately) and Rooney (trip to Stamford Bridge) and let Bolasie and Aguero (seem excellent this week and have good fixtures) out?

See why it's a shame not to get Aguero in, good captain material this week. But you'd need Bolasie to score to make the hit worth it, which I'd say is less than 50/50.

I watch the game live and I'm quite ashamed to say they were v poor. Downing was frozen out of the game and noble was hopeless. No way they are going to go free scoring or keep a cs soon.

Always a reasonable chance for the decent home games when Clichy has played the last couple of games that both have been fit for. Clichy's mistakes today make it likely imo.

Assuming you need a guaranteed starter with the blanks I'd reluctantly say Baines.

Kolarov is the super differential though and West Ham have a striker shortage. Could go all out and captain him for an attack on top spot 😉

Ha that would be a very bold attack on top spot. Think it will be Aguero for me this week and try to capitalise on having 11 players, no hits over the next two weeks and a WC.

He is someone to consider though as got 2 FT's to use. Thanks!

is it just me or do the GW34 DGW keepers just not appeal

Migs - nice fixtures but Skrtel dominates the BAPs so much that he may be worth the extra (plus Migs and Ospina possibly overkill)
Schmeichel - Nice 1st game and Leicester look better but Morgan, Huth and Schlupp all look really attacking atm for not much more
    McGregor/Harper - Hull are pish
Courtois - absolutely no value in him

Might just get Davis for 1 GW

Able to field a full 11 with 1 ft left and a WC. Should I be afraid of the mane incident and use the last ft on him or get a defender to replace Naughton? (4m itb)

Wait till Friday maybe. If you still have 11 without needing Naughton you can take your pick - Toure, Silva, Lennon, Barkley, Puncheon all have better looking fixtures than Mane and could replace him.

      Did everything work out yesterday?

I'm not too sure about Mane. That's my only doubt out of my 11. And with Dawson on my bench so I rather have players that play the full 90. Kinda afraid to double up on WBa defenders atm.

Yeah everything did! Great game and atmosphere. Really a once in a lifetime experience. Before I fly off on Tuesday I'll write smth for those that has helped me the past few weeks! Thanks man!

"Parking the bus" is a phrase generally used for lesser teams playing better teams. Chelsea will not fear United any more than United will fear Chelsea.

The one occasion when Chelsea have really "parked the bus" was against Barcelona in the 2012 CL semi-final, especially after Terry was sent off. Barcelona were the better team and everyone at Chelsea knew that. We therefore had to find a way to beat them without being better than them. That's what parking the bus is about.

However it is quite possible that both teams will play with some caution next weekend - a 0-0 would not be a bad result for either team.

Sterling is the most highly owned player for Liverpool at 13.9% in the top 10k? Bit surprising there is no one higher.

From an FPL prospective they only have 3 players that would be of interest and one of them keeps getting injured.

    A. Sanchez & Austin -> Fabregas & Murray, no hit. Take a 4pt hit in gwk 34 & have Terry, Bruce, Skrtel, Schlupp, Henderson, Hazard, Fabregas

    B. Sanchez & Austin -> Sterling & Remy, no hit. Take no hit in 34 & have Terry, Bruce, Schlupp, Henderson, Sterling, Hazard, Remy

    I can field 11 with both A & B in gwk 33.

I was going to bench him for Naughton

Could easily be a tight game. Think about it - a 0-0 would not be a bad result for either team. And it's also the kind of game I wouldn't be surprised to see Terry score in.

As I posted last week, Chelsea will re-focus on defensive solidity with Costa out. Today's performance, Terry's recent comments on Chelsea TV and Mourinho's post-match comments about "controlling" QPR all point that way.

Chelsea-United is traditionally a high-scoring fixture but the stage of the season and the situation of both teams suggests a tight game to me.

I haven't owned a Chelsea defender all season, I don't think. I'll be having Hazard, Fabregas and maybe Remy.

you're not worried that Mourinho will just see out the season professionally and tidy since if they get the points they need they don't need to win anymore at a certain point?

A little. But Chelsea aren't the only ones who can get CSs. I've got players like Toby and Moreno, cheap in solid defences with good fixtures. And hopefully Bellerin keeps his place.

Need to take a hit just to field XI for 33 so double Liec seems logical, would help absorb the hits as of course they have a double and I have no WC, but Palace look so tempting as well....

take a break from the early double header planning and read the latest premier league blog.

or you know, just ignore it and move on. I don't mind. And neither does LVG...

Given I'm wildcarding next week I have room for one punt, I think I'll wait for thepuntmaster's weekly article given his current form. Not only did he have Craig Gardner(!) his week he also picked Alderweireld and had this to say:

"Although he is likely to start as a centre-back this weekend the Belgian is versatile enough to play as a full back or centre midfielder. That means that should anyone pick up an injury or Ronald Koeman want to change tactics then Alderweireld is the most likely to benefit from being moved further up-field or out wide."

    Vision.
