The results for third round of the Fantasy Football Scout Cup, sponsored by Paddy Power, are in and can be viewed right here. The competition has now reached the final 64, but our contenders are still only a third of the way to the title, for a brief round-up of who has reached the second third of the tournament, read on…

Getting there in style is this week’s top-scorer Ann_der_roo, who thrashed BirdyRob 76 – 52, and in doing so he earned a cool £25 bet courtesy of Paddy Power.

The highest-scoring tie of the round was the 74 – 56 win for hunting4beaver (who was Ann_der_roo’s closest challenger for the weekly prize) over jr.

Another high scorer this week was our very own Granville, who’s impressive run of form sees him storm into the fourth round with a thoroughly convincing 73 – 45 victory over dinglea.

On the flip side to all that bigs scoring was Landsman‘s 40 – 39 win against mogould, which was the lowest points total good enough to progress, the lowest scoring tie of the round and the joint-narrowest points victory.

Also scraping through to the fourth round by a single point was Chris81 (49 – 48 Discogod), mellicott_uk (51 – 50 JoseRealM) and andy85wsm (53 – 52 Milhouse).

Unable to determine a points victor were Jimmers and DaFoe22, who both scored 52. It was DaFoe22’s vastly superior overall ranking which saw him safely through.

The biggest beating of the round was Mighty‘s 73 – 44 annihilation of JohnSteed01. Karma perhaps for eliminating yours truly, and for denying me this weeks top score? Yes, yes it was.

Our last-remaining former champ donnellyc is still in the mix and looking to add to his silverware, after he saw off kings of kafiristan 52 – 34.

Congratulations to our winners, and commiserations to our losers this week. The fourth round fixtures will be made and published in the next couple of days.

Nani would have likely been benches this weekend anyway. I reckon this has saved a lot of people the pain of making him captain.

    LOL @ My team.

Foster (Jaask) Ok not a bad start.
Coleman Elmo A.Cole Jara Shawcross (Rotation risk, rotation risk, Ok he is good, Suspended, shite)
Nani, VDV, Malouda Fabregas N'Zogbia (Doubt, Doubt, Doubt, Doubt, Crappy fixtures)
Drogba, Heskey, Carroll (Ok he is good, Doesn't need to be said, Crappy fixtures)

Anyone else in a similar position? I think it will be alright if all four of the mids play, or even 3 of them...

So after weeks of carefully constructing my midfield to get VdV, Malouda, Nani, Fabs and Adam, they are all doubts (to differing extents) for the coming gameweek... great.

Not brilliant but one plus could be that it forces me to sort out my squad members as I have been relying far too heavily on my starting 11 being fit each week.

I was considering just the one change - Stearman to Dann - then playing 4-4-2 or 4-3-3 if needed. Anyone got any better ideas??

Tempted to transfer nani out for someone but I'm loathe to make too many changes as I'll probabkly want all of them back in a couple of gw's time.

This game is so depressing sometimes.

    Foster (Krul)
    Elmo, Salcido, Coleman, Faye (Jara)
Malouda, Fabs, Adam, (Nani, VDV if injured)
    Drogba, Bent, Elmander.

May struggle to put a XI together if Coleman, Fabs not playing – any suggested changes? Was hoping to do Bent,Faye -> Odemwingie & A Cole next wk.

I'd cool your jets on the transfer front just now.

If you dont fancy coleman maybe bring in Jones of Blackburn, he has a tasty fixture.

      Other than that, no panic.

Then next week if Nani/VDV out for a while you can transfer one of them and you're dont, no point hit.

Their only plus point is that Shaktar try to play like them, and Arsenal normally kill teams that are just mini versions of themselves (in the same way Barcelona killed them, as Arsenal are a mini-Barcelona).

But No Fabregas, and a few other doubts to add to the long injury list doesn't inspire considring the air miles they'll be clocking up.

I don't think they'll even miss Fabregas tonight tbh. Wilshere back in and Nasri given the form he is in should more than cover his absence.

Like you say, Shaktar like to keep possession and pass it around very much like Arsenal so hopefully Arsenals technical ability should come out superior. Of course, if they win tonight they qualify also.

3 players to keep an eye on for a cheap differential:
dorrans is now just 4.8mil. as soon as he gets his place back he definitely deserves attention. charlie adam has shown how far just penalties can get you.
if milijas nails down his starting place wolves have an extended run of nice fixtures on the horizon. again he could easily be their charlie adam.
tony pulis has today reported he expects gudjohnsen to be up and running by december, one to keep an eye on at 4.9mil and stoke's fixtures clearing up.

I'd love a bit of Dorrans at £4.8m or less, however I'd now need to sell Carson too and have 3 Bromley attackers... when Brunt gets injured, maybe. But now he's in for a very long time, hopefully.

if you don't have brunt of course. just found out david jones was injured for the wolves man city game so still need to keep an eye on milijas. hopefully mick mccarthy will see the bleedin' obvious (imo) that milijas needs to be in that side.

I'd have a whole WBA/Arsenal (and Torres) conglomerate team to be honest.

But yes, I agree people, Dorrans will eventually come good and will be a bargain pick. Like Barton, but will score goals too.

Signs on Milijas are looking better anyway, given he's in form and has his year of settle it'd be hard to see him not play ...but then again, it's Mick Mac.

My brain is exploding with all the permutations. One thing is for sure is that a pts hit at some point over the next 3 gwks is likely and could be pretty profitable.

I'm playing safe for this game week... as long as I've got a decent captain, back up captain and can get 11 on the pitch I'll Probably do a nice simple Konchesky for Jags to tide me over.

Gw 12 is where a pts hit may be necessary.

Ex-Spurs scout Damien Comolli joins Liverpool as Director of Football Strategy.

Comolli was responsible for taking Gareth Bale, Luka Modric, Tom Huddlestone, Michael Dawson and Dimitar Berbatov, among others.

At Arsenal, where Comolli was European scout for 7 years, he helped Arsene Wenger sign the likes of Thierry Henry and Robert Pires. He was also responsible for discovering Kolo Touré and Gaël Clichy.

    http://www.thisisanfield.com/2010/11/damien-comolli-to-join-liverpool/

He'll have his work cut out topping the likes of Poulsen, Lucas, Babel and Robbie Keane as recent great Liverpool signings 😉

A scout bringing a player to the managers attention is one thing. the manager signing them is something else.

I recall Wenger saying something like he only needs 20 minutes to judge whether or not to sign a player with potential. The scouts then repeatedly watch the player to confirm his thoughts.

To be fair, you need to analyse players a bit more closely in the modern game that just knowing they played well in a major tournament - they could just as easily turn out like El-Hadj Diouf or Poborsky.

Wenger did coach Henry at Monaco though, so I don't think Comolli can take much credit for him.

I've decided not to fret about the midfield minefield this gameweek, no transfers, just field whoever is available from my midfield of Nani-Fabs-Arteta-Adam-Petrov

Worst case scenario is only Adam and Arteta play, so I'll just shrug and go 5-2-3 this gameweek and hope for some defensive returns from the likes of Samba, Shawcross, Cashley, Jagielka and Hangeland. I'll review it before the midweek matches.

I don't think so - the only rules I'm aware of are that you need at least 3 defenders and 1 striker. 5-2-3 (with a keeper) gives me 11 on the field , where's the problem?

It isn't my ideal, but it can sometimes work in a low-scoring game-week (or if your defenders grab a goal or two).

For me, though, it is a better percentage option than getting rid of two quality midfielders I'd rather have than their replacements, if there is a chance they may not miss more than 1-2 games.

One of my teams is in a Cup competition. Each week I play an opponent and it is simply the highest score wins, regardless of points lost to make transfers ie I can change my whole squad round, and no deductions. Like a wildcard every week 🙂

Well...how does my team look for this GW ?

    Foster
    Evra - Vidic - Mummy
Arshavin - Nasri - Adam - Dempsey - Cesc (capt)
    Bent - Berbatov

    Gilks - Dann - Carr - Varney

Guess much depends on injury news to Cesc and Arshavin, but other than that concern, methinks this lost will do some damage ! 🙂

I have Fabregas and auto captain switched to form so it goes to Hernandez, just goes to show you how useless that "form" option is, just so happens I want Hernandez, but if I wanted it to rotate to Van Der Vaart (if fit) I couldn't, you should be able to nominate your auto captain is what I'm saying in a roundabout/confusing manner

      1. Is Fabianski's spot secured?
      2. Anyone considering Zigic? Rotates perfectly with Carroll, dirt cheap
      3. Vidic or Evra from the Man U defense?

      Thanks guys!

Almuina hasn't played in 'ages' for a reason. He's injured.

        1. yes, until he cocks up
        2. No...he may rotate well but is not in the same FPL league...better off with a bent or elmander.
        3. Vidic if you can afford it. Evra for me is not performing as well as he did last year. Baines is better for that type of money.

2.no birmingham has tough fixtures after this gw...n west ham don't concede many goals....
3.vidic he is the captain n a regular n he will get goals from set-pieces....

JamsieP, Akers et al have PS3, it seems there are far more PS3 owners out there, connection on Xbox Live last night was choppy aswell, had Fabregas storming through the backline at one stage only for it to chug chug and leave me with Fabregas running out of play!
