Our pre-Gameweek members article which focuses on the main captaincy contenders arrives once again this afternoon. As always, we take a three-part approach which includes the weekly poll standings, the Opta statistics and our Rate My Team projections to help steer your thoughts on the armband conundrum.

The Captain Poll

With a double Gameweek on the horizon, Alexis Sanchez is the runaway leader in this week’s poll and has earned over 67% of the votes cast so far. Having served up eight double-figure hauls for the season, the Chilean is undoubtedly the most explosive option in Arsenal’s XI ahead of their double Gameweek, though his form has been very erratic in recent months – in spite of a run which saw his side win nine and draw one of their last 11, Sanchez has surprisingly blanked in nine of his last 12 appearances.

Arsene Wenger’s side dominate the upper echelons, with only one non-double Gameweek player earning a place in our top five. Olivier Giroud takes second spot with 9% backing, despite approaching the double on the back of a four-match goalless spell.

Aaron Ramsey (5%), Santi Cazorla and Mesut Ozil (2%) offer real differential armband options for those willing to overlook Sanchez. The Welshman has produced points in four of his last seven appearances since recovering from injury, with three double-figure hauls delivered over that period, though he remains a doubt for Sunday’s trip to Old Trafford. Cazorla has just a single assist in five but his underlying stats suggest he’s been more than a little unlucky not to bring home the points. Ozil has produced ten or more points in four of his seven home appearances since returning from injury, though has delivered just a single goal in his previous seven league outings now.

Elsewhere, Sergio Aguero’s 23-point haul against QPR took his tally to eight strikes in the last five since City switched to a lone forward system. The Argentine now makes his way to the Liberty, where Garry Monk’s side have conceded in seven of their last eight. Harry Kane, meanwhile, is backed by 1% ahead of Tottenham’s final home match of the season.

A goal and assist in his last two have persuaded 1% to take a punt on Jermain Defoe for Sunderland’s pair of fixtures. Team-mates Patrick van Aanholt, Jordi Gomez and Connor Wickham are all outside bets, though the Spaniard has racked up 20 points in his last two appearances and has spot-kicks to bolster his appeal.

With 2 gameweeks left, who has been in your team from GW1 ?
Players that you sold and bought after don't count.

For me, Neil Taylor and Hazard.

Make sure you have an awesome bench due to rotation risk. And fill up with a few players from teams that still have something to play for.

Got Sanchez and Ospina... with Terry Skrtel PVA in defence and Aguero Kane Benteke up front...

Cant afford Kane --- Giroud without taking a -8 (Ospina was my first FT)

So its either Cout/Haz --- Ars mid or Benteke --- Giroud

        What do you reckon?

I think you've reached the right conclusion tbh! I have Coutinho and am hoping for some points but I'm not thrilled about having him for Stoke away, so in your position I think it's worth doing Coutinho > Caz/Ramsey/Ozil and crossing your fingers!

Haha ye its an extremely tough one! I'd love to have Coutinho home to CPL but also think Benteke could notch against a recently leaky Saints defence and home to Burnley last day...

i don't think they will, but you'll prefer both Hazard + Morgan over Hendo & Skrtel next week. Try out the side you'll play next week and see which transfers make sense. For example, I'm having to rollover a FT as I have Fonte (mcy), Kane (eve) and Coutinho (stk) to possibly shift next week.

Okay guys and girls, could do with a bit of reassurance here that all is well. Pre-Gomez news I was looking like this...

    Panti (Krul)
    Bellerin Skrtel Terry (Dawson Schlupp)
Sanchez (c) Cazorla (vc) Hazard Silva Gomez
    Aguero Kane (Vardy)

0 transfers left (2.3m in the bank) and leading my mini-league. Did Boyd to Gomez earlier just for the double fixture, which is now of course a 0 fixture.

No need to take a hit though, right? My gut tells me to just play Vardy and be done with it. Agree?

    Cheers!

Some folks here are either over thinking it or just want to disrupt the community by creating more confusion. It's quite apparent that in the present context of Jose's statement play=start. Stop scaremongering. Hazard might not play the entire game but that statement means starts for all 3 of them in remaining 2 games.

I think Leicester will beat Sunderland tomorrow. Leicester will want to wrap up their safety now so they can relax next weekend.

I have PVA and genuinely cant think of anyone else of theirs I want. Even saving for 2FT next week seems more preferable to me than doing Brunt to Larsson.

How much funds do you have? If it's a similar price range, just play Boyd

Save transfer? 1FT, 0.7 in bank.

    Myhill (Gilks)
Terry - Koscielny - PvA (Alderweireld - Vlaar)
    Sanchez(c) - Hazard - Silva - Albrighton (Boyd)
    Kane - Giroud - Kun

Who would you rather keep for GW 38?

    A.) Giroud

If fit, yes, no other reason to rest him.

For the last GW im thinking of bring in benteke and a Villa defender using 2 free transfers, anybody have any other ideas of what might be a good use of 2 free transfers for the last GW?

I'm doing the same and looking at Villa/Leicester/Chelsea defender plus Ulloa/Vardy/Benteke.
