Saido Berahino bags a brace as West Brom sweep aside newly-crowned champions Chelsea at the Hawthorns. Chris Brunt is also amongst the goals, whilst Cesc Fabregas sees red as the Blues lose for only the third time this term.

Blues pay the penalty for complacency

Chelsea fell to a comprehensive 3-0 defeat at the hands of West Bromwich Albion as their 16-match unbeaten run came crashing to an end. Despite suggesting he would field a number of young players at the Hawthorns, Jose Mourinho made just three alterations to his starting XI, drafting in Diego Costa, Gary Cahill and Nemanja Matic in place of Kurt Zouma, John Obi Mikel and Willian.

Costa’s inclusion came as a slight surprise given that Mourinho previously stated he would only field the Spain international again this campaign if the Blues were in desperate need of his services. The Portuguese boss clearly deemed him fit enough to start and was vindicated when Costa came through his 63-minute stint unscathed. Spearheading the champions’ attack – with Loic Remy shifted out to the right flank – Costa looked rusty on his return and couldn’t fashion a single attempt on goal.

Mourinho resisted the temptation to rest Eden Hazard for the Baggies encounter, maintaining the Belgian livewire’s 100% appearance record in the league. Hazard drew a blank for the second successive fixture following Chelsea’s title win, yet the London club’s home tie against Sunderland on the final day should convince owners to keep faith with the PFA Player of the Year.

Cesc Fabregas’ 30% ownership were left bemused when the deep-lying playmaker kicked the ball into a congregation of West Brom players – hitting Chris Brunt on the back of the head – during a break in play. Fabregas was awarded a red card for the bizarre incident and will now sit out the Black Cats tie in addition to the first two matches of next season. His absence could persuade owners to reinvest the funds from his sale and recruit one of Manchester City’s high-priced in-form midfielder (Yaya Toure and David Silva) ahead of their home clash against Southampton.

The Blues have now conceded four times and scored once since clinching the title and with Mourinho admitting his side have eased off since securing the trophy, some may even consider swapping out their Chelsea assets, with the Blues showing little motivation in last night’s lacklustre display.

Berahino nets brace in Baggies triumph

Having been recalled to the side in place of Victor Anichebe, Saido Berahino netted for the first time in eight starts, including a second-half spot-kick. Chris Brunt scored the hosts’ third of the night with a rasping near-post shot that Thibaut Courtois arguably should have dealt with better. The Northern Irish midfielder is enjoying a strong finish to the campaign, with one goal and four assists in six starts, and is clearly enjoying his move back into midfield, with Joleon Lescott fielded at left-back again.

The Baggies’ defence continues to impress under Tony Pulis’ governance, following their fourth clean sheet in five outings. Impressively, the midlands side have also kept out United, Liverpool and Palace over that period. Tony Pulis’ men face an uphill in their attempt to secure another shut-out on the final day when they travel to the Emirates. That being said, the fact that the Gunners failed to score in their past two home encounters offers some reason for optimism. On the flip side, Arsenal’s recent formidable defensive record at home (two goals conceded in five) does limit out interest in Berahino despite his upturn in form.

Who do we expect to be next season's over-priced under-achievers? From Malouda and Nani to Yaya, all the way through pretty much any one-time Fantasy hero Liverpool decide to buy buy – Adam, Lallana, Lambert – there are always players who have a dramatic fall in returns from one season to the next. I can see the main 2015/16 candidates being:

Harry Kane – likely to be priced at or above 9.0; one season wonder or worth the investment?

Rahim Stirling – surely his prospects of warming the bench at City won’t be reflected in his pricetag. One to avoid.

Danny Ings – one of this year’s bargains could become the latest Fantasy nosedive to come out of Anfield.

Charlie Austin – Likely to be more expensive, and could see his points diluted by better players around him if he moves to a bigger PL club.

Aaron Ramsey – Now fully graduated to high-ownership status, but can the good times continue while being played ‘out of position’ in a competitive midfield?

Nat Clyne – Early speculation, but if 6.5 in a Man Utd shirt, better to jump on the bandwaggon further down the line than risk him from the start.

Chelsea defenders – As with this year, Jose's prefered back four will be somewhat of a mystery until the season gets underway. Ivanovic surely nailed, but Terry (if he doesn't retire) and Cahill will face competition from Zouma and possibly a new signing. Which brings us neatly to...

John Stones – Whether at Everton or elsewhere, I expect the youngster will be in many people's starting XIs come the opener. He hasn't done enough for me to warrent a place among mid-priced defenders.

So what do we think? Who will you be pleased to see enjoying a 30% ownership, expecting a flop of Dejan Lovren proportions?

Deadline on the last Gameweek should be at kick off time. If only to avoid the disappointment of transferring in someone who is benched or rested for the last game.

Come on FPL you can do it for next year. Please.

It would be a nice special treat for the end of a long season - and more fun takiing even more of a punt if you know they're at least starting

Not fair on people who have a big time difference. That's why I gave up on the stupid McDonalds world cup game. Here in HK I couldn't keep up with kickoffs which was a huge disadvantage

    So, earlier the arsenal websihassaid:

** TEAM NEWS: Koscielny out for Sunderland

but they've since changed it to 'doubtful'.

As a Koscielny owner I'm certainly not confident.

    Arsenal target, Lacazette:

“I don’t know,” the striker replied when asked if he would still be at OL next season.

“That is a question that will be asked at the end of the season.

“I am very proud, it is a boyhood dream come true to win the trophy for the best player.”

Liverpool and Chelsea are also reported to be in the race for the Ligue 1 striker

Having watched WBA last night with Lescott on my bench I'm left in a quandary. Should I play him this weekend ?...plan was to flog him but he looked really attacking, even more than Ivan for Chelsea.

Lescott looks like a roule whammy chance of CS(!) and attacking pts based on last night. I've never seen him attack like that in his time at WBA...

Myhill has a season avg of 5.3 points per game, compare that to Ivan the best defender at 4.7. God knows why I still have Krul and Panti.

Wow that's very high. 5.3 ppg is what you'd expect from a 10m striker over a season (around 200 points)

If Giroud blanks tonight I'm going benteke (unless he is rested ofc)

      Vardy is an option also.

Be quite funny if Koscielny is out against Sunderland and Bellerin plays.

In GW34 in preparation for the GW37 I took out Bellerin so I could go 3 attackers. In the end I decided against Giroud and got Koscielny 🙂

    Hi does somebody know:

Is there any way to "legally" play UFPL outside of UK?
How much is it similar to the Sky Game? (thinking about givin it a shot next year)
If only UK residents can play do we think this rule will be changed any time soon?

    Thanks.

After being totally written off in late April, a sweet Aguero (C), Silva and Kolarov triple earned me 75 strong points in GW36. Simsalabim and I was back in the mix at the top of my money league. Currently sitting 8p ahead of main rival and 14p ahead of no. 3 in the league I turn to the almighty community that is FFS for guidance. How to wrap up the season and bank the £££?

    Krul
    Bellerin - Jagielka - Terry - Kolarov
    Haz (C) - Özil - Silva
    Aguero - Kane - Giroud

    Panti, Morgan, Bolasie, Albrighton

1ft and 2.1m in the bank.

Rival teams too different for a blocking tactic.
