It’s back. This morning, the Fantasy Premier League (FPL) game opened its doors for registration ahead of the 2015/16 season, allowing Fantasy managers plenty of time to tinker before the action finally gets underway.

A quick look at the Price List shows only seven players will set you back at least 10.0 – three midfielders and four forwards, with Sergio Aguero the costliest option at 13.0.

Elsewhere, Tottenham’s Harry Kane has been handed a bumper price rise on the back of 21 goals and five assists last season – at 9.5 this time around, he’s no longer budget friendly. Premier League new boys Memphis Depay and Roberto Firmino will both set you back 8.5 – as expected, the duo are listed as midfielders.

The big news, however, concerns a number of new rules to the game. Fantasy managers are handed three chips which they can only play once in a season. This comprises the following:

Bench Boost – Fantasy managers will receive all points from their 15-man squad in a chosen Gameweek.

Triple Captain – allows us to collect three times our selected captain’s score in a specified Gameweek.

All-Out Attack – this allows you to field a 2-5-3 formation in a chosen Gameweek.

It’s worth noting that we cannot use any of these chips in the same Gameweek as a Wildcard. In addition, Fantasy managers can only use one chip in a chosen round of fixtures.

On the subject of Wildcards, there’s been a significant change. Fantasy managers are now handed one wildcard for each half of the season – if you don’t use your first one before Gameweek 20, you lose it. Subsequently, there is no longer a set period for a winter Wildcard.

We now have 30 days to fine-tune our 15-man squads until United and Spurs go head-to-head in the early lunchtime kick-off on Saturday, August 8 at 12.45pm.

As always, we’ll be rolling out a series of Player Price List articles over the upcoming days, breaking them down by position.

For now, though, this is just a heads-up. Enjoy.

    New rule suggestion for FPL:
"coin toss": once a season you flip a coin and if it's heads you get 1000 extra points but if it's tails your account is deleted

First impressions of the FPL prices

Arsenal - Sanchez seems a bit expensive compared to his Arsenal rivals. Defence reasonably priced once more.
Aston Villa - Bacuna reclassified and could now be OOP if a regular. No tempters in attack, bar Benteke.
Bournemouth - Wilson an interesting cheap forward option, Ritchie perhaps a wait and see, ideally would've preferred 5.5.
Chelsea- Defence perhaps priced as expected. Courtois + 4m tempts me. Don't mind Hazard at 11.5 either.
Crystal Palace - Puncheon looks a decent price.
Everton - Midfielders look decent prices if nailed. Lukaku tempting at 8m with pens. Defenders priced as expected.
Leicester - Defence unknown with a new manager, but Schmeichel will tempt a few. Potential for a good forward option, but really is a wait and see with Pearson gone.
Liverpool - Very decent prices for their defence i think. Henderson a great option if he's on pens.
Man City - Aguero seems a little expensive though will still be hard to go without. Rest seems standard, still not tempted by Yaya at 8.5
Man United - Loving Di Maria and Mata's prices. Optimistic about Darmian priced at 5.5 based on rest of united defence.
Newcastle - Janmaat looks the standout option in defence given his propensity to assist.
Norwich - Nothing really jumping out, maybe a defender for 4.5. Prices seem standard
Southampton - Mane tempts me even at 8. Question mark of the defence with injuries and outgoings, maybe worth avoiding at the start.
Spurs - Alderweireld at 5.0 is good if Spurs show a bit of improvement in defence. Not tempted by Kane yet.
Stoke - Again, nothing jumping out. Diouf maybe as a 3rd forward pick. Was in good form at the end of last season.
Sunderland - Defence priced as expected, nothing stands out in attack.
Swansea - Siggy and Gomis both look very good options at their prices. Defence not too appealing.
Watford - Ighalo and Deeney both seem solid 3rd forward picks. Holebas could come in at 4.5 and be an option at the back.
West Brom - Lescott at 5m is a good pick into a Pulis defence. Berahino the best of the attackers at 6.5 with pens.
West Ham - Payet and Cresswell look expensive. Sakho is tempting again at 6.5, likewise Downing if completely nailed again.

      Pretty much agree with most of your assessment. the only bits I differ on are as follows;

When Yaya has distractions, be they personal or professional, his game suffers. There have been no distractions this close season. I think 8.5 is a bargain

I think Ritchie (Bournemouth) may still be worth it at 6.0 but I do generally agree on the wait and see. However, he was on fire in the Championship and might still be worth a punt as, apart from Liverpool, they don't meet another top 7 side till GW9

I'd avoid any Spurs defender until Pochettino comes out and says he's changing his style of play. Until then, it's kamikaze football all the way which is great for forward players, but rubbish for defence. Teams seemed to have Kane's number by the end of the season. This is where he needs to step up to the next level and adapt his game accordingly so that it doesn't matter if he's being closely marked. He needs to learn how to find space by himself. I think his 9.5 is fair based on the whole of last season but can see it dropping if he hasn't developed his gameplay

Not loving Di Maria's and Mata's prices. Too erratic last season to put that sort of outlay on them

Payet is an interesting one. Great for assists (17 in Ligue 1 last season) but kinda average when it comes to goals (7). If he can add goals to his game, and Bilic plays him as key provider, 7.5 will be a snip. Not sure whether to take the plunge on him to be honest

I am liking the 5.5 top price for goalkeepers though. Courtois or Hart seem the sensible options considering the price

Just had a look at Memphis Depay. Anyone considering Di Maria or Mata if they really want a united midfielder, should give more consideration to Depay - 22 goals and 5 assists in the Eredivisie as a midfielder. 7 of those were from the 33 free kicks he took, a 21.21% conversion rate.

To put that into perspective, the next best in the list from 2014/15 that will be playing in the premier league for the 2015/16 season was Eriksen with 3 from 21, a 14.29% conversion rate.

It also made him the top scorer of free kicks in the the top 6 european leagues last season.

Of course, any future success will depend on Van Gaal letting him take set pieces in the first place, and keeping Shrek as far away from free kicks as possible

Using the captain chip in a double gameweek goves you a net game of only 1 when compared to captaining someone in a single gw, so not much of a difference. Would not mind using it on someone like aguero vs bournmouth if fully fit

    1. Valar(Keith)
      • 16 Years
      10 years, 5 months ago

a net game of only one is a huge difference.. and the odds of a player scoring a brace over 90 minutes are significantly lower than a player scoring a brace over 180 minutes

Hey what do you mean by net game of only 1? Chipping a DGWer is 2games X 3 =6....while a normal captain would be 4. In a single GW it is 1 X 3 or 1 X 2. Either way the Captain Chip is 50% more...so use it in a DGW. Am I missing something?

Gonna be an optimist and post this again 🙂

So i've been very pessimistic about the new rule changes.. but there's nothing that can be done about it. So lets be a bit optimistic and note down the pros:
    A) I hated the fact i had to play the 2nd WC withing a 4 week period so this is better
    B) It seems very logical to wait until DGW season for the bench boost/triple captain boost.. so it'll just make DGWs more enjoyable. Plus all those "casuals" we are worried about... well they'll probably play them early making very exciting late comebacks on the table
    C) The Attacking boost could be good when your defense is decimated via pure bad luck.. who wants to take hits at the back just cause of injuries etc?
    D) Minileagues will be more competitive and fun after Jan.. Usually, our 20 man minileague comes down to a 3 man league after Jan with everyone else giving up
    E) The pricing and rules makes the need for a bench.. ummm.. necessary now. No more sitting with 4.0 non players.. it makes a lot more sense to get playable players in all positions..
    F) Considering that 6+ valued goalies have flattered to decieve in almost every season i can remember it's actually not a bad idea to price them at a max of 5.5 .. seeing Foster/Panti etc outscore a Chelsea keeper @ 2million less was a bit too much to stomach. atleast now there's a chance of you paying premium for a keeper(ie 5.5) and not getting too disappointed

    Continue with the optimism below

C is an excellent idea. Saves you from a -4 right away. So when your DEF is decimated with injuries it will be a nice one-week pass.

At least it's not as big a shitshow as Ultimate FPL.

    Home grown and Under-21 players

You must also select at least 10 Home grown or Under-21 players in your squad.

"Home Grown Player" (HGP) means a player who, irrespective of his nationality or age, has been registered with any Club affiliated to the Football Association or the Football Association of Wales for a period, continuous or not, of three Seasons or 36 months prior to his 21st birthday (or the end of the Season during which he turns 21).

For the 2015/16 campaign Under-21 players will have been born on or after 1 January 1994.

Home grown and Under-21 players are marked accordingly in the game. The HGP or Under-21 status of a player won't change during the season.

I think the EU implemented this law - you'll have to complain to Brussels, or vote UKIP

After playing UFPL I feel compelled to guard the borders with Rule Britannia playing on a loop.

WC the week before a DGW. Tee up 15 DGWers. Bench Boost.

Yup 🙂 .. is everyone's plan i think. Gonna be very profitable to be patient this season. Especially with rivals blowing chips early on and getting massive leads

      agreed but who

Cresswell is more than the rest but may be worth it

for 5.0 I think I'd rather chance Adrian every week

That's not a bad idea. I usually always just go with one playing keeper, might just stick Adrian in at the start and see how it goes. With LEI, BOU, NEW first 3 home fixtures, it looks good to me.

for 5.0 it's hard to look past Panti

          other than Myhill I don't see a 4.5 keeper I like except maybe a Ruddy/Rudd combo

LEI depending on appointment - just as many saves as Panti towards the end

Doosra said something about O'Brien at right-back so i'm keeping an eye on that one.

They might still go for Jenks

He's hardly stuck his neck out there. Joey O'Brien is literally the only RB they have at the moment.

Sure to be on the search for one though.

Reid looks tempting at 5. The only nailed CB for now, as it seem we're going to sign another.

Can't see JOB playing much, we'll have a new RB by season start, probably Jenkinson.

There are also rumours that Bilic will trial 3-5-2, which will make Cresswell very useful.

Not having these new magical chips atm, another boost for the average Joe's.. + the email updates on your team, c'maaaaaaaaaan... Then again I'm a one captain only one wildcard kinda guy

The changes are probably better for the non-casual player. I still don't like them though.

Well, I'm sure we will abuse em and use them to their max potential... but it will make the last gw interesting alright if someone's average Joe friend gets a hatty and triple captain points in the old mini league... It can really make a difference by a great bit of luck

My mini legague (of 5) have already agreed the chips are stupid and that we will strip them out of final calculations...

Depending on who/if Liverpool bring in striker wise, Origi could be a steal at 6.0

you obviously didn't watch any of Lille's matches last year then.

Lille's team really wasn't conducive for him doing well last year, but even so you have a point, he didn't have a good year. I think depending on if he gets starts he could have a good rebound this season though.

I wouldn't make a proper team until we get the full lowdown on Aguero's Copa America return. No harm in tinkering though....
