After stepping in as a caretaker manager following the sacking of Michael Laudrup, Garry Monk eventually guided Swansea to a 12th place finish in the 2013/14 season, and was handed the job on a permanent basis ahead of the 2014/15 campaign. The former captain went about rebuilding his squad, with Lukasz Fabianski, Federico Fernandez, Jefferson Montero, Gylfi Sigurdsson and Bafetimbi Gomis amongst the notable arrivals. Many of the Spanish contingent at the Liberty departed, though, with Chico Flores, Pablo Hernandez and Michu (on loan) all leaving the club, while Michel Vorm and Ben Davies joined Tottenham.

In this members article, we take a detailed look at Monk’s first full season in charge, analysing the chief goal threats and creators as the Swans recorded a record points total (56) and highest Premier League finish of eighth under the rookie manager.

Some fantasy math going on right here. Taken from a wierd fantasy game i am playing.

Would you spend 18% of your budget on a fantasy-money-maker that makes your 300k richer each GW

Or go minimum and spend only 7% of your budget but then making respecivly 70k richer per GW?

    Math on!

How much is 18% and 7% of your budget?

Oh, i made the percentages to make it relative to FPL,

        But to answer your question;

        Your Budget is 160m

A: Buy Old Trafford at 30m

B: Buy Liberty at 12m or Goldsand at 10m

You earn a starting of 5£ per ticket sold but can buy upgrades at an unknown cost, but after 6 upgrades you get 15£ per ticket sold.

That means at the ground level with OT you get bout 375k per match and at Liberty 100k, Goldsand 60k.

Of the bigger stadiums OT is the best where you get 2500 (TPM; tickets per million) and on the other end is Goldsand with 1200 TPM

My current team(in progress, just started twerking it) is

        Cech, Allsop

        Ivan, Bellerin, Baines, Kolarov

        Mane, Walcott, Sterling, Hazard, McGugan

        Rooney, Lukaku, Roberts, Deeney

Now the players are priced at a decimal on start example: Cech 6,1, Allsop 2.0, Walcott 11,4, Haz 13.5 and Rooney 14.5

        The scoring is the same.

At the moment i am thinking that if i use the extra 18m on my team i am actually set for the season.

personally I think too much in defence. 10m on my bench each week is 1m too much.

Azpi PVA Huth Francis Prodl gives you 1.5 to turn Anya to Ashley Young

      And I've lost you...

Agree different from last season but would rather get Cabaye for 0.5 million more. Interesting one though, just so many midfield options and already have Rooney and Depay so won't go there

Neither is in my team anyway mate - just my opinion!

Cabaye could easily get moved forward to the ten though and young could easily fall out of favour with completion for places. Not saying Young is a bad pick though, decent towards end of last season and looking good pre season

Yeah without doubt if cabaye was moved forward it would be a decision. As far as I'm aware though he's been played in the pivot. But I admit I don't know much about any plans for him. As for young I know for a fact where he will play and as we speak he starts, granted that might not last long into the season, as depay mentioned below that will depend on form and new signings, but as we speak today he is front 3 and nailed

Rooney flanked by mata and young atm depay behind. But I would monitor the next friendly or two. Surprised to see depay in the 10 tbf and am monitoring just in case it's an experiment. Would have assumed prior to pre season that he would have been a winger. Carrick and schneiderlain imo but those two are just a guess. That would be my choice atm, I think schneiderlain is a must for us whoever we play, carrick/Bastis legs.....but we will see.
Not a clue who will be at the back, but shaw looks as nailed as anyone on current form

Yeah that's how I see it. Front four is pretty much nailed on at the mo I think. Interesting who starts the two CM roles. Have Rooney and Depay at the mo but like you was expecting Depay out wide so will be interesting to see how he starts the season in the 10. Can't help but think utd would be stronger switching Depay and Mata but maybe wants more pace through the middle.

Yeah I agree on mata, strange how LVG doesn't play him there, but can't argue with his form of late in the right sided role he's in atm. Depay he obviously knows more than any of us so yeah, be interesting to see how it all pans out!

um, because he played the last 10 matches of last season, has played in the first eleven of every pre season match and van gal as publicly stated his front three will be young/rooney/mata for the first match pending new signings!

he'll lose his place after a few months unless he keeps his form up, but from the start I struggle to find anyone else better value

I don't even know why jose buys squad players as he rarely rotates - the bitter irony is that he should the perfect manager to let youth step up and fill in the gaps yet buys 20m plus back ups and then complains that other clubs are trying to buy the title

It's all about defending. Mourinho insists his attacking players track back and defend. Neither De Bruyne or Schurrle did enough. It's why CHE are so good defensively.

When an attacking manager wins it's the players who get the praise. When a defensive manager wins he's the one who gets all the plaudits about how he's a tactical genius.

Nobody can argue he's not a good manager, I just think it's a lot harder to be a attack minded and win and these managers deserve more praise than the defensive ones.

It is an interesting dynamic, in (non-American) football. In the US, IF coaches win consistently, they are not challenged by their style of play (unless it's dirty, and even then, the famous Detroit Pistons hoops team got respect). A winning coach like Mourinho in the USA would only be applauded, never criticized.

I find it fascinating that Jose faces criticism just cos he wins "only" 1-0, 2-0, or 2-1 and/or lacks "exciting football." I get it on that level -- sports are entertainment. What is interesting are the cultural differences (not saying which is better or right vs. wrong).

2 but with Walcott . You could downgrade Francis to a 4.0 bench fodder

    Evening all,

Would appreciate any criticism on my team!

    Fabianski, Schmeichel
    Ivan, Mert, Francis, Huth, O'shea
    Haz, Walcott, Depay, Hendo, Fletcher
    Rooney, Lukaku, Wilson

Can't decide on Ivan & Hendo or Azpi & Mane

Probably WC in week 4 to get Aguero in.

    Cheers

Worst pre season player is always Trialist. Every year he gets a shed full of pre seasons goals and assists but never even makes anyone's squad 😐

If I go Pelle I can change Mane to Henderson/Milner as that will give me Liverpool cover and also an extra million to splash

        Thanks

I do but I'm normally fairly pessimistic about Saints. I was late to every Saints bandwagon last season, bar Clyne.

Whats been up in the last week? Which players have been hot? Really need to start paying attention.

        Hi Evs,

Safe to say you've come back out of retirement?? My first time back on here for a while, so missed the big summer news.

You got any 'nailed on' players inked in to your starting team yet?

I'm finding it harder than last yr so far...probably means the prices are pretty spot on! So many options...so little money...

Just a question, why do people not like investing in 1 or 2 big hitters in defence. For example getting JT or Ivanovic even Baines if he starts getting cleanies and penos again.. for their price they get decent amount of points more so than midfielders and strikers for the same price and they arent punty at all. You know which teams more or less will get cleansheets and who may score the odd goal or two.. A lot of the midfielders/strikers we now they might hit a good vein of form here or there but they wont rack the points up constantly unless you find a bargain like kane, or Adam when he played for blackpool.

Please discuss, Im currently starting with ivanovic, mertesacker and clyne altho can see Baines coming into my team if he hits form again.

I must say I am tempted by Payet. Anyone has him in his team?

    1. Takamba

      Yes, and he's not moving.

      This years Siggy, imo

Siggy was 6.0 though, Payet is 7.5. If Payet came at 6.0 he would be in every team.

That being said, I believe Payet might very well justify that 7.5 price tag.

Don't see Swansea doing quite so well this year (12th-14th my prediction)

Yeah a £1.5m difference, but I what I meant was I think he'll be the mid-price bracket midfielder to over-perform this year.
