We continue our members articles looking back at last season with a review of West Brom’s displays under Tony Pulis. The Welshman took the helm after Alan Irvine was sacked – with the Baggies lying 16th in the Premier League on December 30 – and ultimately steered them to a 13th-placed finish, a full nine points clear of the drop zone. We’ll compare the attacking numbers from both managers’ spells in charge, and assess the similarities and differences in the statistics.

Irvine was a surprise appointment ahead of the 2014/15 season, having endured difficult spells in charge at Preston and Sheffield Wednesday. After managing a mere four wins from Albion’s first 19 matches, the Scot was relieved of his duties, with Pulis taking over on January 1, signing a two-and-a-half-year deal. Under the former Stoke and Crystal Palace boss, the Baggies secured seven victories from 18 matches, including wins against Man United and Chelsea in the final months of the season.

    Cech McCarthy
    Ivan Darmian PVA Francis Saylor
    Hazard Sterling Ozil Walcott Payet
    Lukaku Wilson Deeney

    Weak attack I know...

3-5-2. Rotate between Wilson and Deeney

Not bad. I personally don't see a reason to double up on any team in any position to start, aka ARS. That's just like, you know, my opinion man. I would definitely look to upgrade one of Wilson/Deeney, to at least a Sakho.

I know this is blasphemous, given my username, but it seems like an easy Aguero strategy is to start with Roo/Haz and then transfer to Aguero/Fab. Assuming prices are the same, which might not be the case, but I can't see Aguero/Fab raising more than Roo/Haz would. If you don't go this route, then you have to either get 2 premium forwards and 1 premium mid. What's your plan?

Oooooo point counter-point, this is getting good. I guess an alternative then would be to start with a MU/ARS mid. I think most people have one ARS mid already, so would you double up? Not a fan of that. Otherwise you go with MU like Mata/Depay.

Sterling will have a point to prove at the start of the season and I want City covered, Aguero is better though. I may end up just keeping Sterling or having both depending on how things go and what other avenues emerge but that is my current plan.

I keep doing the same, i started with Sakho, went to Payet, had jenkinson for a while aswell and now ive trimmed down to just Payet.

Im worried about them playing thursday/sunday but i think Payet could be a big bandwagon given his pricepoint below the standard 8.5mids and WHU fixtures, i cant quite bring myself to oust him yet

Can I get a RMT please people?

    Cech
    Clyne, Shaw, Yoshida
    Hazard, Mane, Walcott, Sterling
    Benteke, Lambert, Rooney

Subs - Hennessey, Steven Taylor, Baker, Wagamama

Appreciate that my bench is a bit on the gash side but no point having good money warming the bench! Assuming that Lambert will sign for the baggies and play every week.

Can I get any thoughts on the team I'm 99% sure I'll start the season with? Thanks guys. Planning an early wildcard, by the way.

    Schmeichel Schwarzer
    Azpi Kosc Cedric O'Shea Saylor
    Hazard Walcott Sterling Milner Bentaleb
    Rooney Pelle Sakho

That team is close to template
      Nicely balanced
I think its best to start with something like that

Difficult to say with the way they set up. I reckon he'll probably score one maybe two goals this season

    A) Silva - Bentaleb

    or B) Sterling - Ki ?

      B) gives you more options but im guessing that you have a decent front 3 so if you dont plan on using your 5th MF even at 5.5m then id take Silva, sterling could be explosive but Silva is guranteed points

    Mane v Pelle 🙁

Mane forces me to either play 3-5-2 or ditch Sterling, neither of which I'm keen on

But Pelle is just so meh

Yep, being the same price, it's going to come down to formation. But I'd feel safer with Mane, too.

I like Mane, I really do, but with him I'll end up on a 3-5-2 with something like

        Mane, Ritchie, Sakho/Deeney and Ighalo/Grabban

        with Sakho as 2nd striker

Yeah, the cheap striker is off-putting. If you do go that route, consider Fletcher at 5m. I honestly think he's the only one nailed on at that price.

Pellè is probably going to be a great option for the first part of the season(once again).

My 1 RMT of the year...

    CECH - BUTLAND
    CEDRIC - O'SHEA - MINGS - HUTH - pudil
    FABREGAS - STERLING - CHADLI - MANE - WALCOTT
    costa - PELLE - DEFOE

    £1M in the bank

by GW 6 would be a front 8 of with 4 transfers (none in the 1st 2 weeks) :

    FABREGAS - WANYAMA - CHADLI - 6.5M - SANCHEZ
    costa - AGUERO - DEFOE

If it's all going south rapidly I'll WC GW6...

    Thoughts?

    Cheers

      solid 9/10.

i'd go sakho over defoe but looks really good. amazing what a team can look like when you go fabregas over hazard.

It'd cost an extra transfer, so I'd have to take a hit. I'm unlikey to play with 3 up front in the 1st 6 weeks -apart from the MANC CHE game.
