We continue our members articles looking back at last season with a review of West Brom’s displays under Tony Pulis. The Welshman took the helm after Alan Irvine was sacked – with the Baggies lying 16th in the Premier League on December 30 – and ultimately steered them to a 13th-placed finish, a full nine points clear of the drop zone. We’ll compare the attacking numbers from both managers’ spells in charge, and assess the similarities and differences in the statistics.

Irvine was a surprise appointment ahead of the 2014/15 season, having endured difficult spells in charge at Preston and Sheffield Wednesday. After managing a mere four wins from Albion’s first 19 matches, the Scot was relieved of his duties, with Pulis taking over on January 1, signing a two-and-a-half-year deal. Under the former Stoke and Crystal Palace boss, the Baggies secured seven victories from 18 matches, including wins against Man United and Chelsea in the final months of the season.

    a different formation experiment:

    Hennessey Butland
    Mert Darmian Azpi Cresswell Targett
    Walcott Haz Silva Mane Milner
    Rooney (4.5) (4.5)

in gw4 i will downgrade mane\walcott\silva to the best possible mid atm, in order to bring in Kun for rooney.

what do u think of it? is it any good?
if u want u can also compare it to:

    Ruddy Butland
    Mert Darmian Azpi Huth Targett
    Wally Fàbregas Sterling Mane Fletcher
    Rooney Giroud Sakho

(plan to bring in Kun for GW4 as well)

    Re Watford tonight..

Jurado has slight muscle injury and isn't being risked. Ditto Abdi, with a knee injury.

Will report back after kick off but it may be Layun is at left back tonight, with Anya in mid field. That was the Mexicans original position when he joined us. But Jokanovic then played him in midfield, where he wasn't a huge success.

Strange that Holebas, signed as the new left back, hadn't started the last two friendlies now.

Will be interesting to see Berghuis tonight..full debut for the Dutch winger.

        Holebas/Layun/Pudil - LBs
        Nyom/Paredes/Layun - RBs

Can't see Anya playing fullback in the PL tbh, he's a wing option.

    Ruddy (Henne)
    Francis | Huth | Azpil (O'Shea | S. Taylor)
Hazard | Ozil | Mata | Chadli (Fletcher)
    Costa - Pelle - Sakho

Money ITB to upgrade Costa > Aguero, not entirely sure to keep Costa in there yet, I'll see what Mourinho says about him closer to deadline.

What are your thoughts? I'd appreciate helpful feedback, not just 'it's terrible' etc.

yep but it's not his hamstring it's just he is potentially fatigued after coming back from copa

If pellegrini thinks he looks sharp enough and not tired in the remaining pre-season game/training then I think he starts

already back in training early so it's positive news thus far

    @GB...

I get the AOA GW1 idea. It's a useless chip and we'll struggle to find a good time to use it. Probably GW38 for myself, or I may just let it go if no opportune moment presents itself.

But I reallllllllly think you'll regret the GW2 WC.

If you're set on AOA GW1 (I guess you are having thought of it), I'd sell your big 5th mid in GW2, save the money and upgrade a defender and get Aguero with those funds over the next few GWs. That'd just need a bit of GW1 squad tweaking. A compromise that saves the WC.

The question I'd ask is... If you had 24 hours to build a team after FPL opening, would you ever even think of this? Or is it just that you've thought of every possible option and this seems best because it's the last option you've come up with? 😛

It could work, but GW2 WC? 😕
