As we mentioned earlier in the week, this season we’ll be working with a number of weekly Fantasy Football games in a bid to highlight some of the new offerings, whilst bringing you coverage of familiar platforms.

We’ve set up Tom Fenley, the 2013/14 Fantasy Premier League champion, to take on these games – arming him with £100 stake money in each.

He’ll be bringing you weekly articles on the games featured that week, tracking his progress as he plays.

The first of these new games will be Premier Punt.

What Is It?

Quite simply, Premier Punt is a Fantasy game that offers weekly and daily tournaments and allows you to play head-to-head or as part of a mini-league.

Not surprisingly, there are cash prizes on offer, with a free-to-play league offering a £100 pot each week.

For the first week of the season, that pot has been bumped up to £200.

Why Should I Play?

Primarily because Premier Punt is a simple step from playing Fantasy Premier League.

The game is one of several to mimic the FPL scoring model, translating it directly to a weekly game platform.

There’s no bonus points factored in but, aside from that, you’ll be able to select a team with the same principles as picking an XI in FPL, albeit with a Wildcard in place each week.

The player prices are set by Premier Punt’s own algorithm, so there is some thinking to be done each week – you won’t get away with translating your FPL lineup straight into your Punt XI.

Having said that, Tom’s Weekly shop article should help you out on that score and you can select up to three lineups each week to spread your risks and heavy-hitters.

With that in mind and £200 on offer in their free game for Gameweek 1, all you have to do is register to get involved from the off.

There’s more to come from Punt, too.

They’ve new game formats on the way, plus a mobile app, complete with a custom game set-up that makes it easier to play on the move.

How Do I Get Started?

You can register an account with Premier Punt here, without having to add credit card details or deposit funds.

Once registered, you need to select one of the games on offer – picking the Weekly Game type will give you access to the various tournaments on offer for Gameweek 1.

One of those is the free-to-enter Gameweek 1 contest with a prize pot of £200.

Simply select the weekly games, then choose your XI and then join up with the contest or “challenge” of your choice.

Look out for Tom Fenley’s Premier Punt article on Friday where he’ll be talking more about the game and the contests on offer and just how he’s spending his first slice of stake money ahead of Gameweek 1.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

No. Lovren seems favourite for GW1 according to pre-season, much to general consternation.

Same here. I'm giving Gomez a go, until BR decides to drop kick him as well. It's a race thing as well, but I won't get into that. Plenty of stories.

        Loved this:

"A poll on popular Liverpool fan site This is Anfield currently sees 91 percent of voters opting for Sakho to start ahead of the £20 million former Southampton man. You can only presume the other 9 percent are Stoke City fans, various members of Lovren's family and possibly even Rodgers himself."

The funny part is Pool fans hated Sakho just as much...until he showed them how little they likely know.

Would not listen to Brodge or Pool supporters for nuggets of defensive wisdom.

Would be apt to disagree, Stoke is probably one of the few he can play...without multiple speedsters pulling him out of position he should be ok...long enough to let you down against top 4 teams.

If Lovren plays and had a howler we might see some Clyne owners shipping, at his ownership that price could plummet fast.

    hi all

    rich here, i newbie 🙂

    ruddy – guzman // cedric – richards – ivan – (morgan) – (oxford) // hazard – ritchie – Wijnaldum- – payet – (sinclair) // deeney – benteke or kane – rooney- 343 – ITB 4.5 to allow Kun to come in

with this squad i have a few questions

my first team had cech in, then i read about rotation so picked guzan because of AV favourable fixtures – is this a good plan or shud i go with someone like butland?

in DEF i have another av defender in richards, is that risky with av gk – should i swap one?

i like my mid but doesnt have much PL experience – i’ve read alot of payet and Wijnaldum who seem like future stars – ritchie was solid in champ but is there another for the money? anyone else for sinclair

up top whilst kun is away i have a few options – stick with deeney and rooney then decide between benteke or kane (thoughts) or go with kane benteke rooney – when kun is back i can have rooney and deeney with him

instead of deeney what about lambert?

all advice welcome 🙂 this is only my 2nd fpl season and feel a bit out of depth but its great fun 🙂

    thanks 🙂

      Hi Rich.

Use this structure for posting your team in future.

      GK
      D, D, D
      M, M, M, M
      F, F, F

      Subs: GK, M, D, D

Ruddy/Butland rotates well so I prefer that.
Huth over Morgan because Morgan has been playing in a tournament over in American recently and might not start the first few weeks.
Use all your budget. Aguero is well worth taking a 4 point hit for at some point. Use the 4.5m to upgrade the midfield to 8.5m/9m players

Way too punty in midfield. Use that 4.5 to get at least one Arsenal midfielder. Wijnaldum's fixtures are not very good either. Rest of the team looks ok.

You'd be better using your 4.5m, saving a transfer and bringing in Aguero in week4 via a two transfer manoeuvre.

i've swapped Wijnaldum with Silva and have 1.5 ITB - or should i go with sterling or an arsenal mid?

    I'm beginning to waver here...

    A. Theo & Bolasie
    B. Ozil & Milner
    ?

I don't like one-week punts (it's why I don't have Lukaku) but Walcott may be a special case...
Then again, I'll kick myself if the safer options in B do well.

Defence is fine. Azpi and Soares to play every week, then the othe rthree to rotate for the final place

We have very similar front 8, I am worried about the potential bench point from ritchie/sakho, but either than that I like it

He will play but I doubt Villa will get many clean sheets with Sherwood in charge.

      Ozil

Santi's goals are reliant on PKs and plays much deeper role now. Most of Santi's output last season came when Ozil was injured and he was playing the #10 position.

Short term probably JOS Coates. Long term I reckon Kaboul will oust JOS though

When are people planning to play the first WC? I feel like I want to wait until the window is shut rather than playing it first week.

    Gents,
What are your opinions of this squad:

    Ruddy

    Azpi Mertesacker Darmian

    Ramsey Hazard (c) Sterling Milner

    Berahino Rooney Benteke

    Bench: Butland, Baker, Gosling, S.taylor.

    Appreciate your views, cheers !

Jolly good except that your bench is absolutely shocking and will never play.

Starting XI is really solid, outfield benchers won't be starting which will come back to haunt you. I'd downgrade milner

    Final dilemma!

    A. Coates, Milner, Kane

    B. PVA, Chadli, Benteke + 0.5

      A.

Prefer Tekkers over Kane but Milner over Chadli but two Liverpool players is just too much. 🙂

I prefer Kane to Benteke and Milner to Chadli, but I need my Sun def to be nailed on (attacking too) and the 0.5 could upgrade my fifth def to a 4.5.

Sure, if the 2.5m will get you more points then the differance in points between Fab and Haz.

      yes,
I have said this a few times. Just look at Fab's history of his first half season throughout his career.
He always has a strong start

Worries me so much to not start with Walcott if he goes off.

Is it worth downgrading Cedric to a 4.5 defender ( will then have four of them ) to get Walcott for Ozil?

Similar to my own dilemma...I don't know. It's likely just a one-week punt with Theo, but he can do a lot of damage in a little time.
