Limping out of the blocks like three flabby Dads at their kids’ Sports Day, Granville, Jonty and myself are in a sheepish mood for the first ScoutCast of the season.

We do our upmost to rouse some enthusiasm for the events of Gameweek 1, buoyed by tales from you, the community and your latest round of finely honed questions, drilling down into the current big dilemmas.

Chelsea and Arsenal’s stuttering start, the strategy surrounding Aguero and Sanchez, plus the top targets ahead of Friday’s 6.45 deadline provide plenty to distract me from the fact that I’d been robbed of a David Silva goal just minutes before coming on air.

This ScoutCast was recorded on Monday evening and went out live via our YouTube channel. Be sure to subscribe to our channel to get updates on the next cast if you want to drop in live.

You can relieve the Google Hangout version, warts and all, via the larger movie player below. Or, if you’d prefer the low-fat edited audio version, you’ll need this link or the smaller player below.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Thoughts on Rooney + Wilson to Kane and Sakho ?

Could captain Kane, currently have Rooney Wilson Aguero , none of which i like to captain, nor ozil/mane/hazard ... struggling with cap decision this week

benteke has a bad fixture next week whereas kane has leicester

Hurrah, Walcott gamble worked, 2ft now to use after deadline, definitely Walcott out before tonight's drop, but who for and how to use the other?

    Panti (Hennesey)
Gomez - Mertesaker - Cedric (Huth, Targett)
Walcott - Sterling - Haz - Mane (Fletcher)
    Rooney - Benteke - Sakho

I think Oscar is a waste of money in that team. You'd save 4m if you pick a 4.5m bench warmer. Then you can get Silva/Hazard if needed later,

Not really, unless you're interested in Chadli or Milner/Henderson play further forward. Better off saving some more with someone in range of 5.5 to 6.5 where there are loads of options.

I'm really tempted by Payet but he'd leave me 0.5 short of bringing in Aguero as well. I'd wait and see on Shaqiri because he might not be pushed in the action straight away. Lens maybe?

Stay away Dick said he can't play on his own up front and considering defensive display last week Dick may play 1 up front to shore up midfield. Either way, a big risk. stick with a big hitter (template captain) to avoid losing ground

Risky, although I like that you're thinking about not popular picks. I would defiantly pick him over Benteke, and with Mane playing Everton it might just be a great way to set you apart and put you ahead.

    -------------------------- Ruddy

    --------- Ayew - Ozil - Chadli - Hazard
    ------------ Sakho - Pelle - Rooney

    Bench: Rudd, Fletcher, Azpilicueta, Francis

Who to captain among Sakho, Pelle and Mane. Only considering those with home games so not captaining Rooney.

My thinking is with Mane and Pelle I anyways get two bites of the cherry as far as Soton is concerned. No need to captain one of them and over egg the pudding. So am leaning towards Sakho. Sound logic or am I blabbering ?

With Walcott definitely taking up one of the 2 FTs for GW3, would you use the other FT on Rooney>Aguero?

Rooney has GW3 at home to Newcastle and is definitely captainable

trying to keep a level head here - even considering saving the other FT and have 2 FTs to bring Aguero in GW4.

Save both. Aguero will take a few games to get to playing 45+ minutes.
