As mentioned previously, weโ€™re taking a new approach to the weekly games this season. Armed with an opening pot of ยฃ100 for each game, Iโ€™ve been tasked with turning that cash into profit and will be updating you on my progress every Friday.

On Tuesday evening, we rolled out our Weekly Shop article, giving you a fair idea of the main targets for my teams this weekend. In addition to the names mentioned, Iโ€™m also mulling over Bafetimbi Gomis and Diafra Sakho as alternative forwards, whilst midfield Dusan Tadic, Nacer Chadli and James Milner also have favourable home matches and could yet force their way into my plans.

There are four time frames available this week in PlayON โ€“ these are Weekly, Saturday and Sunday Daily games and also the Monday night match. The main weekly competition – that includes all ten matches – has a ยฃ1000 guaranteed pot. The daily Saturday games (that do not include the early kick-off between Southampton and Everton), allow teams to be entered up to 3pm. In addition, there are two fixtures in the Sunday timeframe and teams can also be entered for the single match on Monday evening.

The Bottom Line

I had a slow start in the challenge to increase my ยฃ100 pot in PlayON last week. One of the tenets of Fantasy Football is that not every week can be a good week, however – mistakes are a chance to learn, improve and attempt other strategies, so onwards and upwards.

Last weekโ€™s disappointment left me ruing my decision to enter the ยฃ5.50 pots on both Saturday and Sunday. This ยฃ11 was 64.7% of the opening weekโ€™s stake, which is too much to be risking so early on in the challenge on just two entries. My new approach, a bit less gung-ho, will be to enter the free games and lower-priced entry games attempting to build the pot back up and, if successful, re-evaluate the competitions with higher entries later down the line.

Gameweek 1 Stake – ยฃ17
Winnings – ยฃ3.15
Current Pot – ยฃ86.15 (-ยฃ13.85)

This Week’s Stake

Here I run through which contests I’ll be entering and the associated fees. This is subject to change – I may well enter more games but I will update the situation if that happens in the bottom line next time we cover PlayON.

Weekly โ€“ There is another ยฃ100 free entry game allowing five entries. With 1266 entries last week, I reckon these five teams are an ideal opportunity to go with differentials and left-field punts. Like last week, I’ve entered two more balanced teams into the ยฃ100 guaranteed pot for a ยฃ1.10 fee. I entered 10 teams into 25p games last week but I’m reining in my spending again and only going with five this time around. There’s also a Fantasy Football Scout league for the community to enter, so I’ve also put a team in there for ยฃ1.10.

Daily โ€“ For the Saturday and Sunday games rather than the ยฃ5.50 contests, I’ve entered two ยฃ1 challenges. There’s also a free entry game on Sunday, so five entries go into that for the ยฃ25 pot.

Match โ€“ Five entries into the ยฃ25 free pot game covers the Monday night match between Liverpool and Bournemouth.

Total Stake: ยฃ6.85

As a PlayON Pro, it’s possible for you to challenge me one-on-one in all four timeframes. These games are not included in the ยฃ100 challenge and operate separately. You can also take on other PlayON Pros, current FPL champion Simon March and OptaJoe.

If you’ve finished tinkering with your Fantasy Premier League team, why not enter the ยฃ100 free PlayON game this week.

      It's awesome.

Although it did screw me over Walcott. Looked certain to drop last night/this morning so I shipped when I would have kept him and shipped tonight otherwise. Unnecessary hit.

Tough one, not the best options on the bench this week. I'm be tempted to put Francis in front of Huth. I'm really confident West Ham will score and Francis might have a little better chance of nicking an assist.

    Option B: http://imgur.com/2BK0XCU

The only difference is got rid of Richards, Butland and Henderon -> Oxford, McCarthy and upgraded Henderson to Mane

I also have unlimited transfers since just started this week so any help to my team is appreciated>>>

What to do this week? Only got 2 nailed defenders and want to save ft to get aguero next week.

Do I bite bullet and transfer out Hutton or do I go all out attack and play 2,5,3?

My reaction every time someone says it. Played there before, looked very much so a winger out of position imo.

Giroud holds it up well for the team, which is what they want with so many talented, attacking mids.

Wouldn't even be certain that Wally would start over Welbz as a striker tbh.

If you were planning to do Ivanovic and Walcott out for Alderweireld and Sanchez, would you do it now or wait til after the deadline tonight? Never been in a position of selling/buying players for the next game week before this one has even started.

Who would people start from the following:

    a) Francis (liv), Azpilicueta (mci)
    b) Gradel (liv), Sinclair (MUN)

Trying not to jerk the knee and keep two transfers for next week although the alternative to a) would be to use my transfer on Saylor out for Oxford and start him?

is anyone else concerned at how quick players prices are falling? for example Mitrovic of Newcastle has only a 3% ownership but is due to drop tonight. Angella of Watford with a 0.3% ownership is also due to fall. Pretty worrying for the oncoming weeks for any player that has a poor week!!

price drops are based on percentages of transfers out. they always have been.

You would think he'd want two defensive midfielders at City anyway.

    Ruddy (Butland)
    Mert / Cedric / Azpi
    Sterling / Ozil / Fabregas / Lens
    Kane / Benteke (C) / Rooney

    (Oxford / Huth / Wanyama)

    My front 8 is:

    Mahrez/ Mane/ Sanchez/ Shaqiri/ Ayew

    Rooney/ Aguero/ Defoe

with 0.5 itb to do Rooney to Costa if needed.

Is the midfield a bit too lightweight?
