The Watchlist rankings, offering our top 10 player recommendations for the coming weeks, have today been updated to reflect recent form and forthcoming fixtures. You can soak them up now in the right-hand sidebar.

With both Manchester clubs still shredding through defences and budget back fours keeping sheets clean with regularity, we’re seeing template Fantasy squads created across the board. That trend might yet be disturbed by improved fixtures for the likes of Arsenal, Chelsea and Liverpool however, and their Fantasy assets remain key factors in our Watchlist rankings.

Newcastle’s fine defensive form is hard to ignore and is reflected in the Watchlist immediately; Tim Krul making a small climb to the top of our keeper rankings. Available for 4.6 in the Fantasy Premier League game, the Dutch stopper rotates well with the prosperous Michel Vorm for the next few Gameweeks, offering a strong solution between the sticks.

West Brom’s Ben Foster and Fulham’s Mark Schwarzer are another partnership that appears to gel nicely, they also boast strong fixtures over the next month. Wigan’s Ali Al-Habsi also remains a viable budget option, with City’s Joe Hart the obvious route should you wish to invest heavily in a keeper. Arsenal’s Wojciech Szczęsny is arguably the most sensible selection for those taking a gamble on the Arsenal back four over their spell of favourable fixtures.

City’s Vincent Kompany and Chelsea’s Jose Bosingwa remain our top selections amongst the defenders – fixtures fall in their favour and both seem to remain immune to the rotation going on around them. Newcastle’s back four is represented by Steven Taylor in our Watchlist, although Ryan Taylor arguably offers stronger short-term potential while Davide Santon remains troubled by injury. Danny Simpson is your cheap alternative, although he tends to offer little goal threat.

Fulham’s John Arne Riise and Liverpool’s Jose Enrique complete our Watchlist back five – both can be found in the mid-price bracket and have yet to deliver on their promise. Fixtures do fall more favourably for the pair however, and both possess attacking instincts from left-back which should see profits soon enough.

David Silva continues to look bomb-proof at the top of the midfielder rankings – seemingly untouchable within Roberto Mancini’s squad, the Spanish trickster has maintained returns and is just about to embark on a run of matches which should increase his output further.

Chelsea’s Juan Mata is perhaps Silva’s biggest pretender – like City, Andre Villa-Boas’ side have a favourable run of opponents to come and Mata, as the midfield creator, is lined up for some decent numbers. Right now, that earns him a higher ranking than Nani – our current preferred option in the Nani vs Ashley Young debate within the United ranks.

Shaun Wright-Phillips – the subject of today’s ICT Analysis article for Members – soars into our top five, with Newcastle’s Yohan Cabaye also well-fancied over the coming weeks, having so far been denied Fantasy returns, despite some impressive displays. We’ve more on him and Juan Mata, to come in future articles.

The Forward rankings remain largely untouched. It’s impossible to topple Wayne Rooney from top spot right now – despite a run of opponents that will surely test his form and United’s goal-getting talents.

Sergio Aguero is sticking close to the United man, with Arsenal’s Robin Van Persie in third with the fixture list offering him a platform that will surely see him begin to up his Fantasy returns. Luis Suarez holds in our top five, despite three consecutive blanks. We’re keeping the faith with Uruguayan ahead of a run of favourable Anfield clashes to come in the next six gameweeks.

Emmanuel Adebayor, Daniel Sturridge
and Leon Best are the big climbers and present worthy differentials going into the coming weeks. Adebayor has been a hugely popular transfer target of late and, of the three, has the proven pedigree. Daniel Sturridge, at just 6.5 in the FPL and with a strong schedule in front of him, is perhaps the most intriguing. We should see heightened interest in him if he can draw blood when Swansea visit the Bridge this weekend, although tonight’s start in the Carling Cup against Fulham will immediately put a question mark over his starting role for the weekend.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Its amazing how people will scrabble for any extra money they can. Marcos Alonso went down to £3.9 the other day, and today he's had nearly 3,000 NTI in

Sometimes that additional 0.1 really can make all the difference I guess

I have RVP and want one more City player (i only have Kompany at present) can't decide whether to bring in Silva or swap RVP for Ageuro. It's basically -

A - RVP, Silva, Brown, Gabbidon
B - Ageuro, Arteta, Enrique, Jones
C - Ageuro, Nani, Enrique, Gabbidon

    A, B or C?

      A. RVP should be given one more week. You can always transfer him to Aguero then. Hard to say at this point but there is more confidence around here about Silva being nailed on than Aguero.

Completely spoilt for choice for transfers this week
Need some help making a final choice 🙂

    Suarez -> Dzeko, Adebayor

    Jarvis -> Larsson, SWP, Barton

    Walcott -> Mata

Holt -> Best, Di Santo, Yakubu

De Laet -> R Taylor, Ferdinand

    Jose Enrique -> Jones

Choosing two from above for advice would help me loads.
    Any other advice welcome 🙂

It says two tickets to a match featuring a team of your choice (determined by the Premier League)

Keep an eye on FISO this week. You may be able to wait a week and do one this week and one next week, but if its looking like you'll be priced out of it (ie Barton going up tonight and Mata may also go up by Saturday) then i would say do both this week

Thanks for the thoughts all... looks like I'll be holding steady for the time being with Walcott and Taraabt. Unfortunately, didn't account for Walcott being a slight rotation risk and got stung last week

My thought was that getting onto Barton before his price rise/s would allow for the free-up of 0.6 cash to be used elsewhere

Barton appears to be increasing in price as of the next update and Mata currently about half-way there

But he was one of the best playmakers in La Liga. He could easily turn out to be Chelsea's Silva

Having said that, the only question is how long it takes him to find his feet. It did take Silva a while

As arguably the best player in the third best team in the premier league I think he's worth a punt, especially as Chelsea have a decent run of games coming up

lol of course he's not ronaldo, but he's a good prospect, and a reliable source of points over the next coming gameweeks for many as he will fetch home some points. It's just as normal as any player pick really, we're not saying he's ronaldo, just good fixtures, good player.

          I like Bramble and Mata,
Baines is playing for a failing everton, but he'll probably be on FKs and Pens.
Tarabt is over due for 1 or 2 goals but, Mata will probably be a higher score,

I am new to fantasy football and football/soccer itself. I am an expert in American football and play fantasy in the three major American sports with a history of success. I feel pleased to be in the top ten of a 30 team league so far... http://fantasy.premierleague.com/my-leagues/197280/standings/.

I have already used my wildcard and wanted to get some opinions on my team. I picked up DiSanto and Dyer after this week and thought i was being shrewd in adding Meireles last week. What does everyone think?

    Al-Habsi (Vorm)
Smalling Enrique Ward (De Laet) (N.Taylor)
    Adam Nasri Meireles Silva (Dyer)
    DiSanto Suarez Rooney

I have 1.5 in cap space.

Any input would be much appreciated.
    Aloha!

Given you've already wildcarded, these transfer will need to be phased, but you might want to think about

De Laet > Simpson - DL may have been dropped and Newcastle look far tighter at the back than Norwich

Nasri > Nani - Not much point having two Man City midfielders and you have Silva who is definitely the most nailed on and the better player. Nani is coming onto form.

See how Mata does this weekend, but if he is looking good then I think you want to try and do Meireles > Mata, and free up funds by downgrading Adam. I was a big Adam fan myself but he has dried up somewhat.

Thanks for the response....it felt weird to have Nasri and Silva but Nasri seemed to stand out out so much in that first game with man city that i couldn't bear to not have him. I like your suggestions on the Mata upgrade and Adam downgrade. It seemed like having two good players on the same team could also create a synergetic effect where it enhances each of their stats. There are examples of this in other sports like in American Football where one prolific wide receiver can help the game of the guy on the other side because it thins out the defense.

I dont think Di Santo is a good move. If your new to football then you should know that Di Santo is not a prolific goalscorer and plays for a team that is not known for scoring many goals. If you need a cheapish striker then look at Agbonlahor or Best.

its a nice well balanced team, if suarez fails to perform this week then I suggest getting Adebayor the following week which would give you funds too boost elsewhere.

Other then that really its a good team.

I think it's a really generic team that smacks of looking to hard a weekly transfer in stats rather than playing the fixtures and looking for a few differentials. Look for Gervinho up front, Arsenal striker. Mid field gamble big and chose Stevie G, Liverpool captain and midfield maestro and for defence go for Rangel - Swansea defender; progressive player in full back position. If you pick generic players you score generic points like everyone else. Then again you are foreign to the game and you have already burnt your wild card already.... it's going to be a long season for you. Hope you are doing well in your American fantasy sports.

Thanks for those insights. It is true that that i am limited by not actually knowing the sport. I just scour the internet for sleeper picks and then google news search those names to find the latest status. I will do that with the names you have supplied me and try to squeeze them into my line-up. It seems that there could be a bit of strategy in going with generic/popular/trendy players because of getting the price bumps. I have found http://totalfpl.com/ to be a useful tool in evaluating who will rise in price. What is your opinion on pairing Silva and Nasri?

Agreed - but that could possibly change when Gerrard returns. Better through-balls and midfield play by Gerrard would free Suarez to play on the shoulder of the CBs.

Of course, this all assumes that Gerrard has not taken the mantle from Hargreaves 🙂

He's a bit of a conundrum is Suarez... No doubting he's a great player, but whether he'll be a great fantasy player remains to be seen.

I think he'll have a good, if not great season, from a fantasy perspective at least. He's managed 6 goals in 18 league appearances, which isn't bad... but then those goals have come against Fulham (a), Newcastle (h), Sunderland (a) and Stoke (h) last season, and Sunderland (h) Arsenal (a) this season.

One aspect in his favour is that he'll get assists too, which is a big factor as they're only worth 1 point less than a goal for strikers.

It might be a case of picking him for the good fixtures, which Liverpool do have coming up, but they seem out of sorts at the moment... it's a tricky one to call, but I think the manager who picks him/drops him at the right time will reap the rewards.

Suarez will simply not be going on a brace anytime soon, he just wont, liverpool are a slight lost cause at the moment, and it takes at least 5-6 games to gain a true flow again if it is to happen anyway, i just don't feel its their season to do anything really 🙂

    Serious question-
Should I DROP Walcott or Moses for Mata?

I know there's a massive (4mil) difference in price, but that's why I'm asking. I don't have a need for the cash at the moment, but that will obviously come in handy for future transfers. Moses should be playing up top now with Rodallega out for 3 months. Walcott is more explosive and could get a huge haul, but now it looks like his starting spot is not secure. Both have kind fixtures.

    Thanks guys

I do like it - plus it has the benefit of that blue color, it 'pops' off the page.

I think you'll find that gravs like that make it easier for you to scroll through threads to find your own posts much easier ... sorta like applebonkers' fluorescent green.

hmm, having a little trouble linking my team to my username man, i link it in the url but it then just comes up black, and once clicked on it leads to an unknown website.

I first tried linking my team as in the one i see thats changed in my account in fpl, didnt work, and then tried the link from the team left unchanged from last week as i thought it may need my password etc to see my actual team for this gameweek 🙂

                    Link should look like:

                    http://fantasy.premierleague.com/entry/77/history/

But the '77' will be your number.

Yeah i have tried that mate and it worked when i went back to it, however i logged out of my fpl and then clicked on the link i added for my team and it just brought me to the login page, as if to say i need to be logged in to see it.....does that mean you as an fpl player must be first logged into fpl before clicking on my link to view it?

and also when i make a comment on here where will the link appear to my team?

soz for the q's, been a long day lol

Your link will be your username, Mannioni85, but hypertexted (red text vs. Black).

Do you see the difference between my username and yours?

I think what's happening is that you're trying to link your 'my team' page - your current team. That needs a password and - besides - you do NOT want to show your current team, only last week's team. (Otherwise, people can see your current trades)

Go to 'my team' after you sign in, then click 'view gameweek history' under your team kit. On that page, copy the URL and paste it in the website box on this site.

That *should* hook you up. Unless I've totally cocked up the explanation ... 😉

Yep its all done matey, your explanation was exactly what i did and made sense. Call me paranoid, but even though you can now see my team there's no way people can enter as me is there? i dont think they can, just wud hate to be hacked and people making my transfers lol

in fact, just click on my hypertexted name now, it should work 🙂 Tell me how it shows if its right? 🙂

Your history page is what anyone in your leagues can see when they click on your team name - it allows them to see your past team(s), without seeing/changing your current squad.

But I'm still unable to view your link nor is your team hypertexted for me. Perhaps it takes a bit to upload? I'm afraid we've reached the limit of my expertise, here.

Jonny is a 'Scout', perhaps he or someone else can help if it doesn't sort itself out ...

hmm yeah i can see it taking a bit to upload or connect until it does become hypertexted, give it till tomoz and if your on just have a check or when ever you can if you remember. i clicked on the link in my gravatar tho when i added it and it works fine so i can just see it taking a bit to come through.

No you've been more than helpful mate cheers for that, its made the game more interesting knowing i could do that, more fun already lol. If your not on tomoz i'll ask if someone can click on it for me. Yep your right they can only see history etc, no probs, its all working fine but may just take a few hours to link up.

                    thanks again...roll on weekend! 🙂

So captain Rooney again this week? Alternatives are Silva, Bosingwa, A Young.

I think he is a good shout too, but rooney is on fire atm. Considering by the way the season is going its not all about the fixture, it's more about the players.

Silva,Bos,Rooney, Young, Suarez - So I would not bring in Suarez if you don't have him. If I had him I would keep him for this week. Ady is a better choice right now.

Drops are pretty hard to predict, if your finances are very tight it's probably safe to make a move by now *touch wood* unless you're waiting on injury news for someone.
