Owen Hargreaves steals the show as Man City ditch holders Birmingham. Steven Gerrard returns to the Liverpool fold, though Kenny Dalglish is quick to play down the hype. Chelsea suffer a couple of injury worries in their derby win over Fulham, while Rio Ferdinand looks in line for a weekend return as United go to Stoke. Here’s this morning’s Scribbles:

Andre Villas-Boas played down the possibility of a spell on the sidelines for Petr Cech. The Chelsea keeper was subbed off in last night’s Carling Cup win over Fulham after suffering a head injury in a collision with Orlando Sa. With Hilario also out, it left Ross Turnbull as the only keeper available to Villas-Boas and although Turnbull helped the Blues through to the fourth round after a penalty shoot-out, Villas-Boas seemed positive over Cech’s prognosis:

Petr went for a scan in the hospital and he’s okay. He felt a little bit dizzy from the early concussion at half-time. We decided, and he decided as well, it was better not to take risks.

Daniel Sturridge was also taken off after hurting his knee in the process of scoring a disallowed goal and the Chelsea boss also had news on the forward:

The ligaments are okay. If he misses one (game), it won’t be more than that.

To further add to Chelsea’s woes, Alex was sent off and will miss the weekend home clash with Swansea.

Yossi Benayoun took to twitter yesterday to reveal he will be out for “a week or so†after suffering a strain in Arsenal’s Carling Cup win over Shrewsbury. The Israeli will miss this weekend’s game with Bolton as well as a Champions League clash with Olympiakos. Arsene Wenger will be hoping the midfielder will be available for the following weekend’s North London derby against Spurs.

Steven Gerrard returned to the Liverpool first-team for the first time in six months last night. The skipper featured in the Carling Cup win over Brighton but, while Kenny Dalglish was delighted, he was quick to downplay expectations and will continue to ease Gerrard back into action:

He has had a few disappointments along the way and just to get 20 minutes will have given him a lift. We will manage the situation as diligently as we have done to get him this far. We want the same as what he wants but we need to be careful with him. We won’t get carried away with the fact he is back for 20 minutes, but it’s great for everybody.

Martin Kelly also returned from a hamstring strain to give Dalglish a boost at right-back ahead of the home showdown with Wolves on Saturday.

Owen Hargreaves and Kolo Toure made their first starts of the season for Man City last night. The former may have hogged the headlines for his superbly taken opener in the 2-0 win over Birmingham, but it was the City forward selection that was of most interest to Fantasy managers- Mario Balotelli and Carlos Tevez started, which bodes well for owners of Sergio Aguero and Edin Dzeko ahead of the weekend clash with Everton.

The Everton-West Brom clash saw both managers field strong sides. David Moyes gave starts to new boys Royston Drenthe and Denis Stracqualursi and it was the hosts who prevailed with a 2-1 win at Goodison Park. The Toffees are now on a five-match unbeaten run, though the same can’t be said for Roy Hodgson’s side right now- the Baggies have lost five of their seven games in all competitions this season and are struggling to spark.

Rio Ferdinand is on course to appear for Man United this weekend. The centre half has returned to full training this week and with Chris Smalling sidelined for a fortnight with a groin strain, Ferdinand would slot in at centre half once again, with Phil Jones moving to right-back for the away trip to Stoke.

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

Always played fixtures over form and in the past it has done me well, this season I find myslef languishing around the 1.7m overall mark, but I'm sticking to my guns!

Team for this GW with 1 free transfer (1.1m in bank) is:

    Given (Vorm)

Simpson / Brown / Kompany / Cashley (Gabbidon)

Sess / Brunt / Cahill (Moses, Ohara)

    RVP(C) / Bent / Saurez

I plan to WC after GW7 so only looking at next 2 fixtures.

Had planned to ship Cahill out due to fixtures but he's playing up front and think he may bag some points.

Bent injury is annoying, any news? If injured could get ade in or a fulham striker

Plan to do RVP -> Rooney for GW7 so need to keep some money in the bank...

    Any thoughts would be appreciated!

p.s I know my midfield is cack

wow, just when I thought I was struggling this post pops up. I think you can recover and still having your WC is a blessing.
The transfer i suggest is Bent to Dzeko, not earth shattering but a viable play for two weeks. Oh and give him the armband too!
Cahill is playing up front so you will effectively have 4 strikers in your team this GW. Back 4 looks OK to me this week, play O'Hara over Brunt (disclaimer I have neither player) and you'll be on your way back I think. I expect to see a top 100K finish from you by the end of the season!

Dzeko is an interesting one, rotation is putting me off slightly, u think he will start the next two?

    Given (Vorm)
Simpson Bosingwa Kompany (De Laet, Ward)
Silva Mata Jarvis SWP (Ferguson-free up cash)
    Adebayor(c) Rooney Suarez

Ive just taken a 4pt. hit by doing
    Arteta-->SWP and Suarez-->Aguero..
I'm not totally sold on the (c) band, really.
So, should I stick with Suarez and Arteta and have 2 free transfers next week? or should i take that 4pt. hit?

I thought about this too much now and my brain is actualy hurting. Please someone bloody clued up with an outside opinion just tell me who to replace Baines with.... PLEASE!! Obvioulsy the trend is to go cheap in defence, but something is telling me to make a solid defence and add Jones, plus two big midfielders. However if I go with a cheapy it allows me to eventualy have three big midfielders. Out of the cheapy ones nothing stands out for me, the other option is Enrique and I might be able to squeeze a third big midfielder further down the line. Rest of my defence is this.

    Given Vorm
    Simpson Kompany Bosingwa DeLaet

+1 to 1966, Sunderland/Newcastle rotate perfectly and I don't see the point in having more than 2 higher priced defenders who will play most weeks with your other 3 rotating to suit. Bramble could also be an option for 0.1 less but I prefer Brown myself.

4 of Arsenal's next 6 are at home to reasonable opposition, Gibbs may not be the worst given the potential. Granted defensively ain't too impressive, but at home they 'shouldn't' concede many. Just a different option at 5.4. Brown/Hughes also look like possibilities.

It seems everyone here is shipping Baines, I propose you hold on to him for these "tough" fixtures. The reason why you had him in your team is still valid (attacking potential with the chance of CS points). Besides City this week, the upcoming games don't hamper that from happening. Also, Baines (and Cahill to an extent) have a very nasty habit of scoring against the "bigger" clubs.

I'd swap one of them for an on form Adebayor this week.
Without Nasri and Fabregas supplying the passes poor RVP looks lost at times

My defence is Bosingwa Warnock Bramble Simpson Woodgate.
The last 4 rotate very well, and will have 2 of them playing at home up until GW38 (if I went with them until then) and Bosingwa is a good choice obviously. My problem is, will no Kompany hurt me later on do you think?

      I don't think so.
As you said, out of Warnock/Bramble/Simpson and Woodgate you will always have 2 of them at home to play along side Bosingwa.

        This.
Im not convinced with SWA/Newcastle heavy defences as cheap options.
But only one of your defenders is over 5 and the rest are good, cheap rotating defenders.

      Bottom line - NO
Man Citys new 'attack minded approach' leaves them vulnerable as can be seen with 2 conceded at bolton and Fulham.
Last season they were way more defensive hence the clean sheets.

So teh sturridge news has helped me make my mind up.

Sturridge to Adebayor and Walcott to barton.

    Gives me:

    Krul
    Simpson Enrique Bosingwa
    Nasri Mata Barton Arteta
    Adebayor Rooney Dzeko

    Vorm De Laet Johnson Dyer

with 1.8m in the bank... feeling confident I will break the top 1m this week.
