Our final look back at Gameweek 3 assesses Bournemouth’s hat-trick hero, City’s perfect combination of form and fixtures, and the growing competition for our attention in the Chelsea midfield…

The Player

Callum Wilson’s clinically taken hat-trick at Upton Park earned Bournemouth their first ever win in the Premier league and has sparked a major bandwagon across the Fantasy games.

With many wildcards being wielded, the Cherries lone frontman picked the perfect time to announce himself as a value candidate for our three-man frontlines, with over 166,000 Fantasy Premier League (FPL) managers snapping up his services. As Fantasy managers search for this year’s Charlie Austin, who scored 18 times for promoted QPR last term, Wilson has subsequently risen from 5.4 to his original 5.5 starting price.

Delving into the data further, Wilson’s displays suggest he’s a viable option both home and away. Thanks to his weekend showing, the Bournemouth frontman has now scored more away goals than any other player in the top four tiers since the start of last season (15), with Eddie Howe’s team tailor-made to utilise his pace and movement on the counter. The Cherries, meanwhile, have won 17 penalties since the start of last season – three more than any other club in the top four leagues.

With the Upton Park result handing them a major morale boost, Bournemouth can approach their upcoming fixtures with renewed confidence. Eddie Howe’s side racked up 98 goals on their way to winning the Championship last season and with the likes of Simon Francis, Matt Ritchie and Max Gradel all supplying the creativity, Wilson’s growing band of owners have every reason for optimism ahead of four very strong showdowns in the next five (LEI, nor, SUN, WAT).

The Team

After three rounds of fixtures, Manchester City look in ominous form after a 2-0 win at Everton continued their 100% start to the season.

Manuel Pellegrini’s men sit at the top of the table, with nine goals scored and a trio of clean sheets accrued, and with an outstanding schedule to follow, many Fantasy managers are scrambling to load up on their main men.

Up next for the Etihad side are four home matches (WAT, WHM, NEW, BOU) allied with trips to Palace and Spurs in the next six Gameweeks which should allow Sergio Aguero the chance to run riot as a captaincy option.

Whilst few will be willing to go into that period without the Argentine on board, the battle is on for our attentions further back. Yaya Toure and David Silva look the chief midfield protagonists, though Raheem Sterling threw his hat in the ring with an assist at Goodison – for those who cannot stretch to Silva’s 10.1 price tag, Sterling is now just 0.1 more expensive than the Ivorian (8.9 to 8.8).

At the back, Aleksandar Kolarov’s 15-point haul against the Toffees moved the left-back to joint-second in the overall FPL standings along with team-mate Vincent Kompany. Although the Belgian is, overall, the more secure pick, Kolarov’s raids down the left and understanding with Sterling have proven a key weapon in the opening three outings. With Gael Clichy still building up his sharpness, there’s a growing belief that Pellegrini will tinker as little as possible as he looks to maintain momentum and move further away from the chasing pack.

The Talking Point

It took Pedro just 20 minutes to announce himself to Fantasy managers after opening the scoring in Chelsea’s 3-2 win at West Brom on Sunday afternoon.

By the time the final whistle went at the Hawthorns, the Spaniard had also bagged an assist and maximum bonus points, serving up a 13-point haul on his debut for the defending champions. Given that Eden Hazard has managed just eight points in his first three appearances, it’s easy to see why over 190,000 FPL managers have already snapped up his new team-mate.

Coming in at 9.5 to Hazard’s 11.5, Pedro offers an obvious alternative to the pricier Belgian as a route into Chelsea’s attack. Whilst there’s no questioning Hazard’s Fantasy potential – 14 goals and ten assists in each of the last two seasons says it all – Pedro’s acquisition perhaps indicates that the former Lille man may not be quite as “essential” in many managers’ eyes.

Whilst Hazard ultimately saw off the challenge of Cesc Fabregas as the prime Chelsea midfield pick last year, Pedro brings a far greater goal threat than his compatriot, having chalked up a 15.7% conversion rate in La Liga last term.

Certainly, the weekend showing has had an effect. Although he still sits in over 42% of FPL teams, Hazard has been sold by 404,000 FPL managers since the start of the season – over 110,000 more than any midfielder – and, along with Wayne Rooney, has been identified as the prime source of freeing up cash for our 15-man squads.

Whether Pedro can rival Hazard overall remains to be seen but with a 2.0 difference in cost, the Spaniard’s value for money is clearly set to play a part in how many assess the Chelsea attack from here on in.

Repost.. Cause there's a lot of reposting going on

What were your main worries about Benteke preseason.
Would he fit into Liverpool's system?
Would Liverpool adjust their style a bit to suit his aerial threat?
Was he a big fish in a very small pond at Villa and he'd be lost amongst the medium sized fish at pool?
One trick pony who is just good at headers?
What happens when Sturridge comes back?
Should we Give him some time to settle?

    So,
Have those questions have now been answered with the information available to us over the first 3 GWs?

For me it's a yes.. and they've been answered favourably. and he's defo worth a punt.

What's YOUR(points through monitor) thoughts on him?

Yes I think the main striker for Liverpool at his price is a great deal for fantasy managers (especially when their home fixtures are so good)

He is has proven a lot of people wrong with the way he is playing at Liverpool. He suits the system and is working very hard, he tracks back and is great with his feet and wins nearly every header than comes his way.

He does need more time to settle, but is showing a lot of promise

not sure what will happen when Sturridge is back, if both will play or if they will rotate..

I know it's all ifs and buts but he missed 2 absolute sitters!

If anything it's helping Cout get on the ball more but I have no room for cout in my team so tekkers will do

He's my choice of striker to pair with aguero

He's adapting well to Pool and gives them an outlet, a target man and he can come short and collect the ball. He gives them options and main attacking atm

Sturry is never gona be fit 😉

And we all know he can finish based on his time at Villa.. probably a bit rusty. Can see him finding the back of the net regularly from now in. And those next 3 home games are just unbelievable. Got 5 million in the bank and Sakho who needs replacing.. seems a no brainer 🙂

Wilson being cheaper, on pens and with better fixtures much make him the obvious option. Oh, I also scored a hatty last week! You will earn more team value too.. convinced?

His 100% accuracy is freakish and unsustainable but his conversion rate is 2 goals from 7 shots which seems within normal range.

Better fixtures coming too, which should give him more room for error too (as in, he will be allowed more shots to compensate for any regression in accuracy).

That too. Still, he won't see it that way and his confidence will be sky high, which might be enough to get him scoring like he did last season, at least for a short while.

I'd still rather have Diouf though.

2 from 7 is 28.5%. Sure, that is within a range that somebody like Messi can keep up for quite a while, or Costa because he only takes the good chances, but has Diouf ever kept up that rate for any significant period?

Perhaps I'm being too kind 🙂 I wouldn't call it freakish though (unlike the accuracy, which obviously is).

oh bugger me, he is a pretty decent finisher: about 17% career conversion rate.

Oh, but he takes almost only shots inside the box, so that's not a special rate for a striker.

I'd assume that his season conversion rate will regress towards 17%, so he will slow down in scoring unless he can get much more chances. So far he has had more shots/90 than last season in PL, so while it's completely plausible that he beats his last season stats, the safe bet is that he's not going to augment his shots per 90 stats from the early season.

Stubborn insistence avoiding Mahrez has hurt badly so far (both TV and ranking). Here's what we're working with for GW4:

    But [Rud]
    Azpi Cedric Mert [Francis Morgan]
    Haz Payet Milner Chadli [Wanya]
    Kun Pelle Gomis

1FT. Empty bank. WC intact, and want to keep it that way for int'l break/post transfer window (at which time I intend to deal with the likes of Cedric, Mert, Morgan, Pelle, and possibly Payet).

    A) Milner > Mahrez (no brainer?)
    B) Haz > Pedro (like for like exchange to free up funds and avoid Haz drop?)
    C) Both for a -4

Pool weren't purely defensive in 2nd half though unfortunately with about 20 mins to go Rodgers had them sit back.

The game completely flipped in the second half. They battered us in the first, we battered them in the second. Whether by Pools hand or ours, they ended up defending for most of the second half.

Something like 4 shots in the first half, and 15 in the second.

A 25-year-old man (Diafra Sakho) was arrested at an address in Emerson Park, Hornchurch. He was taken to an east London police station and bailed pending police inquiries to a date in early October.”

A spokesman for the player told the Sun: “Diafra Sakho has not been charged with any offence. He vigorously denies the allegations that have been made against him, and has given police a complete explanation of events. He will not be making any further comment.”

    http://www.theguardian.com/football/2015/aug/25/west-ham-diafra-sakho-arrested-suspicion-making-threats-to-kill-witness-intimidation

Don't you need to be charged, before being bailed ?.

I'd be over the moon if United signed him. Rate him very highly, but a lot think he's rubbish...

Aye, it was a lovely assist as well. Meh, apparently the likes of Kane et al. are better.

Agreed, if I was a united fan i would be over the moon with the signing.

I think people have this judgement purely on the fact they see them score on MOTD and if the PL is the best league in the world he must be one of the best players in the world. Oh and hes English that makes him automatically better than most 😉
