Team Form Focus is a new weekly article analysing the in-form teams in the league and the ones failing to deliver. The statistics are taken from the last five Gameweeks, which will go up to six weeks once we’ve hit Gameweek 7. I’ll also be picking out a player who has the potential to do well for the next Gameweek or several Gameweeks. Potential clean sheets are another area to go under examination, with two or three teams being tipped each week to shut the opposition out.

THE FORM TABLE

sarjeanttable1

KEY: P = Played, GS = Goals Scored, FS = Failed to Score, GC = Goals Conceded, CS = Clean Sheet, PTS = Points.

PLAYER SPOTLIGHT

Philippe Coutinho — The Brazilian is now available for selection after serving his one-match ban. He’s missed roughly a game and a half due to receiving a red card against West Ham, but still boasts some decent stats in comparison to others. Liverpool play at Anfield in their next two games against Norwich and Aston Villa, who have conceded a total of 17 goals between them. The Reds then travel to Everton for the Merseyside derby. I was torn between Coutinho and Christian Benteke for the Player Spotlight and I’m strongly considering both for my Fantasy Premier League team, but I think Coutinho edges it in more ways than one. Firstly, the two players share very similar statistics, despite Coutinho playing 162 minutes fewer than the Belgian. Secondly: clean sheet points and extra points for a goal. Liverpool have kept three clean sheets so far, and look likely to keep at least one over the next three. It may only be one extra point than what Benteke would receive, but a point is precious – especially this season. Coutinho also has the chance to receive one extra point than Benteke for each goal scored, though admittedly the former doesn’t have the pedigree of a goalscorer. The Brazilian is cheaper, even if it’s only 0.4. And finally, Coutinho is a differential to Benteke; he has an ownership of 14% and 35% own Benteke. Both of these players could do well over the coming weeks, but I think Coutinho has the advantage of the two.

THE CLEAN SHEET PICKS

Manchester City, Liverpool and Newcastle — Manchester City is the most obvious choice to keep a clean sheet, after conceding no goals so far. Although they are on an almighty run, West Ham could be the team to end it. West Ham are one of three teams who haven’t gifted the opposition a clean sheet and have also picked up six points away to other top sides, Arsenal and Liverpool. But I wouldn’t want to bet against a team who have only conceded one big chance this season. I’m also tipping Liverpool to shut out Norwich on Sunday afternoon. Norwich are in goalscoring form, but I think Liverpool’s defence has the capabilities to stop a newly promoted team from scoring. Newcastle are at home to Watford this Gameweek, and the match could easily end 0-0 with both sides struggling to score. Both teams have scored five goals in total and failed to score in seven. Watford do have the better defensive record, but I’ve gone with the home team in this tie.

Man City mid (if not owned) are the top choices for a replacement...but I think player form and fixture wise Coutinho is a great bet. Oscar as well is another I like - tricky fixture for him though next.

Yes unfortunately i've reached my City quota. Mata looks tempting too, as last nights calamities aside, has good form.

He is class mate, playing different pos, different formation, I predict goals from him this season and Benteke can have a great partnership with him and Sturridge back even better, Diamond in hole two up top.

FAOTW. Be nice to list the teams in order of form, which would make it easier to pick players with the best combo of form and fixtures.

    Thoughts on my team?

    Butland (LEI)

Kolarov (WHU) Gomez (NOR) Cédric (MUN)

Ozil (che) Pedro* (ARS) Yaya (WHU) Mahrez (stk)

Agüero (WHU) Benteke (NOR) Gomis (EVE)

Bench: Ruddy (liv) Westwood (WBA) Azpilicueta (ARS) Coates (bou)

Should I switch Pedro for a FT or just play Westwood and save Pedro for the following week?

    Advice much appreciated 🙂

Of course....dnt knee jerk...Diouf has trailed off in recent weeks...one thing i learnt this season is pick ONLY defenders on fixtures, mid fielders on stats and forwards on confidence level

So if I have Wilson and Mahrez
            Sakho or Diouf then ?

Stoke looked poor the last couple of games, but still two consecutive home games is tempting

              Stoke's fixtures are better
two home games followed by Aston villa (with the return of Afellay and Charlie Adam)

              I will get Diouf

    1) Joe Gomez (NOR AVL eve) or go Clyne/Skrtel as they nailed
    2) Dawson / Evans (avl EVE cpl) But Will Evans be fit?
    3) Nyom / Prodl (new CPL bou)
    4) Williams (EVE sot TOT)
    5) Munisea

I will if you answer my 5mn defender query just above 🙂
I would take out huth if I were you and also plan to take out Cedric after Swans game next week...Other than that perfect....Also i would recommend takin out defenders wihout a hit unless u gettin someone like Cresswell/Naughton

that's what I'm looking at after my 2 transfers, Ritchie, Kane -> Mahrez, Tekkers.

not sold on taking hits I guess, especially if it's going to be another low scoring GW.

and I answered you - Dawson looks best IMO 🙂

@Kurt I think Diouf is nailed, only worry is him playing out wide like he was against Arsenal with Adam and Affelay suspended.

True. I think it's pretty close. Either way you'll be getting a quality striker in with decent fixtures. I just rate Swansea higher as an attacking unit, and Gomis has been key to that. Diouf hasn't really shown much.

Yeah slightly leaning towards that, Gomis has pens in his locker and is a lot more dangerous to go without. If I had Ayew I think it would be a different story though.

            Love the grav btw 🙂

Is anyone considering getting Hazard in, regardless of Chelseas form?

I currently have Coutinho (stuck with him accidentally through his suspension due to forgetting to change my team) and I can get Hazard in for -4

As a gunners fan, I am hoping he doesn't perform...but as he has dropped to 11.3 (i can't see him getting any lower than this) does it make sense to try and get him in?

Or do I stick with Coutinho who was in good form prior, and has an easier fixture, Hazard did also miss a penalty in his last match....can't be on top of the world right now

    Help!

Really struggling this week with injuries - any thoughts appreciated (0FT, 2.1 ITB)

    Butland (McCarthy)
    Richards Kompany Gomez (Muniesa, Shaw)
    Pedro Ayew Mahrez Sanchez (Westwood)
    Aguero Rondon Diouf

    Pedro --> YYT/Silva (-4)
    Shaw --> WBA def (-4)
no transfers - rely on Westwood / Richards / Muniesa (and hope Aguero and Kompany both play 90)
