Our pre-Gameweek members article, which focuses on the main captaincy contenders, arrives once again this afternoon. As always, we take a three-part approach which includes the weekly poll standings, the Opta statistics and our Rate My Team projections to help steer your thoughts on the armband conundrum.

The Captain Poll

After being deemed “100% fit” to play against West Ham by Manuel Pellegrini earlier today, Sergio Aguero has strengthened his hold at the top of our Captain Poll. The City frontman leads the way for the fourth week on the trot, with 32% of the votes cast this time around, despite scoring just one goal in 304 minutes league minutes.

David Silva’s return to action against the Old Lady has convinced 5% of voters to back the Sky Blues’ midfield magician, who’s bagged four assists in as many starts this term. Aleksandar Kolarov (4%) is second (46 points) only to Riyad Mahrez (47) in the total score rankings, having averaged over nine points per game in the opening five Gameweeks. Elsewhere in the Man City camp, Yaya Toure (4%) and Kevin De Bruyne (1%) also feature in the top 10, which is doubtless a reflection of the fact that Pellegrini’s men have won their previous four home ties (stretching back to last season) by an aggregate of 13-0.

In the wake of his acrobatics at Old Trafford, Christian Benteke (15%) is the second favourite captaincy pick. Although Liverpool have struggled at home so far this campaign – scoring just one goal and falling to a 3-0 defeat against West Ham in Gameweek 4 – his 35% ownership might be encouraged by the fact that the Merseysiders have rattled 21 goals past the Canaries in their last five meetings. The Belgian hitman could profit from the return of Philippe Coutinho, who’s been tipped by 2% of voters following his one-match suspension. Notwithstanding his recent lack of minutes, Coutinho ranks second among midfielders for attempts (18) this term, highlighting his strong potential for attacking returns.

Riyad Mahrez (11%) and Callum Wilson (9%) claim the third and fourth spots, respectively, in our list, illustrating the paucity of confidence in the Fantasy Premier League’s traditional big-hitters. The former – who’s amassed over ten points in each of the four matches he’s finished this campaign – is hard to ignore on current form ahead of a trip to Stoke City. Meanwhile, the latter enjoys a home tie against Sunderland this weekend, with the Black Cats ranking second for shots conceded inside the box (29) during their away fixtures.

Only 2% of voters fancy Alexis Sanchez (11.0) to compound Chelsea’s misery when Arsenal travel to Stamford Bridge tomorrow. Couple a defence that’s conceded more big chances (nine) at home than any other team with a midfielder that’s tallied more attempts (14) and shots inside the box (nine) on the road than any player in league, and there’s a real hope that Sanchez will finally break his scoring drought.

Bafetimbi Gomis and Harry Kane (both 1%) attracted a smattering of support. Gomis netted in each of the opening four Gameweeks of the season but faces a home clash against an Everton outfit that’s yet to concede on their travels. Conversely, Kane is still searching for his maiden goal of the campaign but will be buoyed by the fact that Crystal Palace haven’t recorded a clean sheet in their previous eight road encounters.

Doos' I know you're captaining Sanchez but if you had to choose between Aguero, Wilson, Mahrez and Silva for the armband ; who would you pick?

    Thanks

Just a word for Kolarov captainers.

The Serb has been bang in form so far this season, so much so, he's the second best scoring FPL player, and thats from defence.
This weekend City face West Ham at home, normally a perfect fixture, but is it this time round?

Vincent Kompany will not play any part in this game, its a massive blow to City, and maybe to Kolarov's attacking and defensive returns.
Knowing that Kompany was there at CB to cover, is a big assurance for those looking to get forward, leaving certain areas exposed. Players like Kolarov know they can push a little further, take a risk they otherwise may not, with the confidence that, along with defensive midfielders, Kompany can clean up.
Expect him to be more cautious.

When we think of the PL team with the most goals this season, many of us would say City with out a blink. But along with Leicester, West Ham are joint top scorers with them, all 3 being on 11 goals scored.
West Ham have played twice away, winning both, without conceding and scoring 5. The teams they beat in those 2 were Arsenal and then Liverpool, quite respectable.
Payet, in the Arsenal game, was remarkable, he reminded why I love football, I was giddy just watching him. Cheeky flicks and jinks in abundance, his flair was clear for all to see. He got a nice assist in that game too. In the next game, at home to Leicester, he then grabbed himself a goal.
A couple of blanks and then his potential was realised in the PL, GW 5 was where he announced himself in England. He looked hungry and determined, already compared to Tevez with his tenacity a stand out part of his character. Expect him to give City all sorts of problems.
This West Ham team is full of confidence and goals to boot; I expect them to counter with their scintillating pace, and I expect them to score.
But the one thing everyone is forgetting, is a very potent combo that could cause any team I can think of problems.
    That is Cresswell and Caroll.
Caroll came on for just 3 minutes against Newcastle and the first thing he did was legally flatten Tim Krul. His power in the air is undeniable, easily the most formidable in the league. With Cresswell getting a couple of assists in his last 3, it spells even more danger for Kolarov's points.

This, added with them being rocked by the 1-2 defeat at home midweek, their invisible attitude may have changed. Conceding not one but two goals at home must have knocked a fair bit of confidence out of them.

I don't expect West Ham to win, but I am sure they will score.

Man Citeh's attack has been based on their width on the flanks ......Also they have a world class replacement in Otamendi who is just as good as Kompany imo (if not better)

All this did was scare me into playing Payet, thanks for that. Who would you play from this 8? Aguero, Wilson, Benteke, Mahrez, Payet, Sako, Yaya, and Ayew? I am as lost as ever

        Let your name guide you.
I would consider Sako but Palace are even better in the counter. Extremely tough one that. I expect a goal to come from out wide for West Ham so my be just about Payet. 5 man midfield is a headache.

Is there a fantasy soccer game where you can't all have the same players as each other in your league? So your team would be picked in a draft?

I'm doing an NFL league and it just seems much fairer that we all have to share the players, then trade them etc.

scoring is far too complicated, plus it has no autosubs. That's a thumbs down from me.

Anyone Pedro owners see this on FFF?
"Pedro's unlock time was extended beyond it's usual duration and is unknown. If it was extended to the start of Gameweek 5 his transfers out actually suggest a price drop is imminent, and will occur on the night of Friday 18th September."

if this truly happens, then there truly is no system or formula. how could he have over half million transfers in and only about 120,000 transfers out and then drop? no f'n way!

    Myhill (Hennessey)
    Kola Francis Ivan (Shaw Huth)
    Ramsey Chadli Mahrez Silva (Fletcher)
    Kun Gomis Sakho

    1FT

    A. Sakho > Vardy/Wilson
    B. Shaw > Evans/Naughton
    C. Save

Shaw needs to go, but I don't fancy Sakho, so A, if you can afford to take the hit on the value of Shaw.

    1) Chadli to Silva
    2) Pelle to Tekkers or anyone else?

I'm not really sold on Tekkers actually, Liverpool is disappointing so far. They can't seem to play to Tekkers' strength at all although his next 2 fixtures look good. Pelle has incredible stats but if he isn't scoring now, I can't see him scoring with his tough fixtures to come. Thoughts?

    Butland, Myhill
    KOMPANY, SHAW, Gomez, Richards, Prodl
    Sanchez, PEDRO, Yaya, Payet, Marhez
    Kun, Wilson, Ighalo

    2 probably 3 out tomorrow, 1 FT, 0.2 ITB

    A) Shaw to Darmian
    B) Shaw to Bellerin
    C) Shaw and Kompany to Koscielny and Kolorov for a hit
    D) take a double hit and also replace Pedro with Ayew

I've had him since GW1 - mostly coz he's ex-Pompey, but short of him pulling outs something special against Sunderland, I reckon I'm going to be dobbing him in for Hoolahan after this weekend.

My predictions are not wrong, I have predicted a 4-2 with a Ritchie wonder goal and an 8 point return. Wilson will score a brace and get 13 points and Pugh will also net for Bournemouth on 7

Which combo should score more points till coming 3 GWs when I WC

    1) Clyne (NOR AVL) + Dawson (EVE cpl)
    2) Gomez (NOR AVL) + Cresswell (NOR sun)
    3) Dawson (avl EVE) + Cresswell (NOR sun)

By first look although 2 seems best, but will Gomez be a starter?
By esteemed FFS Team News He seems so becuz of his versatility at RCB and LB, but I hav heard people saying he may not play...
Your thoughts will help ease my confusion on who to bring in this week- Clyne/Gomez/Dawson

Bit of Transfer advice please peeps,

    Schmeichel/Schwarzer
    Kolarov/Koscielny/Azpilicueta/Targett/Francis
    Hazard/Toure/Ritchie/Fletcher/Mane
    Aguero/Wilson/Gomis
    2 transfers, £1.1m

I can't decide between taking out mane, hazard or azpilicueta (or two of them) Coutinho snd Daeson are two i would consider bringing in. Who would you take out and who comes in ?

I have Coates Huth Bentaleb rotting in my squad and also have Pedro.

My plan this week is to do Pedro > Cout and Bentaleb > Sinclair and play my AOA chip. then start sorting defence next week. does this make sense?
