Our midweek regular arrives again this evening as we give you a heads-up on our Scout Picks thinking for the Gameweek ahead. This list of 22 players also includes some names in contention for a place in our Spot the Differential article, though will, of course, be subject to change, depending on the injury situation as the week unfolds.

For Gameweek 7, here’s who is currently in our thinking…

Keepers

Boaz Myhill (4.7) boasts the highest total score (37) of any shot-stopper this campaign, having recorded four clean sheets in his previous five outings ahead of a home tie against Everton. Asmir Begovic (5.0) offers the cheapest route into a Chelsea defence that snuffed out Arsenal’s attacks last Gameweek and faces a trip to a struggling Newcastle outfit this Saturday.

Defenders

Only two sides have fashioned fewer shots on target (19) than Aston Villa this campaign, rendering Liverpool’s Martin Skrtel – who’s always a threat from set-pieces – an attractive pick-up when those two sides meet at Anfield this weekend.

Cesar Azpilicueta (6.0) lays claim to a goal and an assist already this campaign and is less prone to rotation than the Blues’ other defensive recruits. Matteo Darmian (5.8), meanwhile, will be determined to perform following his early substitution against Southampton, with a home tie against Sunderland conducive to the Red Devils’ fourth clean sheet of the season.

As the only ever-present in a Baggies rearguard that’s conceded in one of their last five, Craig Dawson (5.0) is an attractive option in the mid-priced bracket. Aaron Cresswell (5.6) ranks in the top six defenders for attempts (five) and top five for key passes (seven), highlighting his attacking potential before Norwich’s visit.

City’s Aleksandar Kolarov also remains in contention as the league leaders travel to a Spurs side that’s scored just three times in the last four Gameweeks.

Midfielders

Edging closer to the 50% ownership mark, Riyad Mahrez is essential on current form. The burgeoning star tallied five goals and three assists through the first six Gameweeks, only drawing a blank in the fixture he couldn’t finish due to injury. No midfielder has mustered more shots on target (10) than Mahrez as he prepares for Arsenal’s trip to the King Power Stadium.

Eden Hazard (11.3) snapped his goalless streak last weekend and ranked joint-top among midfielders for attempts on target (two) and key passes (five). The Belgian’s team-mate Pedro is also in our thoughts, having averaged an effort every 24.7 minutes since arriving from Barcelona. Arsenal’s Alexis Sanchez (11.0) is yet to open his account this season but will fancy his chances against a Foxes back line that’s conceded in every match so far.

All of Dimitri Payet’s (7.7) three goals this term have come at the Boleyn Ground, which serves as encouragement for his 16.0% ownership as West Ham United play host to Norwich. Philippe Coutinho (8.1) amassed a hefty 10 attempts at goal against the Canaries, with only Sanchez (22) carding more shots inside the box (14) over the entire campaign amongst midfielders.

Kevin De Bruyne (10.0) recorded a goal, four attempts and as many key passes on his first league start for Manchester City, which bodes well for their road clash against Tottenham. Juan Mata (8.6) is the top scoring (34 points) player within Man United’s ranks, having drawn just two blanks in six outings.

Forwards

Anthony Martial has netted with three of his four attempts since his switch to the Premier League, illustrating his clinical nature ahead of a meeting with Sunderland’s generous defence – no team has conceded more goals (13) than the Black Cats. Like Martial, Odion Ighalo (5.1) complemented his goal in Gameweek 5 with a brace last time out against Newcastle. The Watford frontman now enjoys a home tie against a Palace side that’s kept just one clean sheet in their previous 20 league outings.

Sergio Aguero (13.2) might be struggling for form, but he loves playing against Tottenham – scoring eight goals in his last four league starts against the Lilywhites. With Christian Benteke set for hamstring scans and Brendan Rodgers keen to ease back into action, we’re going to overlook Liverpool’s forwards until they issue a clearer injury update on the Belgian. Instead, we turn to Bournemouth’s Callum Wilson, who visits a Stoke defence that’s yet to earn a clean sheet. The Cherries lone striker has now netted five times in his last four and bagged a hat-trick on his travels against West Ham.

Bojan Krkic (5.3) scored in his first start of the campaign against Leicester and brought fresh impetus to an ailing Potters attack. He’ll be emboldened by the fact that Bournemouth shipped six goals across their last two road encounters. The Hammers place joint-top for goals scored (13) this season, ensuring that their chief striker, Diafra Sakho (6.5) – who’s netted twice in three matches – makes a strong case for investment.

THE COMMUNITY CHAMPION

Last week, the Scout Picks were beaten by Massive, whose score of 54 points was 16 more than our total. He now leaps above previous Community Champion Fuzzy Warbles in the race to claim a £100 Amazon voucher for beating the Scouts by the biggest margin.

It doesn’t get any easier for The Scouts this week, when they take on the Blue of Leicester, who won the Gameweek 7 Community Champion lottery. This is his seventh season and he has two top 5,000 finishes under his belt in FPL.

For the first time this season I don't know what to do! Any help would be much appreciated. Current planned team:

    Butland (Stekelenburg)
    Evans, Kolorov, Gomez (Francis, Huth)
    Payet, Sanchez, Mane, Mahrez (Chadli)
    Sakho, Gomis, Aguero

    Bank: 0.9

I have two ft's and top of the list are Gomez and Chadli. A few options I'm considering are: Gomez > Otamendi and Chadli > Kouyate / Gomez > Reid and Chadli > Ayew / Gomez > Naughton and Chadli to Ayew.

Keen on west ham from both attacking and defensive point of view. Would be keen on any thoughts anyone has!?!?

    Thanks

I would probably downgrade Chadli to Morrison(4.9) and then you'll have som cash to upgrade Gomez to perhaps Bellerin. Otherwise it looks pretty sweet.

Yeah I'd been wondering about Morrison...could certainly use the money elsewhere! Thanks!

You should consider Huth > Nyom. Leicester can't keep a clean sheet to save their lives. I think you should hold off a bit on Chadli. He could begin to do well now that Eriksen is back. If you're keen on moving him out, Hoolahan looks good. Maybe Moses. Have you thought about moving out Sakho for maybe Ighalo?

Haha, yeah he's permanently stuck to my bench! Nyom a great shout, thanks. I'd been prioritising Gomez but maybe Huth should be first. Hmmmm, I'd toyed with the idea of Ighalo...gonna see how Sakho does this week I think and then decide. Reason I wanted to ditch Chadli was due to fixtures which look pretty horrible to me over the coming 9 weeks or so

    A: Konè -> Ighalo

    or

    B: Konè -> Bojan?

    Also got Wilson and Kun.

My midfield is Payet - Ayew - Sanchez (c) - Silva - Mahrez.

Thinking of putting Mahrez on the bench for the weekend, or would that be crazy?

Yes. Don't bench Mahrez, he is the most in form player in the league.

Ighalo. Benching Mahrez is a risky move considering his form... Benching Ayew makes more sense

It depends on how much you have itb. If you need the cash, pick Ighalo. Otherwise, Bojan has juicy fixtures coming up

Decided to use my WC, here is my current draft:

    Butland Myhill
    Cresswell Dawson Dier Francis Kolarov
    Coutinho KDB Payet Mahrez Westwood
    Wilson Aguero Martial

    0,5 ITB

Considering Yaya instead of KDB -> upgrade Westwood to Sako.

    Any comments or recommendations welcome!

    Cheers!

Why Coutinho? His form isn't exactly encouraging. Hold off a bit. His fixtures don't look too good after Villa. Barkley seems to do well regardless of the fixtures. Mane or Mata are good options too

True. But I could play him just this GW and then swap him to e.g. Mata.

Very very expensive defence. It's great, but do you need all that money invested there?

I was thinking the same first, but then again I am not sure, who I should upgrade from midfield or up front if I downgrade some of the defence.

Personally, I'd try to upgrade Westwood to someone who will score points when he has to be used. Otherwise, keep more in the bank, so you can do a one off upgrade to any player you think is on a hot streak and is essential.

Don't get me wrong though, your defence is great.

Questions for the scouts in line with their picks and the forums as well. If you didn't have a budget who would be in your teams for the next few gameweeks and if you only had half the budget who would make the cut?

On a side note which three teams do you think will be dropping this season and which three would you like to see come up from the championship?

For me Down - Newcastle, Sunderland, Norwich

    Up - Brighton, Reading, QPR

    Hi everyone,

Does anyone know where I can the find the actual points for each players, week by week, so far in the same format as the either "rate my team" or "projections" formats.? I.e. GW 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6

I am not interested in the projected numbers for the player instead I am after the actual points that the player received for that week.

I can't seem to find this anywhere.

    Thanks

I'm a bit torn this week!! Martial Captain.

    Hart
    Kolarov - Williams - Clyne - Cresswell
    Mahrez - Payet - Depay - Ayew
    Rooney - Martial

    bench - Fabianski / Cabaye / Cisse / Janmaat

Kind of punting Rooney to manage a goal against Sunderland, but at the time time he sucks so bad I don't know if I should take him off for Cabaye.. Considering replacing him altogether, still have my transfer left this week. Priority on Replacing Rooney or improving my abysmal bench?

    1. Thomas Magnum
      • 10 Years
      10 years, 4 months ago

That's a lot of United but I think Rooney is due a goal and it would be very disappointing if he cant against a Sunderland team who haven't kept a clean sheet so if you want a risky differential than play him and maybe even captain him

      1. vaco
        • 10 Years
        10 years, 4 months ago

Thanks for your input - yea It's a lot of United.. but I just brought Martial in for Benteke..I'll probably be getting rid of Depay or Rooney in the following weeks, Utds next fixtures seem iffy.

I don't know about captaining rooney just yet - I'm hesitent to even put him on the pitch to be honest.

Really unsure about Cabaye staying on the bench..

Could replace him with Rooney, Depay, Clyne or Ayew...

Although I don't think Villa will score against Liverpool so Clyne probably stays.

My WC is in play this week and I'm torn on a few options

    Here's where I'm at

    DDG (Myhill)

Bellerin Zouma Kolarov (Targett) +1 - Currently Sagna

Payet Mahrez, Hoolahan +2 - Currently Ayew and Hazard

    Aguero Martial Wilson

    A) Dawson, Mata and De Bruyne

    or

    B) Sagna, Ayew and Hazard/Sanchez

or do I do I take out DDG and do C

    c) McCarthy, Mata and Hazard/Sanchez

    1. Usmanov

You already have Myhill so just get a cheaper keeper. DDG for Gomes maybe? I'd get a City midfielder too and a WBA defender. Evans or Dawson.

Need some transfer advice. I'm in multiple leagues and it's my first time doing a league that does not allow subs. The team consists of just a starting XI with 2 transfers a week.

    Current Team:
    GK: Myhill
    DEF: Cresswell, Amavi, Kolarov, Kompany
    MID: Silva, Payet, Mahrez, Hazard
    ATT: Sanchez, Martial

Already used one transfer and swapped Hoolahan for Martial. I'm planning on using the second transfer with the assumption that both Kompany and Silva are fully fit for the weekend. I was planning on getting rid of either Amavi or Sanchez. My reasoning..........
    A) J. AMAVI - Seems to be extremely erratic and his next 6 matches appear more difficult than his first 6 matches... which doesn't leave much room for optimism.
    B) SANCHEZ: Not playing super awesome at the moment and too expensive for his production.

These are my potential pickups if I drop Amavi based on my limited funds: My primary choice is Francis or maybe Daniels (to save some money). Since they play Stoke, good chance they are gonna get some points. Other players I was considering are Sinclair (and he takes free kicks), Drinkwater, M'Vila, Capoue, Obiang, and Hutton.

I would prefer to drop Amavi over Sanchez but obviously Sanchez would free up a lot of money that is currently being wasted. If I drop Sanchez, I was considering grabbing Wilson, Vardy, or Sakho.... I'd appreciate your input.

    I desperately need some help. I haven't been performing really well. I am an Arsenal supporter and I think Arsenal players are holding me back. This is my team for this week;

    Begovic
    Sagna - Bellerin - Gomez
    Silva - Ozil - Ayew - Sanchez
    Wilson - Aguero - Sakho

    Bench: McCarthy, Mahrez, Cameron, Oxford

I have used up my free transfer already this week but I am up for some changes which can help me in the long run. I only have 0.1m in bank. Also, I need some advice about the lineup. I am thinking of playing Mahrez, but then there is no point playing Bellerin. And if I play Stoke's Cameron then there is no point playing Bournemouth's Wilson.

    Guys please help.

    HI All,

    Long time follower and pod cast listener but just signed up today. Think I need some drastic help with my team right now. My team for the coming week is;

    McCarthy (Ruddy)
    Darmian, Gomez, Sagna (Targett) (Richards)
    Silva, Sanchez, Coutinho, Hoolahan (Albrighton)
    Aguero, Gomis, Sakha

On Sunday night I did Gomis -> Martial to beat the price increase so he goes straight in above and I have 0.8m in the bank.

I know I need to take a hit but have so many concerns, esp as Gomez and Targett look to be no longer starters.

Any ideas guys? Was contemplating doing Albrighton to Sako and playing AoA this week - starting just Darmian and Sagna at the back and then sorting out the defence next week....

    All advice gratefully received.

Not sure you need a hit, Gomez might play, I would look at the line up tonight, if he doesn't start, he probably will this weekend.

Hoolahan is the only one prone to a bit of rotation, but you have Albrighton as back up. I think you would be unlucky if neither did 60+ minutes.

Hi guys, I'm new to FPL and in need of some advice. I did post this yesterday but I'd like some opinions from a different crowd. This is my current team ready for GW7. I have one FT and 1m in the bank.

    Cech (Myhill)
    Azpi Fonte Creswell (Francis) (Morgan)
    Payet Hazard Bolasie Yaya (Wanyama)
    Aguero Wilson Vardy

Somebody suggested Fonte>Kolarov and another suggested playing Francis instead of Vardy.

    Any other suggestions? Many thanks!

If you have Vardy starting whats the point of playing Cech? Pick Myhill or bench Vardy, you dont want to have conflicting strikers and keepers

I don't believe in the "if you have opposing players don't play one" rule all the time. That said, I think Myhill is a better pick as Leicester finds a way to score so less of a chance of a CS for Cech. Ditto Myhill, don't see a CS but he will likely make more saves and could pick up bonus points.

No rush to get rid of Fonte. But if you keep him I would play Francis. Both BOU and SOT have about same chance of CS. Like Francis to get assist.

Yaya, Mahrez, Barkley, Payet (v), (Sako)
    Martial (c). Ighalo, Wilson

If Kompany still isn't fit to play, i'll go AOA, but if he's fit, i can't decide wether to bench:

    Sako - Wat (A)
    Wilson - Sto (A)
    Barkley - Wba (A)

    I've even considered Yaya - Tot(A) or Mahrez - Ars(H)...

I would really appreciate it if anyone had some input!

    1 FT
    4.1M ITB

    Mingolet, (Schmeichel)
    Kompany, Azpilicueta, Kolarov, Cresswell, (Gomez)
    Sanchez, Mahrez, Yaya, Walcott (Coquelin)
    Wilson, Kone, (Benteke)

    1) I obviously need to make a move(s) this week, but only have 1 FT so what makes the most sense?

    A) Coquelin -> Payat
    B) Benteke or Kone -> Vardy
    C) Gomez -> Stones or Dawson
    D) Sanchez or Walcott -> Pedro
    E) Something else

    2) Who gets the armband this week? Mahrez is my normal stalwart but don’t like the fixture this week.

    Thanks for the advice!

      A. I'd consider toning down on Arsenal players until they hit some sort of form. You'll probably need a WBA defender later on too.

Indeed, FPL wise this was the main event of the league cup round: Lindegaard losing his WBA debut against a weakened Norwich squad, conceding 3 from just 5 shots on target.

      I suggest:
De gea>Myhill(As ManU have tough fixtures coming up)
Ozil>>Ayew/Barkley(I am myself confused with this)
      Darmian>> Dawson
      Targett>> Cresswell
