There were no new victims over the weekend, and no red cards either, but the Suspension Tightrope sleeps for no man, and, after a flurry of cards, it duly snapped up a glut of unwilling funambulists to head into Gameweek 8.

Villa’s Ciaran Clark, Sunderland centre-half Seb Coates and Leicester left-back Jeffrey Schlupp all survived the week unscathed, though the former pair’s causes were helped by the fact they were both unused subs for respective clashes with Liverpool and Man United.

That trio were joined by four new protagonists, who all picked up their fourth cautions of the season in the Gameweek 7 match ups.

The first couple were served up in an action-packed lunchtime clash at White Hart Lane, as Spurs overcame table toppers City with an energetic display that saw five of their front six players booked once they took the lead in the second-half. Goalscorer Eric Dier and his centre midfield partner Dele Alli took their tallies to four for the season for fouls on Fernandinho and Patrick Roberts respectively. Dier has already been drafted in by over 42,000 Fantasy Premier League (FPL) managers since the weekend, making him the fourth more sought-after player of the Gameweek.

Next to don the soft shoes and prepare for an acrobatic stint was Sunderland’s Billy Jones. The right-back is no stranger to these parts, with eight bookings in two of the last three seasons, and at least four cards in all of the last five years, despite his failure to secure a regular role at West Brom or Sunderland in that time. Jones scythed down Memphis Depay to earn himself a first taste of the ’15/16 Tightrope.

Finally, the seventh of the current crop of Tightrope walkers – and perhaps one of the most familiar faces of recent times – was Newcastle’s Jack Colback. The combative midfielder joined the party after a first-half booking picked up for a foul on Loic Remy. Fortunately for Jack, injury interrupted his second-half, so he’ll have to wait until at least next week to see if he can add to his growing collection of cards.

True fans of the Tightrope will be more than aware of Colback’s “previous”. Nurtured under the wing of Lee Cattermole at Sunderland, the ginger-haired battler learned quickly from his mentor, picking up a single card in his debut season, upgrading that to three bookings the next term, then five in ’12/13 and seven in his final season with Cattermole on Wearside. A switch to neighbours Newcastle saw Colback blossom into a full-scale disciplinary menace and, in ’14/15, he duly upped his output to 12 cautions – a total bettered only by former team-mate Cattermole (14) last time out. Four cards in just under 650 minutes this season is no surprise, and puts him high on the list of those expected to fall into a ban in his next outing.

Below those players, there are 16 faces currently sitting on three yellows. Branislav Ivanovic, Jose Fonte, Oriol Romeu, Jonjo Shelvey, Yohan Cabaye and Erik Lamela are the new names, having collected a third caution of the campaign over the last two days.

There are no newly-suspended players so far this week, with only tomorrow’s Hawthorns clash between West Brom and Everton remaining.

Arsenal’s Gabriel is available for selection again, having served a one-match ban in yesterday’s 5-2 win at Leicester. Three players still remain suspended for Gameweek 8. Diego Costa, Kevin Mirallas and Valon Behrami all serve the last of three-bans against Southampton, Liverpool and Bournemouth respectively.

    Would you do

    Gomis -> Sturridge
Ayew -> Cattermole (or another 4.3) for 5th mid
McCarthy -> Hennesey (To make it possible moneywise and McCarthy surely will end up on the bench after today's first clean sheet of the season with Hennesey playing)

    for -4?

I wouldn't. I think you can get Sturridge-level performance from Vardy, Pelle, Sakho, for much less cost.

Owning sturridge means you can't own as many big mids. I think he's about 1.5m overpriced, in other words.

Yeah, you're probably right! I like him as a player though, great footballer when he's fit. I'm sticking with Gomis for now, and wait for news on Yaya's update. Thanks!

I've never had Mata since his Chelsea days. What puts me off is that, for me at least, he is still a square peg in a round hole. He's not a winger so I'm still stuck with this feeling of the temporary.

Could be a change of emphasis, tactically. Rose is more a wingback in the way he plays, plus not very useful during defending set pieces. Davies offers more defensively and a reasonable attacking threat from his days with Swansea.

New season, new start. Not unusual to give a player time to settle, nor unusual to give the current guy in the seat his chance to make it his own.

No surprise the Tottenham look more assured with their current back 4.

He has the starting job for now- and looks good so its hard to see him being dropped. But the risk element will always be there. I think its worth a punt provided that you have other playing options on your bench, just in case he gets dropped.

It kinda depends on whether you believe that Tottenham will keep clean sheets. If yes, then he could be good value.
Personally, I'd she'll out the extra 0.5 and get Alderweireld. Assured of starts, good BPS figures, and some attacking threat.

    A) Kane - will that goal open the flood gates?

    C) Pelle - a home track specialist

    E) Vardy - will require a hit as I already have 3 Lei players

Sorry late reply! Yes Celtics will be good this year- they could get 50 wins in the east. Brad Stephens is a great coach. Not quite sure about the draft picks though. But I think their main aim this year will be to pull a trade or two- convert all of those assets into one or two really good players. Would still have enough assets left over to have a really good supporting cast. Might be wishful thinking, but we will see...

I'm quite experienced with fantasy and this is how I think about being on WC this week.
    Cheap defender pool:
    Hennessey 3.9
Janmaat 4.9 Produce most chances in Newcastle. Could be a really good pick.
Moreno 4.7 Attacking points is a plus. Rotates great with Janmaat
Simpson. 3.9 Will never use, cheap and competing with de Laet. Could come in to contention later on.

    My team's core players:
KdB: Hard to overlook with his precence and upcoming fix.
Sanchez: One week too late, but better now and later.
Aguero: Best attacker in the league, goals will come.
Mahrez: Producing way more than his price would indicate
Payet: For now, a real good asset to every fantasy team. Fixture proof too.

The two defender spots: I have a feeling Arsenal could end up with most cs's. Monreal seems to have a good partnership with Sanchez. And his owned by far fewer than Bellerin. 5.5. Worth it.
Kolarov. As long as Clichy is injuried, he's a must have.

Keeper: With Janmaat, no room for Krul. Stoke is leaky, but 'land got a steady income of points. Him or Myhill, depends if I need those extra 0.1 I get for going with Butland.

Last midfielder and two forward's spot.
I fancy doubling on Leicester. Vardy is cheap and looks very solid. Could trade to Mitrovic when he explodes (I think he will). Pelle is good, and a bit cheaper than Martial. I want to have Soton cover, and Peller over Mane for now. Studge too costly.

That leaves 5.1/5.2 itb for 5th mid. Got to be Hoolahan. Could try to fit in Sako by downgrading one defender. Not sure Sako will start anyways... Not considering Ighalo.

    Thoughts on my thoughs?

    Sanchez KDB Coutinho Mahrez
    Aguero (c) Vardy Gomis

    McCarthy Westwood Huth Muniesa

Spent FT on Wilson > Vardy. No hits this season but I'm now considering selling Gomis for Sakho/Rondon because I'm afraid he won't start and will get rid of him the next couple of weeks anyway. Good to go or would you hit it?

I'd do Gomis -> Sakho especially since you don't even have Payet.

Im debating these moves also as I have no money itb so can only afford a player with 5.7 price tag or lower. I have yet to take a hit though and would rather not
