With Wayne Rooney fit to face Norwich and Sergio Aguero sizing up Blackburn at Ewood, it seemed unlikely that we’d be pondering the merits of another when Brucie stumbles over his autocue this evening. Today strictly belonged to Gabby Agbonlahor however, as the Villa roadrunner unveiled a full repertoire of pace, power and trickery to waltz through a hapless Wigan defence.

As Rooney huffed and puffed against Norwich resistance, his fellow Manchester hitman was already clutching an ice-pack to a 27th minute injury that saw Aguero forced off and miss out on an Ewood massacre. That left the headlines open for Agbonlahor; he duly added another chapter to an unlikely tale of his ascent back to England recognition.

While Fabio may resist, Fantasy managers will now be well aware of Agbonlahor’s resurgence. Four goals in seven starts, three assists thrown in – a top 10 EA PPI placing – the case is looking a strong one.

Ownership has been creeping up at pace, and now, with a prolonged break for international distractions, you can bet that Agbonlahor’s charms will attract further investment – another FPL price rise piled on his now generous 6.5 initial valuation.

The engine on Agbonlahor’s bandwagon sounds healthy; for many he will now surely emerge as the favoured third striker option, sandwiched between two heavyweights. On a day where two such “big-hitting†strikers disappointed, the potential offered by Agbonlahor shines brighter than ever.

Typically, I can throw a sizeable spanner in the works, a few speed bumps in the road. Agbonlahor and Villa go to Man City next; Roberto Mancini’s side are yet to concede a single goal at home in three matches this season. Regardless, with many Fantasy forward lines stalling today, I’d wager thousands will turn Agbonlahor’s way to help salve the disappointment.

*edit* – Since publish, Gabriel Agbonlahor has Spoken to the BBC (see 17:39) and confirmed that he will be using the upcoming International Break to try and fix a niggle he has been carrying. He confirmed…

“I’ve got a back problem. I’m going to get it sorted during the international break.”

This news may in fact temper some of the early knee-jerkers with full prognosis on potential back woes perhaps needed before it can be full steam ahead on the Agbonlahor bandwagon.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

You know what, the majority of managers are always moaning about the transfer windows and that they make the job harder, but they should be bloody grateful that they only need to worry about making changes for a few weeks out the year instead of every bloody day like us poor b*stards

And they get paid ££££ for doing it!

Think of it this way, we can choose from the whole PL. They have 25 players! We should be the ones who feel lucky 😛

Very strange to me that De Gea was on the bench. I wonder if SAF decided to keep him out of the spotlight after the ridiculous donut stealing incident. Tough blow for any De Gea owners. Anyone know something more on why he was rested?

Doubt it - wouldn't spend £20M for a backup GK.

Even so, next 3 fixtures are horrid - Liverpool(A), City(H), Everton(A), and our defence is too open atm which is why De Gea has made the most saves in the league so far.

Fergie's post match INT said that he did it because de Gea will have internation games and Lindegaard won't. Keeping the match fitness going. I feel better about the situation these days, last year with Kuzsack was hell, never a solid performance.

If Fergie says it, then it must be true.
Find it hard to believe that a 21y old goalie can't play 3games in two weeks. On top of that, de gea is the 3rd gk, and will not play a single min for Spain

    evening gents,

    concerning prices:

because rvp has easy fixtures will his price rise?

also because of agueros injury will his price drop?

My gut is telling me to make the change even tho glasslegs is playing during int break. i have aguero and .5mil in the bank. should i do it now while i can afford it?

Do I wildcard this lot or not?

    Vorm, Given
    Kompany, Bosingwa, Anton, Brown, Simpson
    Moses, Arteta, Taarabt, Mata, Surman
    Adebayor, Aguero, Rooney

The major issue is getting Silva in. A WC would get get a much better MF, but at the expense of losing Kompany and downgrading Given to Al Habsi.

No money to be made this WC so if I play it now it will be purely to sort my team out for no hit.

So, do I stick or twist tonight?

I think you need to decide how the points are likely to be allocated over the long term re defenders v midfielders.

You alluded to my team earlier as lacking "balance" but I decided to play my w/c last week because I took the central view that midfielders would score more points than defenders - particularly of the goalscoring variety.

In my opinion, players like Mata, Silva and Nani are just too important to leave out the way the scoring/baps are going. 😕

Think I can keep Bosingwa and lose Kompany for Enrique or Shawx and beef up the MF. Not fussed about an expensive defence this season, not worth it really.

However, MC and MU next couple of games aren't great. I have £1.2m in bank so could get rid of Moses for a £6m MF for no hit or take a 4 pointer and get Silva in.

Or I could just sweep it clean now...

The other factor is affordability. My view was that if I didn't play my w/c last week, I wouldn't be able to get the team I wanted due to the spiky price hikes we are getting this season.

Seem's like more teams are just going straight at Utd this Season. Last season the mid-lower teams tried to out play them in tactics. I think Utd's defence is solid, but definitely needs more work & communication out there. That's why Ferd & Vida were so good together, communication & teamwork.

Hope Mata comes good after bottling it and choosing Aguero over Balotelli.

Must learn more patience too... Nasri was in my side two weeks ago.

Some people (thank God not me) still have Nzog, Sess and stuff. They can teach you some patience.

Mata (c), Ramires and Bosingwa for me. No Utd coverage either, feels like a lucky escape today...

I reckon Nasri and Silva will end the season with the same point. Silva is more consistent, nasri more streaky. Probably only worth having one though

I MIGHT be wrong, but I think my hometown club Bury scored a screamer today in League One. I only saw it on an iPhone and it looked like the Bury kit, and an unfamiliar ground as Bury were playing away. If any of you are watching the Football league show, keep an eye out for it!
