Sergio Aguero’s Fantasy owners were left sweating this afternoon after a groin injury forced the Argentine out of the Ewood Park thrashing of Blackburn Rovers.
City’s number one forward has, of course, been in sensational form in his debut season, with eight goals seeing him backed by 43.6% of Fantasy managers so far.
Speaking after the 4-0 victory, City coach David Platt had this to say:
“It’s too early at the moment. It’s a groin injury and the early indications are that it is not as bad as we first thought.
“Having said that, if we had a game in the week or next week, he wouldn’t play. With the international break, who knows? It depends how quickly he heals up. It’s probably touch and go for Aston Villa, but we will look at it in the next 48 hours.
“I would think at least two weeks, but I’m no medic.”
With Aguero currently sitting at 11.5 in Fantasy Premier League (FPL), his owners will be desperate for a quick prognosis from the club. Positive news would surely prevent a drop in price, as many Fantasy managers get twitchy with transfers and possibly wildcards over the extended break.
Aguero’s absence, however, would certainly pave the way for Edin Dzeko and Mario Balotelli to pair up against Villa in the Etihad Stadium showdown- priced at 8.6 and 8.5 respectively, the duo would fancy their chances of ending Villa’s unbeaten start to the season- Roberto Mancini’s side have averaged over three goals per game so far and would expect to see off Villa in a similar vein.
With a trip to Old Trafford following on in gameweek nine, Mancini will surely take no chances with his star forward’s fitness, though, particularly with the Carlos Tevez saga reducing his up front options – confirmation one way or the other will be key to plenty Fantasy plans, then…
