Our first members article of the international break arrives this afternoon. Assessing the players by classification across the last four Gameweeks, we look at the impact made by Southampton and City’s new centre-halves, Newcastle’s raiding right-back and Palace’s big Norwegian as Alan Pardew’s defence starts to tighten up.

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

With Oscar and Willian on international duty I think Pedro might get the start at Villa.
Making a possible hit to sell him less atractive.

      What do you think?

I'd still say Kos and Mert are the first choice. We'd obviously love Gabriel to work his way in but I don't think we can bank on that just yet. Bellerin still the choice back there, I'd say.

what's going on with Mahrez? how does a guy with 5 goals, 3 assists, and 18 created chances in 7 PL appearances just get dropped all of a sudden? personal bust-up?

Ranieri mentioned he tweaked his flanks to counter Norwich's pace - hence the start for Simpson on the right. He may well tailor his XI for the opponent away from home - clearly something we've got to watch for.

        Thanks for the elaboration, Mark!

At his price point it almost seems worth keeping him and being ready with your bench than it is to shift him out, huh..

Ranieri sound tactically nuts. You dont simply bench a player like Mahrez given his form.

They did win the game, however. It's a worry for sure. I was surprised he didn't play Mahrez in the number ten role.

Yup was a surprise given that there was no genuine reason to bench him. The reason he provides sounds absolutely rubbish.

I'm bewildered why Okazaki always start when his form isn't as great as Mahrez. Mahrez could have started in his position instead!

Depends whether it's a longer term transfer rather than just a couple of games. Chelsea will come good at some point and the next game surely Villa are sitting ducks?

          Yes indeed. Missed that.

So Mane plays, Monday. Should return for Thursday at latest but then Southampton play Saturday.

He's a risk but I'd say Southampton would want to maintain momentum.

my logic was playing the evening of the 13th. He then has 48 hrs to return which is effectively the evening of the 15th.

Unlikely to be any training on the 16th so it could be that Koeman prepares for the game without him with using Pelle, Jrod and Long who will be back on the 15th as they are playing in Europe (means they have 24 hours to return home as opposed to Mane having 48hrs).

Seems to have form for resting him following internationals as well.

Reid to Berty if you have the funds but it looks reasonably good. You could do Diouf and Gomis to Pelle and Ighalo. Not that keen on those 2 as long term prospects.

I'd be worried about Diouf given the death of his mother. Not sure we'll see him for a while, even after the break.

      http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/sportsnews/article-3262163/Stoke-City-striker-Mame-Biram-Diouf-learns-mother-died-Mecca-disaster.html

With Gomis at home to Stoke, I'd leave him alone and look at Diouf out. Not sure how you touch that midfield though. I'd even consider Darmian downgrade given United's short-term fixtures.

I think he will revert to a flat back four tbh. Can Milner in the middle Coutinho behind one striker. And Firmino and perhaps Lallana supporting DS

Can see Milner Benteke potentially being at risk in the longer term

But Coutinho isn't one of them.

Lots of talk that Klopp can get more from players, though. We've also seen that any new manager, regardless of what they've got to play with, offers the potential for a short-term boost in form.

Depends on your current midfield setup and front three. I'd say Mane is more explosive but is that little less secure.

      Pelle..

ccoz you can have other good midfielders: say a midfield of KdB, Sanchez, Payet, Mahrez isn't bad

Whereas not so many options among strikers - Aguero, Pelle, Vardy, Trollukaku are all I can mainly think of

    Myhill - McCarthy

    Sagna* - Darmian - Williams - Muniesa* - Targett*

    Mane - Sanchez - KdB - Mahrez - Westwood

    Aguero - Ighalo - Martial

    2.2 itb, 0 FTs

Now obviously I have problems at the back, used my FT this week to get Mane for Pedro and am going to take a hit on getting rid of one of Sagna/Muniesa.

Who goes first? Sagna SV is 5.2, Muniesa at 4.4

Looking at Bellerin or Bertrand. Long term, I'd like to have both.

Sagna might be lucky to get a 1pt cameo if Zaba starts.

Perhaps Muniesa first, then followed by Sagna?

      Targett can remain.

I guess you know for sure that Munisea is a no-show, whereas it's perhaps a bit early to write-off Sagna from being at least a rotation option. I'd go with the former first then. Agree, Bellerin looks the way to go.

      1. AK ⭐
        • 13 Years

That's what I was thinking too. Zaba was also at fault in the goal that City conceded. Maybe Sagna still has a chance?

The downside of this move is that then I'd have a bit too much invested in the defence, with 4 defenders worth more than 5. That's the only thing that puts me off a bit.

Which one you fancy in the next 2, Mark? Surely Bellerin over Bertrand?

That's a horrible one. I still think Martial is a risk - every striker has a downturn and dry spell and this guy is 19 so it's inevitable he'll suffer one and, when he does, LvG may take him out for a few games. Mata on the other hand, proven talent and in the mood.

Then again, I've probably got a blind spot with Martial.

Diouf is on bereavement so he might not be playing. Vardy or Pelle are good options.

I previously ignored the people saying 'Hazard isn't worth his price tag' but I have so say I firmly believe that he isn't right now.

His goal was a dodgy deflection that was arguably off target and both assists were when he was fouled for free kicks (if I'm not mistaken).

I know points are points and they all count, but he won't be so lucky every game and it doesn't seem like he has showed signs of returning to good, consistent goal scoring form.

I can understand it might be tough after watching Aguero and Sánchez banging the goals in having previously failed to, but Hazard and Chelsea just don't look like themselves. I can't see it personally, but wish you all the best whatever you decide!
