Kevin de Bruyne grabs a late winner as City come from behind to see of Sevilla. Anthony Martial’s header earns United a point in Moscow, whilst the injuries start to ease for both Liverpool and Palace ahead of the weekend.

De Bruyne Wins it for City

Manchester City ran out 2-1 victors over Sevilla courtesy of an own goal and a 91st-minute strike from Kevin De Bruyne, who received a pass just outside the area from Yaya Toure. Aleksandar Kolarov returned to the bench and was subbed on for Pablo Zabaleta at the hour mark, prompting Bacary Sagna to return to his favoured right-back berth. Vincent Kompany entered the fray in the dying embers for a two-minute cameo.

The Scout Says: With five strikes in his previous seven outings for the Sky Blues, De Bruyne is well on course to surpass the 16 goals he accrued in his final campaign at Wolfsburg. Priced at 10.5, the Belgian midfielder sits at a relatively modest 18% ownership, despite chalking up three goals and as many assists in his previous four starts, though that figure looks set to balloon as Man City gear up for an excellent pair of match-ups (NOR, avl) after they’ve negotiated the Manchester derby. By all accounts, Zabaleta was run ragged by Sevilla’s star man, Yevhen Konoplyanka, and looked short of fitness. There’s a real possibility, then, that Sagna is favoured over the Argentine at Old Trafford – assuming Kolarov is afforded a starting role.

Martial Earns United a Point

Anthony Martial headed his fifth goal for the Red Devils to secure a 1-1 draw against CSKA Moscow, having conceded the penalty (handball) that lead to the hosts’ opener. Louis van Gaal opted to bench Matteo Darmian and Juan Mata, handing starts to Antonio Valencia and Jesse Lingard down the right flank. Wayne Rooney continued at the lone-striker berth, with Martial fielded on the left flank and Ander Herrera playing at the number ten.

After slamming the youngster’s “stupid reaction” for their hosts’ goal, Van Gaal was quick to ring his praises after the final whistle:

“Yes of course! [he is forgiven] He was playing again with a lot of threat to the opponent and he always plays at a certain level, he’s very consistent. For a 19-year-old boy I like that.”

The Scout Says: Although Martial’s recent switch to the wing has raised questions marks over his capacity to deliver returns from a deep-lying role, the France international’s superb header will afford his 29% ownership a degree of confidence ahead of the Sky Blues’ visit. In saying that, Rooney lack of impact as the spearhead of Man United’s attack may boost Martial’s chances of returning to the lone striker role. The obvious solution is to drop him back into the number-ten berth and allow Martial to lead the line, yet Van Gaal insisted after the CSKA Moscow clash that he wasn’t tempted to make that change during the match. At the back, Darmian’s near-20% ownership will be hoping he can oust Valencia from the right-back berth once again, though the latter’s assist for Martial’s header certainly helps his chances of retaining a starting berth ahead of the Italian.

Mixed News for Palace

Crystal Palace’s assistant manager, Keith Millen, revealed that Connor Wickham is once again expected to remain on the sidelines this weekend as he builds up his fitness:

“Connor is over the injury – I believe the actual calf is healed but we’ve been told we need to really build his training up. We need to get some proper work into him really. He hasn’t returned to full training yet (and is unlikely to play at Leicester). We have Fraizer Campbell and Patrick Bamford fit, so there are two options there and we’re not too bad off.”

Elsewhere in the Eagles camp, Joel Ward trained on Tuesday and could be passed fit for the Foxes clash:

“Wardy did some training with us on Tuesday and is full training on Thursday. I think, medically, he would be OK (to play on Saturday), it’s whether we feel he’s done enough training work really. The main thing is we want to get as many people fit, because we have three games in a week coming up.”

The Scout Says: Beyond Yohan Cabaye (four goals – including three penalties – and one assist), Crystal Palace’s attack has proved hard to penetrate from a Fantasy perspective, with Jason Puncheon delivering just two assists from “the hole” and Yannick Bolasie notching a solitary strike. Bakary Sako looked like a great prospect earlier in the campaign – bagging two goals and one assist across his first two starts – but he’s since dropped behind a resurgent Wilfried Zaha in the pecking order. Although Wickham is unlikely to attract much investment upon his return – given that he tallied just five goals in 36 outings for Sunderland last term – Palace’s wing contingent could certainly profit from his hold-up play. As for Ward, he still ranks top among the London club’s defenders for shots on target (three), having carded two goals in his only four starts of the campaign. At just 4.5, the right-back serves as the prime route into an Eagles rearguard that’s claimed two clean sheets in three matches but faces a tough upcoming trio of fixtures (lei, MUN, liv).

Liverpool Treatment Room Emptying

Ahead of Liverpool’s Europa League tie against Rubin Kazan on Thursday, Jurgen Klopp said that Christian Benteke, Roberto Firmino and Dejan Lovren are all on the comeback trail, having returned to training in midweek. However, the German head coach conceded that none of the trio are fit enough to be named in the starting XI:

“We have three players back in training – Benteke, Firmino and Lovren. That’s good, more options, not really starting options but for the squad. Yesterday they joined team training and it was OK. Now we will see what we need for this game, who we’ll take with us and who will stay here for more training. But, of course, it’s very good for us that these players are back.”

Meanwhile, Daniel Sturridge came through a training session unscathed, so Klopp is hoping the injury-prone marksman will be in contention for a start against Southampton on Sunday:

“Sturridge is getting better and better. Yesterday he was outside for the first time since Saturday. It was OK and the target for him is Sunday, for sure. That’s what we’ll try to do. There were no difficulties or complications. He’s a young player, a big talent and it would be cool for him if he was now with us, but he can’t.”

The Scout Says: If both Benteke and Sturridge overcome their niggles, it will be fascinating to observe how Klopp sets out his team – essentially, this weekend will be the first time that both strikers will be fit for the same league match since Benteke joined from Villa. In terms of tactics, the new Reds boss went against expectation in his first match in charge and rolled out a 4-3-2-1 instead of the 4-2-3-1 he preferred at Dortmund, with Philippe Coutinho and Adam Lallana tucked in behind Divock Origi. As the injuries start to ease, though, we might start to get a better indication of his intentions, with the likes of Firmino looking to finally establish himself after struggling to make an impact under Brendan Rodgers. Ultimately, the uncertainty surrounding the Reds’ attack – coupled with their challenging schedule (SOU, che, CRY, mci, SWA) – is likely to encourage Fantasy managers to adopt a wait-and-see policy for the time being.

Aguero priority. You might lose him and save other transfer.
Dont lose Mahrez and Ayew has Aston Villa so give him that match. Somehow get KDB before Norwich but he can wait this week. Would rather have Sanchez than Ozil.

Is it still a good time to ship in Vardy ?

Having missed to ride the bandwagon in favour of avoiding a Leiecester double-up, I've been punished really heavily, both in terms of points and price rises. But I'm still at 80K and top of my MLs.

So will it be a smart choice to ship in Vardy keeping me egos aside ?

It’s a hard move to make when you have missed the boat on the initial points making such a defensive move having more of your funds tied up than the people who already have him.

Having said that I would say its probably best to bring him in. He’s showing no signs of slowing down so he’s just gonna continue to hurt you, especially now more and more people will start to back him with the armband.

You could try to be creative and look for other areas where you can make up the ground like switching to a 3-5-2 though I would say there is a greater probability of you getting that wrong than right.

What a mean is Vardy is an easy choice right now, he has the stats playing in an attacking team and were not exactly flush with choices up front right now.

If the big hitters like Kane and Rooney start chipping in then maybe you could get away with it but until that happens he’s just gonna continue to hurt you and your rank I recon.

Fantasy Football Scout Daily Hot Topic

Looking ahead is 3-5-2 now the preferred option. With Aguero out that frees up considerable cash with far more midfielders making a case for inclusion as regular good scorers than strikers.

Are we still clinging to 3-4-3 out of habit?

Just three strikers (Pelle, Vardy and Lukaku) have breached the 50 pt mark. Of those only Vardy has more than 60 pts

Meanwhile in midfield there are six who are in the 50 pts plus club and three of those have more than 60 pts.

Looking at FPL's player form only one striker (Vardy) has hit double figures in terms of average score in recent games.

Meanwhile in midfield there are four (Sanchez, Wijnaldum, Cabaye and Ozil).

And if we are seeing 3-5-2 as the norm who are your ideal Power Five?

Have the same midfielders. Only thinking to change Mahrez to Ozil if Mahrez doesn't perform this week.

Would still have enough funds to get Aguero back when healthy and I think Aguero, Vardy up front would do enough damage as my two strikers.

Similarly on a 3-5-2 and I think that's what's got me so high up with quite a few midfield options performing.

I'ts quite surprising since I missed Sanchez' two big hauls and Mahrez out entirely.

          Wallcott, Sanchez, KDB, Mane, Payet

Mata will be coming in soon but for whom is always a tricky notion.

      • 12 Years

There are too many good strikers for me to consider a midfield five. Vardy, Bony, Pelle, Martial, Lukaku are just 5 forwards off the top of my head.

However to entertain the midfield 5 idea: Sanchez, Walcott, KdB, Sterling, Mane would be my ideal 5.

I've been very tempted for a few weeks, not having Payet is costing me. However, I have always had other priorities, and now I'm suddenly finding myself wanting strikers again. I have Vardy, Pelle and Martial, and want Lukaku. I'm not sure I want to go without 2 of those.

5 is a little in question with Mata rotation issue via LVG filosifeee

      Power 5 has to be

      Sanchez Hazard KDB Payet Mahrez

      end of.

Those who ignore Hazard now will pay later... and I don't own him... but I'm sorting it out soon (whereas I don't own Sanchez and don't care, so there)

Mr HOH... I've hoping to catch you...

I'm very keen to recruit you to reignite your career with Team UAE. I've already got two sub 5k players from last year onboard, and a third (even higher ranked last year) committed to join if I get you signed up plus a an other.

Care to come out of retirement for the UAE to lift the World Cup??

I can share details of players if you email me at johnlambert@live.co,uk

Hi John, if you're still looking for players for Team UAE, I'd be interested. This is my third season playing FFL. In my first year I took a respectable rank of 70K. Last year I finished 705 in the world, winning all my mini-leagues and finishing 5th overall in the UAE. This year I had a tough start like many good player but it's been green arrows all the way since GW3 and I'm currently 135K in the world with the wind on my back. I'm based in Dubai but originally from Glasgow. Cheers, James.

If you need anyone I will be happy to join but no worries if you have the numbers.

My history isn't brilliant as you can see but taking it more seriously this year using a unusual strategy that I give gives me a massive edge in the game.

Strange that you consider Mata a rotation issue but not Hazard. LVG said he was resting Mata, while Mourinho said Hazard was basically lazy.

Jonty, any source LVG saying he was resting Mata? Was thinking why bring him to Russia if you were planning to rest him.

LVG said he wanted to rest him...I guess he also wanted to have him there in case the game went array. There was nothing in his comments that suggested he was unhappy with Mata other than he is knackered.

Thanks for the heads up. I have him in my team and I'm expecting big things from him in next weeks. He is after all Man U most creative player. I guess he really needed a little rest.

After this week I'll know everything I need to know about his status.

              Thanks, cheers.

          Jonty.

Mata is a rotation issue because LVG randomly says he needs rest without prior indication.

Hazard is explosion imminent because Mourinho has psychologically lambasted him for being lazy and having a low work rate defensively. From AV-B's stickied but not hot topic'd review of Chelsea's Champions League match, Hazard has indeed responded as one would expect.

Mourinho has called out Hazard because he wants more from him, and when he gets what he wants, Hazard will start every match and we will start to see the expected FPL returns.

Mata, on the other hand, despite being productive, will get rested by LVG at random times because LVG is concerned about Mata's minutes... which sounds like LVG's been talking to Rafa Benitez on the phone too much.

That'll be the same Champions League match that ended 0-0 then. 😉

Doesn't fill me with too much confidence that Hazard has turned a corner.

              Fair enough.

Think everyone will want Hazard in their team for weeks 13 and 15, Norwich and Bournemouth at the Bridge.

              Time will tell.

I couldn't disagree more. Hazard, and Chelsea, have been dire. While that won't continue all season, there are so many good options currently that bringing in a player based on reputation seems ridiculous to me. Throw in the noises that he isn't happy, that he wants to leave, that he was dropped last week - I don't see why you'd want him at the moment.

I think Mane is a much better option as it stands.

        1. Doolittle
          • 13 Years

Also, this idea that "those who ignore Hazard now will pay later" is based on a complete fallacy - that the choice is either have him now or don't have him all season. He may be a great option again at some point, but that doesn't mean you have to have him through a dreadful patch.

I said in pre-season that Hazard wouldn't replicate last season's form, and this was the line of thought of many then - that you had to have him at all times. It's nonsense.

don't think that Haz is a must have, he was dropped last week due to poor form and Chelsea won. His team are not playing well, his manager has lost the dressing room and now he is unsettled and want to go to Real

I brought in Mata but then switched him out for KDB week just gone for this reason, just don't trust LVG. He's done it before to Mata dropping him when it appears to defy logic, he's always seems to be a make way option!

I have same midfield but looking at Ozil instead of Hazard. No denying Hazard is world class but he's not doing it right now and he's the kind of player that once you have its hard to switch him out.

So I would rather wait out on him then bring him in quicktime when he finally does have a upturn even for a 4 point hit if need be.

It's a risk as him and Chelsea could explode in any game and i'll run the risk of missing out on that but the flipside is people who have him now are missing out on alternates the likes of Ozil/Payet who are pointing nicely.

This is what I was implying. 3-5-2 with Aguero, Sanchez and KdB is not feasible even with Vardy and Ighalo as strikers, so 3-5-2 is a good short term option at best, and as Balders said there are good striker options too.

Well to be quite honest now that i have already sold aguero for Lukaku, its too late to go 3-5-2 for me unless i take a few more hits which i am not willing to do at the moment just to ship the formation. I do believe that forwards will come good and having those three forwards is a priority for me.

Also, less benching headaches. (I know i will cause myself one when i bring in 5th mid next week just for my fodder player)

Mahrez, De Bruyne, Sanchez, Walcott, Mane with Vardy, Pelle, Lukaku - benching headaches yes, but with a couple of rotation risks in there and the ability to play AOA soon (maybe gw 12) while the aguero funds are boosting the whole team I feel like it's a strong position to be in

this is my point exactly, with the luxury of cheap forwards doing so well why not have a power front 8? you never know when your'e gonna need your bench and you might end up benching more points than with a front 7 but most of the time it will work in your favour

It's tempting but who do I sacrifice from Vardy, Pelle Lukaku? It's too easy to have 8 (theoretically) good attackers at the moment. I think I'll stick with 3-4-3 and just look enviously at those with an extra playable midfielder...

I really cant deciede. I keep looking at variations but I suppose it comes down to how much you rate Lukaku over a midfield option once Aguero is back. It's a tricky one but I think I'm sticking with 3-4-3.

to be honest i could play AOA every week now with my current front 8, so i'll be rotating between 3-5-2 and 3-4-3 based on form/fixtures

      Mahrez, sanchez, wijnaldum, KDB, payet
      Costa, lukaku, pelle

I think you can stick with 3-4-3 but you need to chase form rather than having 3 bankers week in week out.
So as you may have been happy with Gomis-Aguero-Ighalo now maybe it's Vardy-Pelle-Ayoze(?) and next month Lukaku-Benteke-Martial

Having said that depending on fixtures and because money isn't being tied up I'm alternating between 3-5-2 and 3-4-3. Rotating Ayew; Ighalo; Ayoze; Mane as required.

Tbh I don't think there enough high priced options firing to need to go to a 3-5-2. My midfield and forwards are:

      Sanchez Mahrez Payet KDB (Westwood)
      Vardy Martial Pelle

I can't really think what other mids I would really want, not enough goals in UTD to invest in multiple attackers, possibly YYT come week 14 but Kun shouldn't be too far away then, chelsea isn't showing much promise yet. Strikers apart from the mids I have just seem more likely to pull in points in the coming weeks

      Wijnaldum(Brilliant fixtures ahead),Sanchez(Season Keeper),Payet(Form),Sterling(Position),Mahrez(5th mid. I got him for 5.6 mil.)

I think Sterling will score more than KDB now that he's playing central role and KDB playing wide.

surely with aguero out, bony fits perfectly into a 3-4-3 along with vardy and pellè..

i also agree with many above that hazard does not warrant a spot in a so called 'power 5'. if you were to have a 'power 5' midfield, i would personally take those on form, being:

      kdb | sánchez | payet | mahrez | özil

Yes its the way forward I think.

Its just a case of dealing with Gomis or Westwood first for me, probably Gomis after Mondays horror show he may not even start. I'm hoping to have both done by next game week and throw in the AOA chip, likely with Mane and Lukaku but still pondering and keeping an eye on a dodgy defence.

Totally on the 3-5-2 / 4-4-2 train. I have Sanchez, Mata, Payet, Mane and Mahrez. I'm thinking Mata to KDB / Silva, but otherwise very happy.

With Aguero cash, it's very possible to have a Power Front 8 and the associated benching headaches each week.

The issue I find with 3-5-2 is that your cheap 3rd striker is much more likely to get points than your 5th mid. Nothing frustrates me more than having points on your bench. Therefore I like to stick with 3-4-3....but that is just my opinion.

i have won my m/l last 3 years, and am currently top, always done 3 4 3, so makes tryin 3 5 2 even harder to do, as you say, more mid options than strikers,so may give it a go for at least couple weeks, good luck !

A very good hulk, Jonty, and well worth a debate with all the surplus cash floating around.

Let me state that 3-5-2 has never ever paid off for me. The third forward has always been benched and cost me. As soon as I shifted back to 3-4-3, the points returned.

I have been going along nicely with 3-4-3 and I'm wondering, "why should I change?"

There are some points that you make that are very valid and worth serious consideration, however.

It has not escaped me that more midfielders are accruing more FPL points that forwards. That in itself, should be a factor. I have been very impressed by both Mata and Ozil. Mata has 22% ownership and Ozil, 9%.

Mata makes a lot of timely appeal with the fixtures so significantly about to improve. His gametime is a serious concern though. Hardly ever finishes a game.

Apart from Mata, there are very few players at Man Utd that make any appeal. To get him in, I am very reluctant to drop one of Payet, KGB, Mahrez or Sanchez.

The issue I then have, who out of Vardy, Pele or Lukaku do I drop? I have lined these players up because of form and fixtures.

The only thing in it's favour though is that the likes of Mahrez or Mata can get rested and I have been using the first sub quite a bit of late.

The satisfaction of having such a powerful "front 8" is deeply reassuring.

      I may well-albeit reluctantly-move to 3-5-2.

    Following on from this:
While Leicester are still searching for their first shut-out, they are ranked top for clean sheets on our Season Ticker. West Brom, Watford and Swansea all feature in the bottom six teams for shots in the box in the last four Gameweeks, while Palace have only scored four goals in as many matches, with three coming from the penalty spot. Budget options Kasper Schmeichel (4.5) and Robert Huth (4.4) are perhaps worth a roll of the dice, then.

    Would you?
    A - Huth > Bellerin
    B - Richards > Bellerin

It looks like Huth will fall to 4.3 soon.
    Thanks

So little talk about Yaya. Is it because he didn't score hat trick against Bournemouth or because of his next fixture?

Looking to bring him for Deadwood next week.

Yaya is a great option, but i will be opting for Sterling / Silva if fit.

I would get Silva for Deadwood instead of Yaya but can't afford him without doing hit.

Not sure about Sterling. If it looks like that Pelle playing 4-4-2 against Norwich and Villa I will opt Sterling insted.

I think it's probably because of De Bruyne, and Sterling's hat trick of course. Toure is a solid option, but he won't outscore De Bruyne. You could double up of course.

I'm not expecting him to outscore Kdb (which I own) but I want to double City mids.

Ahh then I think that is a sound option. The only issue there would be the plethora of great midfielders at the moment.

but out of other options like Özil,Eriksen,Walcott, Windalum (?) 😀 I'm expecting Sterling or Yaya to outscore them in next 3.

What's your current midfield? Sanchez, Mahrez, Mane, Payet - not sure I'd favour Toure over 2 of those.

Without Kun, Yaya is on penalties, and as a member, go also take a look at their stats. I'd say Yaya is likely to outscore KDB in the time before Kun's return.

On the comparison tool, the last 2 matches is 90% in KDB's favour.

Yaya has played only 45 minutes over those 2 matches. Look at last 4, and he's already ahead.

But is the gametime not a valid issue? Last 4 has KDB 63%, 7 key stats to Toure's 2.

Also, just from watching City, I know I'd rather have KDB than Toure.

Not saying Toure won't score well, just that I prefer KDB. If money was an issue it may be different.

It is really not. Yay missed 1 match for injury, another was subbed out for not to renew the injury. He's very much nailed on.

The comparison tool is giving you the wrong stats then, my table (not public and not giving the numbers as it's members stats) puts Yaya ahead in the key stats for scoring goals, and almost at par in assist potential, despite KDB having played twice as much over last 4 GW's. KDB is only ahead in touch, but even there, Yaya's touches in the penalty area are relatively to his minutes way higher than KDB's.

Fair enough, he's a good option as I said, but there's no way I'm ditching KDB for him. Just from watching City I think KDB will outscore him, stats don't always tell the whole story.

Of course you won't, but if you were choosing between the two without having either, I'd recommend you to go for Yaya.

Because he was subbed when win was in the bag. He's still central for City, kind of their plan b: if they won't score in their normal way, then they play the ball to Yaya and let him win the match all alone.

Maybe. But at least he won't get injured all the time like Silva, and is a sure value unlike Sterling. KdB is definitely the other option.

If you mean just transferring Silva in and out of your team, it doesn't count as knee jerking, as it is because of his injuries.

                  This is the story.

I planned to save a FT and Silva got injured on Friday i believe. So instead of just benching him and playing Westwood i shipped to Hazard who brought me 3 points.

I rage sold Hazard back to Silva cuz he was supposed to be fit. Got injured in teh warmup (Hazard brought 10 points that week)
Had to take a hit to sell silva in GW7 for him to appear the following week and score 8.

So yea, lost a lot 🙂
