634x258 Suspensions

Five players toppled off the Suspension Tightrope this Gameweek, as James Milner, Jeffrey Schlupp, Erik Pieters, Fernandinho and Jack Colback totted up their fifth cautions of the campaign and incurred a one-match ban.

Fortunately for the former quartet, they will serve out their suspensions in Capital One Cup clashes in midweek. Colback, on the other hand, misses Newcastle’s home tie against Stoke next Gameweek as the Magpies were knocked out in the previous round of the competition by Sheffield Wednesday. The midfielder was already a doubt for the Potters clash anyway, after he was forced off early in the second period due to a challenge from Lee Cattermole – early reports indicate he left the stadium on crutches.

In terms of other new suspensions, Fabricio Coloccini received a straight red for a foul on Steven Fletcher that led to the Black Cats’ penalty opener. Like Colback, he’ll be unavailable for selection when the Magpies welcome Stoke to St James’ Park, though reports this evening suggest that the Tyneside team are set to appeal the decision.

Post match, Magpies manager Steve McClaren clearly felt that whistler Bobby Madley made a match-changing error:

“It’s simple: he’s wrong in my opinion. Referees are part and parcel of the game and you control your performance – you can’t control the opponent or the referee and they can affect the result, and they have done today, not so much the opponent, but definitely the referee.”

McClaren’s opposite number, Sam Allardyce, also reckoned the dismissal was a little harsh on the Argentine:

“We’ve taken full of advantage of a piece of good fortune. I did think it’s a foul, personally. I’ve had a look at it. If he hadn’t made contact with him, I think Steven Fletcher would have scored. It was on his left foot, on his best side. It [the red card] is a bit harsh, but those are the rules and we’ve taken full advantage of that today. We had a harsh decision go against us last week, this week it went for us. I thought it was a penalty. The fortunate thing is the sending off”.

Chelsea’s Nemanja Matic and Everton veteran Gareth Barry were both given their marching orders for two bookable offences but also fulfil their obligations in midweek cup matches. Toffees boss Roberto Martinez is unconcerned over Barry’s midweek absence for a home clash with Norwich, claiming “he was going to be rested anyway”.

Sadio Mane was sent off in a farcical turn of events at Anfield, entering the referee’s notebook twice in stoppage time after bagging an equaliser in the 85th minute. Much to the relief of his 9% ownership, the Senegal international serves his time when Saints play host to Aston Villa in the League Cup, returning for a tasty home fixture against the Cherries.

Elsewhere on the Tightrope, Jonjo Shelvey edged one step closer to a brief spell on the sidelines, earning his fourth yellow of the season. Ciaran Clark, Eliaquim MangalaMatteo Darmian, Oriol Romeu, Billy Jones, Dele AlliMark Noble, Erik Lamela and Claudio Yacob make up the numbers in a ten-strong band of miscreants.

Dwight Gayle completed his one-match ban and returns to Crystal Palace’s squad for their home encounter against Manchester United next Gameweek. With Connor Wickham still uncertain to recover in time from a calf complaint, the 5.1-priced marksman is likely to lead the line ahead of Fraizer Campbell and Patrick Bamford.

As always, mainly thanks to our resident Tightrope expert Anorak, who has been keeping us up-to-date via his twitter stream.

Got Lukaku in a couple of weeks ago. And he was anonymous in the arsenal game. I never liked having Everton players as they never perform when I expect them to. Should I stick with him or is Kane a better option? Pelle and Vardy are my other forwards. Got my first red in a while and am angry at my team.

With the upcoming fixtures you have to stick surely. Sunderland may have kept a CS yesterday but they conceeded a lot of chances. Kane has a great fixture this week then a dodgy run.

    Morning DZ.
    Have a little quandary......

    Myhill, (Butland)
    Kolarov, Azpil, Janmaat, (Souare, Gomez)
    Sanchez, Wijnaldum, KDB, Payet, Mahrez
    Pelle, Vardy, (Gomis)

    My question is this,
A, do I take Gomis out for Kane/Lukaku, play whoever I put in and drop Mahrez to the bench.
B, make the transfer and play my AOA chip, leaving Azpil on bench.
C, leave Gomis on my bench, play Mahrez and use my transfer to sort defence out.

    Any helpful advice welcome.

    Hello distinguished scouters!

    2 quick questions:
    1. Getting rid of Darmian, which is the best possible option, Smalling? Already have Kompany, Bellerín, Dier and Martin.
    2. Best goalie to rotate with Myhill?

    Muchas gracias amigos!

Desperate to get Smalling in, looks the business this season. And learn from my mistake, don't worry about rotating Myhill, get a playing 4.0 keeper (Elliot, Hennessey) just in case but play Myhill every week.

Hazard replacement seekers, I'm leaning towards Sterling than KDB because of,

    -bigger goal threat
    -plays 2nd striker
    -more touches in the box
    -more shots inside the box
-most importantly, is finding some form recently.

    1. KISSES
      • 12 Years

Its what he does with all those stats that is entirely underwhelming. KDB's class is there to see.

      1. Rolls-Royce
        • 12 Years
        10 years, 3 months ago

Indeed KDB is class, but he looks more likely to get assists than goals, I mean Sterling is explosive. Maybe KDB will score more points Ovall but in absence of Silva and Kun, Sterling looks tempting.

    2. athleticbilbobaggins
      • 13 Years

But, imagine you are watching a City game. And Sterling gets a chance. You are up on your feet, arms raised, ready to celebrate a goal. And we all know, he inevitably will miss it. Imagine the despair. Atleast, de Bruyne doesn't miss many chances.

How does Dawson to Bertrand/VVD sound?

I have had a good run with Dawson picking up his goal and plenty of CS. Now the fixtures turn so looking to change direction. I'll be keeping Myhill in goal as cover for WBA.

Less of the amazing, and more of the luck mate.

Buying and benching Aguero from day 1, when unavailable?

Still having Aguero and Wilson in his side today?

Don't want to sound bitter, but this is not someone making astute decisions. Fair play to them though.

Morning DZers! Hope you all had a better week than me. Still, really liking the look of next week's line-up anyway.

If gonna seek some second opinions, if I may...

I'm keen to lose Azpilicueta, although if his value is going to stick for another week I may ditch Richards instead, as the Aguero money means I could temporarily invest in the defence (sick of look at 5M+ ITB), and lose Azpi later.

So... Kolarov (back after my foolish sale this week) or van Dijk

Kolarov: Rotation risk, but in a much stronger defence
van Dijk: Despite the strength of feeling here about the Saints defence on here, I've looked and they've only kept clean sheets against poor sides so far.

    Thoughts?

Yeah, I was looking at that too. They have a nasty habit of conceding 5/6 but still nicking 1 for themselves.

Really fancy Kolarov bac, but know it'll bite me in the backside sooner or later

Hey Jossy. I sold him too mate, feel your pain.

Ultimately we sold him due to the looming rotation risk which is even more obvious now with Clichy waiting in the wings.

Im looking at VVD, his goal scoring record and Saints resolute defence is good enough for me.

      1. Jøssy ⭐
        • 11 Years

You are right. There was more to my decision to sell Kolarov than his short term injury (although I wouldn't have taken that leap were he not out).

Kind of think I want him for Norwich, and while Bournmouth keep getting spanked, as commented above they seem to nick a goal at the same time.

This is going to be one of those agonising 50/50 transfers/

Umm... If "his play style is not direct and not good for FPL", why did you jump on to the Payet bandwagon in the first place?

I bought him at GW2, when we still didnt know how he played in EPL

Hmm.. So you bought him when he was unproven and want to sell him when he's scoring points every match? If ever there is an anti-FPL, you'll win it hands down!

Well I do have Mane, KdB (City mid), Sanchez (rather than Ozil, although admittedly I'd like both), and Mahrez.

I think our problem is there are to many options in midfield now. And we can't have them all. Payet just seeems to consistent for me to drop at the moment, but I understand that the likes of Ozil are potentially higher scoring.

South coast derby should be exciting but unsure if Southampton's attack has the highest calibre like Spurs to score very big! Silva is guaranteed promising returns but unsure if he will be on time for Norwich's match this Sat. 🙁

    Myhill

    De Bruyne Sanchez Mahrez Payet

Maybe the post got lost with this insane "Payet is not good enough for FPL" but I need some help here:
    1. Getting rid of Darmian, which is the best possible option, Smalling? Already have Kompany, Bellerín, Dier and Martin.

      1) VVD. That guys a beast at set pieces and Soton will get you cleansheets.
      2) While im never a fan of rotating keepers, I have to say its got to be Howard if you have the cash or Steklenberg if you dont buy VVD.
