Barring the unthinkable, Kevin Davies will be sitting on 54 points in the Fantasy Premier League this evening. His brace of goals and the smart assist for Martin Petrov’s late fourth in the win over Spurs will surely earn him the maximum Bonus Points. That would move the Bolton striker onto 14 Bonus Points overall – more than any other Forward in the game.

The underdogs and the unfashionable were always in with a chance of shining this weekend. With some of the FPL’s top individuals – Rafael Van der Vaart, Nani and Florent Malouda all possibly missing out, the opportunity was always there for the unsung heroes to step forward and save the Gameweek. Ji-Sung Park stepped out of Nani’s shadow and duly obliged over at Old Trafford, but in Fantasy terms, they don’t come more unsung than Kevin Davies.

As usual the Bolton striker was heavily involved throughout today’s game. His Bonus Point popularity may well be a mystery to some, but for those familiar with his influence and contribution to the cause, it’s no surprise. Our Members need only cast an eye over the Opta stat tables, paying particular attention to “Touches”, “Passes Made”, “Key Passes” and “Successful Passes in the Oppositions Half”, to get a view on how Davies compares to the rest of the league. He is without doubt one of the most influential strikers around. In the FPL, that will always make up for his lack of goals – particularly in a Bolton side bereft of stars.

Having earned 18 Bonus Points last season, with 12 the season before that, Davies is on his way to having his best ever season in that area. As for goals, spot-kick duties can only help the cause, as demonstrated today. With 4 goals to his name so far, and a couple of assists to back them up, there’s every reason to expect Davies to notch his best ever FPL points tally.

While Fabio Capello has taken notice, Fantasy Managers have chosen to pass. Priced at 6.3 and with Johan Elmander a cheaper and more fashionable option, Davies seems unlikely to pick up huge interest, even after today’s 16 point haul. Two away fixtures at Everton and Wolves may also put off investors. Bolton have not yet failed to score on their travels however, and once through that pair of away games, Bolton enjoy three home fixtures in four, with Newcastle, Blackpool and Blackburn all visiting the Reebok. Davies has every chance of getting himself on our Christmas wishlists.

Along with Elmander, Davies is this evening amongst the top six strikers in the FPL. Only the Drogba/Anelka fair better as a pairing. Few could have predicted such success for the Bolton attack at the start of the season – a fitting scenario on a day for the underdog.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Typical news of the world. They love screwing up sports stars lives. First it was Ricky Hatton, then Wayne Rooney and now Nolan and Carrol.

Next week, they'll say that Frank Lampard regularly sleeps with a horse.

Just watched Late Late Show from last night on SkyPlus (sad I know).
A brilliant tribute to Johnny Giles who is 70 today. A sensational midfielder of his generation who knew how to properly control a game. Me Da tells me stories about watching him at Dalymount Park and how he competed with the best Europe had to offer at the time.
Broke into the Utd. first team at 18, and went on to become Leeds leading light for 12 seasons.
Voted Ireland's best ever player by UEFA (ahead of the likes of McGrath/ Brady/ Keane/ Liam Whelan etc.)
Became Ireland player/ manager at 32.
Had a reputation as a bit dirty....but part and parcel of the game back then and it can't take away from the fact that he was considered one of the best passers of the football in English league history.
Over the past 20 years, he has become, in my opinion the best football analyst on TV. He gives the viewers an insight to the game that they couldn't possibly hope to get from the likes of Gray/ J Redknapp/ Shearer/ Lawro/ Dixon/ Keown/ Earle/ Townsend/ Hansen etc.

Sorry, off topic, and I realise our friends in UK/ NZ/ USA etc. don't know who I'm talking about.

I'm off to bed, good night!

When the Ashes really start up, it'll be around 10:30-11 am here. So it will start around midnight. When the Perth test is on (I think that's the third test), it starts at 2 am your time. The 1st (Brisbane) and 2nd test (Adelaide) will start 1 AM your time. Boxing day and the new years test will be at 12 am.

True. Adelaide is traditionally a batsman's wicket that crumbles as the test goes on. It's where we (Australia) had that historic win. We both made 500 odd but you guys had about 30 more runs. You were then still batting at around lunch on day 5. We got you all out and still found time to win.

I have a feeling they'll be quite a few injuries during midweek so it would be ideal having two freebies after the coming gameweek. My team is in pretty decent shape but I'd have to play either Elmo or Dempsey if I was to not make a transfer?

Transfer would be Dembele > Piquonne. ID is 2669 if you want to see take a look.

Here Jamsie, who were your favourite characters? For me it was Omar, Bodie, Bunk, McNulty the Polish named cop/teacher (cant remember his name now) not necessarily in that order. SPOILER ALERT

I actually never particularly liked Omar, although he was undoubtedly a cracking character..

Other than that it's pretty much the same.. Prezbowhatshisface was brilliant in season 4, that whole storyline with the kids really struck a nerve.

D'Angelo was another favourite of mine, way back in the first two seasons, and I actually quite liked that nutter Chris, despite ruthlessly killing about 50 people!

2nd in the league. Chelsea beat me by 3 points.

          Won the FA Cup.

Lost to Real Madrid by 1 goal on aggregate in the semi finals of the champs league.

Went out in quarters or semis of league cup to Chelsea.

Not too bad I guess. Was rushing through a bit. Want to see how much cash I get this year!

That was always the biggest draw of the game for me, spotting a real cheapie who turns into a world beater. There is always three or four, on FM2009 (the last one I have) Franco Zucilini (or something) was brilliant, you could get him for 500k early days and he'd never play worse than a 7

^Alright you guys, who would you pick between:
    1. Knight (nice fixtures, in a so-so defense)
    2. Foley (really nice fixtures, dirt cheap, in a crap defense)
    3. Coleman (obvious choice, but with Fellaini and Bily returning, rotation is a worry)

    Need a Shawcross replacement

So many people say Billy is a danger to Coleman. Has Moyes ever used Billy on the right? Atleast not this season. Like you saw today, when Billy came on Pienaar was subbed.

Coleman's danger is Osman and Rodwell. Too bad Neville is the club captain or he could play at RB too.

From what we saw on MOTD it looked as though Pienaar went off with an injury... If that's anything serious then Coleman could be 100% nailed on for the next couple of weeks.
