Barring the unthinkable, Kevin Davies will be sitting on 54 points in the Fantasy Premier League this evening. His brace of goals and the smart assist for Martin Petrov’s late fourth in the win over Spurs will surely earn him the maximum Bonus Points. That would move the Bolton striker onto 14 Bonus Points overall – more than any other Forward in the game.

The underdogs and the unfashionable were always in with a chance of shining this weekend. With some of the FPL’s top individuals – Rafael Van der Vaart, Nani and Florent Malouda all possibly missing out, the opportunity was always there for the unsung heroes to step forward and save the Gameweek. Ji-Sung Park stepped out of Nani’s shadow and duly obliged over at Old Trafford, but in Fantasy terms, they don’t come more unsung than Kevin Davies.

As usual the Bolton striker was heavily involved throughout today’s game. His Bonus Point popularity may well be a mystery to some, but for those familiar with his influence and contribution to the cause, it’s no surprise. Our Members need only cast an eye over the Opta stat tables, paying particular attention to “Touches”, “Passes Made”, “Key Passes” and “Successful Passes in the Oppositions Half”, to get a view on how Davies compares to the rest of the league. He is without doubt one of the most influential strikers around. In the FPL, that will always make up for his lack of goals – particularly in a Bolton side bereft of stars.

Having earned 18 Bonus Points last season, with 12 the season before that, Davies is on his way to having his best ever season in that area. As for goals, spot-kick duties can only help the cause, as demonstrated today. With 4 goals to his name so far, and a couple of assists to back them up, there’s every reason to expect Davies to notch his best ever FPL points tally.

While Fabio Capello has taken notice, Fantasy Managers have chosen to pass. Priced at 6.3 and with Johan Elmander a cheaper and more fashionable option, Davies seems unlikely to pick up huge interest, even after today’s 16 point haul. Two away fixtures at Everton and Wolves may also put off investors. Bolton have not yet failed to score on their travels however, and once through that pair of away games, Bolton enjoy three home fixtures in four, with Newcastle, Blackpool and Blackburn all visiting the Reebok. Davies has every chance of getting himself on our Christmas wishlists.

Along with Elmander, Davies is this evening amongst the top six strikers in the FPL. Only the Drogba/Anelka fair better as a pairing. Few could have predicted such success for the Bolton attack at the start of the season – a fitting scenario on a day for the underdog.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Bit early in the week I know but if all my front 8 are fit I've got a hard decision on who to drop:
    Fabregas (wol)
    Malouda (FUL)
    VDV (SUN?)
    Nzogbia (LIV)
    Arteta (BOL)
    Elmander (eve)
    Drogba (FUL)
    Carroll (BLA)

Common sense would say Elmander but he's scores all his goals away from home but can't make a case to drop anyone else?!

What's wrong with the forwards this year? It's either bargain basement or Drogba. Berbs and Hernandez have scored some decent points as well as Tevez and Chamakh. But for the following two weeks United don't have good fixtures, Tevez's status is a bit uncertain and Chamakh will be a rotation threat with Bentdner back and RVP in full training. Piqouinne or Elmander it is then.

Ditto the midfielders. Remember the halcyon days of two years ago? Spoilt for choice. Think this may be telling us something about the state of the premiership.

West Ham and Bolton striker no ta. West Ham just sh*te and Elmander gets goals and BP's stolen by Davies.

Davies has been on four yellow cards for a very long time, hence why people have chosen elmander

Elmander has done rather well thus far and West Ham, despite being dire, have two games against promoted sides who like to play an attacking game. Gives me enough funds to upgrade Evra to Cahsley and then Nasri to Nani in a couple of weeks. When RVP and Tevez are back that would give a few more options to choose from.

re west ham, their front 3 players are exciting. with a bit more support from their midfield they will do well, i dont think they are that far away, they battered brum yesterday, very unlucky not to get the 3 points.

Massive game but a weird one. Our season is over so a win here will be bitter sweet handing ManUre a lifeline. the chances are mighty slim however.

A win ould take us joint 5th, quite a wide open league under the top 4.

            Wait minute Voronin.

These 'much enthused about' Spurs you talk of have been regularly reported to have had an iffy start to the season (even before the Bolton game). We've lost to West Ham and Wigan already this season, so if anything, it has surprised me that Spurs were sitting 4th on Saturday morning.

As you should know - successes in the Champions League can easily mask failings elsewhere.

It's very good news for Liverpool though, as with points being shared around, and (Chelsea apart) the top sides all losing random games, then Liverpool are not as adrift as they should be.

              Hey Anorak,

The enthusiasm may well be mainly coming from the disillusioned Spurs fans that are my friends. I am actually genuinely surprised at how much better Spurs are playing compared to LFC and the difference in points being so tiny.

Difficult to judge your 'success' in the Champions League yet. Beating a Rafa's Inter Milan is very different to beating a Jose's. However i do know first hand how the build up of games destroys league form and it is a hard balancing act.

True - Spurs are definitely learning the ropes on that one (how anyone backed us to beat Bolton yesterday is beyond me - the defeat was a certainty).

I wouldn't call Spurs CL campaign a success (yet?), but we've had some successes. However, if we get out of the group - and we should now - then it'll be a great success. Only down side is that I can't see how we'll finish top 4 again this season, big 3 and City look nailed on for those spots.

I'd be grateful if someone could clarify the whole Bolton assist affair, am I right in assuming Elmander will get one more assist from the first goal (currently awarded to Taylor) and also that Lee should get an assist for the penalty?

You won't be getting more points. You have been missing the capital letter when starting a sentence. 😛

Ha fair enough! In which I shall be sure to cross my t's and dot my lower case j's from now on!

Stick to dotting the lower case i's. You will rarely use the letter j.

I’m thinking of getting rid of berba this week to bring in carroll or dembele. That would also leave me enough money left over to buy either ashley cole or a shit hot midfielder….say fabregas??? What does everyone reckon?

            Current team:
            Hart
            elmo, samba, baines, terry
            arteta, brunt, adam
            drogba, berba, elmander

            subs: etuhu, williamson, VDV

As long as Tevez scores 5 goals then I don't mind those predictions.
