Wednesday evening finds us popping out for the Weekly Shop, plundering the player lists of our partner games to assess the likely targets that will make up our weekend lineups.

Our analysis of the options is split into two sections: I’ll breakdown the key targets that no squad can do without in “Better Buys”, before seeking out those one-shot “Poundstretcher” prospects that can provide us points, whilst freeing up funds.

For this week’s selection, we’re scanning the players lists in our two partner games – FantasyBet and Premier Punt.

Better Buys

Manchester United may be struggling in attack but have been defensively sound with four shut-outs in five: they’ve conceded just a single goal at Old Trafford to date.

That ensures that David de Gea (FantasyBet 5.5m, Premier Punt 9m) is the standout option across the weekly games. The Spaniard has made three or more saves in four of his seven league appearances so far, with his shot-stopping abilities earning two bonus points against Crystal Palace in United’s previous outing. Given West Brom’s lack of punch, it’s difficult to see De Gea being breached at Old Trafford.

Jurgen Klopp’s reliance on full-backs to provide the attacking width within his system has Alberto Moreno (FantasyBet 5m, Premier Punt 8.4m) promoted up from the Poundstretcher classification. Moreno’s raiding runs down the flank have resulted in the left-back having more goal attempts (six) over the last three than any other defender. Liverpool welcome a Crystal Palace side that have scored just once in their last three matches on the road.

Riyad Mahrez (FantasyBet 6.5m, Premier Punt 9.9m) proved once again that ignoring his talents can be damaging; a brace against West Brom brought his total for the season to seven goals in 11 matches. The Algerian’s consistency has been a huge asset and, having blanked on just three occasions so far, I’m finding it difficult to look beyond Mahrez heading into the home meeting with Watford.

Arsenal have won five successive league matches and have averaged three goals a game over that run. Mesut Ozil (FantasyBet 8.5m, Premier Punt 13.3m) has been the prime architect for that impressive record with seven assists and a goal, making the German playmaker a must-have in Sunday’s north London derby. Team-mate Olivier Giroud (FantasyBet 9m, Premier Punt 14m) is also one to consider, with a goal in each of his last three – the Frenchman remains assured of starts with Theo Walcott sidelined.

Elsewhere in attack, I’m currently assessing Christian Benteke (FantasyBet 8.5m, Premier Punt 13m) as a key candidate. The Belgian has suffered limited pitch time but he looks certain to start against Palace and has scored in three of his last four Premier League outings. Carrying on from Villa last season, Benteke now has 15 goals in 19 top-flight appearances: that makes him impossible to ignore.

Poundstretchers

Leicester picked up their first clean sheet of the season in their previous match at the King Power and Kasper Schmeichel (FantasyBet 4.5m, Premier Punt 7.6m) will be eager to improve on that record with the visit of promoted Watford. Odion Ighalo will be a major threat if he recovers from a knock, but, despite his form, I foresee another call to the Pizza Parlour for Ranieri’s men.

I’m also looking at Jeffrey Schlupp in FantasyBet, where he’s classified as a 5.0 defender. Whilst confidence in Leicester’s defence is understandably shaky, few can doubt their devastating attacking threat. Schlupp, on the left-flank or even in the number ten role, looks a very handy defensive differential.

Sunderland have conceded two or more goals seven times this season, which has me lean towards Southampton’s assets as they drop in on the Stadium of Light this weekend. Dusan Tadic (FantasyBet 7m, Premier Punt 10.8m) has outscored Sadio Mane (FantasyBet 8m, Premier Punt 12.1m) overall after picking up an assist against Bournemouth and is also a cheaper alternative to Graziano Pelle (FantasyBet 8m, Premier Punt 12.2m).

We drop in on Bournemouth for our budget striker pick this week. Glenn Murray (FantasyBet 6m, Premier Punt 7.6m) has two in four for Eddie Howe’s side and the veteran frontman could be up against Newcastle’s fourth choice keeper, with Robert Elliot the latest to be struck by injury.

These are the contenders for my weekly contest lineups heading into the weekend. I’ll return on Friday with a further assessment of this week’s partner games – FantasyBet and Premier Punt, as I continue my quest for profit in the 2015/16 campaign.

    DZ thoughts on this team?

    Schmeichel
    Monreal, Van Dijk, Francis
    Sanchez, Ozil, Mane(c), Mahrez(vc)
    Pelle, Lukaku, Ighalo

    Butland, Evans, Anya, Prodl 6.4m

Stil undecided on Francis/Evans, cheers for the thoughts above. Quite like the Ozil + Mane over the template KDB + Payet myself, thoughts?

Still think KDB is a great pick while Aguero is out myself. That defense needs a transfer. I don't mind taking a hit to upgrade Prodl at all.

yeah prodl must go, i'm thinking it can wait till next week though. Eyeing up a cheeky punt on Danny Rose

Well I'd start Evans over Francis this weekend, honestly, but yeah Prodl needs to go. I've got him too haha. Ugh. If you want to captain Mane this weekend then I'd pick him for sure.

How damn annoying has it been wth Watford getting the Cs's when Prodl was dropped? lol
Are u getting rid of this week or next?

Yeah it will be Mane or Mahrez but i'm more keen on Mane because he is just a goal machine

Not sure re: Prodl. Not in too much of a hurry to be honest, have fine coverage to float me for another couple of GWs.

WC is long gone foe me. This is assuming i do my planned Mata to Mane transfer. Would you buy KDB over Mane? I just see Mane a better long term pick to enable Kun when back and short term aswell since i want to captain him this week

I like Mane, I have him and will keep him for a longer term. I own KdB but I am seriously consider to replace him with Silva if he is back and stay healthy, he could be a good differential. I won't bring KdB in if I were you.

    GTG?

    Butland
    Kolarov - Rojo - Moreno

    Lukaku - Vardy

    Myhill - Pelle - Williams - Francis

    Cheers.

Yes overall, solid XI. Though Pelle vs Payet is very close (re benching), I'd lean towards playing the former considering Sunderland's god awful defensive showing recently & atrocious defensive underlying stats.

    1. Huth (WAT)

    Team is:

    Butland
    Kolarov, Francis
    Sanchez, KDB, Payet, Mane, Mahrez(C)
    Pelle, Vardy, Ighalo

    McCarthy, Dawson, Nyom, *Bellerin*

2 FTs, 3.3 ITB. What to do?

    A) Butland ----> DDG
    B) McCarthy ----> Playing GK and rotate with Butland
    C) Dawson ---> Moreno/VVD and play them over Francis
    D) A + C
    E) something else?

I'm personally leaning towards A at the moment but like to hear some thoughts. Cheers 🙂

        Cheers.

I'm not yet convinced Rojo is nailed. I do like Moreno as an option but I'm not to keen on his fixtures yet. This is similar to the Martial situation where everyone got him because of SUN at home and then realised after that game his fixtures were terrible

Moreno in for Dawson moving forward..?
Will consider other 5.0m or less defenders too.

    Butland, Schmeichel
Ward, Kolorov, Francis, Toby, (Dawson) my current defence.

Francis to Moreno for sure, easily imo.

  8. Zasa

    10 years, 1 month ago

I like that duo more as well, solid move & nice team overall. Prodl & Francis are your weak spots though imo, pretty bad fixtures going into December. Also, relying on Evans to stay fit as your third heavy hitter in defense & to last until Christmas, is less than ideal imo. Not to mention the sea of red fixtures he's faced with now lasting until the New Year or thereabouts. I think a transfer in the near future for a better defender (Moréno perhaps) should be in the works to replace Prodl/Francis.

    Kolarov Skrtel (Naughton*, Coloccini, Dawson)
    Sanchez Mane Payet Mahrez Ayew*
    Bony Pelle Vardy

    2.9m, 2 FTs

    A) Begovic > DDG, save other FT
    B) Ayew > Sterling, save other FT
    C) Skrtel + Ayew > Moreno + KDB

    Much appreciated.

Tough. Weird team. Hm. As much as I hate having benching headaches in attack you have to focus on defense in my view. Even still it's a weird one. I'd probably do Naughton or Dawson out and float the other. Probably for Rojo? Or Coleman?

Yea messed up my team with a strong front 8 after Aguero was out...thought my transfer for last week (Costa > Bony) was the most advised transfer option from the community.

I know it's a weird one at the moment with no real premium option in attack. I too think it's time to spend transfers on defence but will probably be playing AoA so it's either I use a transfer on a benched defender...or get a defender i'd play over Kolarov and Skrtel.

Liverpool look better defensively at the moment.

Not sure I'd be too trigger happy on shooting Ayew imo. His next two are (nor, BOU, liv, LEI, sun), I think he's worth holding for at least this week & see how Swansea fare offensively. He coud very well demolish that Norwich backline & be a prime target/bandwagon for his upcoming fixtures. Swansea face four of the leagues worst defenses in these next five - http://members.fantasyfootballscout.co.uk/public-stats-tables/view/6810/ - sort by goal attempts in box & big chances conceded.

Begovic is worth holding unto imo, no need or the luxury GK trannie right now. This GW looks alright or a CS & have kind upcoming fixtures (sto, NOR, tot, BOU, lei, SUN). Though if they're horrid again this & next GW, I'd probably sell for DDG assuming you have no other priorities by then.

I'd keep Skrtél as well, no need to sell for now imo. So I'd consider saving here tbh, Shifty.

Oh lawd nvm, you have 2 FT's, probably some tidying up at the back then with either Colo/Naughton to Saints defender (or Spurs). Roll the other trannie over, save her for next week imo.

Also, consider your Agüero plan, would a Skrtel downgrade make the transition easier.

Thanks again. My Aguero plan is to downgrade one of Payet/Mane/Ayew and Bony > Aguero - easy with 2 FTs.

It seems abit sideways but Skrtel > Moreno seems to be a decent option if I'm playing AoA. or Naughton > a 4.5 defender.

Ah, that sounds good mate. I like that plan.

I'm not so sure it's really necessary tbh, Colo's deadwood, he needs to be set free. Don't let the afro fool you!

      2. Shifty
        • 12 Years

Thanks for the reply Zasa. Ayew is a tricky one - he has good fixtures, good goal involvement, always looks good when I watch him. Will probably keep then - but would have to play that AoA as I can't see anyone I'd want to bench this week.

I have 2 FTs at the moment...so will have to use one. Coming off a 33 point gameweek with Mahrez Coloccini benched, I feel like I shouldn't be burning one.

I'd bench either him or Payet tbh, going off team attacking form when in doubt. Those are the two weakest attacks in your XI, so it's between them imo.

    How's my team looking?

    Myhill
    Sagna - Moreno - Zouma
    Mahrez (c) - KDB - Sanchez - Payet
Vardy - Pelle - Bony (vc)

Bench: McCarthy - Bellerin - Westwood - Richards

Yeah Zouma is on the way out soon, not doing it for -4 when he has Stoke this week though.

I'm good with Myhill vs United, good chance of 0-0, but he too will be leaving my team soon

What's the status on Bellerin and Janmaat? Bellerin now 25% 🙁

    Cech
    Moreno / Janmaat / Bellerin
    Sanchez / Payet / KDB / Mahrez
    Pelle / Bony / Vardy

Subs: Gomes / Dawson / Wanyama / Prodl

Is it worth transferring out Prodl to someone and benching Bellerin?
or is it better to save the FT, play Dawson and hope that Janmaat starts?

    Butland
    Moreno Kolorov
    Mata Sanchez Yaya KDB Mahrez
    Vardy (C) Pelle Lukaku

    McCarthy Bertrand Richards Targett.
    0.5 ITB

    Rough plan later
    Mata to 4.5
    Kolorov to Bellerin/ Rojo/ TOT
    Pelle to Aguero

It's a strange dichotomy this week. On one hand so many front 8s in which every player has a strong or even a 'plum' fixture, on the other hand no real convincing captaincy options.

Ayew has Norwich and Bournemouth coming up,

But still a bench headache. Keep mata, bench him and worry about it next week maybe?

Why no Özil, Kurt? Please don't say lack of goals 😉 He's outscored Sánchez since Gw5 with only one goal to his name btw.

Just have an irrational dislike of him as an fpl player. Can't explain it haha.

So who to start this week? Both decent options..

    A) Butland (Che)

    B) Myhill (Mun)

Am I crazy to start Janmaat over Moreno?

Not at all. Janmaat is the foundation of all solid defences

Huh?! Why? Newcastle hardly keep CS, I am only hoping for his attacking thread.

A bit imo, Moreno's goal threat has been among the best especially now under Klopp's gegenpress, & Liverpool are at home playing a Palace side. Four goals in their last seven matches, with three (might be wrong here), being Cabaye penalties.
