We carry out our club-by-club scan of the treatment rooms, on the day that West Ham playmaker Dimitri Payet was ruled out for up to three months with an ankle injury sustained against Everton.

Elsewhere, Liverpool face an anxious wait for the full prognosis on Mamadou Sakho’s knee problem, whilst City are boosted by Sergio Aguero’s progress, as Wilfried Bony is left nursing his hamstring.

Arsenal

Santi Cazorla was replaced by Manuel Flamini at half time of the North London derby, in what initially looked like a tactical decision. Arsene Wenger revealed in his post-match press conference, however, that the Spanish playmaker was suffering from dizziness that affected his mobility:

“We suffered in the first half because Cazorla was at 30 per cent of his potential, he was dizzy. I was sitting there thinking do I take him off or not? You never know, maybe it will get better. At half-time I took him off, and in the second half we had a bit better balance. He is not sick, he was just dizzy and could not move, you could see that on the pitch. I did not really know what he had, so at half-time I took him off, I hope it is nothing bad, but it does not look like it, because he says he is alright now.”

Bournemouth

Eddie Howe confirmed that Marc Pugh – who was withdraw after 45 minutes last Gameweek – was unavailable for selection after failing to shake off a knock.

Chelsea

The Blues defender Kurt Zouma has withdrawn from duties for the France Under 21 side due to an unspecified injury earlier today.

Crystal Palace

Eagles fitness coach John Salako has issued an update on Dwight Gayle, who missed the weekend win over Liverpool due to a hamstring injury:

“Dwight works very hard and, unfortunately, I think he’s got a Grade Two tear – he’s had the scan. He could face three-to-four weeks on the sidelines now. He is young so we’ll see, it could be two weeks, it could be (up to) four.”

Everton

Tyias Browning picked up a minor knee injury in training during the week, ruling him out for England U21’s match-up against Bosnia on Thursday. Toffees boss Roberto Martinez went on to say:

“We had a warm-up game on Wednesday and he picked up an injury in his knee. It is nothing serious but we’ll have to speak with England and manage that situation. I don’t think he’ll be available for the next game, but he could be available for the game against Switzerland in Brighton.”

Fellow full-back Brendan Galloway is also being assessed ahead of England U21’s upcoming pair of matches. Earlier today, manager Gareth Southgate revealed:

“Brendan is being assessed now, he is with us. It’s a muscular injury but we don’t want to take any chances. Maybe he is okay for Thursday; maybe he is okay for Monday. We don’t know.”

Liverpool

The Merseysiders were rocked earlier this evening after scans confirmed that Mamadou Sakho is set for a period on the sidelines after limping off early during the weekend loss to Palace. Liverpool expect to discover the likely period of absence tomorrow, with the Frenchman set to see a specialist.

Jordon Ibe has withdrawn from England U21 duties against Bosnia and Switzerland with a knee injury, The youngster suffered no more than bruising, though, and is expected to be available for the Gameweek 13 trip to City.

James Milner sat out Sunday’s defeat having suffered a hamstring injury in their Europa League clash against Rubin Kazan. After the Anfield loss, Jurgen Klopp played down the severity of the injury:

“In Kazan, he had not the best moment with his muscle. But he’s an experienced player, and it was nothing serious and in this moment he can train.”

Manchester City

Wilfried Bony pulled up with a hamstring problem at Villa Park and had to be substituted at the 24-minute mark. Although Manuel Pellegrini doesn’t expect the Ivorian to play for his country during the international break, he did suggest that Bony could travel with the squad to get his injury assessed:

“It is difficult to know at this moment how serious his hamstring injury is. We will see tomorrow. I don’t know – maybe he will have to go and join up with Ivory Coast. His country must review the injury. But I don’t think he will be able to play and he will return to Manchester.”

In more positive developments for the Sky Blues, Pellegrini reported that a quartet of injured players are progressing well in their rehabilitation, with Sergio Aguero targeting a return next Gamweek against Liverpool:

“I hope that this week he [Aguero], (David) Silva, (Samir) Nasri and (Pablo) Zabaleta, will work with the physiotherapist and next Monday they will start working with the squad. We will see in the way he improves this week, but I think there is a chance he can be (back for Liverpool).”

Earlier today, Aguero took to twitter to confirm:

“Giving it my all on recovery work. There’s still more to go but getting better by the day!”

Manchester United

Marouane Fellaini missed Manchester United’s 2-0 home win over West Bromwich Albion and will not travel with Belgium ahead of their back-to-back friendlies, given that he sustained an injury in training.

Norwich City

Nathan Redmond was sidelined for the Canaries’ win over Swansea and has withdrawn from international duty with the England U21s, having injured his thigh in midweek.

Newcastle United

In the wake of the Magpies’ 1-0 road victory against Bournemouth, stand-in shot-stopper Rob Elliot revealed that he played against the advice of the club’s doctors. The former Charlton keeper is nursing a thigh injury but is confident that a fortnight of rest will hold him in good stead when Leicester City pay a visit next Gameweek.

“If you ask the manager, I was always playing. If you ask the doctor, then I probably wasn’t playing last week either. I was always going to play, and I didn’t know how good or bad it was going to be. It wasn’t too bad today, it was quite painful and I just had to get underneath the ball and lift it, you just don’t want to let the team down. I said to the manager, if you want me to play I will play, but just so long as I’m not going to hinder the team. I’m going to go and see the specialist and hopefully get some good news off him. Get some treatment, get some strength, get some rest. Hopefully I’ll be ready for Leicester and hopefully (we can) start showing the team that we can be, rather than the team we could be.”

Sunderland

John O’Shea is carrying a hamstring injury and will be assessed by Sunderland’s medical team to determine his availability for Ireland’s Euro 2012 qualifying play-off:

“Rob Elliot, John O’Shea, Paul McShane, Alan Judge, and Shane Long will all be assessed by their respective clubs before reporting for international duty.”

West Ham United

The Hammers have been dealt a major blow after Dimitri Payet was ruled out for around three months with an ankle injury sustained against Everton on Saturday. His replacement against the Toffees, Enner Valencia, was forced off with a similar complaint and will be assessed by a specialist early next week, the club’s official website has revealed.

    Deulofeu v Barkley

Barkley has played more than twice as many minutes, has averaged 2.9 shorts per game v 0.2. Dribbles more (2.7 v 1.3) and more key passes (2 v 1.1)

Barkley costs .6 more but minutes swing it for me

Deulofeu seems to have won his place back now and Barkley's shooting stats are skewed by his Coutinho-esque penchant for a wild long shot.

So my season is going from bad to worse, trying to start moving up my ML would appreciate your help on what should be done here:

    Begovic
    Azpilicueta Koscielny Dier
    De Bruyne Sánchez Payet Mané
    Pellè Vardy Lukaku

    Subs: McCarthy Dawson Targett Westwood
    1.7M in the bank

    Thinking of the following:
1- Payet to somebody cheap to ease Aguero back in in GW 13 or 14
2- Getting a Man U defender for the coming run, thinking Dier out for Rojo or Smalling

If I'm going to ship Payet out at all over the two weeks, it kind of has to be today before his price drops, otherwise I may as well sit through the drops and get him out on WC.

    Down to:

    - Cabaye (4 YCs)
    - Bolasie (No form or end product so far)
    - Willian (Plays for Chelsea *shudder* and hasn't been a great fpl option in the past)

He might not get his 90 minutes, I know, but he's BOUND to improve, he was KdB-esque for Hoffenheim.

If he flops, I'll ship on WC, at least he won't drop in price like Payet.

Is Payet to 4.4 (Anya) or 4.5 (Drinkwater) for a hit crazy?

Seems dull, but helps with getting Aguero back later, either for Ighalo with downgrading Kdb or for Benteke/Kane depending on how things are going.

    Butland (McCarthy)
Moreno - Zouma - Williams (Xouma, Richards)
    Payet - Sanchez - Mane - Kdb - Mahrez
    Lane - Benteke (Ighalo)

    2.9 itb

I like the idea of getting rid of the weekly benching dilemma too..

This. Sanchez is undoubtedly more explosive, but everyone is lauding Ozil for being consistent, which I think KDB will prove to be as well.

I'm looking to keep and lose Sanchez for Aguero (have Ozil).

Need someone for 2 games until WC, I have Ighalo as backup for this week as Liverpool play City, but I could very easily be tempted by a punt on Firmino against Swansea (can't afford Cout)

Ok, there isn't a hot topic hulked yet on who to replace Payet with.....so who would you pick as a replacement? let's go with 3 choices:

      1) A cheapo to enable Aguero for those without the cash e.g. Wij, Cabaye, Deulofeu
      2) A like for like swap c7.5m to 8.5m e.g. Mane, Coutinho, Yaya
      3) An expensive option for those going without Aguero e.g. KDB, Silva, Mata, Sterling

Care to voice your opinion on the below?

      Sanchez Tadic and Sinclair (A)
      vs
      Ozil Silva and Gosling (B)

      A) Sanchez Tadic and Sinclair
Sanchez would play every week. Hes stats are on the decline but Walcott will be back soon which will open up spaces for him.
Tadic and Sinclair will rotate with Ighalo. Both offer pens but they may not complete the 90 mins.

      B) Ozil Silva and Gosling
Gosling would be benched meaning that Ighalo plays every week.
Silva returning from injury and Ozil in red hot form. Neither mid is renowned for their goal scoring exploits but both will rack up a load of assists.

This is something debated every season on FPL, but wanted to consider whether its worth breaking apart my team to accommodate Aguero again. Although his 25pt (or 50 for some of us) haul before the injury was great, he sits at 13m which means downgrading more than one area for many of us and taking hits along the way in some cases.

In the past I've had RvP and no problems with paying that amount because what you get is goal scoring consistency, but also because he is the main point scorer. Now I'm sure Aguero will be picking up points sometime soon, but you stand a much better chance of covering these points with Silva/KdB/Yaya/Sterling (mainly the former two) than if he played in another team. In order to make this move a success, Aguero has to score enough to justify his price, for which you can get Vardy (7.4) + Ighalo (5.5) combined with change. Yes, you can captain Aguero as a solid choice for his big hauls which is a strong point. I'd still wager that Vardy (C) + Ighalo would score higher than a fit Aguero (C) right now (although never would have imagined it a few months ago). By the way, I know of course many of you have Vardy and Ighalo - I'm just using them as an example, otherwise think of Aguero + Drinkwater (17.5m) vs Lukaku + Ozil (17.4m). All things considered, I know Aguero is quality for FPL and a great asset / basically as fixture proof as you can get. But what troubles me with Aguero is his injuries and unpredictability and the fact many of us are contemplating taking out great, consistent scoring players, often for a hit that might end up being worth just as much if not more in the long run.

Most of us have KdB, and you could incorporate Silva in a 5 man midfield who are the two focal playmakers behind most of their attacks.

But then your paying 20m for 2 city mids who you could well captain the wrong one each week

I'd fancy Aguero & Mahrez, for the same money to outscore them

But then most of us have Mahrez already, and there aren't many at Mahrez's price range doing as well as he is in midfield. You could even get by with just Silva I think at this stage once he's back. Timing will be key whether or not you choose to have Aguero.

I know, I get that - first thing I mentioned. But Ozil will get regular assists, Vardy consistent goals, and other players half his price will get hat tricks.

Vardy's goals will surely dry up. The point is that you are much more likely to hit Aguero's hatricks with him as captain due to his fixture proof nature. Remember that you can also only field 11 players so comparing Drinkwater and Ozil is kind of pointless. If they're both sitting on your bench you won't be getting too many points from them.

That said there is an argument to be had about Aguero. But I think it needs to be supported by comparing the points in previous seasons between obvious captain picks and upgrades in a team without him to a typical team with him as captain every week.

If comparing Vardy vs Aguero plain and simple, of course Aguero wins every time. But it's not, its Vardy (C) + Ighalo vs Aguero (C).

Also, of course Drinkwater would be on the bench, but in the Lukaku/Ozil example you'd still have the additional 5-7m worth of funds invested wherever you like, for example in solid defenders or a strong front 7 (and a strong bench will be important in the upcoming months). The point I'm trying to make is that his injuries can make him a liability, his points can be covered to an extent for a cheaper price by the playmakers KdB/Silva whilst using the extra funds elsewhere - like upgrading Drinkwater to Ozil 😉

Yep I understand, and I would like to see how going Agueroless with the money invested elsewhere has panned out in previous seasons. It would be interesting to know whether it's easy to achieve the same/more points or if it requires careful rotation and lucky captaincy picks.

Even though I don't know the answer, I think Aguero's upside is so big and that I will score double his points in nearly every game is worth it!

I fully understand that, and if he can stay injury free and you can get him in easily enough then why not. Timing will be essential though - good luck!

When comparing all the points that we can cover etc no-one ever takes the captain choice into account when talking about Aguero.

Having that reliable person you can stick the armband on every week helps. Maybe he won't do it this season but he's been consistent in the past.

Also I don't get the Vardy (c) + Ighalo v Aguero. Why don't you get 2 players in the Aguero scenario? I'm sure most of us can afford Aguero - Ighalo - 8-9m~

Hi Andy - I did take this into account and said "Yes, you can captain Aguero as a solid choice for his big hauls which is a strong point" and I acknowledge he is as fixture proof as you can get.

As for your second point, I am comparing price equivalent in terms of what 13m can get you, pure and simple. I know many of us have Vardy/Ighalo, which is why I also gave the example of Aguero + Drinkwater vs Lukaku + Ozil to show how the funds can be used whilst still regaining consistent returns from other captain choices as so many players are doing well this season.

This Payet injury is a pain. Now I have to revisit my Aguero plan

I posted something a little while ago. But I am just hunting down a better idea. I can go with a variant on plan a which is simple and easy and will do ok I am sure but I can't help but feel I can do a little better. I am about all night tonight and not at work so fully available for FIFFSA

You are right. This is an opportunity. Same as the Aguero situation a few weeks ago and needs to be looked at the same way

The Mirror linking Carroll with a move back to Newcastle - lazy journalistic speculation, surely.

I am afraid that Carroll has a very weak character.

He has very strong roots in the north east, most of his dealers live there
