With the third international break of the season upon us, we’re afforded time to assess the leading contenders in the Fantasy Football Scout leagues across a variety of games. With leagues in Fantasy Premier League (FPL), Ultimate Fantasy Premier League,Sky Sports and Sun Dream Team, there’s plenty to catch up on.

FANTASY PREMIER LEAGUE

Jon Mjelde surged to the top of our Scout League – and 20th in the overall rankings – by way of a 64-point haul this Gameweek. His decision to captain Romelu Lukaku paid dividends, while Jamie Vardy and Harry Kane also found the target. Although all four of Jon’s midfielders drew blanks, clean sheets from David de Gea, Virgil van Dijk and Aleksandar Kolarov bolstered his score.

Despite posting 60 points (15 above the average), Mark Kalafatas was displaced from the top spot following the last round of fixtures. The 29th-ranked manager opted for a 3-5-2 set-up, deploying Vardy and Lukaku as his strike partnership. Manuel Lanzini (1% ownership) proved to an excellent differential, while Mesut Ozil carded a handy eight points.

Samuel Slennet – who sat at the summit when we last penned a leagues round-up – sits in third place by virtue of a 57-point Gameweek. Samuel was rewarded for handing Vardy the skipper’s armband and also profited from Jack Butland’s and Daryl Janmaat’s shut-out points.

Amassing 72 points, Chris Rigden propelled himself into fourth place. A back four that included the likes of Butland and Scott Dann combined for 31 points. In the attacking positions, Ozil, Lukaku and Vardy (captain) brought home the bacon.

Rounding off the top five, Panna Fricker (65 points) also excelled on the defensive front after plumping for double Manchester City coverage (Bacary Sagna and Kolarov). Captain Harry Kane and Vardy complemented her defensive returns.

We’re pleased to say we sit in top spot in the League of Leagues as we look to defend our title for another season. To join this league use the code: 600-520

FPL MEMBERS SCOUT LEAGUE

Jon Mjelde is also the frontrunner in the Members League and boasts a 34-point lead at the top of the leaderboard.

Andrew Dougan retained his second spot from last Gameweek with a tally of 48 points. Although his Alexis Sanchez captaincy failed to hit the mark, Vardy, Lukaku, Butland and Kolarov came up trumps.

Third-place Marsel Levi was left frustrated by Wilfried Bony’s early withdrawal but still managed to accrue 50 points. Beyond a Vardy captaincy, Kolarov, Ozil and De Gea were his key performers.

The curiously named Zunker 1 will have some tinkering to do in the wake of injuries to Mamadou Sakho and Dimitri Payet. Nonetheless, they notched a respectable 48 points, owing to a Lukaku captaincy and solid returns from the likes of Vardy and Marcos Rojo.

Trev Grant edged into the top five after picking up 49 points. Owning Payet and Bony thwarted his progress, but a captained Vardy, Kolarov and Chris Smalling rescued his Gameweek.

ULTIMATE FANTASY PREMIER LEAGUE

Panna Fricker’s success extends to Ultimate Fantasy Premier League ladder, where she sits in the gold-medal berth. A 60-point Gameweek elevated her to a total score of 932 – good enough for second in the overall rankings.

John Donnelly is hot on the heels of Panna with 928 points, having relinquished the top spot due to a disappointing 30-point haul. Ryan Evans slipped into third position with a score of 920, despite beating the 43-point average by five points.

Michael Wong ended this Gameweek on 915 points after tallying 63 points – no one in the top 50 surpassed that total on the weekend. Dean Howard retains a place in the top five but is now five points adrift (910) of Michael Wong.

To join this league, use the code: 1258-516.

SKY SPORTS FANTASY FOOTBALL

Alan Wood (826 points) has taken a commanding lead at the peak of the Scout League, with Mark William (792) 34 points back in second place. Jeff Payne (783) is clinging onto third by a one-point margin yet has chalked up five more goals than Alan Wood.

We currently sits in fourth spot in the league of leagues as we look to defend our crown. To join this league use the league name: FFScout and the code: 8009000

SUN DREAM TEAM

Jeff Payne (776 points) enjoys a 10-point lead at the top of the table, with Chris Smalling (93) tallying the most points among his 11-man squad. He’s profited greatly from a back five comprised entirely of Manchester United defenders, although there’s work to be done with injuries to Luke Shaw and Payet.

David O Byrne (766 points) fronts the chasing pack. Amassing 103 points, Graziano Pelle has been his star man, while Alexis Sanchez’s 87 points have also been impactful. A 23-point gap between him and Tony H. (743) has opened up, with the latter harvesting 187 points from his two-man strike partnership (Harry Kane and Pelle).

Nigel Dodds (739) has loaded up with seven of Louis van Gaal’s troops, including Wayne Rooney (104 points). He’s fending off the challenge from Tim Mongiat (738), who’s just one point adrift of fourth place and also possesses a team with a distinct Man United flavour.

If Pellegrini hints that Aguero could start against Liverpool, would you get him? Lovren is playing haha

I'll get him if Bony's unavailable and Aguero's in the squad. I cant see them playing 90 minutes with Sterling/Iheanacho with Aguero on the bench.

Regarding the stats conversation on the last page, statistical analysis has been in English football a little longer than some were suggesting. And did you know Big Sam was one of the early adopters?

    1. Jafalad
      • 15 Years
      10 years, 1 month ago

Didn't the English FA conduct a stats survey in the late 80s and they discovered stuff like teams that had 10 shots on target in a game never lost?

I think they also discovered that most goals were scored with 5 passes or less.

      1. Diva
        • 11 Years

There was some analysis in the 80s (or adopted in the 80s) which brought about long ball football I believe. The idea being, if I recall correctly, to get the ball up front as quickly as possible because most goals were scored after only a small number of passes.

        • 12 Years
        10 years, 1 month ago

^ Charles Reep in the 50s and essentially sent England head first into Route One football as he couldn't discern cause from correlation.

When you think about it, gegenpress might produce the same effect - if a team is winning the ball close to the opponent's area they are unlikely to need as many passes to create a goal scoring opportunity on many occasions. Same correlation maybe, but a different cause.

Yep, it feels like a lot of critical thinking was missing or misused around these findings.

      • 12 Years
      10 years, 1 month ago

Oh God, if you want to look at the history in full, Charles Reep started it in the 50s and abused stats and sent English football into the dark ages. Also most stuff, before the emergence of OPTA, can largely be covered by the umbrella of sports science rather specific football analytics.

You'd class Big Sam's work on ball landing positions etc as more sports science than analytics then?

thanks Diva, good read. I tend to underestimate ProZone as they have much less in the public domain. I will say that there are some good bits there from Allardyce but then also a fair bit of sports science especially this rather shitty bit that panders to the English hard work over technical ability outlook:

"They also discovered that they would have an 80 percent chance of not losing if the players outworked their opposition by covering more distance at speeds above 5.5m/s."

Funny, I've been more aware of ProZone than the other systems. Maybe because I was paying more attention 10 years ago than I do now! 😀

Drinkwater anyone? just 4.5 and has created as many chances as Mata has this season.. Ok goal threat too with 15 shots(wont mention any more members stats). Not for rotation/playing every week.. more as a cheap playing backup for injuries

Will probably get him in for Drinkwater.. anyway Mahrez;s time playing behind the strikers is gone. i'd rather Albrighton for 4.9 considering both of em play on the wing.. infact i may get Albrighton instead of Drinky 🙂

    @SEPP BALDERS
Just read your post about Ozil last page.
About BPS, a big adjustment this year, affect BPS: Shot on target: player will be not awarded +BPS for shot on target anymore.

But Shot off target = -BPS

    1. OPTA FPL
      • 14 Years
      10 years, 1 month ago

another big adjustment: you wont get -BPS for losing the ball at all (big reason Costa didnt get many bonus last year, he lost the ball everytime).

and in last seasons, -BPS for losing the ball often adjusted after the games, so BPS (PPI) changed a lots after the games. But this season, it is still changed but not much because they dont get -BPS for that.

Even if Aguero 'actually' plays, even starts next game week, still don't think I'd want in my team until following.

Both matchups could be low scoring, but doubt he comes right in and tears it up.

A goal sure. but a major haul, and that you could get out of your current player like Pelle.

    Noob quesiton

Bought Payet at 7.6 - My current selling price is 7.9 - Current price is 8.2
Should he drop (which he will) to 8.0 lets say, will my current selling price still be 7.9 or will it also decrease gradually as the current price decreases ?
Clarification on price falls according to cp and sp would be greatly appreciated.

    Cheers

      >>If the difference between your Purchase Price (PP) and player's Current Price (CP) is "ODD" then the drop does not affect your selling value.

      >>If the difference between your Purchase Price (PP) and player's Current Price (CP) is "EVEN" then the drop effects your selling value by 0.1

If you have a front 8 of

    Mahrez Mane KDB Sanchez Payet
    Lukaku Pelle Vardy

    would you do
    1) Payet-->4.3mn cheapie
    or

    2) Payet--> Cabaye but then bench whom?

Thinking will take 0.1mn drop from payet by doing transfer late and hope someone of my team is injured to play cabaye....

      Cheers lads! Will do that.

Also a bonus: If i was to go for a 4.5 mid It'd be Drinkwater (3 Lei spots taken) Now Simpson is a possibility if I need to downgrade Janmaat later on... say howard to DDG for example.

Silva imo is as good or even a better option to KDB.

      1. The 12th Man
        • 12 Years

I'm planning Francis > Simpson as I only have 2 Lei. Drinkwater, Vardy.

I suppose it depends if your desperate for funds. As I see it there are 4 decent options for Lei for different reasons
        Mahrez and Vardy for points
Simpson and Drinkwater cheap bench players.

There is more choice around Drinkwaters price than Simpsons so if I had to choose between the 2 it would be Simpson.

I kinda think Kun and Kane are more important than Ozil (since I have Sanchez)....

              What about:

              GW13: Kolarov & Bony -> Ward & Kane
              GW14: KDB & Pelle -> Deulofeu (max 6.9) & Kun [4 points]

                Sanchez, Delefou, Mane, Mahrez, Surman
                Kane Aguero Lukaku

Just personally too weak in the mid for me. But i know you are a strong player on here so probably the right move!

I see the value in Vardy. Lukaku Vardy Kun for me as a front line and boost one mid
