The return of Sergio Aguero and the cruel departure of Dimitri Payet rattled around the heads of the Fantasy Football Scout community this week. As potential turning points in our seasons, they proved the inspiration for a number of community articles and Hot Topics, which also included analysis of Arsenal’s twin midfield threat, captaincy considerations and the revelation of a brand new celebrity Fantasy Football manager. We sift through some of your most notable contributions of the past seven days, whilst checking in on some of the community tournaments in progress.

The Community Articles

Jose’s Magic Omelette returned with yet another priceless community article – this time focusing on the appeal of doubling up on Arsenal’s heavy-hitting midfield duo – Alexis Sanchez and Mersut Ozil. Once again, Jose turned to some stats and bubble charts to illustrate his work which concluded that, while Sanchez’ explosive qualities make him almost indispensable, with Fantasy managers clearing funds for Sergio Aguero, the shift to Ozil may just make sense.

TM45 undoubtedly produced one of the week’s community highlights, as he delivered the first in a two-part series examining the weekly captain conundrum. Part one took a look back at the top performers over the first 12 Gameweeks of the season, assessing their consistency and ability to deliver big points hauls. He’ll follow this up with a look at the predictable nature of returns thus far – hopefully that article is in the works soon.

Elsewhere, DailyFootballPL chose to focus on Manchester United’s blossoming defence, analysing the potential targets on offer, whilst giving his view on spending big on David de Gea and doubling up on Louis van Gaal’s defence, with either Marcos Rojo or Chris Smalling.

Don’t forget, if you’ve got some analysis, scout reports or features brewing, be sure to visit our community section to submit your article.

The Hottest Topics

The international break is always a disconcerting spell for any Fantasy Football manager but at least Parm is on hand to add clarity to the situation. His pair of Hot Topics, listing those Premier League players involved in European internationals and overseas encounters, provides essential reading for those intent on tracking the knocks over the week to come.

Arguably, the most potentially significant injury has already struck home. The community’s reaction to Del Monte’s post breaking the news that Dimiri Payet would be sidelined for up to three months was suitably explosive. Immediately, Greatescape was on hand to map out the potential price drops for the mercurial Frenchman, as we prepared to watch the Payet market collapse.

As Payet’s injury forced a midfield rethink, thoughts turned to team-mate Manuel Lansing as a potential replacement, although Triggerlips appeared skeptical, prompting this Hot Topic on the merits of swooping for the Argentine.

Meanwhile, with Aguero nearing a return for City, we covered off the main dilemma’s surrounding his re-introduction, providing the catalyst for discussion on the strategy and timing of a move for the striker. That was followed by Andy85SWM’s excellent Hot Topic on Aguero’s scoring history following injury, as he looked back on the Argentine’s previous spells of absence and just how quickly he restored himself to goalscoring form.

Arvination would have us believe that there is a very viable alternative to Aguero, as he took time out to question why we’re not elevating Harry Kane to essential status given his current form. Doolittle and AK were certainly in agreement and hoping that the Spurs striker would provide a handy differential amongst the squad surgery surrounding Aguero’s return.

With funds being cleared from our squads, this nudged RoysCallerAnne to offer up an update on the fifth midfielder scenario, promoting the likes of Scott Sinclair and Jesse Lingard as the latest viable options.

Ryan was setting his sights rather higher, laying the foundations for a discussion on the perils of doubling up on Ozil and Sanchez – a subject which was followed by Jose’s Magic Omelette’s aforementioned article later this week. While Ryan was clearly hesitant acquiring twin Gunners, the likes of Zasa el Weon and Rodallegabombaldinho came down on the side of the Arsenal duo – with West Brom’s fragile Hawthorns defence a factor stacked in their favour heading into Gameweek 13

Inspired by TM45’s article on the captaincy issue, Jaffalicious turned up to stir the pot with a timely Hot Topic, asking the community to reminisce on their most memorably armband decision. Clint Dempsey, Luis Suarez, Gareth Bale and, of course, Sergio Aguero all received a name drop, although we have to reserve a special mention for Kings of Lyon’s Kolarov tale.

On a similar comedic theme, an eagle-eyed Doolittle outed Karl Pilkington as the latest celebrity Fantasy Football manager. Ricky Gervais’ one-time sidekick was found revealing his hand on Facebook – he may even be out there lurking on these pages at this very moment.

Finally, we bring you news of the latest community younglings – as Daddy Pig announced the birth of his first born. We shall see if those sleepless night’s translate to some genius 3am transfers as the season progresses. Staying on theme – SKuqi also announced that he has a delivery on the way in the New Year. Congrats all round!

The Community Tournaments

Balders has a lot on his plate right now. He started the week off by bringing us a full breakdown of the first round of his Community Grand Play Offs, with 128 managers edging through to Round Two following a Gameweek 12 average of 46. He then returned with another catch-up, as we near the start of the FIFFSA Five-A-Side World Cup – tonight saw the draw for the Qualifying Rounds and we’ll bring you more on that next week.

Jaffalicious made another appearance this week as he offered an update on the latest results from FFS UEFA Champions League competition.

Finally, in TorresMagic’s Last Man Standing competition, the safety score was 34, which saw 120 players depart and 1511 remain. Entry is open during for the international break, for more details look here.

If you are running a community tournament and would like the latest scores included in future Community Round Ups please email me a brief summary of the current leaders and a link to your league, spread sheet or head to head competition, at jonty@fantasyfootballscout.co.uk.

After their game against the saints a few weeks back, I had a feeling that they would start going with King up front, has much more pace than Murray to get in behind.

Unfortunately, despite many many chances v NEW they couldn't score. So I would say him and Murray will continue rotating.

I have considered him as my bench fodder PAYET replacement though

    Moderation explained

I’ve had one or two requests over the last week for us to explain a bit more about our moderation policy in terms of issues like racism.

Just to be clear a lot of work goes on behind the scenes to address such issues and just because we don’t publicly detail those actions does not mean they are not taking place.

It is important that everyone is aware that we will not tolerate any posting that breaches our terms in conditions, particularly relating to racism and bullying.

To offer some further clarity and due to some of the comments last night to do with the awful events in Paris I thought I’d briefly explain in general terms what happens when such a breach occurs so that hopefully you can be assured that we take such matters seriously.

As soon as such a post is reported to us or seen by a member of the moderation team it is removed. The poster is then blocked from posting. We then seek an assurance by email over the next few days that this will not be repeated. In 99 per cent of cases they give that assurance and they are back in. If they do not they will not be able to post. If they go back on their word then that will lead to a long or in some cases permanent block from posting.

That’s a time consuming process but I think a fair one as it gives a poster a chance to make amends for what in some cases may be an out of character off the cuff remark made in the heat of the moment and makes clear that any repeat will not be tolerated.

So when you see such a post that you believe could be a breach of our terms and conditions please flag it up and we will deal with it as soon as we can. Also be aware that action is being taken.

    Hope that clarifies matters.

Good post Jonty, I think it's the old common sense comes into play, some things can get blown out of proportion and sensationalised, I do believe that 90% of people on here respect each other and that we have a great community. Sometimes it can be hard to realise what is meant as banter and what is a comment that should never have been made. All in all though I think the mods do a good job

I think a warning is fair let's not forget there are a lot of people with different cultures and one word in one country might not be deemed offensive where as in another country it could be, educate the person first and then if it happens again take zero tolerance unless it is blatantly obvious that the comment was made to cause offence.

Absolutely. Everyone entitled to their views be it right or wrong..I don't agree with the two that were posted last night but the only mistake they made was deciding to post it. I have deep views about this situation and none of them are racist, more aimed at the people i belive who are really are to blame (I'm a bit anti mainstream media lol) but i make the choice not to post on an open ff forum. This is where they went wrong and I think they should get a second chance without being ganged up on by anyone.

It's very common practice for issues not to be discussed publicly and handled behind the scenes. Many reasons for that.

What counts as racism? You've explained the process, but its the subjective decision making that causes issues. Drawing any arbitary threshold is guarenteed to cause friction, especially when it rarely appears to be consistent.

As Jonty says, discussions take place constantly but there is fundamentally no way to remove subjectivity from moderation decisions. It requires personal judgment and whilst we'd love to be perfectly aligned in every decision we are not a hive mind so it's simply not possible.

If there's a user who takes genuine offence (expressed amply through the flag system) to a comment they deem to be racist then that needs to be the yardstick.

The flagging system is very helpful in drawing attention to things but it can't be taken as an absolute measure and decision making tool (I remember one comment being flagged for abuse a few years ago for "harshing Croatia" 😉 )

Also, it isn't practical to wait for someone to flag a comment before removing if we believe it to be offensive ourselves. Plenty of comments are taken down before the community have a chance to be offended.

Basically the flag tool is a very useful moderation aid but it still requires judgment whether to act upon it.

Basically I have Bony and Payet out in the latter's case leaking my profit.

I want Kane, Lukaku, Aguero...but also want to keep Vardy so that leaves two places free. Also I think Pelle at home to Stoke is worth keeping.

Also I want to return to a fifth bench fodder mid - I can't be done with these bench pts anymore.

So the issues is quite complex as who I get in for Bony is part of a two week plan that may or may not involve aguero and is almost certainly going to involve at least one hit.

Early thoughts are either a nice and simple Bony to Lukaku. Or Payet and Bony to Kane and a cheap fifth mid for a hit. All depends on whether I beleive Kane or Lukaku is a better captaincy option. Current thinking is it's Kane.

Bony + Pelle + Payet to Lukaku+ Kane+ Gimp over a couple of weeks sounds good to me.

that's the basic gist...although Aguero could come in instead of Lukaku...which would mean abandoning one of Sanchez or KDB...so its even more complex.

I know though that ignoring Kane and or Lukaku for too long will be folly.

Lukaku v Bou though in GWK 14 looks btter currently than Aguero v Sou.

Kane better captain option by far.

I'd take the hit..its a long term move.once done you don't need to over think it. You can always downgrade Kane to lukaku.. Lot harder to upgrade mate

Depends what you want. I like the look of Fletcher at the moment for his lovely string of 2s and 3s.

I think you have to hold fire. I'd like to think that Smalling's knock is minor - we'll see if he immediately returns to United and what happens with the France fixture.

I think this is a very important. Despite Smalling being the only regular part of the United defence, all the chopping and changing hasn't effected their tightness at the back. I'm just wondering how important Smalling's presence is to that

The only chopping and changing was players except smalling . Smalling is the one who gives orders with him gone .We can understand that it might be a little bit wobbly.

This might be over-thinking but in recent lights of attack will the French players be benched or maybe given rest because of incidents. Martial owner here 😛

    Butland Mccarthy
    Kolarov rojo monreal Coleman targett
    Ozil Sanchez kdb Mahrez Westwood
    Vardy Pelle lukaku

2.4 in the bank and 0 FT, plan to get aguero in for Pelle after the Liverpool match. Best way to do it? Downgrade one of my defenders but which one? Also want to get in Moreno and that wouldn't leave enough for aguero? Thoughts?

To bring Aguero in I can afford to keep both Sanchez and KDB, but if I do it would mean dropping Vardy rather than Ighalo (Who to be fair is great value so maybe worth keeping. Hit the post last game!) and Payet would become Deulofeu rather than Ozil.

Which would leave me this front 8

    Mahrez / KDB / Sanchez / Deulofeu + 4.5
    Ighalo / Kane / Aguero

    Or I can do this:

    Mahrez + KDB + Ozil + Deulofeu + 4.5
    Aguero + Kane + Vardy

    Which looks better?

So its either Sanchez/Ighalo or Ozil/Vardy

      The latter in my opinion

If you can keep both KDB and Sanchez then great, but I'd be against shifting Vardy to allow for Kun.

I'm using Ozil as my enabler for Kun. Not shifting Vardy just yet.

Your second one looks better to me regardless of my plans anyway.

I wish I knew for certain that he has, I want Willian as my PAYET replacement but next week need to do mane and Pelle ----> Bench fodder + Aguero but will only be able to afford Stanislas. Not sure whether to risk it or not

Stanislas has definitely impressed, sadly his finishing lets him down. I think he's ahead of Pugh, but we'll only know for sure once both are fit and in the squad.

    Hi all,

    Payet to:
    A) Tadic
    B) Deulofeu
    C) Eriksen
    D) 4.5 bench fodder.

    Team is:
    De Gea (Butland)
    VVD, Bellerin, Janmaat (Dawson, Cathcart)
    Ozil, Sanchez, Payet, KDB, Mahrez
    Lukaku, Vardy (Ighalo)

With 1.6 in the bank. Any suggestions appreciated.
