634x258 Suspensions

Southampton’s Graziano Pelle is the most high profile of this week’s Suspension Tightrope protagonists after collecting a fifth yellow card of the campaign in yesterday’s home loss to Stoke.

The Italian will now miss next weekend’s trip to the Etihad and, although he will return in time for a plum home clash against Villa in Gameweek 15, it’s fair to say the exodus is picking up pace – over 120,000 Fantasy Premier League (FPL) managers have already parted company as we scramble to bring in the likes of Romelu Lukaku and Sergio Aguero.

Pelle earned a late caution for kicking the ball away as his barren run continued – he’s scored just once in the last five Gameweeks. Post-match, Ronaldo Koeman was unhappy over the Italian’s lack of self-restraint:

“It’s all about the frustration of the player. He was not playing well, he was not scoring and the team was not winning, but you have to control yourself always. That’s difficult, we know. But, okay, if it doesn’t happen today maybe it happens next week. It’s always a question if you are one booking from a suspension. It’s always when, when, when it happens. Okay, normally you have to control yourself. He knows. We know. We have to accept it and we will play another [number] nine next week.”

Pelle is one of six players to succumb to a one-match Tightrope ban so far. Liverpool will be devoid of Lucas’ services for their home encounter against Swansea next weekend. Swansea’s Jonjo Shelvey will also miss that Anfield encounter – handed the role in “the hole” at home to Bournemouth, the former Red bagged himself a goal and assist before earning his fifth yellow of the season.

Over at the Hawthorns, Tony Pulis has decisions to make at left-back after Chris Brunt picked up his fifth booking in the Baggies’ home win over Arsenal – the Northern Ireland international now misses next weekend’s trip to West Ham. Mark Noble will also be unavailable for that one after earning his fifth yellow in today’s loss at White Hart Lane, whilst Dele Alli will be absent as Spurs host Chelsea next weekend.

There are now 17 players on this week’s Tightrope, with Gameweek 13 handing us five new entries. Bournemouth playmaker Matt Ritchie, Leicester centre-half Robert Huth, Norwich’s Seb Bassong and Liverpool pair Emre Can and Nathaniel Clyne are the men in question.

Palace duo Wilfried Zaha and Yohan Cabaye, along with Sunderland’s Billy Jones, could yet topple of this week’s Tightrope – all three go into tomorrow’s night’s match at Slehurst Park on four yellows apiece.

In terms of newly-available players, Tottenham will welcome back Erik Lamela for next week’s trip to Stamford Bridge after the Argentine served a one-match ban at home to West Ham earlier today. West Brom will have Gareth McAuley available for their clash with the Hammers after the Irishman missed yesterday’s win over Arsenal.

Slaven Bilic’s side, meanwhile, will be without the services of James Collins once again – the Welshman serves the last of a three-match ban against the Baggies.

he was pushed off the ball too easily - his form and underlying stats are dipping - he has the sort of short term impact you would expect from a high quality signing and played well with more responsibility in aguero's absence - but he is touching down now to find his level for the season now i think - not a bad choice but better ones around -remember city are weak without their spine hart-kompany-toure-silva-aguero if they are fit city will play well and if they are fit de bruye will have less chances and more off ball running to do ....i will sell him for coutinhio if the brazilians scan turns out ok ....

coutinhio's underlying stats are the best - he was given too much responsibility by rodgers at the start of the season - was too young to play a classic no.10 role - now has much more support from team mates under klopp's speed pass and move regime - free to creates the chances rather than call the shots ....

    KDB + Vardy --> Aguero + Coutinho

    That would leave me with:

    Butland l Hennessey
    Kolarov l Bertrand l Moreno l Dawson l Souare
    Coutinho l Sanchez l Tadic l Marhez l Gosling
    Kane l Lukaku l Aguero

I'm surprised people are so glad to shift from Vardy to Aguero. He has scored in ten games on the trot, Aguero never did that. Next up is home to United, last season Vardy scored one and got four assist in that one. Just saying.

Soton are strong defensively so I would rather just do Tadic to Coutinho if you can afford it. Or even do Sanchez to Ozil and Tadic to Coutinho if you feel the need for getting Aguero later on.

You got Deu, you don't want to bench him. Pelle to Kane if you can se your team w/o Aguero. Or Pelle to Aguero, and get a dead cheap MID for KdB or Sanchez to Ozil. I wouldn't get into a "who to bench" situation.

  14. SonOfSteven

Seriously, people looking to get Aguero for Kane or Vardy need to calm down. Kane has scored by far the most PL-goal in 2015 than any other strikers. He's got the form, he's got the fix's, he's cheaper! Vardy has scored in ten games in a row! He's on fire! Last year he scored 21 points home to Man. Utd. He is dead cheap!

Have seen a couple of things on xG ratings lately haven't read into anywhere near enough, but from what I have read, I like the idea of not only taking into account SoT, but the quality of those shots to gain a better understanding for what we could expect from any given player.

I am wondering if anyone's tried this with assist potential as well? Probably a lot harder to model as a lot mare variables and relies on the xG (presumably) of the teams striker(s), but would give a much fuller picture of the FPL points potential for midfielders...

Or maybe I have no idea what I'm on about and should just keep my mouth shut...

I already did Pelle + Bony + Mane + KDB -> Aguero + Kane + Coutinho + Lingard for -8 with panic and anger. I am afraid I will use my WC in case of one injury or Coutinho not returning.

Now waiting for Bolasie (C) brace and Hennesey CS to save my GW, what pathetic!

So even though my defence should have been priority

I sold KDB and Ayoze to Ozil and Kane -4. Is it worth another -4 on Mane to Coutinho/Firmino?

I could play Mane or bench Mane and play Lingard to hold him for AVL the following week?

Man City just conceded 4 at the Emirates, Mane should be fine to play IMO. Also if Company still injured we all know what their backline is like.

Coutinho and/or Firmino good shouts however in front of a nice run of games.

Indeed. I was very close to going Payet > Bolasie, and benching Firmino. But once I saw the leaked lineup with him playing up front, I decided to hold. Good decision in hindsight 😀

Morning Andy, yep green arrow here. Only my 2nd green in 5GWs so pleased to get back up the ranks. Sitting on 17k which isn't too shoddy (for me).

17k is excellent at this stage. Lots of regular players still languishing at poor ranks (myself included) - think most of us are expecting strong finishes still (or at least hoping).

I've only had 1 green arrow in 5 and that's this week - could still lose it after tonight, but hoping ownership in this game + autosubs aren't too bad

Cheers. I'm expecting some of the regulars on here to turn things around when the DGWs come into play - a bit of experience needed to negotiate those I think. Hope your green flag remains tonight. Surely it will!!

Kane captain helped quite a bit. he boosted the Lukaku/Vardy/Ozil/Coutinho points to give me a nice chunky tasty green arrow.

      Go me!! 🙂

Nearly in that top 10k now

Nice - who did you get Coutinho for? I've got KDB, Sanchez, Ozil, Mahrez and wondering if Coutinho is becoming a good move for Sanchez, but surely not!?

I had Coutinho for the past 5 weeks. I used my transfer for the game week just gone to get Lukaku for Pelle, was a bit worried with Pelle at home but couldn't ignore Lukaku. VERY pleased I did.

Now I just have the Agueroless issue to get around in my head. I can't sell Lukaku/Kane/Vardy right now.

My midfield is the same as yours but I have Coutinho for Mahrez. And you can't sell Mahrez right now.

Agree - can't sell Mahrez, but well done on the Coutinho move. I've got the same front 3 as you and not considering Aguero right now - there's no need with 3 in form strikers.

            1. buffrey

So in conclusion we've pretty much got the same offensive line up but I've got Coutinho for your Mahrez. We'll call that a score draw 🙂

You're defence is probably shading mine with the extra Coutinho - Mahrez money.

I've still got a wildcard but am struggling to use it at the moment. 2 FT's this week too. I'll tweak the defence I think.

I ended up captaining Lukaku as I said on the Scoutcast but Kane was tempting. Only ended up missing out on one point in the end.

Yes. always had faith in Kane, but after Lukaku's points I was wondering if it would be nice for Kane to pick up a pre game knock as Lukaku VC and Gosling first on bench..

However Super Kane does it again. Streaky form player, and he's in the middle of a streak and has form... Essen.... I'm not going to say it. 🙂

Looking at a hjt. Mane to Ozil/Firmino (the latter allows me the cash to do Ighalo - Aguero in 2/3).

And then either Davies or McCarthy out for a Palace/Stoke defender. Any thoughts?

Ok so with KDB dropping this week and Lukaku an Barkley rising again, I'll need to act fast. Worth doing Kdb and Ighalo to Lukaku and Barkley for -8? I'd like to wait out for ighalos fixtures but won't be able to afford it after drops/rises.

    1. Kurtinho
