Our Wednesday Weekly Shop regular is rolled out this evening, as we assess the player lists of our partner games to pinpoint the likely targets that will make up our weekend lineups.

The player analysis is split into two sections: I’ll break down the key targets that no squad can do without in “Better Buys”, before seeking out those one-shot “Poundstretcher” prospects that can provide us points, whilst freeing up funds.

For this week’s selection, we’re scanning the players lists in our two partner games – FantasyBet and Premier Punt.

Better Buys

Manuel Pellegrini will be looking closely at his defence after the 4-1 rout against Liverpool. Joe Hart (FantasyBet 5.5m, Premier Punt 8.8m) was the only member of the backline to shine, making six saves to keep the score relatively respectable, though with Nicolas Otamendi surely set to return and Vincent Kompany edging towards a comeback, City could be a little more resolute this time around, given that visitors Southampton are missing top scorer Graziano Pelle due to suspension.

Despite his defensive lapse leading to Jermain Defoe’s winning goal on Monday night, . Scott Dann (FantasyBet 5m, Premier Punt 7.8m) remains capable of picking up points at both ends of the pitch. Opponents Newcastle visit Selhurst Park having scored just twice on the road in six outings, making a double-up with Wayne Hennessey (FantasyBet 4m, Premier Punt 5.5m) a viable tactic as Alan Pardew looks to get one over his former club.

Philippe Coutinho (FantasyBet 8m, Premier Punt 11.8m) has four goals and an assist in Liverpool’s last three matches, demonstrating Jurgen Klopp’s positive influence on the Brazilian. If fit, a home tie against a Swansea side that have been lacklustre in recent weeks offers a chance to add to that record, particularly when there are signs that the Brazilian is striking up a highly effective partnership with compatriot Roberto Firmino (FantasyBet 8.5m, Premier Punt, Forward 11.5m) for the Merseysiders.

Romelu Lukaku, Harry Kane and Jamie Vardy have all been in excellent form of late, which has somewhat kept Olivier Giroud’s (FantasyBet 9m, Premier Punt 12.3m) recent exploits off the radar. The Frenchman has four goals in five league matches for Arsenal and, given that he has scored in four consecutive away outings, a visit to Norwich makes the Gunners striker a differential worth considering.

Poundstretchers

After an inauspicious start to the season, Jack Butland (FantasyBet 4.5m, Premier Punt 6.8m) now has a formidable five shut-outs in six appearances for Stoke. The keeper travels to a Sunderland side struggling to find an attacking edge in front of their own fans – the Wearsiders have managed only 58 attempts at home so far, the joint worst record in the league. Only Costel Pantilimon (54) has made more saves than the Potters’ number one (51), so a goalless draw would not be a surprise here.

Alberto Moreno (FantasyBet 5m, Premier Punt 7.5m) offers a secure route into the Liverpool backline as they welcome a Swansea team that have failed to net in three of their last five – only Aston Villa (22) have had less than the Swans 23 shots in the box over that run. As highlighted in the Scout Squad article, the left-back is providing promising numbers, with his frequency of key passes (one every 40 minutes) the best in the league for defenders.

Yohan Cabaye (FantasyBet 6.5m, Premier Punt 7.9m) and Yannick Bolasie (FantasyBet 6.5m, Premier Punt 7.6m) may have blanked against Sunderland but they still look to be worth investment against Newcastle at those prices – Palace fired 19 attempts last Monday and were unlucky not to find the net. Another budget midfield option with a potentially profitable home fixture is Manuel Lanzini (FantasyBet 5.5m, Premier Punt 7.9m). The Argentine’s consolation at Spurs took his tally to three goals in the last five Gameweeks ahead of a home encounter with West Brom.

Watford’s Odion Ighalo (FantasyBet 5m, Premier Punt 7.4m) is the stand out striker in the budget category this week. The Nigerian travels to Aston Villa with seven goals and three assists to his name already and is heavily involved in most of the Hornets’ attacking play. Given that Villa have conceded 11 times in their last five outings, Ighalo looks a likely source of points once again.

These are the contenders for my weekly contest lineups heading into the weekend. I’ll return on Friday with a further assessment of this week’s partner games – FantasyBet and Premier Punt, as I continue my quest for profit in the 2015/16 campaign.

🙁 I hope that we will get some before deadline. I want to do KDB + Vardy --> Coutinho + Kun for -4pts. I have the exact money.

What do you think of this transfer?

Definitely a transfer that could easily backfire. I don't see the reasoning for taking out a striker on an unbelievable scoring spree for one that is just back from injury.

KDB could very easily outscore Coutinho who tends to frustrate in 'easier' fixtures

The thing is that I have the exact money to do it, and Kun will probably rise soon and I won't be able to afford him. My other 2 strikers are Kane and Lukaku, who I do not want to get rid atm.

That's fair enough. Kun is more important in the long term and that is quite a front line to have. It probably is worth the risk in that case

No need to get rid of Vardy for a hit. At least give him a game against decent opposition first.

    Early captaincy question?

    A: Kun (SOT)
    B: Kane (CHE)
    C: Lukaku (Bou)
    D: Sanchez (nor)

    I'm leaning towards A or C

With Company confirmed out, I'm second guessing the benching of Tadic. Who would you bench from the following?

De Bruyne . Deulofeu . Mahrez . Özil . Tadic
    Kane . Vardy . Lukaku

I need to free up some cash to get Kane next week

Which would be a better option to do that:

Ha! Yeah, it's been a very weird drop in form from City's attack. Only three goals in their last four 😯 Very weird change of pace. Surely Agüero & Silva are the answer to City's recent offensive woes, no? I assume it'll be back to the norm with all three of Silva, KdB, & Sterling sharing the pie of goals/assists that come their way.

Ok. This is why it interested me. We have the same front 8 bar Ighalo over Lukaku and our 5th mid

Here is my team. Please, I am not saying its right/better/perfect but i managed to get Lukaku in to a 'similar' team.

            Butland/McCarthy
            Bertrand/ Kolorov/ Moreno/ Richards/ Simpson
            Sanchez/ KDB/ Ozil/ Maherez/ Stanislas
            Aguero/ Vardy/ Lukaku

            0.1 ITB

I have no simple answer but i have sacrificed defense and GK to get this. You need around 3m to make Ig to Luk?

Its spreading your GK and defense (which is nice by the way!) Kolorov to Moreno and DDG down releases enough?

Less needed if you shift Vardy but im not sure on that

The worst part was before Stoke played chelsea away I did Butland -----> DDG (had 2 FT's with no other issues)

Butland has outscored DDG by at least 10 points since then I believe even though DDG had some amazing fixtures. Butland's lucky CS's have cost me.

The thing about Ighalo is, I actually want him the most out of my front 3. He is being overlooked on here and has scored well recently with some tough fixtures! I can see him at least keeping up with Lukaku/Kane over the next few weeks. My TV isn't that great as well.

I recall the Butland to DDG move, we talked on here!
To be fair its unlucky. If you really think Vardy out is good move just release some defence cash, or even GK!

So I bought membership last night and i'm still getting to terms with reading all these stats.

I asked last night, but not many people responded so I'll ask again 🙂

What are the stats that you mainly look at before bringing a player in?

      Goal Threat:

      - Big Chances
      - Shots on Target
      - Shots in the Box
      - Chances from Open Play
and maybe Touches in the Penalty Area

      Creativity:
      - Chances Created
      - Crosses
      - Corners

I don't pay much heed to the chances created when the goals column next to it is overpopulated by zeros. Better having a player with few chances created and nice few goals be they from play, pens or freekicks.

Lies, damn lies and statistics as they say.

I find it difficult to trust an expected goals algorithm. Seems a bit like RMT, does it seriously take fixtures into account?

      1. Eden Hazardous
        • 11 Years
        10 years, 2 months ago

Expected goals does not predict future performances but determines the quality of ALREADY happened chances - meaning past performances

The given xG and xA data are the 'Expected Goals and Assists' from the first 13 matches of the EPL

      2. 42towels
        • 11 Years

I think RMT takes fixtures into account? I've been tracking some players for the last 3-4 weeks on RMT & xG and think combining the two works well.

It would have been a moot exercise if RMT doesnt consider future fixtures 😛

This is where Ryan's point about fixtures matters I think. I Lukaku's xG was influenced by his form in the tough early fixtures. You'd expect his xG to increase now.

(Assuming Caley's model takes all season into consideration, not just last 4 GWs)

Cheaper hardly even worth mentioning when it is a matter of .1 or .2 though, surely. But it's the nailed part which I like. As good as Lingard looks you never know what LVG is seeing or thinking.

Agree with Gosling. Have 2 FT this week and am looking to go Mane to Gosling and Inghalo to Lukaku.

As good as Inghalo has been, I think the extra firepower with Lukaku is worth it considering the nicer fixtures.

Dier stays back, and he gets forward quite a bit.

Despite his position he has more chances from open play than Giroud, Costa, Barkley, Benteke, Mahrez and Sanchez. He's tied with the likes of Mane and Sterling.

Considering his price I quite like him as an FPL option. Great fixtures too.

Getting to a stage where i feel happy with my team, which usually means a low score. Set for this week on

    Butland
    Richards/ Moreno/ Kolorov
    Sanchez/ Ozil/ Mahrez/ KDB
    Aguero (vc)/ Vardy/ Lukaku (C)

    McCarthy Stanislas Bertrand Targett
0 FT 0.1 ITB VC and C may switch

I know foolish to plan too far ahead but have these in mind-
    -Targett to Simpson
-Kolorov to Bellerin/ Spurs if ever rotated
-KDB could be Silva if on form
-Richards to any 4.5, not urgent will prob wait for Jan WC
