Our Wednesday Weekly Shop regular is rolled out this evening, as we assess the player lists of our partner games to pinpoint the likely targets that will make up our weekend lineups.

The player analysis is split into two sections: I’ll break down the key targets that no squad can do without in “Better Buys”, before seeking out those one-shot “Poundstretcher” prospects that can provide us points, whilst freeing up funds.

For this week’s selection, we’re scanning the players lists in our two partner games – FantasyBet and Premier Punt.

Better Buys

Manuel Pellegrini will be looking closely at his defence after the 4-1 rout against Liverpool. Joe Hart (FantasyBet 5.5m, Premier Punt 8.8m) was the only member of the backline to shine, making six saves to keep the score relatively respectable, though with Nicolas Otamendi surely set to return and Vincent Kompany edging towards a comeback, City could be a little more resolute this time around, given that visitors Southampton are missing top scorer Graziano Pelle due to suspension.

Despite his defensive lapse leading to Jermain Defoe’s winning goal on Monday night, . Scott Dann (FantasyBet 5m, Premier Punt 7.8m) remains capable of picking up points at both ends of the pitch. Opponents Newcastle visit Selhurst Park having scored just twice on the road in six outings, making a double-up with Wayne Hennessey (FantasyBet 4m, Premier Punt 5.5m) a viable tactic as Alan Pardew looks to get one over his former club.

Philippe Coutinho (FantasyBet 8m, Premier Punt 11.8m) has four goals and an assist in Liverpool’s last three matches, demonstrating Jurgen Klopp’s positive influence on the Brazilian. If fit, a home tie against a Swansea side that have been lacklustre in recent weeks offers a chance to add to that record, particularly when there are signs that the Brazilian is striking up a highly effective partnership with compatriot Roberto Firmino (FantasyBet 8.5m, Premier Punt, Forward 11.5m) for the Merseysiders.

Romelu Lukaku, Harry Kane and Jamie Vardy have all been in excellent form of late, which has somewhat kept Olivier Giroud’s (FantasyBet 9m, Premier Punt 12.3m) recent exploits off the radar. The Frenchman has four goals in five league matches for Arsenal and, given that he has scored in four consecutive away outings, a visit to Norwich makes the Gunners striker a differential worth considering.

Poundstretchers

After an inauspicious start to the season, Jack Butland (FantasyBet 4.5m, Premier Punt 6.8m) now has a formidable five shut-outs in six appearances for Stoke. The keeper travels to a Sunderland side struggling to find an attacking edge in front of their own fans – the Wearsiders have managed only 58 attempts at home so far, the joint worst record in the league. Only Costel Pantilimon (54) has made more saves than the Potters’ number one (51), so a goalless draw would not be a surprise here.

Alberto Moreno (FantasyBet 5m, Premier Punt 7.5m) offers a secure route into the Liverpool backline as they welcome a Swansea team that have failed to net in three of their last five – only Aston Villa (22) have had less than the Swans 23 shots in the box over that run. As highlighted in the Scout Squad article, the left-back is providing promising numbers, with his frequency of key passes (one every 40 minutes) the best in the league for defenders.

Yohan Cabaye (FantasyBet 6.5m, Premier Punt 7.9m) and Yannick Bolasie (FantasyBet 6.5m, Premier Punt 7.6m) may have blanked against Sunderland but they still look to be worth investment against Newcastle at those prices – Palace fired 19 attempts last Monday and were unlucky not to find the net. Another budget midfield option with a potentially profitable home fixture is Manuel Lanzini (FantasyBet 5.5m, Premier Punt 7.9m). The Argentine’s consolation at Spurs took his tally to three goals in the last five Gameweeks ahead of a home encounter with West Brom.

Watford’s Odion Ighalo (FantasyBet 5m, Premier Punt 7.4m) is the stand out striker in the budget category this week. The Nigerian travels to Aston Villa with seven goals and three assists to his name already and is heavily involved in most of the Hornets’ attacking play. Given that Villa have conceded 11 times in their last five outings, Ighalo looks a likely source of points once again.

These are the contenders for my weekly contest lineups heading into the weekend. I’ll return on Friday with a further assessment of this week’s partner games – FantasyBet and Premier Punt, as I continue my quest for profit in the 2015/16 campaign.

Actually Pool's performance looked scintillating but I feel it was more a case of Citeh's poor performance. They were dismal tbh.

I am waiting a couple of games before getting these Pool players but have dumped Sagna and Navas. I love Klopp and his system but I want to see back to back performances like that and not judge them beating a pants Citeh. ( good as it was )

Gosling's SoT% is 16.7%. Out of 12 shots, only 2 hit the target over the last 4. Won't score very well. Will probably be around Sanchez's score.

I think you need to actually read peoples' replies thoroughly before you make judgements or form an opinion. Rather than just carelessly spouting nonsense.

I've explained the model, and reasons why players have lower and higher scores. Not going to repeat myself for the umpteenth time, doesn't seem to be registering.

Klopp has talked him up so much & he's been eyeing him up since he was at Hoffenheim. I think he's an integral part of the squad, his best position is through the middle & preferably in the hole in a 4231. With Klopp switching between a 423 & 433/21 it does cast some doubts, overall I think Lallana the most expendable from the XI. Seeing as Hendo can do his job as effectively if not moreso & offers better end product to boot. Tbh I think he's only started for Klopp on the pure basis that key players have been injured, his press has been good but really offers very little qualit gong forward as oppose to Firm, Cout, Hendo, Tekkers & Studge.

I think this article highlights Klopp's options pretty well - http://www.thisisanfield.com/2015/11/emergence-of-attacking-options-provides-jurgen-klopp-with-a-welcome-headache/ - I'm starting to come to terms with the idea that Klopp may play just one of Benteke & Sturridge fighting for the top spot, seeing as I'm unsure if Sturridge fits into Klopp's idea of a winger in either his 4231 or 433/21 system.

Based off form & his praise for Firm & Cout, I would think Klopp would stick to either the formation that destroyed MCity tactically, with Hendo dropping back to midfield, Sturridge up top & Firm in behind on the left (Lallana left out). I really just can't see Klopp benching Firm & Cout, they've been integral to the attacks dynamic & fast-breaks off errors the opposition makes from the gegenpress. The two Brazilans with Sturridge are probably the two best equipped to exploit a counter attack & the way their chemistry has been, I can't see any good reason for Klopp dropping them imo.

Hopefully it's a 4231 that Klopp rolls out as a default for less tactical heavy matches vs weaker opponents, that's probably the most secure formation for Firm in my view.

        2 things with this.
        1. Klopp has highly praised all these different players at some stage over the last few weeks so I wouldn't read to much into that.
        2. For home games there will still be the gegenpress but the counter-attacking opportunities are likely to be fewer as teams aren't going to go to Anfield and over-commit players to attack.

yesterday i asked if Alexis --> Countinho was a move worth considering.

I got mostly No's.Im surprised at this call as countinho is in sublime form + a home tie vs swansea.

Why the faith in alexis after blanking in 4 consecutive gw's

I havent been able to see much of arsenals games as iv been travelling a lot lately.

No. The troubles weren't there. The centre-backs just watched as Cout/Firm ran circles around them.

"He's a skilled player. I'd say a year ago for a few months for sure he was the best player in the Bundesliga," Klopp said.

"From the first day everyone could see he can become a very, very good player... when I heard Liverpool took him, I thought 'good choice'.

"He needed time when he came in but... he's strong with the ball, physically strong, fast in a good football way, gets his body between opponent and ball.

"So he is an important player for us and I hope he can play tomorrow."

    Morning DZ

can't sleep, I've taken a hit, very little money and my teams in a mess.

What next for this lot (after this GW) ???

    Myhill
    Rojo, Bellerin, Williams (Simpson, Richards)

    Ozil, Sanchez, KDB, Mahrez (Westwood)

    Aguero, Vardy, Lukakaaaaa

Maybe Williams out for Walker, Dier or Moreno ?

    Or

KDB out for Couthino to release some £s?

I was going to get Couthino this week (KDB out) to fund Aguero, but I choose to lose Sagna in the end.

In hindsight this maybe a bad move as it weakens my defence.

But Sagna could now be a rotation risk due to Zabs return.

I'd agree that Williams is the weakest link here & the most detrimental right now as he's your 3rd defender. I'd hold steady with KdB for now & play him out, there could be a lot of good substance there with el Kun back to finish all those dangerous crosses both Bony & Sterling have failed to finish these past weeks. Plus, I'd certainly wouldn't want to go in with no sort of MCity attack into this match.

I'd do Williams to either Moreno or a Spurs defender.

i made the classic coutinho to mane mistake before the Chelsea game.
I need Liverpool cover but I'm concerned about Benteke/Sturridge/Henderson returning and how it'll impact on Coutinho/Firmino minutes or starts. Also despite what he says will Klopp set up his sides differently for home and away games.
If I did KDB to Coutinho/Firmino would I have to also upgrade Westwood as my 5th midfielder to protect against rotation?

Ah hadn't realized, yeah maybe the more sensible thing then. Still though (SWA, new, WBA, wat, LEI, sun) vs Mané's (mci, AVL, cry, TOT, ARS, whu), think he's more than capable of outscoring Mané both in the long & short term imo. Especially considering Saints very poor offensive form of late with 4 goals in 4 games vs pretty poor defenses apart from Pool (one goal was from a tadic pen). Pretty bad underlying stats as well compared to Liverpool as well these last four.

    Anti-Stats, Fans Forum’s

I thought I’d look at fans forums after being blasted by stats for the past week. It’s just another way to look at things. Last week, Southampton fans weren’t looking forward to the Stoke match citing that they find it hard to break down teams like Stoke – which happened.

So here’s what the fans think:
    - Watford fans think they might draw with Villa, Villa will go all guns blazing (if they have any) so Watford will have to suck up the pressure and nick a win. But a draw is ok with them
    - Spurs fans are happy that Zouma isn’t playing because when they have 2 DMs against Spurs it would be hard. But Terry is out and Zouma will have to play CB leaving a midfield that hardworking Spurs midfielders can overrun (Dier, Mason, Dembele). They seem quite confident of a win but are worried about their flight to Azerbaijan on Thursday.
    - Norwich fans don’t think they have a chance against Arsenal, they will have to sick back and defend and maybe even double up on Sanchez. Pretty much play for a low score loss with a bit of luck up the field could get them a point
    - Man City fans are distraught. 2 cleansheets in 15 games still missing Kompany and now Hart. They say Southampton is a team they struggle against. Personally, I think that will be a cracker of a match, loads of goals
    - Villa fans are obviously disheartened. They need a win against Watford. A draw is on the cards.
    - Everton/Bournemouth/Arsenal fans haven’t discussed their games
    - Palace fans were discussing how poor Newcastle are and they have to get a win. Bad record against Newcastle though.
    - Leicester have a huge 13 page thread for their match against Man United. They are having fun but they expect a frustrating game. Though someone put a bet on for 5-3
    - Liverpool fans aren’t happy about their home record, but if Swansea go to Anfield and try to play football they will get beaten heavily.
    - WBA and WHU fans think Pulis will outfox Bilic. But could still end up goalless.
    - Sun Stoke game will be a tricky game

    Conclusion
The reason I did this is to see if there is anything we are not expecting. Most games should go the way we expect though Watford probably won’t score many. However, the biggest upset could be Southampton.

    That’s what the fan’s think

I went Hazard after watching him play. Think it's a mistake I'm almost committed to for these next few GWs - probably a rookie mistake.
Problem with Chelsea is up front and that is impacting on their midfield returns. I hadn't realized that Costa's returns from the 2nd half of last season (albeit with injuries) were also pretty ordinary at best.

Think I'd go KdB to the Kun, imo. Lads just an unstoppable force right now, this game vs Norwich may be a right thrashing & with Özil spearheading the attack I'd be wary of the damage he could cause. Great team overall though.

      I'm captaining Lukaku.

Don't have Aguero, personally I think he will be on the bench and get 20 minutes.

Don't fancy Sanchez with Walcott out. He gets his best points with Wally in the team, because he creates space for him to work with.

In which case Giroud is likely to be fatigued from the extra work and is unlikely to have a repeat performance this weekend. Given he barely manages to do it where he has 1 game per week, I doubt his ability to do it for 2.

Bloody Kompany. He is going to have to leave my team this week, wanted to sell Williams though.

If I sell Kompany for (probably) Rose, that will mean I will have to play either Williams or Francis. Back like looks like this:

    Kolarov • Kompany (!) • Williams • Francis • Gomez (!)

Never has had the opportunity to sell Gomez, was planning to do so next week though. Would you do Kompany out for free, or Kompany and one of Williams/Gomez out for a hit?

I'm looking to Rose and Moreno to come in.

Cheers. The way I see it, I could benefit either way. If the 2 I bring in keep a CS, I am up. If not, I've still got rid of some of the deadwood.

Williams has some awful fixtures and I don't want to play him or Francis over the next few games. Kompany is likely to be out for a few weeks.

Captaining Lukaku vs Bournemouth so will be hoping that Francis gets minus points, if I were to play one of them it would be Williams. As a Pool fan I really don't want to have Williams when we play Swansea. He needs to go, but he always finds a way of staying in my team.

Bony is a solid striker, just in Aguero's shadow atm. He needs minutes and he will score goals. We saw that at Swansea.
