With Gameweek two of the inaugural FIFFSA 5-a-side world cup now completed, the groups are now starting to take shape, apart from UEFA group B where each team has recorded a single victory. With another five matches to go, there is still everything to play for in the tournament.

Gameweek 2 Review

The Cayman Islands shook off a first week defeat by posting the highest team total of 377. This was compared to an overall average team score of 319.

Uruguay once again won the award for the worst benching decision. This week they benched Riazor who, was not only their highest scoring player, but also the highest scoring player in the tournament with 94pts. Luckily for them, this wasn’t enough to prevent them from defeating Ecuador 366 to 323.

Away the pitch, Oghash wins the award for the best press conference revealing the underhand tactics some teams will go to ahead of the tournament matches.

Gameweek 3 Preview

Looking forward to Gameweek 3 of the competition and gameweek 15 of FPL for the season, we see some interesting matchups.

The standout fixture of the week will be the trans-Tasman affair between Australia and New Zealand. Australia, led by Jeanz have started the tournament with two wins while New Zealeand, led by Deadzone regular Innsie, are rooted to the bottom of the table with 0 points.

Despite their victory in the opening gameweek, Iceland followed the result up by posting the lowest team total in gameweek 2. They now face off against San Marino who, despite being hotly tipped at the start of the tournament, have lost their opening two fixtures.

Lastly, two FIFFSA members will be facing off at the weekend when USA take on their arch rivals Cuba. With 0 points so far, USA will be desperate for the victory but up against the 3rd most experienced team in the tournament, it won’t be an easy task.

A detailed summary of this can be found on the player history tab which includes the rank history of every player in the tournament at our team sheets and tables spreadsheet.

Further Information

A quick reminder of the format. Each Gameweek teams will pick a team of five players to go head to head with their opposite nation. The match will then be decided by the aggregate score of each teams’ Gameweek scores after hits have been accounted for. This week’s games can be found here.

Captains are required to submit their team sheets to fiffsa.exec@gmail.com by 2300 (GMT) by the Friday of each Gameweek otherwise their sixth player will be automatically benched.

Live scorecards will be up shortly before the early kick-off on Saturday at our score centre spreadsheet.

If you have any further queries, feel free to ask below in the comments or email us at: fiffsa.exec@gmail.com

Enjoy the tournament; this is the FIFFSA 5-A-Side World Cup. Accept no imitations.

Next week can every team remember to mail in their substitute. If no substitute is received the player who gets benched is the one who was benched the previous week. If you mail it prevents any chance of a mix up.

Oh whaaaaaat? So who is benched for Portugal this week? On the scoreboard it says Gazpilicueta and he wasn't 6th last week.

Also why hasn't UEFA group B been updated to this week's fixtures on the live score centre?

Yeah we're ditching the "bench from last gameweek" rule as we've ballsed up the implementation so far.

not sure if this is too harsh but surely the punishment for not submitting teams should be a little more than benching the same player as last round, especially if a team continues to do so. Maybe a -4 to their score or something?

I think it would be in the interest of fairness and I mean if a team fails to submit a team more than 3 weeks on the trot then they should have their highest scoring player benched or perhaps a -4 off total score. These competitions are great and people put a lot of time/effort into organising and participating in them.

I think if a team is made up of people who have no interest in the tourney and never submit a team, never post about it and probably wouldn't even know if they won the tourney they should receive something like a -4 off their score...maybe I am being too harsh and am not suggesting a change of rules at this stage, just a suggestion for future tourneys perhaps?

or something a little less dramatic, like if a team doesnt email a submission the player with the highest score the previous week will be auto benched.

Wow that's draconian... think it should be left to individual teams to manage themselves no need to punish people any more for being more or less "casual".

          1. djenzio
            • 11 Years
            10 years, 2 months ago

it's nothing to do with being casual

the issue is when individual teams aren't managing themselves, week in week out. anyway that's why I said I know it's very harsh and am in no way criticising the way the tourney is being run.

We did discuss this matter before the competition and we were split on whether we should have punishments or not tbh.

I think the overall feeling was we were trying to get as many people as possible involved and telling everyone there would be penalties would not help this. I do wish everyone would get there subs in on time. If we have updated the list of subs in theory it gives the team submitting a late sub a chance to know more about their competition.

You should be. Wanted Gazpilicueta to be benched as he didn't send me his teamsheet.

The rules that were sent around suggested that if I didn't send a teamsheet in that he would be benched as our 6th player and that's where he currently is on the live scoreboard.

Looks like Gazpilicueta is on the bench. Someone must have changed this already. There has clearly been a mix up regarding this part of the competition.

It is best to send in your teamsheets each week if at all possible. The deadline is 2300 each week you just need to put your subs name in it.

I haven't worked out the scores difference but the differentials remaining between The Seyxchelles and Djibouti are:

    Seychelles

    Coleman x 1
    Coutinho x 2
    Bolasie x 3
    Firmino x 1
    Barkley x 1
    Sturridge x 1

    Djibouti

    Benteke x 1

I think Djibouti have a fairly substantial lead so I think this may just be a bit too much to ask.

If the current scores are right and assuming 2 appearance points each per player, I make the difference 18 with us having 8 extra scoring opportunities. That's do able.

If Coutinho doesn't play we lose a player (as Badger had Aguero c Coutinho vc) We also have an extra 6 points of Simpson coming off of his bench.

    South Africa v Zimbabwe update:

After autosubs the score is South Africa 229 - 261 Zimbabwe

    Differentials remaining are:
South Africa: Moreno, Coutinho x2, skrtel, Firmino (c), Firmino, and McCarthy
Zimbabwe: Barkley x3, Ward, and Janmaat

If Coutinho and McCarthy do not play South Africa get Francis x2 for 12 points and Lloris for 3 points. This would make the score South Africa 241 - 261 Zimbabwe.

      Update to the update:
Ignore the above update as I calculated it with the wrong Zimbabwe player benched. 😳

After autosubs the score is South Africa 229 - 251 Zimbabwe

      Differentials remaining are:
South Africa: Moreno, Coutinho, Stones, Skrtel, Firmino x3, and McCarthy
Zimbabwe: Coleman, Bolasie, Lukaku, Sturridge, Barkley x2, Ward, and Janmaat

If Coutinho and McCarthy do not play South Africa get Francis x2 for 12 points and Lloris for 3 points while Zimbabwe get Williams for 1 point. This would make the score South Africa 241 - 251 Zimbabwe.

Chile vs Argentina: Update with remaining differentials. I'm pretty sure it's down to this

Chile - Firmino(x3), Elliot, Lukaku(x2), Bolasie. +25 points (Simpson with 6 points autosubs Agüero)

    Argentina - Wijnaldum, Sturridge(c), Barkley.

    Close tie guys!

      * add Evans for us as an autosub for Lanzini. So that's +27 points

Seychelles seems to be in a complete chaos at the moment because they are talking about our Benteke's and Deeney's up there. I can guarantee we don't have either one of those so I don't know which countrys teams you guys are looking at.

    Here are the differentials:

    Seychelles 183p:

    Moreno 2
    Sturridge 2
    Bolasie 2
    Elliot
    Coleman
    Firmino
    Coutinho 2 (Mahrez 21 + Cedric 4)
    Agüero (Simpson 6)

    Djibouti 224p:

    Lukaku 2

If Coutinho is a no-show you guys are only 10 points behind us and we need Lukaku to go mental.

    France 240pts

Since france get ddg if mc carthy doesnt play it'll probably be more like this:

      Montenegro 258pts
      Lukaku

      France 246pts
      Deulofeu
      Firmino
      Ward

A quick flick through the team's makes it more than obvious that Croatia have murdered Wales this gameweek - auto subs of Cresswell and Mahrez plus god knows how many Barkleys and Lukakus have swamped us. Well played.

We're either really sad and check each team one-by-one or even sadder and wrote an excel script to do it for us 😛

If you want to give me your email address I can send you a copy of Seychelles team differentials spreadsheet.

Find your league in the score centre tabs here:

          https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1kU-F2EmopAVZ2vh3hLSuLhqxdY9IMQ6q4Pz3WDIKn5c/edit

then the underlined numbers next to each player link to their fpl ID

up in the main article, press the green link ("spreadsheet") at the end of the sentence:

"Live scorecards will be up shortly before the early kick-off on Saturday at our score centre spreadsheet".

at the bottom of the spreadsheet press the tab that corresponds to your confederation/group...a list of the teams will appear....if you press down on any fpl team number a link tab will appear too the corresponding team...start counting 😉

Carrier Pigeon Message 642b-01 _____ : North Korean Eyes Only. :

I have been secretly filling the hold of our beloved "Wing Wong Winehouse" with provisions to set sail back to French Polynesia, and defect to one of the uninhabited islands in the unlikely event of our defeat.

Fellow team members will have to paddle out to our trusty clipper in the dead of night, where we will be met by Kim Rolls Reus, three goats and ten chickens.

Akeem Jung-Il is reminded we are also fielding captain Kim Kong Kone as a last stand against these pesky Malays and their anti-football. There is still hope, but I trust you are all making your own arrangements if necessary.

Tomorrow may the full moon be shadowed and the wind in our favour

As suspected the Rice God has punished the Koreans for fielding Firmino and co by helping Newcastle to a 2-0 win. As much as Kone is tauted as their saviour, unless the Koreans do some kind of offering to the Rice God by tonight, im sure Kone will suffer the same fate tomorrow.

      All hail the Rice God,

As our atheistic nature warrants, we will not be praying to any false Gods, as scientific analysis of tomorrows game dictates an absolute goal fest with another goal from the fearsome Funes of Argentina.
