We take our regular trip to the Weekly Shop this evening, assessing the player lists of our partner games to pinpoint the likely targets that will make up our weekend lineups.

The player analysis is split into two sections: I’ll break down the key targets that no squad can do without in “Better Buys”, before seeking out those one-shot “Poundstretcher” prospects that can provide us points, whilst freeing up funds.

For this week’s selection, we’re scanning the players lists in our two partner games – FantasyBet and Premier Punt.

Better Buys

West Ham’s lengthy injury list looks good news for Stoke’s prospects ahead of their head-to-head at Upton Park this weekend. With Manuel Lanzini joining Dimitri Payet and Diafra Sakho on the sidelines, the Potters will be optimistic of registering a fifth clean sheets in six away matches. Jack Butland (FantasyBet 4.5m, PremierPunt 6.7m) is averaging over four saves per appearance on the road and looks poised to earn the points once again.

Newcastle have scored the fewest goals (three) on the road this campaign and roll up to White Hart Lane, where Spurs boast the second-best home defence in the top-flight. A goal, an assist and five bonus points over the last three Gameweeks has launched Toby Alderweireld (FantasyBet 5m, PremierPunt 8.2m) to second in the overall defenders leaderboard, just two points behind Chris Smalling (FantasyBet 6.5m, PremierPunt 9m).

After the Tuesday night Champions League victory, Kevin de Bruyne (FantasyBet 10m, PremierPunt 10.1m) has now reached twenty appearances for Manchester City, scoring nine goals and serving up as many assists over a bright start that has confirmed his Fantasy pedigree. The Belgian scored the opener and created the following two goals in the 3-1 win over Southampton in City’s previous home match and, with Sergio Aguero potentially missing once again, he looks the safe option as they welcome managerless Swansea side to the Etihad.

Harry Kane (FantasyBet 9.5m, PremierPunt 13.6m) has not scored in the last two but a home tie against a defensive Chelsea side and a trip to the Hawthorns were not fixtures that promised much. Prior to those two blanks, the frontman scored seven goals in four matches and the visit of a Newcastle outfit that has conceded 14 times in their last four away matches provides a chance to return to form.

Poundstretchers

Leicester have been quietly improving at the back in recent weeks on their march to the top of the table. Kasper Schmeichel (FantasyBet 4.5m, PremierPunt 6.8m) now has three clean sheets in six matches and will not be fazed by the visit of a disjointed Chelsea team that have scored a single goal over the last four Gameweeks.

Sunderland’s upturn in form, with two wins and a pair of clean sheets in the last three Gameweeks, is partly down to Sam Allardyce’s move to a three-man backline. The new system has allowed Patrick van Aanholt (FantasyBet 5m, PremierPunt 7.7m) to operate as a wing-back and serve up a goal and assist in four appearances under the new manager, suggesting he could still earn attacking points should in-form visitors Watford find the net.

We retain our faith in Alberto Moreno (FantasyBet 5m, PremierPunt 7.7m) and Dele Alli (FantasyBet 5m, PremierPunt 7.8m) after selecting both as budget options last week. The former was unlucky to have a goal wrongfully disallowed at Newcastle, while Alli netted from the number ten position in Spurs’ draw at the Hawthorns. Both remain as cheap enablers and, with home fixtures against West Brom and Newcastle respectively, could get amongst the points this weekend.

Stoke’s impressive season was lacking in goal threat but in Marko Arnautovic (FantasyBet 6m, PremierPunt 8.5m forward) and Xherdan Shaqiri (FantasyBet 7m, PremierPunt 7.8m) they have a burgeoning partnership of creative talent that provided two quality first half strikes against Man City. A trip to West Ham, who have kept a single clean sheet in seven at Upton Park, offers the duo an opportunity to link up effectively once again. A brace for Arnautovic meant the Austrian now has five goals and two assists, whilst Shaqiri’s pair of assists suggests the Swiss international is finally settling at the Britannia.

Rather than repeat our praise of Odion Ighalo (FantasyBet 5m, PremierPunt 7.5m) and Troy Deeney (FantasyBet 5.5m, PremierPunt 7.5m) every week, we’re going to propose a couple of inexpensive forward differentials. Arouna Kone (FantasyBet 5m, PremierPunt 7.6m) may be overshadowed by the new-found consistency of Romelu Lukaku (FantasyBet 8m, PremierPunt 11.6m) but the Ivorian is capable of substantial scores, as evidenced by his 20-point haul at home to Sunderland in Gameweek 11. An explosive forward with five goals and four assists to his name, he looks worth considering at those prices as the Toffees head to Norwich.

Crystal Palace’s strikers are still yet to score this campaign but Connor Wickham (FantasyBet 6m, PremierPunt 6.9m) could soon break that duck after recently returning from injury. The summer signing has now started the last three and his pair of assists in the previous home clash indicates his improvement ahead of the visit of a Southampton side that have conceded 10 times in their last three league and cup matches.

These are the contenders for my weekly contest lineups heading into the weekend. I’ll return on Friday with a further assessment of this week’s partner games – FantasyBet and Premier Punt, as I continue my quest for profit in the 2015/16 campaign.

    Morning All.
Oddly not too many issues this week, I think!-

    Butland
    Moreno/ Kolorov/ Bertrand
    Ozil/ Hazard/ Mahrez/ KDB
    Lukaku/ Vardy/ Kane

    McCarthy/ Stanislas/ Richards/ Targett
    3.8M ITB 1FT

    A. Targett to Simpson ( a playing player for Xmas, keeps Kane to Aguero cash)
    B. Bert to Spurs defender
    C. Something else
    D. Save. Possibly next week Targett to Olsson WBA?

Was all on saving but cant think of a reason not to do B this week?

    Thanks

This is the sensible move i know!

Thinking this week- Bert to Rose
        next week- Targett to Olsson

Gets a playing defender and leaves Aguero cash

Who has been the best/worst signings for your club?

    For Liverpool...

Best: Clyne (12M). Huge upgrade over Glen Johnson (but credit for him doing well now).
Worst: Firmino (29M) - we did not need another attacking midfielder. We needed a winger to replace Sterling. One may say Benteke is even worse but he adds a different dynamic to the team. Sturridge, Ings and Origi are similar in playstyle.

    1. Kurtinho

Too early to judge imo. Firmino could end up a bargain. Give him time.

Grosskreutz is rumoured to be signing for us in January by the way. Could be a nice versatile addition to the squad. Gives us cover on the wings and at fullback.

          10 years, 1 month ago

I hope we don't sign him. Our club got rid of one racist (Suarez) and we don't need another. Gaya for Valencia would be great but I could be dreaming.

So you believe that a hateful comment in the heat of the moment makes somebody a racist for the rest of their life? That was over 3 years ago. People make mistakes.

            • 11 Years

Plus we don't need to spend millions on replacing Moreno, all we need is cover in those fullback positions. Grosskreutz with his versatility and familiarity with Klopp could be valuable.

Suarez wasn't a racist. His biting incidents were inexcusable, but he wasn't a racist.

The word he used was Negrito, which means Little Black Fella, and Suarez's own grandmother used to call his black grandfather Mi Negrito as a term of affection.

Evra, who had previous for making unfounded racist accusations, made far too much of it, there was a witch hunt to find a scapegoat after the failure to act against John Terry, and Liverpool were very naïve in underestimating the forces lined up against him.

      This season only?

      Worst: None

Summer window, yes. Hmm. Dele Alli long-term could beat out Alderweireld but Alderweireld seems like the obvious choice now. How about Heung-Min Son at 18M? Doesn't he have to report for military service eventually?

          In that case,

          For Arsenal

          Best : Cech
          Worst : Cech

Alli was signed last season, and loaned back to his previous club until the end of last season. Spurs major problem had been defence before this season, Alderweireld definitely has a bigger impact than Son.

    Bench one for each:

    A) Vardy
    B) Barkley

I've benched Vardy but if JT looks to start I may switch

    1) Moreno
    2) Bellerin

I see more cs potential vs wba but more attacking vs avl

Cheers Zasa, would love to do bring in an ARS mid but don't have the funds unfortunately, and not sure they warrant a hit given Bolasie is at home to a an out of form SOT. Whatcha reckon?

Ah, missed the MITB. Yeah, i's probably the sensible thing to hold seeing as Palace have a good chance at scoring at home here & Bolasie's stats have been very strong. IMO, you have WAY too much money invested in the back, four 5 defenders worth 5.5m+ is too much. If you save & Agüero's fit, then I'd look at downgrading on of those heavy hitters to invest in midfield. Arsenal's attack has been consistent for so long now, I'd be very wary of not owning a piece of their attack tbh

Hazard created 10 chances in the 4 games before Bournemouth.
He created 5 chances a Bournemouth and two very good shots on target.
He had 1 assist (effectively 2 if Costa didn't need the OG) and hit the post.

He'll haul soon, I'm confident. Leicester have kept something like 3 cleansheeets in their last 25 games.

Unfortunately Hazard is surrounded by mediocrity at the moment. Costa's finishing today was poor for example. Leicester are poor at the back but to score 0 goals against Bournemouth is shocking.

I'm still for the latter albeit to a lesser degree tbh, I was always eyeing these coming GW's as a low ceiling for the Leicester double-up as oppose to their easy fixtures early on. Time will tell, but I'm not convinced they'll have it so easy vs tougher & more tactically astute managers. They got a result vs ManU recently & they drew vs Spurs at home & Saints away so fair play, but I wouldn't be surprised if their goalscoring drops off a bit. Six goals vs (TOT, ARS, sou, MUN) fwiw.

      Just my two cents.

        • 12 Years

Fair assessment. I'm cautious on the Leicester double up with these tough fixtures coming up but the duo keeps scoring and their form does not seem to be dipping. For their low price they'll have to do a lot wrong for me to get rid of them. I can see Leicester being involved in high scoring games all season.

        1. Zasa
          • 11 Years
          10 years, 1 month ago

Low price yes, but with the heavy hitters not firing right no or still being unfit, I'm looking at this from a sheer points perspective though as value isn't too big a deal for the time being, even just one Leicester player does wonders. I'm not advocating for hopping off entirely, but IMO using that one spot to get a Giroud perhaps has decent potential to outscore Vardy these next 4 or so coming fixtures if he stays fit & rotation free for example.

I'm not sure Leicester have been truly tested away from home vs top 8 sides other thén Saints (CHE, eve, liv, MCI, BOU, tot). If Kompany's fit for their match & with Chelsea having shown solid defensive performances their last 5-6 matches in all competitions, I don't think the fixtures are that straight forward imo.

Could be completely wrong though going without Vardy, but I see more opportunity to risk going without him then Mahrez considering the latter's propensity for double digit hauls & more leeway in midfield as oppose to the forward slots. 🙂

how does everyone feel on Dier v Rose v Toby?

still leaning Toby despite ownership as he looks the best choice (for differential context I'm just outside the top 20k)

Chelsea v Leicester will tell us a lot about both teams. Should be a cracker.

What's everyone take with Silva coming back? Has KDB been affected positionally?

Silva's only detrimental to KDB set-piece wise. Otherwise I feel he benefits him because of his playmaking ability. KDB won't play centrally with Silva in the team IMO.
