Im Not Marshal Foch Im Not Marshal Foch
Share:

If ever a game summed up a player, surely Sunday’s match between West Brom and Manchester City showed us all the two sides of City’s prodigious striker Mario Balotelli. The Italian rewarded the faith of his manager with two goals in six minutes in only his second start in the Premier League. Unfortunately for Mancini, Balotelli made the transformation from hero to villain with a straight red card in the second-half for a reckless kick during a tangle with Youssouf Mulumbu.

Todays dismissal highlighted Balotelli’s addiction to controversy and for Fantasy Football Managers was the equivalent of an espresso at the end of a drunken meal. Certainly it would have made many managers wary of bringing in a striker who, whilst has obvious talent, still has a hot headed fieriness. Temperamental players are the last thing the majority of Fantasy Football managers want or need.

This game and the display of Balotelli served to ease the pressure which had been building on manager Roberto Mancini who has been looking to stop a run in which had City lost their last three games. Mancini was clearly happy with his strikers performance;

“For me, Mario Balotelli played very well. The referee should not have given a red card, absolutely not. It’s possible we may appeal.”

That will be promising to the ears of those who are looking to bring in the fiery Italian. However it is worth remembering that frivolous appeals can often lead to extended cautions so City, and FPL’s finest will need to tread carefully.

The inclusion of the Italian saw James Milner dropped to the bench and increased the rotation risk around the Manchester City team. From an attacking perspective it is nearly impossible to determine the line-up for the Citizens and going forward investment in Manchester City midfielders and attackers, bar talismanic captain Carlos Tevez, is becoming more of a minefield. Caution and patience is recommended.

Unfortunately this is not something that 1,282 managers displayed this afternoon. That is the amount (and rising at time of writing) who knee-jerkingly transferred in Balotelli today. A large number of those did so during the game. If ever there was a test case in why you shouldn’t do your transfers early then this was it.

-Elsewhere Liverpool overcame champions Chelsea with a first half performance from Fernando Torres which reminded us all why he is so revered throughout the world. Two goals, the second a sublime curling effort, proved too much for Chelsea at Anfield and served to open up the title race. It also exposed how Chelsea struggle without their big hitters Lampard, Essien and Drogba. It was no coincidence that their performance improved in the second half with the introduction of the Ivorian, but for those who have the big striker in their team, a single point was a disappointing return.

Overall this week served up its fair share of headaches, underperformance of key players and low scores across the board. Thankfully we only have two days before the next Gameweek comes along.

Hi guys, do u think it's worth a 4pt hit to replace Jara for Simpson or Shawx for Konchesky? or should I just play Foley for the next gameweek & make a transfer after that. Decisions decisions

Yup. I needed a defender for under 5.3 with decent fixtures in certain weeks.. Weeks where Everton have excellent fixtures, so Coleman was the only real option.

I don't hate Hernandez, not at all. I'm just messing around. Too many people with pictures of him around here, they need a dose of reality.

Fellaini won't affect Coleman. Everton don't have too many options for the wide roles. Only Coleman, Pienaar, Bily and Osman can really play there, and Bily is shit and Osman is injured.

Fellaini will probably slot in for Heitinga, who's been dire all season.

Bargain. BTW he is only on 4k a week. Found that out this week.

Not Ivan - will be rotated with Bos.

Terry? Overpriced - cleansheets but limited bonus points, goals and assists - not worth the money imho.

Should be either Alex for a smaller outlay or Cashley for the all-round points possibilities.

Weird season right? In my 3rd year of fpl and its different this time, there's guys in my league who havent touched their teams since day 1 (basically quick 5 min teams to fill a spot) who're above some of the guys like me who spend time researching, planning transfers etc etc.

Is it getting harder to be good at fpl, with more squad rotation and injuries.. so luck is playing more part at the moment? Or what, like? lol

Mental season at the moment... Playing the fixtures isn't working properly (because so many 😯 results) and the cheaper players are virtually matching the more expensive ones (for whatever reason).

Things should return to normal soon... At least I bloody hope so!!

I doubt that there were two home games throughout the whole of last season where Fabregas played 90 minutes and didn't do anything. And this season he's done it back to back in two relatively easy games. Makes no sense!

      True story..
Happening in my league as well..Last week for example
I spend the whole week reading researching and asking.. in the end i end up losing points tranferring in and out, while 2 other guyz simply captained vidic and ended up with 24 pts that easy..
Luck is playing a major role in fpl at the moment..

He needs Nani back pronto but I can't see Fergie risking longer-term injury by bringing back too soon. He's returning to my team in gw14.

Just have a feeling Tevez and Little Pea will share a goal each on Wednesday.

Yep - I'm keen on recruiting VDV this week. Could see a Spurs backlash and wouldn't mind giving him the armband this week.

If not I may give Malouda a go before he leaves my team - he looked the only one who could unlock the Liverpool defence and Drogba looked a bit lethargic to me.

Cracking effort 🙂 Must be concerned about Chelski too? For me they are still favourites - By a fair way - But don't understand why they haven't been scoring goals away from home.

I am losing patience with my Magpie defender - I've benched him everytime hes got real points, same for Konchesky. Thing is, if the same games came up again I would bench them again. Crazy season. Next time Mr Williamson or Mr Enrique are away to a top 4 side we should give them the armband!

Transfer already James.. Care to share?

Given the fact I missed the transfer deadline on Saturday, I now have 2 free transfers. Anyone like to suggest some transfers as I think I'm overlooking a few things.

I'm presuming Nani is fit for the City game...

    Williamson Alex Mummy (Jara) (Gohouri)

    My thoughts...
Piquionne: short term - say the next 4-5 GWs.
Odemwingie: long term - the next possibly 10-11 GWs

Of course things could change significantly but I've gone for Piquionne.
