It’s time to visit the Weekly Shop this Wednesday evening, as we assess the player lists of our partner games to pinpoint the likely targets that will make up our own weekly squads.

As always, the player analysis is split into two sections: I’ll break down the key targets that no squad can do without in “Better Buys”, before seeking out those one-shot “Poundstretcher” prospects that can provide us points, whilst freeing up funds.

For this week’s selection, we’re focusing on the FantasyBet and DraftKing player lists.

Better buys

Fraser Forster’s (FantasyBet 4.5m, DraftKings $3,900) settling influence is unquestionable after Southampton registered a fifth successive clean sheet since his return from injury. Considering that a sixth shut-out at Swansea this weekend would equal the number kept in the 20 outings prior to his reinstatement, Saints fans will be wondering what could have been if their shot-stopper had been available all season.

Jose Mourinho’s departure from the Chelsea hotseat has coincided with a revival in Branislav Ivanovic’s (FantasyBet 6.5m, DraftKings $4,300) attacking output. The full-back had failed to produce any attacking points before the Special One parted company but has since served up a goal and three assists in the subsequent nine. Although the Blues have now conceded in each of their last seven at the Bridge, the visit of a Newcastle side that has netted once in four away trips gives the opportunity to chalk up a clean sheet.

Dimitri Payet (FantasyBet 7.5m, DraftKings $7,700) has been disappointing since recovering from an ankle problem, with a goal and assist at Bournemouth his only returns in five starts. The Frenchman assisted the winner in the midweek FA cup victory over Liverpool, though, demonstrating the effectiveness of his set-piece delivery, which is an important aspect of DraftKings scoring system. Payet’s 16 chances created and 47 crosses over those five appearances makes him an enticing prospect ahead of a visit to struggling Norwich.

Romelu Lukaku’s (FantasyBet 9m, DraftKings $7,600) pronounced presence on Jonty’s goals imminent table is a sound indicator that substantial returns could be on the cards as West Brom travel to Goodison Park. At Stoke, the Belgian scored a first goal in six league matches but has had 20 attempts over that period, with 16 of those coming from inside the box. The Toffees frontman could reap the benefits up against a Baggies defence that has conceded in seven straight matches away from the Hawthorns.

Poundstretchers

Watford travel to a Crystal Palace side that has lost three in a row at Selhurst Park and scored just three times in the last eight Gameweeks. Even if the Hornets concede, though, Huerelho Gomes (FantasyBet 4.5m, DraftKings $3,300) could be worth considering – he impressed in the narrow defeat at Spurs by making eight saves, a factor that we think is worth looking out for in Draftkings.

Bournemouth’s Charlie Daniels (FantasyBet 4.5m, DraftKings $3,900) has picked up a goal and two assists over the last four Gameweeks ahead of a home clash with Stoke. Whilst the left-back’s crossing should reap rewards in Draftkings, centre-back Simon Francis (FantasyBet 4m, DraftKings $2,500) is better priced if you’re unwilling to splash the cash, given that the Potters have failed to net in their last four outings. The Cherries, meanwhile, have kept two clean sheets in their last four at Dean Court, only conceding to top-six sides Arsenal and West Ham.

Sunderland have gone eleven matches without a clean sheet, conceding 23 goals in that porous run and look set to continue to leak goals. Weekend visitors Man United appear to have found some attacking fluency with Jesse Lingard’s (FantasyBet 4.5m, DraftKings $4,300) continued inclusion providing some much-needed width to stretch opponents. The youngster has scored three in five starts and offers a budget alternative to Wayne Rooney and Anthony Martial.

Staying on Wearside, we’re also considering the home side’s new signing Wahbi Khazri (FantasyBet 6.0m, DraftKings $3,400), who made an immediate impression on his first start last weekend by providing the assists for both goals in a 2-2 comeback draw at Anfield.

We return to Bournemouth for our budget forward pick, Benik Afobe (FantasyBet 6m, DraftKings $4,800) – the winter signing may have blanked against Arsenal but goals in each of his three previous outings suggests he is clearly capable of producing the goods. Add to that a visit from a Potters side that have lost 3-0 in each of the last three Gameweeks and Afobe could be in line for a fourth goal in his sixth start for the Cherries.

These are the contenders for my weekly contest lineups heading into the midweek fixtures. Tomorrow I’ll also bring you up to date on my progress in FantasyBet, as I continue my quest for profit in the 2015/16 campaign.

I might be going against my own prophecy, but it really seems sensible to get a SOU defender this GW rather than getting Costa for Kun. I really want Costa to have a GW 30 match, so i can field 7-10 players 😀

I will persevere and wait for the pressers.

Yep. Defo supporting man city in the cup. Plus Aguero and Kolarov very highly owned so the more blanks they have the better

Exactly, that would make Kun > Costa an absolute beauty of a transfer honestly.

Can you not field 11 if you keep Kun?

If so that transfer makes sense but I'd still prefer to transfer another player that will miss 27

I was talking about gw 30 fielding 11, not 27. I think if i ship Kun i will have 0 players missing that GW.

How can you be so sure Chelsea will play GW30?
If Chelsea wins against ManCity for the FACup, then it's Kun who plays ahead of Costa..

Maybe clutching at straws but as someone who's had to already use wc I'm hoping it turns out to be a poisoned chalice. Gonna be tricky to get a team that's both great for the double week and the week you do it and for the rest of season. Inevitably gonna lose some players you wish you hadn't

Agree. Chances created are just passes which lead to shots , you don't know if Coutinho is taking a 40-yard shot or is it a good chance

Its an excellent stat for midfielders and defenders. Typically strikers should always have plenty of touches in the box.

Yeah , nothing wrong with it. Infact taking touches/dribbling before a shot increased the probability of the shot being a goal. I was just curious as to whether pen box touches alone as a metric is good or not. You have been very helpful 🙂

I use Pen box touches for defenders and sometimes midfielders to see how frequently they get in the box which sometimes translates to goal threats.

But like most others shots on target especially and shots in the box are my preferred

The best predictors are big chances and shots on target.

Penalty box touches are meaningless if the touches don't create great chances or involve shots off target.

FFix have Costa top choice, RMT says Ozil (but RMT has been very pessimistic on Leicester all season and really should get with the times). Sanchez, Aguero, Lukaku, Giroud make up the top 6 on both. But there really isn't a stand-out favourite.

Well at the very least I hope he's prepared to take Leicester seriously by studying how they play and how they beat teams like City 3-1 at the Etihad.

Surely the best captain option of all players this gameweek?

I'm not sure about this plan. 13-15 DGW players in GW34 may well mean 6 players in GW35 - what you gain in BB for the DGW will be neutralised the following week - and more.

      2. Live Lad
        • 11 Years

Not for me. GW 35 has blanks. We would struggle to field 11 players.

        This for me.

I just seem to remember scores being harder to predict in GE37/38 due to lower clubs fighting for their lIves

  19. Live Lad

We can assume now that DGWs are 34 (blank-filled 35) and 37. Would be very difficult to field 11 players on GW 35, if we use WC+BB before GW 34.

    - TC instead of BB for GW 34
    - WC on GW 36 to prepare for DGW 37 BB

Easier to sort out GW 38 lineup as every team is playing? And the FPL ranks will have been effectively decided by end of 37?

Please chip in with your ideas. Thanks!

I'm still thinking that a WC for a DGW will prove better than playing it the week before and BBing for the DGW. especially in GW37 when you'll be extremely lucky to get 13 doublers, let alone 15.

Not sure koyate more of a box to box player like ramsey who gets into good positons going forward compared to song who sits back more.

          ................Carroll
          Valencia Payet Antonio
          ...........Song Noble
          Cress Ogbonna Collins Byram
          ..................Adrian

In the cup he picked Obiang and Noble as the 2 defensive mids with kouyate pushed forward more, Payet on the wing.

Hard to really pick a line up but normally its between Noble, Obiang, Song, Kouyate for the 2 spots rather than 3 with Payet as a winger.

Lanzini back soon will confuse things wven more though haha

      None 🙂

I have the same but Arnie instead of Barkley and I'm benching him.

Considered Payet and Mahrez for the armband,
Alli away form is great and City can't really defend,
Barkley has one of the fixtures of the weekend and is explosive (in these types of games),
Ozil arguably has the best form and huge ownership..

There are 2 schools, for the last couple of days. Pro- Costa and anti- Costa. Both have good points.
But it is your choice. You have to count all the pros and cons.

-4 it is too much, especially when Costa may blank in GW 30 and Aguero not. Then in just 4 week distance you have both attackers blanking once. Does it look as appealing as you firstly thought? Don't think so.

    Who would you captain:

    Lloris
    Ivanovic* -- VvD -- Baines
    Ozil* -- Mahrez* -- Payet* -- Alli
    Kun* -- Ighalo* -- Naismith*

    THE OPTIONS:
    __________________________________

    1) Ivanovic - NEW - good attacking AND defensive potential, but Zouma out.

    2) Ozil - LEI - no idea how this game is going to go but I see both teams scoring and Ozil is normally involved when Ars score

    3) Mahrez - ars - Hugely explosive, form getting better, loves away games, sensible maverick?

    4) Payet - nor - Integral to West Ham, great fixture, lots of injuries for West Ham, maverick pick.

    5) Kun - TOT - up against the league's toughest defence, but it's Kun, the default option

    6) Ighalo - cpl - good fixture, decent form, another maverick choice

    7) Naismith - WHM - hugely maverick choice, but WHM can't defend too well and have a few injuries, explosive player

CURRENTLY leaning towards Payet / Mahrez but having lots of doubts...
