The social networks bring us crumbs of comfort as thoughts turn to Rafael Van der Vaart’s hamstring. Arsene Wenger takes no chances with his precious Dutchman, while elsewhere England and Wales earn victories without taking casualties…

We gained further insight into Rafael Van der Vaart’s condition yesterday – typically via Twitter. While Dutch coach Bert van Marwijk had stated on Friday that he felt that Van der Vaart’s injury was a “mild sprain”, the player himself has gone out of his way to offer further reassurance

“Suffered a minor hamstring injury during yesterdays game against Switzerland.”

That was then followed swiftly by…

“So very disappointed I won’t play Germany in Hamburg on Tuesday, hope to be back real quick!”

The Dutchman’s Fantasy owners will gain some hope from this then, particularly given that Tottenham’s next fixture is on the Monday night, allowing Van der Vaart more time to recover from any problem. We can hopefully expect to hear more from the club themselves on the situation in the next 24-hours. Until then, it appears that Van der Vaart could still be in the frame for gameweek 12.

While the stress of losing his Dutch craftsman is the last thing Harry Redknapp needed, Arsene Wenger has taken no such risks with his prized asset. It’s been confirmed that Robin Van Persie will sit out of Holland’s friendly with Germany on Tuesday having played in Friday’s game. That would appear to assure that the Dutchman starts in Arsenal’s trip to Carrow Road in gameweek 12.

England’s vaunted 1-0 win over Spain saw an array of impressive displays from the likes of Scott Parker, Joleon Lescott and Phil Jagielka. Crucially, there were no apparent injuries on either side as both England and Spain made a string of second-half changes that saw Theo Walcott, Frank Lampard and Darren Bent replaced early on, while David Silva was also rested at half-time for the Spaniards.

Unfortunately, all these players face a further friendly match on Tuesday, with England hosting Sweden and Spain making the gruelling 11,000 mile trip to Costa Rica.

Fabio Capello at least confirmed following yesterday’s game that he intends to rotate his lineup for the meet with Sweden. John Terry, Gary Cahill, Kyle Walker, Bobby Zamora and Daniel Sturridge will all start Tuesday’s clash and so their Fantasy owners will certainly face further anxiety.

Gareth Bale continued his strong early season form with a rasping near post finish and another strong display as Wales saw off Norway 4-1 in Cardiff. Liverpool’s Craig Bellamy also impressed and got himself on the scoresheet, while the likes of Aaron Ramsey, Ashley Williams, Joe Allen, Andrew Crofts and Steve Morison all came through the game unscathed.

Norway had John Arne Riise, Brede Hangeland and Morten Gamst Pedersen in opposition – again, there were no obvious injuries to report. Both sets of players will now return to their respective clubs ahead of gameweek 12.

Yaya Toure played out 85 minutes for the Ivory Coast in their 1-1 draw with South Africa. Brother Kolo completed the 90 minutes, as did Arsenal’s Gervinho. Tottenham’s Steven Pienaar built up his fitness following injury with 90 minutes for the home side. Again, both sets of players will now return to their clubs ahead of the weekend fixtures.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Fabregas is so dislikable. Joining Barca has made him even worse than he was before. Gifted, but a scrout with it.

I wouldn't call those quotes dislikable.
A bit dim (and perhaps lost in Spanglish), but nothing much worse than you'd expect.

He also says that they change a lot of players which is why they suffer in friendlies. Not seen any Spain games for a while but surely that was pretty much their strongest starting 11, although isn't Ramos usually a RB and Puyol in the centre?

I'm doing terrible when it comes to head to heads 🙁 You definitely need 2 teams for them and normal leagues!

In my mates one the guy in first and me in second are 4th and 5th in the H2H league with the same people.

Doosra will have a advantage this week, I'll most definitely be making a 2nd transfer 🙂

They're a bit of fun, in my H2H league with my brothers there are 10 teams, I'm 3rd highest score but until 2 gw's ago I was in 10th place and taking dogs abuse, that's the fun of it.

Yeah tis a bit of fun on the side. Even better when my mate went top and celebrated saying he was going to win all the money. I then had to break it to him that the money was on the standard league and the H2H was set up for fun and nothing else 🙂

if Spain had won we would be facing up to the reality - England aren't good enough to win a tournament instead of hiding behind this result. please dont be too disappointed when we get knocked out the quarter finals again

its been proved miserable people live longer, btw! 😉

"If Spain had won we would be facing up to reality". So why do we have to say it's just a friendly just because we lost?

Of course we're going to get knocked out at the quarters. That doesn't stop me appreciating a good defensive performance against a very good Spain side, friendly or not. Sometimes you have to play negative tactics. It's still very hard to concentrate and be disciplined for that long. i doubt Rooney would have been on the pitch had he been playing.

Watched some good performances from players that don't usually get in the first 11, who want to play for their country and stepped up brilliantly.

Saw some good performances from the young players who don't seem to have as much fear as those that have been around for a while.

Were there positives? Yes. Are we going to win the Euro's? No. Should we be happy about beating Spain? Hell yes!

Keep Walters. His next 2 are stellar fixtures.

Presumably you are already benching Simpson, so planning to bench Enrique doesn't leave you much wiggle room.
In fact, Enrique may well outscore Simpson over the next 3 weeks. I'd be tempted to play him at Chelsea. Liverpool are usually well up for games against the top 3.

    Brown, Vidic, Wilkinson, Evans, Simpson

    Bruntm Drenthe, VDV, Ramies, Allen

    RVP, Rooney, Dzeko

Not sure Vidic is worth the price? Should i swap VDV to Bale and upgrade elsewhere? I feel happy having RVP, Roon and Even Dzeko, i know he will be rotated but i need city coverage and I refuse to get Silva back after selling him 2 wks ago (I know, stupid).

aguero is travelling to barranquilla (columbia) to try and recover there and make the game. doubts are bigger due to the pitch they expect to play on is meant to be quite bad. apparently he did some light work yesterday and felt no discomfort

Cheers Demi. I see him as a great pick for my WC team, especially if he drops to 11.9, which is coincidentally the exact same price I got RVP for before his explosion of form....I see this as a good omen!

He should be - Cleverley and Anderson are due back, and Utd have lacked a creative spark up front with Rooney in the middle.

Saying that, we have a great, long run of good fixtures so it probably won't hurt you too much to leave it a week and make sure he's playing further forward.

Plus, you knew he was a rotation risk when you got him, and he got rotated - for a 4.5m Utd defender you're not going to get any playing guarantees.

          This.

Just roll with your defence this week. Mines pretty bad and I have the general team defenders like Newcastle, Liverpool etc etc. I'm just going in with the knowledge this won't be a good week for my defence but hopefully it will be a bit better in the weeks to come.

          I am taking a hit though 😀

Decided that I want to bring in Lampard next week, he's in great form, looks to have his goalscoring knack back. Just captained England to a good win against the World Champs (not to mention nodding in the winner), his confidence must be sky-high.

If you get sent off in an international friendly, are you then suspended for the next one?

Just saw that my main man Kolarov was sent off against Mexico, apparently for a foul on Hernandez (well played AK). Hoping that he'll be unavailable for the game against Honduras now, ready to score seven goals against Newcastle next weekend!

I dunno why but I was under the impression that you get suspended for the next competitive match but can still play friendlies.

But as I read that back it seems a bit stupid, and is probably completely wrong.

        From wiki:

Players can be booked in international friendlies, and can be suspended from future international matches based on red cards or accumulated yellows in a specified period.

Doesn't explicitly say that players are suspended for the next friendly, but I guess it's implicit, right?

        Given, Shawcross, Kompany, Suarez
        to

...but obviously less keen if Wilkinson turns out to be a rotation risk!

It is an easy choice A because it doesnt have Evans and a Blackburn defender (are you being serious!!).

Swap Vorm for Kenny and you have a verry good team for A IMO

Don't take out Vorm. He's possibly the best keeper to have at the minute.

Hm. I primarily look at fixtures. Then Kenny comes out on top combined with Westwood. It means my GK gets a homegame every week ahead.

Vorm has only got 3 easy homegames in the next 12 gameweeks. Food for thought.
