Wednesday night culminates now with a visit to the Weekly Shop, as we analyse the player lists of our partner games to highlight the likely targets that will make up our own weekly squads.

As per usual, the player analysis is split into two sections: I’ll break down the key targets that no squad can do without in “Better Buys”, before seeking out those one-shot “Poundstretcher” prospects that can provide us points, whilst freeing up funds.

For this week’s selection, we’re focusing on the FantasyBet and DraftKing player lists.

Better Buys

Stoke host a Southampton team that have struggled for goals on the road of late. The Saints have only notched three times in their last seven away ties and with Shane Long expected to remain sidelined along with Charlie Austin, their chances of finding the net look slim at the Britannia. Jack Butland’s (FantasyBet 4.5m, DraftKings $3,700) form may have faltered but a clean sheet against Newcastle in the Potters’ last home clash was a fifth shut-out in nine in front of their own fans – with Ryan Shawcross potentially available, there’s every chance that shut-out tally will be increased by the weekend.

Bournemouth have hit a promising patch of form, picking up seven points in their last three outings, while conceding just once. At St James’ in their last fixture, Charlie Daniels (FantasyBet 4.5m, DraftKings $4,600) netted a third goal of the campaign, while five assists as well this season highlights his points potential at both ends of the pitch as Swansea travel to Dean Court.

After scoring three and serving up as many assists over a five-week period, Christian Eriksen (FantasyBet 8.5m) has now blanked in three consecutive Gameweeks. The Dane’s ability from dead-ball situations could come in useful, though, against an Aston Villa side that have conceded the second-highest number of attempts from set pieces (24) over the last four Gameweeks.

Manchester City will be hopeful of recording their first back-to-back wins since October as they make the trip to a Norwich side that have picked up just a single point in nine matches and have let in 12 goals in four at Carrow Road. David Silva (FantasyBet 10m) earned attacking returns for the first time in six league appearances last week, creating two of the goals in the 4-0 win over Aston Villa, whilst Yaya Toure’s (FantasyBet 8.5m) strike in that encounter also broke a long drought, with his seventh goal of the campaign arriving after seven league outings without returns. Both midfielders should see this match as a chance to build up some form for the run-in.

Riyad Mahrez has been the Foxes main threat away from home, with his weekend winner securing all three points at Watford last time out. Nonetheless, Jamie Vardy’s (FantasyBet 7.5m) contribution at home has been ruthlessly consistent. The forward has been involved in over 50% of the Foxes goals at the King Power this term, notching 11 goals and two assists over 14 matches, and that record should be extended against a Magpies outfit that have conceded 13 goals in six consecutive away defeats.

Poundstretchers

Vardy and Mahrez are taking the majority of plaudits for the league leaders’ spectacular season, but seven clean sheets in the last 11 matches, compared to three shut-outs over the previous 18, shows that Claudio Ranieri’s defence have been equally vital to their title tilt. Kasper Schmeichel (FantasyBet 4.5m) and Christian Fuchs (FantasyBet 4.5m) are our prime candidates for inclusion, with visitors Newcastle have scored just twice in their last six on the road.

Although Spurs have now gone four matches without a clean sheet, they’ve had some tough fixtures over that spell, having faced the three teams directly below them in the table. A trip to Villa Park hands them the chance to earn a tenth shut-out of the campaign and Kevin Wimmer (FantasyBet 4.5m) offers a bargain route into their back four.

Bournemouth provide us with a host of budget options ahead of the home clash with Swansea. Matt Ritchie (FantasyBet 5.5m, DraftKings $6,600) was highly rated as Bournemouth embarked on their first foray into the Premier League and, while a slow start somewhat dampened his Fantasy appeal, recent form – a goal and three assists over the last six – has made him the top-scoring Cherries midfielder. Meanwhile Josh King (FantasyBet Midfielder 4.5m, DraftKings Forward $4,200) and forward Max Gradel (FantasyBet 5.5m, DraftKings $4,600) have also impressed of late, with the former bagging a goal and assist in the win at Newcastle. Picking between the trio may end up coming down to available funds but with their target man Benik Afobe (FantasyBet 6m, DraftKings $4,700) also making a promising start to his top-flight career, including one or more of Eddie Howe’s attacking assets looks good value this week.

The match at Carrow Road throws up a pair of differentials to consider. Nathan Redmond (FantasyBet 5m) scored in his previous home match against Chelsea and is the top midfielder for shots in the box over the last three – he faces a City defence with two clean sheets in seven on the road. After starting against Aston Villa, Wilfried Bony (FantasyBet 8m) may also be worth selecting for the trip to Norwich. The City striker has scored four goals and served up three assists this campaign despite limited pitch time and could partner Sergio Aguero in a 4-4-2 again at Carrow Road, with Manuel Pellegrini likely to have one eye on the midweek Champions League fixture against Kiev.

These are the contenders for my weekly contest lineups heading into the midweek fixtures. Tomorrow I’ll also bring you up to date on my progress in FantasyBet, as I continue my quest for profit in the 2015/16 campaign.

    Defense for this week

    Simpson(NEW) Kompany(nor) Williams(bou) Wolly( SOU) [Ward]
Is there a need to bring in Wimmer for ward and bench Williams or Wolly or just save the transfer?

    GW31 defense would be
    Simpson (cry) Williams(VILLA) Wimmer(bou) [ Kompany(UNITED) Wolly(watford)]

So if all these DGW fixtures end up in GW 34 we are screwed:

    Alexis/Ozil
    Firmino
    Payet/Antonio
    Siggy/Silva/Kdb(?)
    Barkley

    While Mahrez has WHAM.

Only to have some of these not having a fixture in GW 35.

    lol

Costa and Aguero. Perhaps wickham for that third spot. Someone cheap.

Can still get a rather solid backline.

          Roble.
          Bellerin. Pva. Rojo.

          Etc.

          Some bargains out there

    Mentioned on Twisted Saltergater's post!

Are we going to get more on our rivals by bench boosting DGW37 than DGW34?

There's 12 teams playing in DGW34 so lots will be able to cover 11 DGWK players.

How many teams do we expect to have DGW37?

Probably 8 in 37 depending on how this weekend goes.

I think gw33 is defo best for the if you are trying to gain rank but if you have a rank you are happy with then gw36 is probably best as it allows you to keep a lot of your spurs leicester players for decent fixtures and these are the top two sides in the league to this point.

Okay, that's a fair point. I'm trying to avoid using my wildcard before the first DGW, saving it for the later when there's probably no blank right after the DGW and so I'm not going to be in such a deep sheet right after having used my wildcard.

Thats the issue with the "early" wc. The team has to be picked up perfectly. Not sure if its possible to field 15 DGW, 11 players in gw 35 and then move forwards the other DGW. I guess it depends on the fixtures. Just did a mock team and it looks phenomenal for that single dgw, with no regards to any other gw.

                  Elliot/Robles
                  Pva/Rojo/Moreno/ Huth / Cresswell
                  Payet / Firmino / Mahrez /Ozil/ Sanchez
                  Aguero/Lukaku / Costa

leaves me with 0.0 itb 😀

It shouldn't be overly difficult to do if you pick 3 city, 3 liverpool, and 3 from wba,wat/ars (whichever gets knocked out of fa cup),new.

If Chelsea and Palace win in fa cup then Everton could play sunderland in gw35 in a single gw the weekend of the fa cup semi finals too which would make it a piece of cake to have 11 with decent fixtures for 35 as well as 15 for the gw34 dbl.

Bear in mind you will have two ft's for 35 if you wc in gw33 and don't use your ft in 34.

Yes, most likely. There is a small chance they could kick the city fixture down the road to gw37 but in my experience they almost always try and get these fixtures out of the way at the earliest possible date.

Good morning all. Playing catch up in all my minileagues. Average 50-60 points behind with only BB chip remaining. Will have to make a GK trade to field 11 this weekend. This ain't gonna help me close the gap mucH, so plan to take a hit.

In your opinion, which player could tear it up this weekend?

    Squad below:

    (Courtois, Hennessey)
    Toby Wolly Bertrand Williams Koscielny)
    Alli, Mahrez, Arnie (Mesut, Barkley)
    Kun Kane Vardy

I have a couple of ideas, would welcome some more. Cheers!

Real stinker mate, second year in a row now.

I would be able to write off one bad season as unlucky but I'm starting to think I'm going to have to vary my tactics next year now as there seems to be a more level playing field in epl with lots of cheaper players outscoring the premium ones.

My only real mistake was not getting Mahrez at the start when I would never leave a cheap attacking player on pens who scores a double out normally. My fear of the tinkerman and logical appraisal that Leicester were likely to struggle done for me this season as well as my stubborness in sticking with proven fantasy assets.

I think I've got to be prepared to be more bandwagony next season if I am to get back to normal performance.

Any idea why you have struggled?

Liverpool gk gives you two dbls and a game in 35 if you want to gamble on their def (they have decent stats defensively)

Not really as if they play it in 34 then it allows a free gw for any other eventualities that may require a dbl. In my experience they have always tried to reschedule a rearranged fixture at the earliest possible date.

I think they'll factor in all possible outcomes of the cup games before announcing. They don't have to wait for the results. Even if it's a draw.

There may still be another week to wait. In theory it should be today but waiting until after the results from the weekend makes more sense.

2FT Can start 11 with a four man defence, but tempted with Sanchez to Yaya or Siggy.
I could just play Williams and sort out Henn and/or Ward with a FT?

    Thoughts?

Form over fixtures. Yaya has slightly better fixtures than Siggy but Siggy has the form over Yaya. So it's Siggy for me every day unless you need to start building up your DGWers,

Can field a full XI if I use my 1 FT. Which of the following seems most appealing:

    A) Targett to Kompany since he seems to have lost his place

    B) Bellerin to Kompany since he's not playing and Arsenal defensive form is poor (Although Arsenal do have an upcoming DGW along with City)

    C) Ozil to Silva (Again, Arsenal upcoming DGW makes me doubt this move)

Only thing making me think about keeping Targett is the fact that whilst he isn't playing, he at least MIGHT start, which would give me 1 player possibly getting minutes on my bench for if one of my starting XI doesn't play, whilst at the moment I'd have no playing bench if I kept both Ozil and Bellerin and sold Targett.

    Opinions please?

I am in a similar boat, and decided to ship Targett to Wolly.

Bench Bellerin and then have enough ITB to move someone like Fuchs to Kompany for the double.

If I move Bellerin to Kompany, the loss in value does not allow enough to keep Kompany and then buy Bellerin back after the blank, I would have to take a hit to do so.

I'm contemplating Sanchez to Yaya. Good move or better to save to field more DGW in GW34?
Also: play Daniels (SWA) or Wollscheid (SOU)?

    Otherwise good to go?

    Forster (Hennessey)
Kompany / Alderweireld / Huth / Daniels (Wollscheid)
Mahrez / Alli / Siggy (Sanchez, Firmino)
    Aguero / Vardy / Kane

    Just a word of warning.

We are all worked up about the DGW34 and 37, but they have not even been announced yet.

The PL threw all the best planners on here, viz, Balders, Perchinno, Diva, Jarvish, etc. off the road by playing Arsenal's replay on a UCL night which everybody said would not happen. Prepare yourselves well, but don't take the DGWs 34 and 37 as the bible yet. Save transfer if you can and wait for the announcement.

We are now facing GW 30, let's not forget a simple fact here:
Time and the games are running out in a Euro season, the FA can't really afford to drag its heels much longer on this one, the cup games this week will certainly clear a lot up for the FA and allow them to set rearranged dates.
Nothing we do or say on here will alter that fact, we have some ideas, some pointers all we can do now is be patient.

Good point but there is limited space available other than these dates for the dbls.

The arsenal replay was different as they no other available dates.

I could see the Everton Liverpool game getting switched to a midweek of a European week too if palace or Everton win in the FA cup though (rather than a triple gw as has been suggested).

      1. Pasqualinho
        • 16 Years

Hence why they should wait a few days. A Chelsea/Palace/Arsenal cup treble gives Everton and Sunderland a spare weekend in GW35 - an ideal spot for their GW30 postponement. This leaves Everton free for the GW34 and GW37 spots for the other 2 rearrangements - which has a knock on effect for Liverpool and Palace's other matches to re-arrange - plus their opponents. At the moment it's guesswork, by Monday it may be a lot clearer.

So does that give Everton a dbl v Sunderland in gw35?

what happens in gw37? Would this push LIV eve into dbl gw 34? If they did that it would leave a big headache trying to fit in che v LIV somewhere which would be further complicated by the EL should Liverpool beat United.

          Man my head hurts 😛

            • 16 Years

It means Everton and Sunderland don't blank in 35 - but it'll just be a single GW. Liv v Che could still go in 34 or 37 and other fixtures will have to work around that - but it does mean there will be no 3rd double or TGW for Everton.

I think I'd probably prefer having the game in 35 to having a third dbl if I am to play my wc in 33 (as I desperately want to 😀 )

Sorry it would only be a single gw in 35 for Everton if they did this, doh!

Still; Everton having a gw in 35 would push my chances of playing wc in 33 up to 99.9% I reckon.

    Concerning Benitez to Newcastle rumour.

According to reports, Benitez appears to want to be in full control of transfers if he was to sign a long term contract with Newcastle, which is probably what slows the negotiations down. I'd assume that Ashley doesn't mind paying Benitez a big salary, but is reluctant to give him the power over transfers. And he's wise to do so. In principle, clubs should not agree upon a contract that allows the manager to decide for the transfers.

There are some good circumstances though: Benitez will be given a long term contract which probably makes him think more of sportive success and less of fast money making on agent fees, Newcastle actually is in some need of rearranging their squad although not in half as bad as it is made to seem, and Benitez's agent Manuel García Quilón has mostly pretty good Spanish players in his stable.

But certainly that will mean the end of any efforts of playing moneyball that some might remember Newcastle once was supposed to do (I'm not claiming that they ave actually been doing that, at least not recently, rather they've been mindlessly and non-analytically big spending club that doesn't take the best out of their players).

When Benitez managed Napoli, he quite soon bought Albiol, Callejón, and David López to the team. Expect them to travel to Newcastle to meet with him again? Possible. Lopez, in particular, who is the youngest of the lot and not a starter at Napoli. Cue selling Sissoko, Janmaat, Krul and everybody from whom he can get money from (probably the whole French armada on a discount price), and replacing them with Arbeloa, Javi García, Callejón, Albiol and López, and one of Reina, Moyà and Diego López on goal. Could be worse, as these are good players and Albiol in particular would at least resemble a player that Newcastle really needs, but selling youngish players with a lot of potential and replacing them with good but not spectacular 30+ aged guys is not the plan for the future and not even a great plan for the present.
