Shinji Okazaki fires Leicester’s only goal as the league leaders extend their lead at the summit to five points. The Foxes register a sixth clean sheet in seven at the King Power as Rafa Benitez tastes defeat in his first match in charge of the Magpies.

Okazaki Wins it for Foxes

Leicester City restored their five-point lead at the summit of the Premier League by way of a 1-0 home win over Newcastle United.

Shinji Okazaki opened the scoring in the 25th minute with a pinpoint overhead kick, breaking his run of seven outings without a goal.

The Japanese marksman was teed up by Jamie Vardy, who notched his second assist in four starts. In spite of his creative contribution, the league’s joint-top scorer lays claim to a solitary goal in his previous six starts, denoting a downturn in form. Although the Foxes’ schedule (cry, SOU, sun) continues to throw up a host of promising fixtures, Romelu Lukaku’s purple patch (three goals and one assist in four) and imminent double Gameweeks could tempt a portion of Vardy’s 55% ownership to contemplate the switch.

Riyad Mahrez came up short for the 7% of  voters that handed him the captain’s armband. Nonetheless, the Algerian midfielder ranked joint-third among his counterparts for attempts (three) this Gameweek and netted in two of his last three away starts, which bodes well for a road clash against a Crystal Palace outfit that’s shipped the joint-most goals (23) since Gameweek 20.

Having silenced Newcastle, Leicester now boast six clean sheets in their last seven home outings. Considering that Christian Fuchs possesses a better points per game (ppg) average (4.5) than the likes of Danny Simpson (3.9) and Robert Huth (3.8), the Austrian full-back represents the prime route into the East Midlanders’ defence.

Benitez’ charges fall to defeat

Rafa Benitez was unable to inaugurate his reign in the North East with a positive result, yet Newcastle displayed shoots of improvement at the King Power Stadium.

Ultimately, the Magpies failed to score for the fifth time in seven away match-ups, illustrating their paucity of offensive spark beyond St James’ Park – indeed, the Tynesiders have tallied four fewer goals (seven) than any team on the road.

As for their defensive output, Newcastle will draw encouragement from the fact that they limited the hosts to just 10 attempts and one shot on target, given that they surrendered nine goals in their previous trio of matches. That being said, it’s difficult to imagine a scenario in which we’re attracted to a rearguard that’s conceded the joint-second-most goals (54) this term.

The Toon now embark on an agreeable pair of fixtures (SUN, nor) that will go some way to determining their chances of survival. If they can discover some semblance of attacking verve, Georginio Wijnaldum – who places joint-third for goals (nine) among midfielders – could emerge as a left-field differential. In saying that, the Dutchman managed just one attempt on goal last night, with Aleksandar Mitrovic (four shots, all in the box) and Moussa Sissoko (three close-range efforts) boasting the main threat for the visitors.

Can't believe no form decision has been made on when they will be as yet.

I'm thinking just save as many FT's as possible until a clearer fixture list is confirmed.

GW34 is 6 weeks away - no real need for the PL to urgently confirm the fixtures, though after the criticism they got a couple of months ago for moving the Arsenal v Leicester match at short notice, would expect them to confirm sooner rather than later.

I had the gameweek of my season!

With 8 starters I nearly did Sanchez>Silva, but resisted as I hope he will do well vs Everton so instead took a -4 and did Moreno>Cook and Stanislas>King to get a full 11 out. I reasoned the hit would be covered by the starting points anyway..

Didn't expect the two goals and was ecstatic when both scored! With Kane(c) and 3 cleanies from Huth, Wimmer, and Kompany I pulled in 82 points less the hit for a GW rank of 6439 and an overall jump of 400K! 🙂

Twelve players, all with favourable fixtures - I thought it was going to be a good game-week.

Then I saw the Scout Picks - eight of them in my team - and I knew I was doomed.

But the worst part was the three differences - I had Daniels(1), van Dijk(2) and Eriksen(3) instead of Kompany(9), Arnautovic(9) and Kane(13).

Result: only 51 points, a small green arrow overall, but red arrows in 7 of my 8 mini-leagues. 🙁

Yes, it was the three differences from the Scout Picks that were the problem, not the eight that we had in common.

Bringing in Eriksen (2,2,2,3) for Barkley instead of Kane (2,2,6,13*2) for Ighalo in GW27 has proven to be an unmitigated disaster - and it also resulted in my having to sell Payet(13) in GW29 in order to get Siggy.

        rough

I've had 10 players including Ryan Bennet prior to this gw. Was thinking about his potential 0-1 point. Made two transfers for a hit, barkley, payet -> yaya, eriksen and put bennet on the bench,

Afterwards that heel news made me think about adding max gradel for a new hit (better than stay disappointed without player and with bennet in the first squad). Was so sure about gradel's qualities, I've been scoring over 2 per match with Gradel last year playing with Saint Etienne in FIFA's online matches. Nobody could stop him. Absolutely tremendous.

Later on I've decided to put Ayew instead, because of Villa, time for waking up and first game against Bornemouth.

That's how I finished with -8 and with no player to fight for those hits along with my pick scoring 11 points.

At the end Bennet proved me wrong and gave me those important 5 points despite my distrust.
Now wondering whether I'm only who got his points this gw. : )

        cheers

Won two H2H games 61-60 bc I replaced Dawson with Aldy instead of the cheaper Dier or Wimmer. Part of that credit goes to getting Fuchs instead of Huth 5 GWs earlier as well.

Smooth: Siggy, Arnie, Alli, Kompany, Fuchs, Kane, Vardy. When over half your team is in the points, you know is been a good week. My careful planning played dividends with a score of 71

Rough: Waking up at 10 a.m. and changing my captain from Kane to Aguero. Reasoning was, if Aguero did well and Kane blanked my careful planning would be undone. Could have been a monster week but was still a good one.

Moral: Stick to your plans and never let fear influence your decisions.

Pretty smooth all round here, changed from Aguero to Kane captaincy thanks to being inspired by maverick Andy who said never to pick the Saturday lunchtime game for captaincy and not to captain Aguero.

        Also had Siggy/Fuchs/Hart/Alli/Vardy/Toby A

I pinpointed Bournemouth's left side as an area that Swansea could exploit (due to Daniels' attacking instincts) so I transferred in their right winger, Ayew, who just happened to be injured and didn't play. Meanwhile Swansea's new right winger Barrow scored 13 points.

        Massive smooth this week.

Sold Barkley for Arnie and instantly got the points with his 9

        Captained Kane

Got 85pts which halved my rank from 426k to 220k

Rough Week: Big -12 hit to field what I thought was a decent 11. Sanchez, Lukaku, Azpi, Davies > Erikson, Kane, Williams, VVD. Moved the armband from Kane to Kun last minute (after looking at RMT). Kolarov also trolled me for the second week.

-12 for four transfer gave me 19 points so on the face of it 5 points I wouldn't of had if I didn't. GW total = 47 (so 35pts up on the board). However my ML rival did nothing, he had 9 starters and scored 53.

Dropped from 16k down to 31k in the OR

Any good punt or transfer than can improve this team for the coming GW?
Will be WCing in GW33 anyway..

      Hart
Willaims - Toby - Huth (VVD - Targett)
Mahrez - Payet - Ozil - Arnie (Alli)
      Kun - Kane - Vardy

      1FT + 1.8ITB

      Should I do:
      A) Arnie > Siggy (bench Alli)
      B) Arnie > Firmino (SOT tight at the back though)
      C) Vardy > Rondon (Punt)
      D) Save FT
      E) other tranfer?

It's a tough call. Palace have been pish but Arsenal are struggling too.

Think Luk will at least match Vardy's points total.

Speaking of WBA defenders, I'm looking at Olsson who is cheaper than the others and less injury prone (Dawson), is Olsson nailed on? I note he has been started for a lot of games and it was the other defenders giving way even if they were back in squad.

      De Gea / Elliot

      Jags / Fuchs / Simpson / Toby / Rangel

      Lingard / Silva / Eriksen / Payet / Mane

      Aguero / Vardy / Kane

Qu: Need to get rid of Mane this week, will have 7.3m to spend on a replacement.

With dgws in mind, who should I bring in?

Note: Have 2 ft, so can garner funds from selling another player.

If only there was a way Man U and Liverpool could both get knocked out of the EL

            Then youre all set!

But its not so bad. If u WC33. You can keep 4 players with single gws who dont blank in 35 etc. Its not too bad

I'm playing the game of - collecting my DGW players slowly each week (and have been the past few weeks)

I will assess if I need to use my WC for then.

(hoping not to use it till the latter GWs)

Draft as many Dgw players as you can using your ft's. I wouldn't be buying any Sgw players.

Problem is we sill don't know who is DGW player (except LIV, EVE, WHU, MUN) who must play both. Even with this knowledge we don't know who's gonna play who in exact fixtures

        2. Mahrez
        3. Ozil
        4. Yaya (due to jammy goal chances)
