Shinji Okazaki fires Leicester’s only goal as the league leaders extend their lead at the summit to five points. The Foxes register a sixth clean sheet in seven at the King Power as Rafa Benitez tastes defeat in his first match in charge of the Magpies.

Okazaki Wins it for Foxes

Leicester City restored their five-point lead at the summit of the Premier League by way of a 1-0 home win over Newcastle United.

Shinji Okazaki opened the scoring in the 25th minute with a pinpoint overhead kick, breaking his run of seven outings without a goal.

The Japanese marksman was teed up by Jamie Vardy, who notched his second assist in four starts. In spite of his creative contribution, the league’s joint-top scorer lays claim to a solitary goal in his previous six starts, denoting a downturn in form. Although the Foxes’ schedule (cry, SOU, sun) continues to throw up a host of promising fixtures, Romelu Lukaku’s purple patch (three goals and one assist in four) and imminent double Gameweeks could tempt a portion of Vardy’s 55% ownership to contemplate the switch.

Riyad Mahrez came up short for the 7% of  voters that handed him the captain’s armband. Nonetheless, the Algerian midfielder ranked joint-third among his counterparts for attempts (three) this Gameweek and netted in two of his last three away starts, which bodes well for a road clash against a Crystal Palace outfit that’s shipped the joint-most goals (23) since Gameweek 20.

Having silenced Newcastle, Leicester now boast six clean sheets in their last seven home outings. Considering that Christian Fuchs possesses a better points per game (ppg) average (4.5) than the likes of Danny Simpson (3.9) and Robert Huth (3.8), the Austrian full-back represents the prime route into the East Midlanders’ defence.

Benitez’ charges fall to defeat

Rafa Benitez was unable to inaugurate his reign in the North East with a positive result, yet Newcastle displayed shoots of improvement at the King Power Stadium.

Ultimately, the Magpies failed to score for the fifth time in seven away match-ups, illustrating their paucity of offensive spark beyond St James’ Park – indeed, the Tynesiders have tallied four fewer goals (seven) than any team on the road.

As for their defensive output, Newcastle will draw encouragement from the fact that they limited the hosts to just 10 attempts and one shot on target, given that they surrendered nine goals in their previous trio of matches. That being said, it’s difficult to imagine a scenario in which we’re attracted to a rearguard that’s conceded the joint-second-most goals (54) this term.

The Toon now embark on an agreeable pair of fixtures (SUN, nor) that will go some way to determining their chances of survival. If they can discover some semblance of attacking verve, Georginio Wijnaldum – who places joint-third for goals (nine) among midfielders – could emerge as a left-field differential. In saying that, the Dutchman managed just one attempt on goal last night, with Aleksandar Mitrovic (four shots, all in the box) and Moussa Sissoko (three close-range efforts) boasting the main threat for the visitors.

Considering a midfield upgrade, downgrading in defense.
    1 FT, 1.8 cash

    Butland (McCarthy)
    Sagna, Toby, VVD, Wolly (Francis)
    Payet, Ozil, Mahrez, Alli (Gosling)
    Kane, Aguero, Vardy

Been a while, so some feedback would be nice.

Not sure yet , I can have 12 in my team without a WC. But fee constraints and good fixtures before then make it tricky to get the remaining transfers I want. Plus I can just use WC and then use BB.

My concern with waiting to WC in GW37 is just how many teams will be left with anything to play for? Isn't it more likely those assets that have hardly missed a game this year that are popular on FPL will be rested/rotated if their team has nothing to play for??

How far is everyone willing to go to win their MLs?

There are 2 main MLs I take part in. One for money at a former employer, and the other for kudos with a group of friends. I’ve won the money league for the last 4 seasons (not difficult, given only once in those 4 seasons did anyone else break into the top 100k).

However, there are a bunch of bright guys taking part in that ML, who with a bit of guidance (say from FFS) would be very strong challengers. As a result, I’ve never joined the FFS members mini league – as I don’t want this showing up on my team page – and the curious amongst them following up to find out what my secret is.

Anyone else as paranoid? And what am I missing out on by not being part of the members mini league (apart, presumably from a HoF ranking)?

You can always spot a FFS user versus others in your league anyway if they use the site too

Yeah went well this week. We're back to "normal" now though - where planning (to a certain extent) won't account for as much.

Top 100k would still be nice considering the start I had. 50k even better.

Are there teams you have to play twice still? If so, you could count those matches as double (so you just play one game and if you win 1-0 for example, it counts as winning 2 x matches 1-0) - when I used to write for kids football years ago and there was one particularly soggy season they did this when it was clear the fixtures were going to be a nightmare to complete.

Unbelievably the league had a EGM to do just that but put it to a vote of doing that or carrying on....The carrying on vote won by 21-20...

That's all the teams who have access to Astro pitches who have played most of their games 21 against all those who haven't been able to play on waterlogged mud 20......I'm more than a bit miffed.

It'll get laughed at on here but after much travel I can confirm the South coast of England and northern France are the best places in Europe IMO.

Do you mean why did I ask?....if so....Sometimes folk who live in hotter climes don't actually want a hot holiday in the med. sometimes they are happier to escape the heat to our gentler climes.

              Oh I see.

We this country have some of the most gentle and beautiful countryside I'm the world...and loads of history to explore. Same for Nortjern France.

Personally I'm no longer interested in boiling my head in Spain and the like...I want a lot more than that.

Apart from Jaywick. I went to Puglia (the heel of Italy) last summer. Lovely place, quiet, very barren, different than say Tuscany, Amalfi Coast etc etc. Great tucker, less touristy, very hot, some beautiful hilltop towns and a few UNESCO sights and some of the best beaches in Italy. But be warned, hire a tank, we had our car broken into while stopping of at a beach travelling from one villa to another and we were not the only ones with this story to tell, all luggage, clothes, food, booze and passports lifted cue a night in Rome and trip to Embassy. Other than that we had a great time, cheap Ryanair flights and top value when you get there.

Well aware it's not full of sandy beaches, I'd recommend a stay in the calderas on Santorini. Especially for a honeymoon. Hard to top in that respect imo. Some really romantic hotels with stunning sunsets. Does require a ~10 min taxi to get to different beaches and they are mostly lava and pebbles. Still though, you should check it out.

Why is everyone thinking Siggy is the best armband option for the coming week?

    At most he'll score a goal and 3BAPs = 9pts!

Many others can do much better given the fixtures..
Kane can easily get himself another brace, Kun will most probably score in the derby, Mahrez and Payet are also in form and can both score easily.

Why the bangwagon for Siggy(c) ?

    Hart
    Toby Ivan (VVD)
    sig payet ozil Alli mahrez
    Kun kane vardy

As I have Ivan I'm considering benching payet, though starting both isn't the end the world.

Can aoa and ditch VVD to start payet, but it's too marginal a decision and id rather save it when I really might need it.

Surprised by VVD high projection vs Liverpool- my other option is to ditch him for someone with a better matchup. Or bank my 1ft and start wolly or Simpson.

In pursuit of a full squad for GW30, I have created a terrible benching dilemma!

    Forster
    Ivanovic | Williams | Cathcart
    Özil | Eriksen (V) | Mahrez | Sigurdsson | Alli
    Agüero | Kane (C)
    Hennessey | Vardy | Simpson | Daniels

Do you think I’ve got it right?

I think it boils down to benching:

    - Sigurdsson or Vardy?
    - Cathcart or Simpson?
