Shinji Okazaki fires Leicester’s only goal as the league leaders extend their lead at the summit to five points. The Foxes register a sixth clean sheet in seven at the King Power as Rafa Benitez tastes defeat in his first match in charge of the Magpies.

Okazaki Wins it for Foxes

Leicester City restored their five-point lead at the summit of the Premier League by way of a 1-0 home win over Newcastle United.

Shinji Okazaki opened the scoring in the 25th minute with a pinpoint overhead kick, breaking his run of seven outings without a goal.

The Japanese marksman was teed up by Jamie Vardy, who notched his second assist in four starts. In spite of his creative contribution, the league’s joint-top scorer lays claim to a solitary goal in his previous six starts, denoting a downturn in form. Although the Foxes’ schedule (cry, SOU, sun) continues to throw up a host of promising fixtures, Romelu Lukaku’s purple patch (three goals and one assist in four) and imminent double Gameweeks could tempt a portion of Vardy’s 55% ownership to contemplate the switch.

Riyad Mahrez came up short for the 7% of  voters that handed him the captain’s armband. Nonetheless, the Algerian midfielder ranked joint-third among his counterparts for attempts (three) this Gameweek and netted in two of his last three away starts, which bodes well for a road clash against a Crystal Palace outfit that’s shipped the joint-most goals (23) since Gameweek 20.

Having silenced Newcastle, Leicester now boast six clean sheets in their last seven home outings. Considering that Christian Fuchs possesses a better points per game (ppg) average (4.5) than the likes of Danny Simpson (3.9) and Robert Huth (3.8), the Austrian full-back represents the prime route into the East Midlanders’ defence.

Benitez’ charges fall to defeat

Rafa Benitez was unable to inaugurate his reign in the North East with a positive result, yet Newcastle displayed shoots of improvement at the King Power Stadium.

Ultimately, the Magpies failed to score for the fifth time in seven away match-ups, illustrating their paucity of offensive spark beyond St James’ Park – indeed, the Tynesiders have tallied four fewer goals (seven) than any team on the road.

As for their defensive output, Newcastle will draw encouragement from the fact that they limited the hosts to just 10 attempts and one shot on target, given that they surrendered nine goals in their previous trio of matches. That being said, it’s difficult to imagine a scenario in which we’re attracted to a rearguard that’s conceded the joint-second-most goals (54) this term.

The Toon now embark on an agreeable pair of fixtures (SUN, nor) that will go some way to determining their chances of survival. If they can discover some semblance of attacking verve, Georginio Wijnaldum – who places joint-third for goals (nine) among midfielders – could emerge as a left-field differential. In saying that, the Dutchman managed just one attempt on goal last night, with Aleksandar Mitrovic (four shots, all in the box) and Moussa Sissoko (three close-range efforts) boasting the main threat for the visitors.

Not sure whether to save or just make a FT as it is short term anyway?
Not having Alli is causing a bit of stress.. Eriksen just lacks the urgency.

    VVD Toby Simpson

    Silva Mahrez Siggy Alli

    Kane Aguero Vardy

Subs: McCarthy Ozil Belllerin R.Bennett - Ozil over Silva? Bellerin over Simpson? the other mids i want to play

Anyone considering avoiding Chelsea players? Out of the both cups last week and the Champions league spot in the league is out of reach at the managers own admission. Furthermore, their best player who helped Chelsea put their good run of form on faces a ban.

Their club captain and leader leaves the club at the end of the season, therefore he has no incentive left to lift the players.

A lot of money tied up with Cech, their defensive rock, injured and a striker who doesn't score (Giroud 2 goals in 12 games; those 2 goals were against Hull)

Wellbeck stands out, though his minutes are limited with Giroud around.

I'm not selling them, but I cant remember a season Arsenal looked so out of form and devoid of ideas. They have a serious structural issue in the team and too many out of form and under pressure players.

Selling Sanchez makes sense if you need the money - selling Ozil doesnt.

Very much agree about the structural problems in the team, that midfield seems unbalanced and has been stretching back to the second part of last season.

Why are so many selling Arnie, who has 24 points from his last 3 home games? Many have benching headaches this week, in which case Arnie is a legitimate option for resting, and then Stoke play at home to Swansea. Firmino, who seems to be the transfer of choice for many, plays away to a stubborn Southampton defence after a Thursday night match before playing at home to the best away side in the league (Spurs). Surely, for those not playing or able to WC, it makes sense to swap Arnie for Firm after Stoke play Swansea and Liverpool play Spurs?

Bournemouth Goals Conceded in last 10 = 13 (1.3 goals conceded per game)
    Eriksen Goals in last 10 = 3 (0.3 goals per game) + 2 assists

Don't write Bournemouth off. Five midfielders I would want over Eriksen this game week would be Mahrez, Sigurdson, Arnautovic, Payet, Firmino
(note: I own only 3 of these)

You need to sort by matches due to blanks - that gives the most accurate fixtures. Remember over the last four Gameweeks four teams missed a fixture in GWK 27 and in GWK 37 ten missed out.

Sort by matches with this is still chuckle worthy, but not a full on laugh out loud.

Firmino have been scoring for fun 7 goals 4 assists in 10
Southampton have conceded to Stoke, Sunderland and Bournemouth in their last 3

Anyone think the bench boost chip is overrated?

You get an extra goalie, 2 defenders and a midfielder. (x2 dgw)

I will most likely keep Mahrez so that leaves a goalkeeper and 2 defenders (x2 dgw)

I would also possibly rather have Fuchs and Toby than, say, Rojo and PVA. (x2 dgw)

So my bench boost all rests on Robles, Fuchs, Toby and Mahrez - hardly going to score massively is it?

Average bench points is approximately 15 per GW, x2 is 30 points, although more points are likely if bench options are specifically chosen for GW. 30+ points will have a significant effect on our OR.
