Shinji Okazaki fires Leicester’s only goal as the league leaders extend their lead at the summit to five points. The Foxes register a sixth clean sheet in seven at the King Power as Rafa Benitez tastes defeat in his first match in charge of the Magpies.

Okazaki Wins it for Foxes

Leicester City restored their five-point lead at the summit of the Premier League by way of a 1-0 home win over Newcastle United.

Shinji Okazaki opened the scoring in the 25th minute with a pinpoint overhead kick, breaking his run of seven outings without a goal.

The Japanese marksman was teed up by Jamie Vardy, who notched his second assist in four starts. In spite of his creative contribution, the league’s joint-top scorer lays claim to a solitary goal in his previous six starts, denoting a downturn in form. Although the Foxes’ schedule (cry, SOU, sun) continues to throw up a host of promising fixtures, Romelu Lukaku’s purple patch (three goals and one assist in four) and imminent double Gameweeks could tempt a portion of Vardy’s 55% ownership to contemplate the switch.

Riyad Mahrez came up short for the 7% of  voters that handed him the captain’s armband. Nonetheless, the Algerian midfielder ranked joint-third among his counterparts for attempts (three) this Gameweek and netted in two of his last three away starts, which bodes well for a road clash against a Crystal Palace outfit that’s shipped the joint-most goals (23) since Gameweek 20.

Having silenced Newcastle, Leicester now boast six clean sheets in their last seven home outings. Considering that Christian Fuchs possesses a better points per game (ppg) average (4.5) than the likes of Danny Simpson (3.9) and Robert Huth (3.8), the Austrian full-back represents the prime route into the East Midlanders’ defence.

Benitez’ charges fall to defeat

Rafa Benitez was unable to inaugurate his reign in the North East with a positive result, yet Newcastle displayed shoots of improvement at the King Power Stadium.

Ultimately, the Magpies failed to score for the fifth time in seven away match-ups, illustrating their paucity of offensive spark beyond St James’ Park – indeed, the Tynesiders have tallied four fewer goals (seven) than any team on the road.

As for their defensive output, Newcastle will draw encouragement from the fact that they limited the hosts to just 10 attempts and one shot on target, given that they surrendered nine goals in their previous trio of matches. That being said, it’s difficult to imagine a scenario in which we’re attracted to a rearguard that’s conceded the joint-second-most goals (54) this term.

The Toon now embark on an agreeable pair of fixtures (SUN, nor) that will go some way to determining their chances of survival. If they can discover some semblance of attacking verve, Georginio Wijnaldum – who places joint-third for goals (nine) among midfielders – could emerge as a left-field differential. In saying that, the Dutchman managed just one attempt on goal last night, with Aleksandar Mitrovic (four shots, all in the box) and Moussa Sissoko (three close-range efforts) boasting the main threat for the visitors.

    1 FT and 2.7 ITB

Kompany - Williams - Fuchs (Azpi Dier)

Mahrez - Alli - Arnie - Siggy (Payet)

    Aguero - Kane - Vardy

    Any ideas here?

Does my opinion need to be changed?
My opinion is that now isn't the time to get rid of Arsenal players, as they have great fixtures from Watford onwards and have traditionally turned around their (predictable) title collapses.
Yours is different, not sure which goalposts I have moved.

I'm not really out to get you at all. Realized that I might have been a tad aggressive.
            Premise: Ars finish strong
Ars have been playing bad lately, played bad Sunday, and you declare that NOW the finish run starts.
Or is it gonna start after the Barca game?

I agree, the fixtures are getting better. I just need some action from Giroud or non-comedy CB's before I start believing in the Ars strong finish thingy of yours

I'm not saying now is when the finish starts. The finish to a season can be defined differently by anyone, but from my memory Arsenal do very well in March/April/May usually. For me Everton is another bad fixture, as the last 4 or 5 have been for them.
The great fixtures begin with Watford and I think it is the perfect fixture for them to begin their turnaround.
For what its worth in Arsenals case their "finish" is when they somehow manage to screw up being within a shout of the title 😀

    Forster
    Dier Daniels Huth
    Firmino Alli Siggy Mahrez
    Kane(c) Vardy Kun

    Hennessey Ozil Targett Kolarov

the past 2 gameweeks have confirmed it for me that i will not be wildcarding in gw33.
I do not want to loose my spurs and leicester assets as they are going for the title
    heres an example:
In the last 2 gameweeks i have owned toby, alli and kane
toby has got me 14 points, alli 14 and Kane 19.

    Morning FFS!

At the start of the season I normally only select 4 decent midfielders to save myself a headache every week, but with the peformances of such cheap midfielders this hasn't been much of an option this year!

who to bench out of this midfield? im currently playing Ozil over Alli purely on nametag over form/fixture...is this a mistake? thing is, Everton will not keep a clean sheet so a part of me thinks Ozil could get his standard assist...what do you guys think?

    Wolly, Huth, Dawson (Smith, VvD)

    Which option would you choose?

    A. Bench Arnie (wat) and play both Simpson (crp) and Ivanovic (WHM)

    B. Use AoA and play Arnie and bench one of Simpson or Ivanovic

    Thanks

    Which to do?
    A) Arnie > Firmino (no other fool players)
    B) Vardy > Lukaku (have Jags already)
    C) Jags > Kompany (have Hart and Aguero already)

    Merci!

p.s. Leaning towards B only just over A

Because if you are WC'ing in GW33, the players you are bringing in only need to be considered for the next 2 GWs, which makes a lot of difference to the advice.

Lets say I'm not WC in GW33...
Also I am going with form of players (Firmino/Lukaku), Arnie is hit and miss and Lei looks like they will be grinding out 1-0 till the win the league

I have been doing my best to bring in DGW players for the past 3 or 4 weeks now...

Team looks in okay shape. currently have 2FT, I will see how my team is shaped up before making any WC decisions.

Waiting till the stupid DGW fixtures are announced before I decide when to use WC/BB/TC, until then its business as usual; sweating all week on 1 FT 🙂

Can anyone give me the names of any teams that are absolutely 100% certain to play a DGW in GW34?

    if so, who?

Nothing is certain, but very likely at least Man U, West Ham, Palace, Everton, Watford and Liverpool will play two fixtures in GW34. Liverpool are the only one of these with a game in GW35 as things stand.

Man U and West Ham are less likely than the other 4, as their cup replay date has yet to be confirmed.

Less likely yes, but I would still have them down as very likely.

Depends on whether the replay takes place in a European week or now, I expect it will, but a triple GW37 for both West ham and Man U can not be completely ruled out.

A lot of people have this front 8? Who to bench?

    Ozil, Payet, Alli, Mahrez, Siggy
    Kun, Vardy, Kane

This is my exact front 8 too.

I am now leaning towards Alli but Ozil is in close contention

      What are you thinking?

    Hi guys,

I don't have a WC to play, so need to start getting in DGW players now.

what do ye think of these 2 free transfers this GW ?

    Eriksen > Firmino

    Vardy > Lukaku

    Tnks
