We pop out to the Weekly Shop for our final Wednesday article, as we analyse the player lists of our partner games to highlight the likely targets that will make up our own weekly squads.

As per usual, the player analysis is split into two sections: I’ll break down the key targets that no squad can do without in “Better Buys”, before seeking out those one-shot “Poundstretcher” prospects that can provide us points, whilst freeing up funds.

For this week’s selection, we’re focusing on the FantasyBet and DraftKing player lists.

Better Buys

Given that Crystal Palace have lost their last five consecutive home matches, conceding 12 goals in the process, they face a tough task to halt Leicester City’s charge for the title as the league leaders visit Selhurst Park this weekend. Against Newcastle, Kasper Schmeichel (FantasyBet 4.5m, Draftkings $4,000) kept a third clean sheet in four league outings, while investment in the usual outfield assets also looks set to continue returning points.

Craig Dawson (FantasyBet 5m, Draftkings $4,200) is expected to be fit for West Brom’s encounter with Norwich City as he looks to add to his three-goal haul this season. If the right-back misses out, though, Jonas Olsson (FantasyBet 4m, Draftkings $2,200) or Gareth McCauley (FantasyBet 5m, Draftkings $2,100) could be worth considering. Alex Neil’s side are struggling for goals, having failed to net in five of their last seven matches, so clean sheet points look on the cards for the Baggies’ rearguard.

Swansea may have fallen to defeat to in-form Bournemouth but Francesco Guidolin has overseen a revival in the Welsh side’s fortunes of late, picking up back-to-back wins prior to the encounter at Dean Court. A home tie with basement-dwellers Aston Villa is a promising opportunity for the Swans to distance themselves from a relegation scrap and they offer us strong options at either end of the pitch. Ashley Williams (FantasyBet 4.5m) has been the stand-out defender, picking up 20 points from seven clean sheets, whilst Gylfi Sigurdsson (FantasyBet 7m) has been the main goal threat, scoring seven times in 11 appearances since the turn of the year.

Harry Kane’s (FantasyBet 9.5m) season appears to be on an upward trajectory as Spurs head into the run-in with a chance of silverware. The forward’s double against Aston Villa leaves him one strike short of the 20-goal mark ahead of a home clash with a Bournemouth outfit that’s kept only three clean sheets on their travels. Encouragingly, Kane has produced double the number of shots on target than Sergio Aguero (12 to six) over their respective last four matches.

Poundstretchers

Watford’s win over Arsenal in the FA cup could kick-start their league form after a recent run of inconsistent displays. Considering that eight of the Hornets’ ten shut-outs this campaign have arrived at Vicarage Road, Heurelho Gomes (FantasyBet 4.5m, Draftkings $3,800) and his backline clearly prefer home comforts, and the visit of a Stoke side that have blanked in half of their last eight away ties bodes well for the Brazilian shot-stopper.

Kevin Wimmer (FantasyBet 4.5m) makes another appearance in the bargain picks – the defender helped Spurs to a first clean sheet in five at Villa Park and remains a budget route into the meanest defence in the division. Eric Lamela (FantasyBet 6.5m) may not have the allure of more obvious picks such as Dele Alli (FantasyBet 5m) and Christian Eriksen (FantasyBet 8.5m) but the Argentine is quietly having a productive season with three goals and five assists tallied so far. Over the last six, he’s recorded far more shots in the box (12) than Eriksen (five) and Alli three), despite registering less pitch time ahead of the home clash against Bournemouth.

Rafa Benitez’s appointment should make the Tyne-Wear Derby an even more compelling clash, with both clubs’ top-flight status hanging in the balance. Jermain Defoe (FantasyBet 5m) picked up an eleventh goal of the term to secure a valuable point for the Black Cats at Southampton – the veteran forward has scored five of Sunderland’s last seven away goals and appears the most likely to dent Newcastle’s hopes. Wahbi Khazri (FantasyBet 6m) also continues to impress – a total of 39 crosses, 14 chances created and 11 attempts on goal over six appearances suggests further points are incoming if he can shrug off a knock.

We now turn to a pair of assets from a West Brom attack that has been surprisingly prolific of late. Midfielder Craig Gardner (FantasyBet 5m, Draftkings $4,200) has scored twice and served up an assist over the last three, while forward Salomon Rondon (FantasyBet 6.5m, Draftkings $4,200) has recorded four goals and an assist in five starts for the Baggies. Both could prove good value with opponents Norwich yet to keep a shut-out in 15 away ties.

Diego Costa’s two-match suspension brings Bertrand Traore (FantasyBet 5m, Draftkings $3,300) into our thinking once again. The youngster was on the bench for the weekend defeat to Everton but having scored four goals and picked up an assist over five outings in the league and FA Cup for the Blues, he could be poised to lead the line as West Ham visit Stamford Bridge.

These are the contenders for my weekly contest lineups heading into the midweek fixtures. Tomorrow I’ll also bring you up to date on my progress in FantasyBet, as I continue my quest for profit in the 2015/16 campaign.

Anyone think Flanagan could be a good option from Liverpool at 4.2?

Would be nice if Moreno was out as it would make him pretty much nailed on I'd think?

Still Cech & Migs for me.......although Elliot/Robles are great value.

DDG or Smalling remains the only Utd options, for me, Martial at a push if he starts scoring and Rooney still out

      1. Milner4eva
        • 13 Years

Cech and Migs fantastic on paper but are you not concerned that it might be a bit too pricey?

        1. Jafooli
          • 13 Years
          9 years, 8 months ago

Possibly, but really want a strong showing from my GKs over the DGW.

          Migs (33) - Cech/Migs (34) - Cech (35) then might move one to Adrian for 37

          1. Milner4eva
            • 13 Years
            9 years, 8 months ago

True, it's easy to build up a lot of pre-DGW enthusiasm for keepers like Elliot and Robles, but yeah the more I think about it, the more I can see myself suffering a major case of buyer's regret as soon as the deadline hits.

But you never know really, it could all go the other way if they do a Hull and collect 12714 points each. It's really hard to call, but I do agree with it being important to have a good GK either side of the double (in 33 and 35). That's why I'm almost certain to be going with Migs (STO in 33 and NEW in 35) +1 other.

Have you thought any more about which SGW players are gonna be in your WC squad Jaf? Still on Simpson/Fuchs, Mahrez and Alli here. In an ideal world I would like to roll the dice and ditch one of the mids, but I just don't see it working out well unfortunately.

I'm leaning towards this pairing through default more than anything.

I currently own Elliot (great fixtures plus possible Benitez effect)

And Migs will probably be picked over Robles for gametime security as Everton could easily bring back Howard for a game

Currently Ozil - Firmino - Payet.

Alli wil become Antonio for DGW37 (or before). Mahrez remains until Leicester win the league and then might be released.

The only mids I'm worried about not having are:

Sanchez (price & form off putting) - Silva (carrying an injury & two away games off putting) - KdB (might only be just back from injury & two away games) - Countinho (will have Firmino as cover) - Barkley (a bit meh). That's about it really.....

I've been playing around with drafts and as my TV is pretty crap I can't get a very good WCDGWBB team out. Aguero is hampering me, but he has to be in the team due to high ownership and the fixtures around the DGW. So now I'm considering the DGW36 for WC and BB in 37 as I will be able to drop Aguero (sot, ARS, swa) and be able to more evenly distribute the cash. Just a thought.

One of my arguments for WC36. Much easier to get out a strong starting 15 without Kun in the team and there's no way I'm shipping him before a DGW.

I'd be wary with Funes Mori.

Everton v Arsenal (Saturday, 12:45 GMT)

Roberto Martinez has just sat down for his news conference ahead of Saturday's match against Arsenal and has opened with an answer on defender John Stones.

"We are going into the final 10 games of the seasons, we are in the FA Cup semi-finals, it has been a long season," he said.

"But if you look at the numbers John - at the age of 21 - has played 75% of the minutes in the Premier League. He is young man who is developing all the time. He has been out of the last couple of games with an injury, but he is a vital part of our plans."

Thoughts on Howard getting some gametime too as he'll likely be off to the MLS in the summer? Lukaku your only nailed on player ?

I think he'll probably get the final home game, I may chance it with Robles though (or go Jagielka). We have a few players who you would expect to play (Jagielka, Robles, Barkley etc.), but yeah, Lukaku's the only one who never misses a game. That may change if we get a TGW, or if Martinez just ignores the league and focuses on the cup. Difficult to say.

Basically, I know as much as you do. 😉

It's a nightmare trying to predict us, I never expected Deulofeu, who was our best player, to suddenly disappear off the face of the earth. Most Evertonians find Martinez's decisions hugely bizarre, so God knows what he'll do.

There's a hulked post in here somewhere. I'm vary wary of Everton players with the exception of Lukaku. Particularly playing a draft league game like I do. It leaves me to the impression that Martinez doesn't really have a clue what he's doing. What' the deal with Stones?

That's the impression all Everton fans have unfortunately, I don't think he has a clue what he's doing, and this FA Cup run is papering over the cracks. We've regressed hugely since he came in, bar his 1st great season (built on Moyes's foundations).

It's a shame, because his belief in style of play is admirable (if ill-considered), and his recruitment has largely been excellent, but his game management is appalling. A Martinez/Moyes hybrid would be perfect!

The deal with Stones, I presume, can only be what I posted above. No reason to really suspect anything else (though I don't expect him to stay in summer). He has been poor recently though.

Its pretty much impossible to have 4 mids with dgw34 and no blank in 35.

Firmino - Payet are not going nowhere from my gw34 team. Its just feels madness to ship one of them out in gw35 than bring back for gw37

    Morning.

    Butland Hennessey
    Moreno Dier Ward Simpson Smith
    Mahrez Sterling Sanchez Alli Sigurdsson
    Kun Kane Vardy

    1 FT 1,2 ITB

    A) Save
    B) Vardy > Lukaku
    C) Sterling > Firmino
    D) Moreno > Williams

Think D is the best option, as Moreno is now also an injury doubt.

Any comments? I'll WC before GW 34.

The man had a bonus to be paid provided he was in charge first day of the season. Asked for his bonus early then quit, then lied about why he quit.

He tried to buy siggy and caller, both clubs had fees agreed with us, both plays said no, not our fault.

So guys in a bit of a conundrum.

My rival is nearly 50points ahead and has used his WC but has his BB and TC. He currently only has 2 players for DGW 34 (Aguero and Payet) so maximum DGW players he can have without spend is 6.

I still have my WC and also BB and TC and plan to WC 33 and BB 34. Would you say I should have enough to catch up with him in this period or is he still favourite to be ahead?

Thanks guys your thought would be appreciated.

      Catchable for sure.

How many DGW players do you have for 34? If you can trump him you may be best to WC in 36 and BB for 15 in 37

        I would only have 3. I am set on WC'ing 33 and BB 34.

will use the next few weeks for short term punts.

Was all set to bring Siggy in for a punt this GW, but the thought struck me to get Firmino in this GW. Better fixtures after this GW, and will be good for the DGW's

So with two FT's, the question is:

    A) Arnie -> Siggy

    B) Arnie -> Firmino

    C) hold

    cheers
