There’s plenty for us to ponder this Monday evening as we assess the lessons learned over the weekend’s ten fixtures. Riyad Mahrez and Harry Kane have the form to punish any potential sellers with one eye on the double Gameweeks, City’s malaise shows no signs of ending, Everton’s lack of consistency is a real concern, whilst Arsenal’s young wide man may have played his way into wildcard consideration.

Selling Mahrez could prove costly….
It’s 16 goals and 11 assists for the season now for Leicester’s wide man after he bagged the weekend winner at Palace. Although many are looking to bring in 15 players with a pair of fixtures in time for double Gameweek 24, can we really risk selling a player that’s averaged 7.2 points per game so far? With a trip to Sunderland in Gameweek 33 and home clash against Swansea in Gameweek 35 – at a time where six sides are without a fixture – Mahrez’ current form may well retain his place in our wildcard teams as the Foxes look to cement their spot at the summit.

…and Kane looks undroppable….
The Tottenham frontman is also stepping up his output as Mauricio Pochettino’s men remain in the race for the crown. Kane’s two goals and assist against Bournemouth helped him to a 16-point haul and, allied with a double at Villa, served up back-to-back double-figure returns for the first time this term. Granted, the fixtures are hardly straightforward (liv, MUN, sto, WBA, che) but Kane’s red-hot streak is clearly making many think twice over parting company.

Everton’s inconsistency remains an issue….
With nine matches still to play in the final seven Gameweeks, Everton’s home clash against Arsenal afforded us an early opportunity to scout their main men ahead of the double Gameweeks. The Toffees failed to convince, though – a 2-0 Goodison loss was the second time in three they’ve been unable to score in front of their own fans, whilst Roberto Martinez’ men have now failed to keep a clean sheet in each of the last four. Whilst Romelu Lukaku remains a key target for most, his team-mates are struggling to show they are worthy of our consideration.

Iwobi’s on the radar….
Handed a start against Barcelona in midweek, the youngster kept his place as Arsene Wenger’s side made their way to Goodison. Iwobi vindicated his manager’s decision by netting the second in a 2-0 win to strengthen his claim for a run of first-team outings from this point onwards. Priced at just 4.5 and listed as a midfielder, the teenager is bound to spark a bandwagon if he can hold off the challenge of Theo Walcott and Joel Campbell for double Gameweek 34.

The Hammers lone striker role remains up for grabs….
Rewarded for his goal and assist off the bench at Everton with a first start since Gameweek 14, Diafra Sakho was unable to take his chance in West Ham’s stalemate at Stamford Bridge. Just one minute after replacing the Senegal striker, Andy Carroll was amongst the goals as Slaven Bilic’s “Plan B” immediately reaped reward against the champions. Although the Hammers’ assets will surely play a part in our wildcards as a result of their pair of doubles, the competition for minutes up front looks set to steer our attentions away from their strikers.

The Canaries are building momentum….
It’s back-to-back clean sheets for Alex Neil’s men, with a 1-0 win at West Brom helping them clamber two points clear of the drop zone. Norwich’s triumph over Tony Pulis’ men came without the likes of Nathan Redmond and Steven Naismith, with a 4-4-2 set-up proving decisive at the Hawthorns. With three vital fixtures to follow (NEW, cpl, SUN) and a double in Gameweek 35 (MUN, WAT), the Carrow Road club may yet prove an unlikely source of Fantasy returns as they look to save their top-flight status.

Mitrovic could be Rafa’s main man….
The Serbian has now started both matches since the appointment of Rafa Benitez and fired a precious equaliser at home to Sunderland to salvage a derby draw. Analysing the numbers, Mitrovic clearly looks key to their survival bid – he sits second amongst forwards for touches in the box and joint-top for efforts in the opposition box in the last two Gameweeks. Having also found the net against the likes of United, City and Spurs, the 6.2-priced striker may well prove a canny differential for those willing to gamble with their three-man frontlines.

The Saints still have plenty to play for….
A stunning 3-2 comeback win over Liverpool took the St Mary’s side to just four points off fourth spot yesterday. Granted, their lack of a double Gameweeks will ensure than few, if any, will be tempted by weekend scorers Graziano Pelle (three goals and two assists in two Gameweeks) or Sadio Mane but with their dreams of Champions League football still very much alive, the Saints clearly have the form to play a part in the run-in. Those holding Leicester defenders will be hoping the Foxes can curtail Koeman’s charges as they head to the King Power next time out.

Our Liverpool options are on the up….
With Roberto Firmino sidelined through a hamstring injury, Philippe Coutinho and Daniel Sturridge served a timely reminder of their capabilities by bagging a goal apiece at Southampton. Although Firmino remains the standout option for many ahead of Liverpool’s two doubles, yesterday’s teamsheet – where Coutinho and Sturridge started for the second time in three days – also suggests that rotation may not be quite as rife as we anticipated over the run-in. With Adam Lallana now sitting on three goals and as many assists in his last six league outings, the case for looking beyond Firmino is gathering pace.

Pep’s arrival can’t come soon enough for City….
A 1-0 home reverse to United means that the Etihad side have won just three of 11 matches in all competitions since confirming the Spaniard’s summer arrival. In terms of league outings, City have played seven times and scored more than a single goal on one occasion over that period – a 4-0 thrashing of basement-dwellers Villa in Gameweek 29. With Joe Hart and Raheem Sterling adding to Manuel Pellegrini’s injury concerns, City’s worrying lack of form may well see many opt against loading up on their main men ahead of the double.

United’s defence may be the way to go….
Whilst Marcus Rashford hogged the headlines with a derby winner over City, United’s lack of impact in the final third – two goals in the last three Gameweeks – allied with the imminent return of Wayne Rooney, dents the youngster’s Fantasy prospects. Instead, yesterday’s 1-0 win earned the Red Devils a fourteenth clean sheet of the season and strengthened the case for considering their defenders in our wildcard plans. With back-to-back home clashes against Villa and Palace in Gameweek 34, the appeal of Chris Smalling and David de Gea is gaining momentum after another resilient rearguard display.

    dgw 34 = 15 player

    gw 35 = 10 players(but will use a FT to make it 11)

dgw 37 = 8 players after ft used in gw 35

3 FT to make it 11 dgw players for dgw 37

    0.00 itb afterwards.

    Robles / DDG

    Sakho, Clichy, Gabriel, Rojo. Moreno

(barkley or lennon), Milner, KDB, Payet, Ozil

    Kaku, Kun, Welbeck

    Opinions would be welcome

        • 10 Years
        9 years, 8 months ago

Yes well it would work, will just bring in a keeper. Described ti wrong. Will be 8 for dgw 37 not including the second keeper. So 3 FT to make 11 and the additional to bring in Forster who is against Villa who should be down by then.

          • 15 Years

Still not convinced. You need to lose a DGW player to get a GK in GW35.

            • 10 Years
            9 years, 8 months ago

Yes, but I'm playing BB in gw 34 so only need one dgw gk for 37.

The dgw 37 players will be:

            DDG

            Sakho/Rojo/Moreno

            Barkley/Milner/Payet

            Kaku

Which is 8 but I'll have 4 FT. So 3 to make this 11 and 1 for the gk in 35 - Forster.

            My 35 team should be:

            Forster

            Sahko/Clichy/Gabriel/Moreno

            Milner/KDB/Ozil/Willian

            Kun/Welbeck

Once the team above has played in 35 I have 2 FT left with 2 dgw 37 players needed to make 11 in gw 37

      Isn't that 9 GW35 players and 10 after the transfer ?

It is, I described it wrongly. I have a spare FT for Forster. Leaving me with willian probably coming in and 2 FT left. So 9 DGW for 37, 11 for 35 after those 2 FT with 2 FT left to play

Life is boring if you don't take a risk 😀

Welbeck just impressed me so much when I saw him at the weekend. I'd get Iwobi in too if I thought he would play, not sure he will consistently. Gabriel is a really poor defender but he has Kosc next to him in 2 home fixtures against 2 low scoring sides.

    My current DGW Bankers:

    Arsenal - Bellerin, Monreal, Ozil
    Liverpool - Mignolet, Coutinho, Firmino
Man Utd - DDG, Smalling, Martial
    West Ham - Cresswell, Payet

£27.6m to fill the remaining 4 spots... likely to come from a combination of: Dawson or Fuchs - Wijnaldum or Mahrez (SV £6.6m) - 2 of Kane (SV £10.1m), Lukaku, Rondon, Deeney, Berahino

Deliberately avoiding Aguero and Man City... look ok?

Where you getting 6 outfield players from? 1 of my 5 blankers is a GK (DDG) so I have 1GK and 3 outfield blankers on my bench for GW35 (after I've used my 2FT's)

5-2 = 3 outfield players. Correct amount to sit on a bench.

You need a dark sens of humour. This one is about as dark as I recall in any comedy anywhere. Probably a bit too dark

In the case of taking the p out of folk with Down Syndrome I do as far as I'm concerned. He's free to say what he likes and he's also free to live with the repercussions of dong it. I seriously hate any notion of that sort of talk about disabilities and I'm not afraid of fighting their corner.

“The Clifton Suspension Bridge was built for someone like you. The fact that you can drive cars across it is a bonus. So do the decent thing and leave your keys in the car so someone can shift it afterwards….and please don’t call in saying i’m encouraging people to kill themselves (again). I’m suggesting that one person throw himself off Clifton Suspension Bridge, because he is and hopefully soon to be was, a very unpleasant individual….a bit like Jamiroquai…”

      DDG / Mignolet
      Bellerin / Koscielny / Sagna / Clyne / Rojo
Ozil / Payet Firmino / Barkley / Mahrez
      Lukaku / Aguero / Rashford

All chips in hand and hovering around 1k overall so really want to get this right. Also could a case be made for pulling the trigger on that team now? Looks pretty decent for this gameweek.

Yes, but to make it work you need a couple of Sunderland players on your WC and play them in GW35 against Arsenal.

Rooney only played as lone striker because they really didn't have another option. I think both he and LVG must know that's not his position anymore.

              Still a good player.

The bigger problem is that for as long as he remains at the club he is too big a player...he's in the way. I'd be much happier at Spurs with a young Kane and Alli than LVG being stuck with Rooney. He won't improve now for sure...

The way Rashford checked past Demichelis for his goal was quick but really clever.

He knew he had Demichelis on toast.

Rooney couldnt do that or get into the spot which should've won the stonewall pen.

      Let's be honest here

None of us know for sure who will drop for Rooney, with one exception

      It won't be Martial

I don't think it will be Mata either and my gut says it won't be Lingard, but I have no evidence to say it definitely won't be

But one thing I do know, if you get Lingard or Rashford due to price, you have the risk they don't start in the DGW

with Rooney fit, Martial and Rooney are the only 100% nailed on options in the United attack

Let's. To forget Rashford only got in because of injuries. Rooney straight back in, something has to give.

He could play no.10 but Lingard was already playing pre-Rooney injury and Mata tends to play too.

Martial played CF at one stage with Rooney behind but pre-injury it was Rooney up front and Martial left. That'll continue once Rooney is back IMO.

Rashford is still young and has suddenly played a lot of games too.

So what's the option pick a player based on his name and reputation but drop the player who's actually doing something?

Football is a young man's game at 18 playing games is no problem, playing lots of games is no problem either.

                Try that at Rooney's age.

I'll say that Rashford should continue, he may not but he should.

I captained Aguero too. Benched Payet and my three defenders scored 0 points between them.

Plus, you're probably 500k places, at least, ahead of me. I hope you feel a small bit better now 🙂

My potential WC team in GW 33

      Robles Foster
      Bellerin Moreno Darmian Rojo Ogbonna
      Ozil Coutinho Payet Lennon Mahrez
      Sturridge Wellbeck Aguero

      Opinions?

Sturridge too expensive when no guarantees he'll play two days after 2nd leg against Dortmund. Darmian and Moreno have competition from Flanagan and Valencia. I feel like Lennon has had his run also already.

One thing is for sure. We really need Rooney to start in gw32 to have an idea of lineups

Won't make any difference Andy. LVG has already made the noises about him being young and all that stuff. We won't know from one week to the next.

If he starts at 10 behind Rashford it at least tells us he trusts him a bit even with rooney back

I doubt he trusts youngsters that much either.. He will play Rooney and sub rashford on.. Super sub time.

You doubt van Gaal trusts youngsters? You couldn't be more wrong there.

On top of the high amount of youth players he's chucked into first-team squads this season, he's repeatedly said this season that he's not keen on having a huge squad of endless senior players because the youth players don't get their chance to develop.

Probably explains why he gutted the first-team squad in the summer. He's actually got huge trust in youngsters, and they're certainties to develop under him. It's one of his biggest positives tbh...

I've always liked him. Uncanny knack of finding the corner of the goal. A priceless skill.

Fantastic. I got him in for UFPL at Christmas and haven't played him once because "it's Sunderland"...no wonder I'm doing crap...

Chaps, am I going mad here?

I have 2 FT this week, so does that mean I have 4 FT's I can make before DGW 34?

          Cool.

No need to use my WC now then, I can save it for DGW37.

I can do 2 FT's this week and maybe a hit in GW34 and that gves me 5 DGW'ers to add to the 5 I already have.

I already have Hennessey so no point getting rid of him. Need to decide whether I go for DDG or Cech in goal then to pair up with him. If I get DDG it means I'll have to get a keepr back in for GW35.

going out on a limb here but starting to think Rashford may be nailed, based on performance alone he deserves it.

      Right...advice needed..

WR made a big play this weekend in UFPL to stay in the game with a couple of punts....sadly he fell on his sword a bit...but he had to do it.

I have the same dilemma now. I'm currently 26 OR with sooo many identikit teams above me. Where are my punts ?

Studge ?...Coutinho ?...Welbeck ?...anybody else ?.....0% ownership would be handy...

A few have KDB left over from the transfer window. Rashford keeps getting drafted in by folk as well.

Welbeck may be a really good GW34 punt and hope he plays both.
