ICC World T20 Fantasy – Phase 3

The ICC World T20 moves into its third phase from Tuesday (21st March). This takes a look at the fixtures and offers those playing the game a new article for cricket discussions.

Fixtures

22nd March, Tuesday  –  New Zealand Vs Pakistan, Mohali

23rd March, Wednesday –  England Vs Afghanistan, Delhi & India Vs Bangladesh, Bengaluru

25th March, Friday – Pakistan Vs Australia, Mohali & South Africa Vs West Indies, Nagpur

26th March, Saturday – Bangladesh Vs New Zealand, Kolkatta &  Sri Lanka Vs England, Delhi

27th March, Sunday – Afghanistan Vs West Indies, Nagpur & India Vs Australia, Mohali

28th March, Monday- South Africa Vs Sri Lanka, Delhi

Discussion Points

  • From this we can see that New Zealand, Pakistan, Bangladesh play early on and their fixtures end early. So it would be good to load their players and save on some transfers.
  • Feroz shah kotla (New Delhi), Eden Gardens  (Kolkata), Chinna swamy (Bangalore) are slow pitches. But Mohali,Chandigarh is a little bit fast, skiddy, bouncy and grassy.

      I wasn't confident he'd get much time at the crease, but given the collapse it's worked out beautifully for you. I expect he'll pick a wicket up.

    I realise I'm in a small minority but I'm not too keen on Indian assets.

    It's six games until they play again so they will be coming in for just one fixture, and they have so many capable operators it's pretty hard to identify top scorers with any real accuracy. Kohli an exception perhaps.

    Anyone else thinking similarly?

      I'm definitely getting Raina... bats at no.4 and bowls

      With Afridi taking up 120k of my budget, I'd struggle to get Kohli in as well (definitely buying Shakib) so if I'm adding another Indian player, it would have to be Ashwin.

      But yeah, going 1 or 2 max and hoping Kohli + Sharma don't fire!

        Yes, I'm thinking of just Raina too, and def getting Shakib. I'll be getting two games out of him, so he effectively has four bites of the cherry (bat and ball x2) vs Kohli's one.

        Raina did only bowl one over last match, but snagged a wicket all the same. He will probably be my only Indian player.

          Any bowling for a top order batsmen is handy, and Dhoni has full confidence in him when he's wanting an extra spinner. He's also got very good hands in the field, so always chance of catching/run out points also.

            No arguments here. That's what gives him the edge in my selections.

            I'm not sure, but I'm intending to pick him if he is. If he isn't, there may be room for another Indian to squeeze in.

              I think he's an outstanding pick at 70k, as he'll bowl today and you can just hide him away as a budget player until they play again.

                Excellent value, all things being equal, but there is just too long between Indian fixtures for me to stockpile him. I want an active roster.

                WI play twice before India play again. I'll be going big on them.

                  Yeah definitely targetting West Indies... ALWAYS bring in Bravo and Russell and captain the highest owned between the pair.

                  Badree and Gayle (if fit) will have to come into consideration as well

      I sort of feel the same but I think this can be a fairly easy win for them. There's no chance you'd pick the correct players but I'd still want at least 2 players. I'm thinking Kohli/Raina, Bumrah and maybe selling a Pak player to get Shakib. Initially planned to use 4 transfers for this game but my budget isn't allowing me to get anyone I want

            Probably why he rarely seems to do that well for me then!

            I prefer batsmen batting first, as there's no ceiling to their scoring potential (in theory)

        Which Pakistan player would you sell?

        Bumps his great value but because the batting order is so capable I don't see him at the crease so unfortunately there's little added value to me.

        He will get his four overs though, and probably snag a couple. He's a tempter, but I think I'll go without...

      T20 doesn't need good WK skills usually but on the SC, it is a must-have

        idk, he also gives away runs in extras. In this format you shouldn't need so many batsmen, someone like Chris Read or James Foster could easily bat at 7/8.

        Buttler will always owe England runs in extras and missed chances so he has to fire with the bat. He should play as a specialist bat if good enough
