City’ Joe Hart could be set for a quick return to action, though Raheem Sterling could be out for the season. Stoke’s Jon Walters withdraws from Ireland duties, Alberto Moreno is back in full training for Liverpool, whilst Sunderland’s Lamine Kone withdraws from Ivory Coast duties due to injury.

Mixed News for City

Reports suggest that Joe Hart is hoping to shake off the calf complaint that forced him off against United last weekend in time for Manchester City’s Champions League clash against Paris Saint-Germain on April 6. Meanwhile, Yaya Toure has withdrawn from Ivory Coast’s meeting with Sudan after aggravating a heel issue, whilst Raheem Sterling is set to be sidelined for six-to-eight weeks after limping off against the Red Devils with a groin injury.

The Scout Says: Assuming Hart’s prognosis is accurate, he would miss the Sky Blues’ trip to Bournemouth on April 2 but be in contention for their double Gameweek 34 (che & new), making him the cheapest secure route into Man City’s defence across the two road ties. Although Manuel Pellegrini’s men tasted defeat in four of their previous five match-ups, it’s well worth noting that no team has recorded as many shut-outs on their travels (eight). On the flip side, only three teams have chalked up fewer goals in road fixtures (13) than Man City, which paints a bleak picture of their attacking potential over the double. Given that Sterling is now sidelined and Toure (one goal in seven) and David Silva (one goal and three assists in nine) have failed to live up to their lofty valuations, Manuel Pellegrini will be hoping that Kevin de Bruyne has fully recovered from his knee injury in time to spearhead City’s bid for a top four finish.

Walters Pulls Out of Ireland Squad

Jonathan Walters has been ruled out of Ireland’s friendly against Switzerland with a hamstring complaint but is expected to recover in time to face Slovakia next Thursday.

The Scout Says: Although Walters notched a goal and assist against Watford in Xherdan Shaqiri’s absence last time out, he lacks the regularity of starts and promise of a double Gameweek to register on our Fantasy radar. Marko Arnautovic – who ranks second among midfielders for goals (10) this term – represents the choice route into the Potters’ offense, but Stoke’s tricky run (liv, TOT, mci) beyond a home tie against Swansea City should encourage his 18% ownership to re-invest in a double Gameweek midfielder. By that same token, Jack Butland’s 27% ownership – who’ve profited from a solitary clean sheet in nine outings – might also consider cutting ties after the Swans match-up.

Moreno Back in Contention for Reds

Speaking from Liverpool’s warm-weather camp in Spain, Jurgen Klopp confirmed that Alberto Moreno will return to full training today:

“It’s really big for us. We let him come in this morning, training light – no real challenges, he could pass a few balls and things like this. But it was really good and he felt absolutely nothing, so from tomorrow he is completely back in the race, which is very important for us.”

The German head coach also offered an update on Roberto Firmino, stating that the Brazilian midfielder is “in a good way” after missing the Reds’ trip to Southampton because of a hamstring injury.

The Scout Says: Given that Liverpool face a double in Gameweek 34 (bou & EVE) and 37 (WAT & CHE) are guaranteed a fixture in Gameweek 35 and play at home for four of their next five fixtures, their Fantasy assets are in high demand. Firmino’s excellent form (five goals and four assists in six starts) has propelled him to the top of many manager’s shopping lists, while Philippe Coutinho (three goals in five outings across all competitions) and Adam Lallana (three goals and as many assists in six) have also staked strong claims for investment with their recent output. At the other end of the pitch, Jon Flanagan’s return to action renders Moreno and Nathaniel Clyne rotation risks during their double, ensuring that Simon Mignolet is the only nailed-on starter. Regardless, the fact that only five teams have recorded fewer home clean sheets (four) than Liverpool lessens our faith in their defensive prospects.

Schweinsteiger sidelined for United

Bastian Schweinsteiger is set for a spell on the sidelines after scans confirmed he suffered knee ligament damage during training with Germany yesterday.

The Scout Says: With a single goal and assist to his name this season, it’s fair to say that Schweinsteiger has failed to flourish since arriving at Old Trafford. Assessing the viable midfield options within the Manchester United camp, Juan Mata and Jesse Lingard are the only ones that factor into our thinking. The former carded one goal and two assists in his last five starts, while the latter – who’s priced at just 4.3 – has amassed four goals in 1120 league minutes this term, underlining his potential value as a budget fifth midfielder during the Red Devils’ double Gameweek 34 (AVL, CRY). Although United were much maligned for their paucity of attacking threat in the first half of the campaign, the fact they netted seven goals in their previous three home encounters suggests they’re capable of punishing the obliging defences of Aston Villa and Crystal Palace.

Kone Concern for Sunderland

Lamine Kone will play no part in the Ivory Coast’s upcoming head-to-head against Sudan after picking up an injury.

The Scout Says: Although Kone is kindly priced at 4.3 and has a double Gameweek 37 (CHE & EVE), the fact that Sunderland haven’t earned a clean sheet in 16 league outings ensures that Fantasy managers will look to mainly steer clear of their budget defenders. The one exception is Patrick van Aanholt. Owing to his attacking threat (five goals and three assists) and the Black Cats’ decent trio of fixtures (WBA, LEI, nor), the 4.7-priced Dutchman could emerge as a profitable differential for anyone brave enough to invest in the Wearsiders’ backline.

Sessegnon Notches for Benin

Stephane Sessegnon scored the opener for Benin as they ran out 2-1 victors over South Sudan in their African Cup of Nations qualifier.

The Scout Says: Although he’s started ten of West Brom’s last 12 league outings, Sessegnon has struggled for an end product and managed just one goal and two assists all season. Prior to their shock home loss to Norwich last weekend, Tony Pulis’ side had been in fine form, though, with the 5.1-priced Craig Gardener – who has chalked up two goals and an assist in his last four outings – arriving on one or two radars ahead of their Gameweek 34 double. Looking at the fixtures, though, Tony Pulis’ side hit the road in four of their next five (sun, mci, WAT & ars, tot), and with three of those trips against a side sitting in the top four, investment in the midlands outfit looks unlikely.

How about this for a WC draft? should I pull the trigger?

    Mignolet (DGW) - Elliot (DGW)

Sakho (DGW) - Smalling (DGW) - Bellerin (DGW) - Reid (DGW) - Fuchs

Sanchez (DGW) - Ozil (DGW) - Firmino (DGW) - Payet (DGW) - Mahrez

Aguero (DGW) - Kane - Rashford (DGW)

    £0.3ITB

12DGWers, keeping Kane & Mahrez. Will save FT after GW34 so will have 2FT allowing me to swap out Rashford & Reid for two replacements, not sure who yet though mind!

Any feedback greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Fuchs to Simpson if you want their def so badly. Then Mignolet to DDG. And get Lukaku for Kane.

Looking good, you need to wait though due to the current injury doubts. Would consider Lukaku as he has 3 DGW coming

I wouldn't pull the trigger yet. I would be tempted to get Rojo for Smalling, or maybe DDG. Smalling is so expensive. He could get you attacking returns, but I don't know if he is worth extra $$$.

Your team is not too dissimilar from my first draft with 9/15 the same and another 3 from the same teams defensive wise.

With lots of players putting their eggs in the same basket, I'm wondering whether it might be wiser to double up on some defensive teams in order to maximize points. United comes to mind, Arsenal will be harder because of their attackers, while Liverpool might not be worth two defenders.

I also feel missing a Leicester defender might not be the end of the world. WIth some tough games coming up and the pressure mounting I can see 1 or 2 results going against them.

    For WC on GW33:

    A) Rojo / Welbeck / Lukaku

    B) Smalling / Kane / Deeney

Kane would be the 2nd SGW with Marhez

The Wednesday match being on TV has probably killed it - they could have played Friday, Monday, Thursday, Sunday otherwise in GW37/38 which would have meant 3 days between each match, something they can't do in GW33, 35 or 36 unless the breach UEFA rules (which seem to be being ignored anyway this season!)

LVG seems to be talking up his qualities, and he's coped well with a lot of football on a short space of time. He's looked fresh as a daisy in fact.

I think we really can. He has done very well, seems to perfrom best in a striker role (instead of a right wide one) and gives United something extra.

Rooney could pose a problem, but I suspect Rooney to slot in the attacking midfield role.

    What do you think of this WC33 team;

    DDG - Elliot

    Rojo - Sakho - Gabriel - Reid - Simpson

    Sanchez - Barkley - Firminio - Coutinho - Payet

    Kun - Welbz - Lukaku

I like most of it. I dig the Man United double up, and the Liverpool double up. I don't really get the Sakho selection with two Everton players in your team.

Since your team is attack heavy your defence suffers a bit. I wouldn't select Elliot but he is the best option at that price and with your budget.

I am not so sure about:

Gabriel (Slight rotation risk, no BPS, not much of an attacking threat and somewhat rash and a card collector)
Barkley (Hit and miss, better but more expensive options around and your have no budget left I suppose)
      Welbeck (Rotation risk)
Aguero (I know, but with those tough games and his price there surely is a case to be made for leaving him out)

      Hope this helps you.

Planning my GW33 WC, and I'm really struggling with my defence.
    So far I have :
    DDG, Mignolet
    Bellerin Ogbonna/Cresswell Simpson/Fuchs X Y

I'm having a hard time finding my last two defenders. I don't see any side having a favorable DGWK CS-wise :
    - Man U : nobody seems nailed on apart from DDG
    - Arsenal : only one spot avaiblable in my defence since I want Özil and Sanchez/Welbeck
    - Liverpool : a bit leaky

I've narrowed it down to these options :
A/ City : Otamendi a bit too expensive, might go for Mangala
B/ Leicester : I could double up on their defence with sun, WHM, SWA in the next 3
C/ Spurs : I already have Alderweireld, I might keep him (MUN, sto, WBA) or go for Dier to free up some funds

Any thoughts on this? Am I missing something?

I am thinking about leaving a Leicester defender out entirely. Maybe get one back for Swansea, but Sunderland away and West Ham at home are hardly easy fixtures.

Don't forget West Ham. Reid might be a decent option. Also Rojo.

Already have Ogbonna to cover WHM defence.

As for Rojo, Man U's defence looks like a minefield to me atm

Assuming you can field a decent gw35 team, which would you prefer?

        34
        One of Ozil/Sanchez/Aguero/Payet
        or
All of Elliot, Simpson, Rojo, and Mahrez

These are basically representative samples of the difference between using your Bench Boost or your Triple Captain for a typical squad of 12-13 DGWers. Ozil TC vs an opponent's C = a net gain of one Ozil score.

The same can be done for gw37. Might be a helpful way to figure out when to choose each chip.

Planning transfers ahead barely ever works, but here goes anyway

        DGW34 (Bench Boost)

        DDG - Elliot
        Bellerin - Rojo - Reid - Sahko - Simpson
        Sanchez - Ozil - Payet - Firmino - Mahrez
        Lukaku - Aguero - Deeney

        GW35 (2FT)

        Aguero > Kane
        Rojo > PVA

        GW36

        Bellerin > Klose/Everton defender
Might take a hit for a Sunderland attacker punt (Defoe)

GW37 (TC Lukaku, haven't decided bench yet)

        DDG - Elliot
        PVA - Reid - Sakho - Klose -
        Payet - Firmino - Sanchez - Mahrez - Ozil
        Lukaku - Deeney - Kane

        GW38
Welbeck/Giroud in for triple Arsenal attack vs Villa

I've owned Paloschi for his easy run of fixtures and it hasn't paid off. Someone has dropped Sakho and I'm considering picking him up. I also own Siggy for Swans cover and I own Payet and Antonio for WHU cover

So the general rule of thumb in the world of football seems to be that it takes 10 years for a return on investment in a youth academy, Germany, Barca, Saints, among others can all attest to that..

With Manchester City having invested MILLIONS upon millions into their academy every single year for the last 8 years, and with many of their star players getting old / bored / outdated, should we expect to see some quality coming through the ranks from the Blue youth teams in Manchester over the next 2/3 years?

Apparently all of the youth talent in Manchester goes to City's academy these days and not United.. Could the next "Class of 92" be a Manchester City "Class of 22"?

Especially with Pep and Txiki Begiristain at City..

Reading were one the first to adopt a academy of quality.

Many players you may not realise include Siggurdson, Long, Michael hector and even Antonio was bought in and developed later than those academy products. That's just a few key names. It does work and so I agree city should see some soon.

We have a lot of the same players (11/15). I would consider wildcarding this week instead of next week.

If you are wildcarding later (and thus stick with Silva) I would go with this for this week:

          Butland
          Iva - Daniels - Fuchs
          Silva - Payet - Ozil - Alli
          Kun - Kane - Vardy

And swap Butland out for one of DDG or Adrian. Or go with Lanzini, Wijnaldum. Maybe even Mitrovic or Rashford. Reid or an Arsenal defender are also good choices.

          Good luck.

              Klose / Simpson imo.

Kirchhoff for 4.3 could be a shout too.
