After delving into the Defensive data over the last four matches earlier this week, we turn our attentions to the centre of the park. With double Gameweek shopping in mind, we compare some of the West Ham, Arsenal, Liverpool and Newcastle midfielders, before casting an eye over the upturn in form from Leicester’s talismanic wide man.

Ok - so worked it through and GW36 WC still on for me with (for no hits):

    4 DGW'ers in GW33
    10 DGW'ers in GW34
    11 in GW35 with 1 FT

A little bit quantity over quality though - means I am going to be Payet-less for example. Might need to invest in a large sofa.

Fellow Lukaku triple-captainers: are you planning to TC him in GW33 (wat, cpl) or GW37 (lei, sun)? Not sure myself, original plan (like many I'm sure) was TC in GW37.

      1. Everton have nothing to play for.
      2. Lukaku won't want to risk injury with the Euros coming up which 'might' effect his play.
      3. Palace and Watford can play very well at the back on their day
      4. Liecester and Sunderland have both tightened up at the back recently.

I'd stray away from using the TC chip on him. It seems people are on heat about this new Everton double gameweek news.

I don't see why it would, unless you want to triple captain Lukaku (or other Everton or even Palace player!) in GW33. Personally I'm wildcarding now, but that was always the plan.

Lose Zaha for someone who plays in 35. A Liverpool mid is essential imo. Also think you have to get rid of Rojo or Cresswell. You've spent a lot on your defence with 3 of the 5 players blanking in 35.

Reasoning for no Aguero for DGW WC is that you have an exra week of fixtures where you cant change your team, so being reliant on one person to not get injured and play / deliver is too risky when can be exchanged for better players in several positions.

Yes and no. Depends how you see Liverpool, if you think their whole team is rubbish then investing as little as possible into their team is a good approach. Especially if they are easily bench-able such as a GKer and a defender.

I was really keen on the idea but then the Everton announcement happened and I'm now keen on the Robles Elliot combo simply because of how it frees up funds. Because I'm on a WC now I'll have a transfer I have to use prior to GW34 so a Bolasie -> Coutinho transfer can now work.

If it wasn't for that though I'd be all over it.

It would still be sensible to pick 3 Everton players regardless for back to back DGW's. So it still makes sense to pick the most nailed on players. Eg Robles, Lukaku and Barkley

No question. Robles and Lukaku nailed into mine after the announcement today. Still not sure about Barkley. Feel sort of like having fun and going Lennon even though he will best case play 3 of the 4 games.

For sure. The savings does help. The difference between Smalling and Rojo, for example. It's tough to figure out where to make sacrifices 🙂

Yeah, inevitible we'll have to compromise and have a rotation threatened player. FTR I'd go with Rojo and Barkley over Smalling and Lennon.

The 3rd defender. Attackers more likely to get rotated.

You'd only be comparing the 8th attacker vs the 3rd defender in any case. I'm sure judgement at the time can weed out those prone to rotation.

Seems sensible to me. Wouldn't bend over backwards though, that chip is pretty worthless. Might be better off with a defender on a DGW who is in the 6m region than a midfielder in the same price bracket.

Hard to say I guess. I'm still searching for opportunities to make the most of an AOA chip, when is a good time to use it? might as well give it a shot in a big DGW.

I feel like I'm pretty well set up to be competitive in Gameweeks 33-35 without wildcarding until GW36. Lukaku and Robles for 33, 10 DGWers + Mahrez for 34, and a pretty strong team for 35 with 2 Lei/2 Tot.

The only issue to deal with is selecting 2 defenders and 1 midfielder. Only one of them can have a GW35 blank and I have 19.3 mil to spend. Any suggestions? I'm currently considering Smalling, Monreal and Wijnaldum.

    Current team is:

    Robles, Butland
    Dawson, Alderweireld, Simpson, VVD, Kompany
    Silva, Ozil, Antonio, Mahrez, Siggy
    Aguero, Kane, Lukaku

    1. Mitchacho

Kompany, VVD and Siggy being the players I plan to sell.

      1. Niemi

You can always spend a transfer before GW35 on a player with a blank. I'd say go with Firmino, Bellerin and Sakho

        1. Mitchacho
          • 15 Years
          9 years, 8 months ago

Yeah that's the plan so that I don't have to play Dawson @ ars.

Hmm, interesting suggestion. Rotation is a risk, but the price is right and I don't have any Liverpool cover. Cheers.
