After delving into the Defensive data over the last four matches earlier this week, we turn our attentions to the centre of the park. With double Gameweek shopping in mind, we compare some of the West Ham, Arsenal, Liverpool and Newcastle midfielders, before casting an eye over the upturn in form from Leicester’s talismanic wide man.

Okay so I'm trying to figure out whose the Liverpool assets to consider especially Sturridge is back in the picture.

    [FIRMINO]

    Interesting this, Firmino's recent run

    GW 21 : 2 goals 0 assist
    GW 22 : 0 goals 0 assist
    GW 23 : 2 goals 1 assist
    GW 24 : 0 goals 0 assist
    GW 25 : 1 goals 1 assist
    GW 26 : 0 goals 1 assist
    GW 28 : 1 goals 1 assist
    GW 29 : 1 goals 0 assist

Looking real good, but there's 2 blank there - which are tough fixtures vs MU and Leicester

Another 'blank' of goal is GW 26 where Firmino 'only' got 1 assist. That was a 6-0 victory over Aston Villa.
On GW 26, was the only game in the league where Firmino and Sturridge starts together.

There was 5 other occassion where they start together in cup games, Firmino just scored 1 goal during those period.

    [COUTINHO]

Now let's compare to Coutinho when Sturridge plays. It's not a lot actually - only in GW 6-8, 26, 31.
    GW 6 : 0 goals 0 assist
    GW 7 : 0 goals 2 assist
    GW 8 : 0 goals 0 assist
    GW 26 : 0 goals 3 assist
    GW 31 : 1 goals 0 assist

1 goals and 5 assist in 5 games - 3 blanks though. Yeah not that convincing, but still shows that Coutinho can still perform when Sturridge around.

In that 5 cup games where Coutinho also played, he scored 2 goals.

    [STURRIDGE]

Now just for giggles let's see Sturridge. As said he doesn't play a lot - only 5 league games this season.

In those 5 games (3 of which he only plays ~60 minutes); he scored 4 goals.
A goal every 93 minutes; small sample obviously but he scores when he plays.

And interestingly, half of those goal is assisted by Mr Coutinho (and none from Firmino).

    ________________

If fit, Liverpool will play Sturridge. The guy is a goal scoring machine and they need him.
    It's a big if, though.

And I have a feeling Sturridge will be given a chance to have a run of games towards the end of season as he did a few seasons ago.
If I'm not wrong he did really well back then and I'm putting my money he will too this season, provided his glass leg is well-protected.

Personally I wouldn't make the plunge too early (and I just can't let Kane go too right now.)
He just came back from injury so will monitor this couple of games. Might make the switch to Sturridge on either GW 34 or GW 35.

I might also consider not having either Coutinho and Firmino in my current WC and have Bolasie as a placeholder, too.

The idea of getting Stuffidge interests me too. I definitely think he'll go on a run of starts but I suppose we should still question whether he can play every game in a tight fixture schedule?

Bolasie as a place holder for a Liverpool mid is a good call prior to GW34. Will be doing the same myself.

        Yeah that's my worry too.

But then again, all of Coutinho Firmino and Sturridge will be rotated in these tough fixtures. They aren't exactly players who can play 90 minutes every week. Firmino for example, gets subs off early a lot.

Yeah that idea does intrigue me.
Currently is Liverpool mid (TOT STO) vs Antonio (CPL) Ozil (whm).
Was planning to do Bolasie -> Antonio on GW 34, but can switch to this plan instead.

Only problem is I'm afraid they might explode in this 2 games and I can't get them. I only have 0.3m spare change 😉

Easier to get Sturridge, if fit, for DGW37 given Kun is dispensable then?

Is madness if I pick three players from Everton?
Robles, Jags, Lukaku. *Wishing GW 33 & 34 Everton can keep one clean sheet not expect more. 🙂

    WC-draft GW33

    Mignolet-Robles
    Bellerin-Kos-Jagielka-Rojo-Fuchs
    Sanchez-Firminho-Payet-Mahrez-Lanzini
    Lukaku-Kun-Kane

Pretty much set except for few things. Although it's early so we know it's about to change sooner or later.

          As of right it's this

          Robles Elliot
          Bellerin Gabriel Rojo Fuchs Sakho
          Ozil Payet Firm/Cout Mahrez Bolasie
          Kun Lukaku Kane

Later Bolasie -> Antonio on GW 34..
(Also Kane -> Martial / Sturridge)

I'm having doubts whether I should have Firm/Cout now though, because I want to see how they perform while Sturridge is in.
Also, might bench them/Ozil on GW33.

So alternatively, I might punt take Antonio vs CPL instead, and do Bolasie -> Coutinho / Firminho on GW 34.
Antonio is easier to bench too vs Arsenal.

          Thoughts?

Assuming that you're aiming to bench boost in GW 34, obviously you're not prioritising having 15 players, I think that makes sense when the player you're hanging on to is Mahrez.

I'm not wholly sold on sturridge or martial myself but at the same time i could see it going your way.

Oh, and I'd probably go Firmino over Coutinho

I like it on the balance of things, although I'd probably want 15 dgwr's in GW 34.

Fair point. My two non DGW players are Fuchs and Mahrez.

Can't find anyone else in those price range that I like. Barkley and Cresswell is possible but got too many blanks on GW 35. Other options is Janmaat and Wijnaldum/Sissoko (the latter is an interesting punt actually)

But I don't know, since I'm WCing now, I have to consider fixtures on GW32 and GW 33, and those double LEI assets seems like an obvious choice.

Sturridge & Martial is a totally situational thing, will have to watch their form.

And see above for a simple analysis on how Firmino & Coutinho performs when Sturridge is around.

How's your team shaping up bud? Any initial draft?

He is. But he plays so deep with Rafa.

Sneak peak on the stats, Sissoko is on the rise and out perform Wij.

Looks good plan. GW35 you can play 11 players.

Both Gabriel & Rojo same team is slightly risky business. But maybe that works.

At that price, I'll take the risk.

Gabriel starts some 8 out of the last 9 games. Even if he starts just 1 game in DGW, he's still good value and better than any SGW defenders.

And the whole thing about Rojo only didn't start 2 games in the last 2 seasons. other than injuries and return-from-injuries games. I reckon he's nailed on.

Agreed this. Good point. Both seems quite nailed.

If I need more funds later maybe I also pick both Gabriel & Rojo.
But atm I go Kos & Rojo or Smalling & Gabriel combo.

My team is pretty similar, I like yours.

Not sure about Bolasse though, he might be a double for the sake of it.

Holding Kane, Mahrez and swapped Fuchs to Simpson as I'm also on the wc and had to make a saving somewhere, seemed the obvious swap with minimal impact/damage to the set up.

Yeah he's just a punt, that almost costs nothing as I have 2 FT on GW 34 and potentially not using any if I keep Kane.

Yeah that. Dont fix if theres nothing wrong and all that. They're table toppers and on form, I'm not keen on dropping them

Was on Simpson too, but found 1m laying around so gotta use it especially Fuchs with being a baps magnet.

                I'm going for

                Cech Robles
                Bellerin Cresswell Simpson Rojo Sakho
                Ozil Firmino Mahrez Payet Antonio
                Aguero Kane Lukaku

It's pretty similar is structure but I'm wanting Cech over a cheap keeper as it sorts out the double Arsenal defence to the end of the season apart from in 33 or 37 (when they have City away and Robles has the double)

Cech was was in my initial plans too. Then went to DDG. Then now Robles.

Might explore that option again actually.

                    Thanks, good luck with it.

The Everton double was a spanner in the works but I've think I've managed to integrate it without damaging my plan up to 37.

Double Arsenal and double United defence in GW34 is going to be vital and didn't want to lose that because of Palace or Everton (who are not in exactly the best form)

                      It's now down to

                      Cech Simpson
                      vs
                      Elliot Bellerin

I love the Cech - Robles rotation. And Simpson got the fixture for the next 4 too compared to Newcastle.

                      But Bellerin attacking potential.

                      What's your pick CP?

I'd have to say Cech and Simpson simply because both have strong clean sheet potential where Elliot could let you down more with the other combo.

Leicester look like they are grinding their way to the title.

I see the you're on the Dann train.

1 player away from a full 11 on GW 35. I assume the FT in that week is gonna fix that?

I'm not sure about double Liverpool defense though, they're rather leaky. Try to fit in an Arsenal defender?

Also yeah Berahino, but it's your punt so not gonna put you off.

Dana's in there for their double in GW33, won't be sticking around longer

Im very open to changing berahino, still looking at other options

Already have Bellerin as well as two other Arsenal players unfortunately, I had a similar thought about doubling up on 'pool at the back, will continue to monitor others but my hands are kinda tied if I want to field 11 in GW 35

Will bench Robles Lukaku Barkley Rojo, unless I'm mistaken everyone else should play in GW 35

              Yeah Dann's a reasonable punt.

Just to give inputs, Mitrovic and Deeney seems to be the popular pick.
Personally I'd go Defoe if you go WC from this week. Goood fixtures and play on GW 35. But DGW is on GW37.

    Adrian Elliot
    Rojo Sakho Bellerin Ward Fuchs*

With 2FT in GW35 I will do Ward and Barkley out for a playing XI

Although now I'm looking at Cech - Robles. Only needs to play Robles on GW 33 & 37 where Arsenal have tough fixtures.
Also gets to play my double Leicester defense. (or one + Janmaat)

But dropping Bellerin is not fun.

So i think i've nailed the gw33 wildcard team, please go ahead and pull it apart!

    Mignolet, Robles
    Bellerin, Rojo, Gabriel, Jaanmat, Simpson
    Ozil, Payet, Firmino, Coutinho, Mahrez
    Aguero, Lukaku, Martial

Leaves the exact money to do martial to kane gw35 in order to field 11 with a spare FT.
Thoughts? May go for mata and sturridge instead of coutinho and martial

Exploring a late WC strategy. Can get 2DGW for 33, 9DGW for 34 plus Kane and Mahrez and WC36 for 15DGW for 37. Does this work or too light?

If you're WC33, how many DGWers you getting for 33, 34 and 37?

      Works ok

      3 DGW for 33
      13 DGW + Mahrez Fuchs
      11 DGW for GW37

It's not only about quantity though, I'm finding it's hard to field a decent 15 DGW for GW 37. The teams are meh. The likes of Everton, West Ham, Liverpool we'll be having it since GW34 too.

Can easily do 15 DGW for GW34 with Arsenal and City in the mix. Just prefer Mahrez + Fuchs over say, Janmaat and Wijanldum

I hear ya. My issue is I am finding it very hard to part with Kane. Mahrez and a Lei defender are keepers too. See my potential 37 team:

        Mignolet Robles
        Ivanovic Smalling Reid Sakho PvA
        Payet Barkley Firmino Mata Lanzini
        Sturridge Costa Defoe

No Lukakuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu? Might consider Lukaku Coutinho over Mata Sturridge?
This is coming from a Sturridge camper.

          Love the Defoe pick though.

He's not nailed on in the sense like Cech or Kosc.

But he's by far the first choice in Arsenal right now alongwith Kosc in CB.

Starts 8 in the last 9. And at 4.3m it's a very calculated risk - the extra 2m can be spent elsewhere better.

My guess is he will play 7 out of 8. Even if he misses 1 of the DGW, can you find another 4.3m who have nice fixture, no blanks, and have good fixture GW 36 & 38 (BB 34 so on GW 37 he's on the bench)

With the news of the Eve v CP game fixed for GW 33, is it now impossible to:

    - WC in GW 33 and have 3 Eve & 1 CP players
    - BB in GW 34 with 15 DGWers
    - Field 11 in GW 35
    - & Field 11 DGWers in GW 37 and TC

.....without any hits??? Impossible right? Can only have 2-3 Eve players and no Palace?

No, it's what I plan on doing, essentially.

      You need 3 Eve, 3 Pool, 3 from Palace/Wham/Utd/Watford, 6 from Arsenal/City/Newcastle/WBA.

      Gw35 transfer 2 from Palace/Wham/Utd/Watford to 2 from Sun/Che.

      Gw37 transfer in 2 with a DGW.

nice...cheers for the help. I think if I WC in 33 and have 3 Eve and Bolasie i'll be stuck with him for 34 also.....may have to go without palace or else WC earlier in 32 to have the extra FT to get rid of Bolasie in 34 and still have 2FT for 35

Yeah, what I mean is, with that backline for 35, what will your FTs be for making the midfield play in 35. Why I ask is, this already has a bearing on the combination of defenders you want to have, so that using FTs on defenders means preserving FTs on attackers in preparation for 36 onwards and also maintaining players for 37.

I might be thinking this through too much. Probably ignore my comment. 😀

Fancy Firmino actually but willing to keep Barkley or Everton mid for 33. Have spare FTs and only 4 blankers in 35 so easily doable for my draft.

Welbeck and Mitrovic are the only proper options

Sturridge if you're keen to go for it.

Sturridge and Mitrovic not fancy enough. Welbeck could be, but need to juggle my defence then. Not keen on Pool defence. Deeney/Ighalo a no-go for you?

Sturridge is very fancy. His goal scoring rate is very high but probably a risk too far. I think Welbeck is well worthwhile

Yeah, by my not fancying I meant the injury factor, I won't risk having him. When fit he is gold-class but with the way Klopp has publicly spoken about him being fragile and needing to be managed, he won't play many minutes, will be a sub for the second match of the DGW easily.

That is the pansiest team I've ever seen

          3 x SGW players
          1 x Milner
          1 x Jagielka

Needs to be a lot more daring imo

Kane is worth keeping but eats up too much funds so is a no go

Mahrez won't maintain his momentum when Leicester keep going for 1-0 results

A Leicester defender could be worthwhile but you know, meh

Alli might actually be one worth keeping as a price enabler.

      mahrez/miler interchangeable

Alli/Lingard interchangeable and can fund towards Ozil->Sanchez if Ozil still looks listless this week.

        Wk 32 WC
        Wk 33 save FT
        Wk 34 2FT spend 1.
        Wk 35 2FT use

        Wk 32 1FT punt
        Wk 33 WC
        Wk 34 save
        Wk 35 2FT use

Means you get a FT to spend in wk 34 rather than 32.

In your opinion please. Would this team in 34 be good enough to NOT wildcard?

I'd have Bolasie, Jagielka and Lukaku for DGW33. Then doing Bolasie to Firmino for DGW34. And I'd get 11 players easily from this team to GW35.

Would take a minus four only.

    Thanks for your feedbacks.

    DDG. Butland.
    SAKHO. BELLERIN. JAGIELKA. Daniels. Huth.
OZIL (TC). FIRMINO. PAYET. Mahrez. Alli.
