ICC World T20 Fantasy – Phase 3

The ICC World T20 moves into its third phase from Tuesday (21st March). This takes a look at the fixtures and offers those playing the game a new article for cricket discussions.

Fixtures

22nd March, Tuesday  –  New Zealand Vs Pakistan, Mohali

23rd March, Wednesday –  England Vs Afghanistan, Delhi & India Vs Bangladesh, Bengaluru

25th March, Friday – Pakistan Vs Australia, Mohali & South Africa Vs West Indies, Nagpur

26th March, Saturday – Bangladesh Vs New Zealand, Kolkatta &  Sri Lanka Vs England, Delhi

27th March, Sunday – Afghanistan Vs West Indies, Nagpur & India Vs Australia, Mohali

28th March, Monday- South Africa Vs Sri Lanka, Delhi

Discussion Points

  • From this we can see that New Zealand, Pakistan, Bangladesh play early on and their fixtures end early. So it would be good to load their players and save on some transfers.
  • Feroz shah kotla (New Delhi), Eden Gardens  (Kolkata), Chinna swamy (Bangalore) are slow pitches. But Mohali,Chandigarh is a little bit fast, skiddy, bouncy and grassy.

    I have a team l am happy with for the DGW with only 0.1m less ITB.

          I had a massive strop and turned my laptop off. Went and had a shower, got some breakfast and I've returned a refreshed, new man hahaha

          No further points for Watson and yes, the mood around here will definitely lift!

          A MOTM performance and huge batting total from Afridi would be ideal

      This in a way makes his explosive first innings all the more frustrating... I deliberately didn't buy him because I didn't think his bowling was going to be enough to get him a big score and with it being such a good batting wicket, I didn't expect him to get as much batting as he did.

      I'm sure every one of us who went without or didn't captain Watson thought the same... very annoying indeed.

        Yes, for sure we did.

        But if he doesn't get any wickets and goes for runs (very early days yet) then he won't get a great score. Solid but not spectacular and he will have no chance of MoM.

        It'll just be like him picking up a wicket and getting a few runs, and who didn't think that was a fair chance when they didn't select him?

          Yeah fair point... with me not having him in my side, I've not actually seen how many points he's scored... I'm just visualising 100's of points in the (C) was on him in my team like it should have been

          Out of curiosity, how many points has he actually got at the moment?

                Don't sweat it mate 🙂 it could be so much worse.

                I'm more annoyed that I changed my plan to pick Zampa! (Who is a player I've really enjoyed watching play for Melbourne Stars and rate).

                    Ha, yes! He seems very intelligent bowler for a 23yo in general. His judgement is better than I would expect. Probably comes from playing on a lot of unhelpful pitches. I hope he goes on to test honours.

    Who you guys going for second game? Reckon I'm on Gayle, Bravo, Benn, ABD(C) and Abbot all these will be kept for there second games will add one more Wi vs Afg and one more SA vs Sri

      I'm finding it hard to decide... I'm definitely getting Charles (assuming he's still opening), Bravo and Russell.

      In an ideal world, I'd also get Gayle and Badree... but I'm having trouble affording Gayle, and Badree is another bowler, when I'm already struggling to field 4 batsmen in my squad balance.

      Not considering any SA players, even though they can and probably will score well... as I'm wanting to use most of my transfers on WI and SL players (to get 4 games from them) but finding the funding for Dilshan and co, as well as the WI players is proving troublesome. I'll be selling Shakib after his next game, which is a help but I still need to find a way to get SL players without removing my WI ones... if that all makes sense.

      This... I captained him over Anderson vs NZ and very nearly captained him this game (after not buying Watson) but fortunately changed to Afridi, who could potentially score in both innings

      So the question is...does that mean you go conservative and play safe or does it mean you take some risks and potentially compound some bad outcomes

        It means I stick to my original game plan, but I have 2 extra transfers to use (as I didn't bring Watson in for Shakib).

        I always planned to go light in this game... with Watson, Afridi and Amir (2 Paks already in place) to cover both innings.

        Then use 4 to 5 transfers to bring in West Indies assets along with Anderson for the Ban vs NZ game (already have Shakib, Munro, Iqbal, M. Rahman).

        Then get rid of my Bang/NZ players to replace them with the likes of Dilahan from SL, who have 2 games to play.

        I'm finding it difficult to fit all the best players in, mainly due to only having 3 batsmen when I got the all-rounders in!
